Message Forum

Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Bob D.

Have you been to the 6th Floor Museum? I've visited three or four times. Very interesting.

David,

I've been watching the developing stance toward Omarova.  I sure hope our Congress doesn't confirm her, as she is obviously a far-leftist, Communist-lite, just waiting to get her hands on our Treasury Dept. dealings.  She is a snake-in-the-grass, who would be delighted to see the US get taken down a few notches, to level the playing field as she determines it should be, with her biased thoughts of her former homeland's groupthink, in its relationship with Russian governance; a dominant country (Russia) she obviously admires greatly, with her gratitude toward the education they gave her.  Being a mixed Asian lady, she has the proclivity toward education excellence, and she is quite dangerous to Americans' naivete of people with her background, wouldn't you agree?

Yikes!

Jerry, sweet story and a breath of fresh air here.

I remember that all the 7th grade classes piled into our room and we watched TV covereage the entire day concerning the assassination.

I have lived all my life in the Dallas area/and suburbs but I've never even gone to the museum. I've wanted to, but never got around to doing it.

My grandmother was Catholic and abosolutely loved, voted and campaigned for JFK. My family voted against him. I was totally sad about the assassination, as I am today and I wish that SOMETHING regarding the real truth had been known and released before now. The Jack Ruby thing - Lee Harvey Oswald  - it seems like someone should have found something. Now we're left with a bunch of conspiracy theories.

David W,

Oswald and Ruby both acted alone. The Warren Commission got it right. I've posted my long summary of the event here. The best book is the late Vincent Bugliosi's 1000+ page definitive tome on the assassination; end of story. No conspiracy.

Hollis,

I look forward to reading your positive, "breath of fresh air" posts on this site.

Jerry,

Hollis is correct.  I breath of fresh air and a lovely story!  I am very glad you and Ellen as so happy, you both deserve it.

Wayne:

I'm not sure whether you noticed, but the Dallas Morning News dropped the Millard Fillmore comic strip beginning last Sunday.  Apparently a number of individuals had written to the paper objecting to the strip's tone.  If others are not familiar with the strip, the tone is conservative.

It saddened me to have the DMN jettison one more conservative element.  A number of years ago, the new editor of the paper stated how pleased he was to be joining a paper which was progressive in its editorial content and conservative in its financial reporting.  I see that those who evaluate bias in papers tend to rate it as either Center or Center-Right, but that is not my evaluation.  In particular, the columnists tend to be more progressive in the opinions.

Anyway, no more Millard Fillmore in the Morning News.

Kurt,

I now go online to see Mallard Filmore.  It actually is a daily cartoon.

Jerry,

I agree with your ice water choices, but the blue cheeze olives sound out of this world.  I bet they make a fantastic salad topper with a basalmic vinegar dressing and walnuts.

After eating those blue cheese olives, I bet a breath of fresh air does not describe your breath.  Another reason for me to add Andes chocolate mints for a complete finish for the salad.

Keep us posted on your eye along with your eye candy wife.

Class of 1969,

I would like to thank Tommy Thomas for posting a public apology for posting in my name on his site in place of a screenshot of the original altered post from this Message Forum.  I was also at fault for this mess for agreeing to give him my password when he was originally banned from this site so that he could still read what the Class of 1969 was posting to share the memories and stay updated with Class Activities.  Hopefully, we can finally bury this source of great contention.  I would also like to thank Sandra Ringo for her sage suggestions that made us both step back from the brink.  Tommy and I will continue to disagree on many things, but we have been able to remove the bullet proof glass we had placed on our windows.

Kurt:

I wrote the following to the managing editor of the Morning News.

Am I correct that The Dallas Morning News no longer carries the Mallard Fillmore comic strip? I am going to assume that its tone was too conservative for complainers from the left.

Are you open to “canceling” some comics from the left of center? How about starting with Doonesbury.

To be candid, I find that, more and more, the news articles in the Morning News are slanted from the left, and that doesn’t even include the articles that you pick up from predictably left-leaning outlets. I find myself getting angry as I read obviously biased articles in what has become an obviously biased newspaper.

I stopped my long-term subscription a few years ago for this very reason. I picked it back up a couple of years ago, and now I am wondering why.

This is his response:

Thanks for reading The Dallas Morning News and for writing to me about Mallard Fillmore.

