My military career is quite different than most albeit started off ordinary with a regular commission out of Texas A&M University as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force in June of 1973 as a Civil Engineering Officer and commander of a Primary Base Engineering Emergency Force. In June 1975 I left active duty and entered into the Air Force Reserves as a First Lieutenant and stayed until June 1979. I then separated from the service until August 1992 at which time I resumed my military career and enlisted in the Texas Air National Guard in a civil engineering squadron as a Staff Sergeant structural specialist. Then in January of 1996 I switched to the Army Reserves and a Combat Heavy Engineer Company where I stayed for two years before being promoted to a Facility Engineer Detachment. While a member of the Facility Engineer Command I served in two combat deployments…Operation Joint Guardian, Kosovo (2001-2002) and Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan (2005-2006). (Note from DMC: E8 Master Sergeant)
On my sixtieth birthday I retired from the military with 23 years of service and today as I look back upon my varied military career I have to state that many valued life lessons were learned, many life-long bonds made with fellow Airmen and Soldiers and enough memories to last a life time.
