Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Went to the UT game tonight. They stunk up the joint for most of the game, but finally tied it in the last minute. Lost in OT. They scored first in OT, but Kansas scored, then made a two-point conversion. Game over. Ugh!

LA Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw (from Highland Park HS) holds a fundraiser every year, called Kershaw's Challenge, that benefits children in Africa, the Dominican Republic, and elsewhere. Classmate (and my dentist) Bob Cederberg and wife Nancy invited Martha and me to the private celebration last Thursday at The Rustic in Dallas.

Three or four years ago, Brad Paisley contacted Kershaw to compliment him on his charitable activity, and he told Kershaw to let him know if there was anything he could do to help. The next year, the performer scheduled for the for the private celebration was killed in an accident. Kershaw's wife urged him to follow up with Paisley. Sure enough, Paisley agreed to perform -- for no fee. The attendees had no idea that the substitute performer would be Brad Paisley. Quite a shock!

Paisley was again the performer last Thursday.

Also in attendance was Atlanta Braves slugger Joc Pederson, with the semi-mullet in the photo below. (Sorry, Lowell and other Astros fans!) Kershaw auctioned off Joc's pearl necklace for $22,000. Note that Paisley has a baseball cap in this photo. Kershaw, holding Paisley's hat, auctioned it for $20,000, and another Paisley hat for another $20,000. (Ahem, I was not among the bidders.)

Below: the Cordells with Clayton Kershaw, who is wearing one of Paisley's hats on top of his baseball cap. It was a great night!

Hi 69ers,

Today I am enjoying the last day to be in my 60's !

What a decade! -- loved my 2nd career, traveled extensively thoughout Europe with my adult children, became a grandmother, became a hip-hop dancer, visited many old friend all over the US, got to reunite with you all at the reunions -- so blessed!

Living the dream!

Happy Birthday tomorrow, Colonel Mareth!

Thanks, Hollis. I neglected to mention that the Cederbergs are related to Clayton Kershaw by marriage. I think their son-in-law's sister is married to Kershaw's brother. Or something like that. (I've had two glasses of wine.)

Colonel Martha Mareth,

I didn't know you at all back in the day, like so many, but congratulations on your "graduation" to the physical fun of our 70's - just got my new glasses due to my now permanently blurry left-eye vision so I can drive a lot better now - in my mind, still a lot better than getting the cataract operation - gee if I live long enough, I may get to enjoy that as well. Hmmm......... I bet like I did you may have encountered some of these joyous moments in your 60's as well, so in any case....happy birthday!

"Hip-hop dancer"? Again, hmmmmm............

If you have a daughter, you should have named her Edith Judith Mareth! Say it!

I mean, C'MON WO-MAN, "Martha Mareth" is kinda like "Ethel Thayer" in 'On Golden Pond" (1980) as well, correct? Sorry, still waiting for the new meds in the mail...............

And THANK YOU for your service to our country!

Chief Jimi Bob

David,

I don't know how you do all the things you do.  You are busier than a cranberry salesman this month.

Texas Tech eeked out a win with a 62 yard field goal.  The back story is that Sonny Cumbie wanted something this week to set a new tone for his team.  He ordered a Jenson 25 pumping unit off Amazon and inspired the team with the daily player "Always Working" award.  The players all touch the  pumping unit which was on the sidelines at the game prior to going in to the game.   The field goal kicker Garibay hand cranked it on the way in to kick the field goal. I guess in West Texas that's a surefire way to pump up the team.

I wish Sonny Cumbie had let me know he needed a pumping unit like that.  I probably have 25 of them in better shape than the one he bought sitting around unused on leases or at one of my yards.  I would have given one to him.  I have some Bethlehems, Lufkins, Jensens, Churchills and Americans.

Happy Birthday and Happy Veteran's Day Martha Mereth.

Lance,

I did not know you were Catholic, but it will be interesting to see your "parish from the earth".

David,

Kershaw's Challenge is name of Clayton's foundation and the event was KC Live.  By my count you had a 1 margarita and 1 glass of wine.  Clayton is married to Ellen who is my son-in-law's sister.  I appreciate you and Martha attending the event.  It is always a great event and raises money for orphanages the foundation supports in Africa, Dominica Republic, plus some local charities that provide aid to kids and mothers.  If anyone is looking for a good end of year giving opportunity, I would highly recommend Kershaw's Challenge (www.kershawschallenge.com).

Steve, maybe Lance is from Louisiana, or is under a spell.

(Will anyone get those two comments??)

David,

I do and maybe Lance has room in his religious model to channel Wayne Gary.