On multiple occasions over an extended period, we’ve received many emails and calls from readers about Mallard Fillmore after they found a particular strip’s content offensive. We also know that Mallard Fillmore consistently underperformed in terms of overall readership compared with other comic strips. Many publications regularly change comic strips based on readership and audience feedback.

In regard to our news coverage, what are some specific stories in which we've been biased? I ask not to challenge you or out of a position of defensiveness. I ask because I'd like to further understand your point of view.

I'm not certain how, or whether it is worthwhile, to respond, but I am open to ideas.

Steve,

Thank you.  You have demonstrated some courage, humility and integrity with the apology.   It is accepted.  You are and will continue to be my friend.

David,

I would respond to the editor with some specfic articles.  You might wait a few days collecting recient examples.

I now know that Mallard Fillmore is a daily strip and the News olny had it on Sunday,  I stopped reading Dunesbury when he started representing Pres. Bush with a feather for a head.

Steve,

If you are not aware of it, you do not have to log-in to this site to read the Message Forum.  Tommy's site requires you to log-in to read the messages.

Wayne,  whether you have to log in or not depends on how your have your own access to either site saved.

Sometimes I have to log in and sometimes I don't.   I can read messages (on either site,) but when I try to post a message, it asks me to log in.

My e mail for Classmates conflicts with the sites, so I have to have one e mail for 69 and one for Punography.

Originally I accessed the sites from Explorer, then changed to Google Chrome.   Each time saving some entry part of the sites.   That's what makes you log in or not.

They are probably exactly the same, allowing for the user to set up their own access for either one.   Plus, each of us has our own procedure for going on line.   Laptop, phone, desktop, using Google, Duk Duk .guv, or some other search engine.   Apple phones, apple laptops, Android and the like.

Just sayin

Chief No Stache,

Looks like you're good friends with a double evictee again. Nice display of Christian tolerance and forebearance; please forgive me for not mentioning the other party so unworthy of such charity, and yet the properly forlorn object of such divine behavior due to his/her/its current state. Good job as always, Injun. Now if we can just get our pro football enemies to change their name back to what it should be - Redskins!

David C.,

I say "Go ahead and tell the Dallas Morning News of what you find "biased" in their articles, and see what response you get, if any."  I'm curious to hear what they say, and I'll bet you are too.

Go for it!  They seem to want info from conservatives.  It's a start, anyway.

I assume you have the name of the individual who wrote to you.  Let's hope he responds and doesn't 86 your comments.   Should be interesting.....

Big Bird ruffles Cruz’s feathers; critics of ‘cancel culture’ launch university in Austin.

Noam Galai / FilmMagic

In a Twitter announcement last week, Big Bird said he got the COVID vaccine, which Ted Cruz called propaganda.

Feathers were flying this week after

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz took his partisan war against vaccine mandates to Sesame Street, accosting Big Bird on social media for tweeting last weekend that he’d gotten his COVID-19 shot. “My wing is feeling a little sore, but it’ll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy,” the lovable yellow, 8-foot-2 bird wrote. “Government propaganda,” Cruz tweeted back. “… for your 5-year-old!” When Big Bird’s defenders fired back at Cruz on social media, Cruz deemed them “mentally ill” and lamented in his podcast, “All the disasters that are happening, none of them matter. But you mess with Big Bird, holy crap, they lost it.” We have to wonder how he’d diagnose a grown man who spends his platform as a U.S. senator portraying a beloved children’s character as a tool of the deep state. Calling Big Bird the “government” doesn’t make sense anyway, since not a single government dollar goes into the production of the “Sesame Street” show, a spokeswoman for the nonprofit Sesame Workshop confirmed to us Friday. It’s incidents like these that make us wish Cruz would fly the coop. We’re not the only ones. A parody Big Bird account on Twitter quickly launched a run for Senate, announcing Cookie Monster as campaign manager, Elmo as senior adviser and promising to “Bird Back Better.” The parody candidate had 98,000 followers as of Friday. His first campaign pledge? “Big Bird promises to never fly to Cancun when Texas is in trouble.”

I add, The Count is gonna be in charge of election fraud tinkering.

Lowell,

Is there any Republican that you wouldn't denigrate in one way or another?

Do you accept Cornyn or Dan Crenshaw as being okay in the way they handle their offices?

I thought Ann Richards was okay.