Janalu,

I saw a discussion where someone suggested to you that not celebrating Christmas was unique to Jehovah's Witnesses since the Bible clearly shows Christ was not born December 25th.  The truth is that many Christians understand the fact that Christ was not born on that day, but is it ever a bad time to celebrate Christ's birth?  I don't think so.  A story I can give you about myself in the same vein is this:  My second wife was a Catholic and enjoyed going to mass at least twice a year whether she needed to or not.  Plus we were attendees at funeral masses for her relatives on a regular basis.  When the kneeling board came out and everyone kneeled, I would just sit there with my head  bowed in prayer.  I was praying one day and I suddenly got a revelation.  It settled in my mind in the form of a question from God.  "Is it ever the case where one would not take the opportunity to get on your knees before God and the Son?"  When I answered that question honestly, I have been a kneeler at Catholic church services ever since.

Jerry,

At least you get near the mouth on your kisses with your wife.  The only kisses I get anymore are like a French General gives when he is passing out medals.

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

Steve,

I liked your message that kneeling before God is a worthy action wherever or whenever you can and will.

On another issue, I hear that Aaron Rogers football jersey copies are selling like hot cakes!

I've also heard from Dr. Makary on Fox News, that the vaccines are being found to not truly protect folks from spreading Covid after a few months, but the vaccines DO continue to help protect the individual who gets the shots, in so far as lessening the voracity of the virus if that person contracts the virus.  So-o-o-o-o, it's still a good idea to go ahead and get vaccinated, if your doctor agrees with your individual needs.

Also, The Gettysburg Address is such a wonderful speech to read whenever you can.  I tried to memorize it in the 6th grade, because Mrs. Fagg, our wise teacher, encouraged us to do so.  She said that we could receive extra grade points if we were able to write it from memory.  I remember that I memorized half of it pretty well, but I never accomplished the whole thing in one evening's try, so I ended up getting distracted by other things after that, and never finished my effort.  Typical me!   But I still like to read the address often, since it always strikes me as profound and enlightening.

And politician Edward Everett talked for about TWO HOURS in his speech before Honest Abe got up and said his thing. Reminds me of the latest Dem boondoggle legislation compared to what fixes ALL the current mess the Dems created - go back to what the EVIL ORANGEMAN was doing - DUH! Oh, wait, it's their plan; never mind............

Now that Beto has anounced he is running for Texas Gov, On WFAA is said he grew up with guns in his house and is for protecting teh 2nd amendment  where last year he said "Hell yes is will take away your AR15s and AKs" another flip flopper trying to hide his former statements.

Lance, any chance you can translate your "Sr. associate's" post?   Or, ask her to have someone edit and re post.  Her comments actually make no punctuational readable sense to me.

Colonel Mareth,

You say you came to love rap music. OK.................I bet you were a good dancer!!!

Concerning your 70's, please remember, it's all downhill from here!! hahahahaha!!!

It occurred to me suddenly the other day that I remember, I think it was in the 90's, seeing a list of US Congressmen and their net worths. Well, at the very bottom, one of the VERY FEW less than a million, was guess who? Yep, Joe Biden with about 350K from what I remember.

Well, now he and his entire family, including at least 1 brother, are multi-millionaires! Hmmmm.....he, via his son Hunter primarily, was influence peddling after he became Vice President, with China, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan. Oh, well, at least the Cowboys are looking good again..........

I didn't get those 2 comments about Lance that Steve got - must be a Castilian thing.

Chief Dense Bedpost,

Parish the thought.  Lance spelled perish as parish.  Does that help?  Now he has muffed his barber test.  His Christian credentials just keep on giving.  However, in my opinion it does not seem better to receive what he keeps giving.

Lance and Martha,

Lance< I hope you have changed your mind since you claimed you were and arsonist at UT and set the ROTC building on fire.

I just saw where A&M has announce these new scholarships:

Texas A&M University announced today it will award $5 million in scholarships annually for 10 years to cover room and board for members of the Corps of Cadets who are ROTC scholarship recipients, which currently is more than 700 students.

ROTC scholarships cover all tuition and fees, but not room and board, so Texas A&M’s funding will close the gap, providing full ride scholarships.

This new funding, known as “Texas A&M University Patriot Scholarships,” will go into effect immediately, retroactively covering room and board for the fall 2021 semester. The scholarships will continue to cover room and board for all ROTC scholarship recipients for every subsequent semester. All cadets on any ROTC scholarship are eligible to receive the additional scholarship dollars.

“Not that there was ever any doubt, but the Patriot scholarship proves that Texas A&M is the most military-friendly university in the country,” said Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp. “The Texas A&M community always will do whatever it can to support our troops and those preparing to serve our country in the armed forces. Also today, Dr. Banks showed us her strong commitment to the Corps of Cadets.”
