Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

It was a love story, Steve, not a Clint Eastwood thriller!

The scenery was exceptional, I agree, and the soundtrack was great too, I thought.

By the way, did you know that Joe Biden was from Delaware, not Connecticut?  Thought you might have been confused in one of your earlier posts......

Pelosi on payroll tax cut. She was for it before she was against it. 2012 interview.

(Note: I am still iffy on a payroll tax cut.)

David,

That is just her plan for the Democrtes to keep control of Washington.  Be against of any proposal from the Republicans.  When Bush 43 was president Pelosi and Hillery wanted to relocate our troops overseas.  Several weeks later Bush anounced a report from the Pentagon sugessting certain re-deployment overseas and they said it was a bad thing to do what a short time before they were for.

What I understand is Trump is not calling for elimating the payro tax just deferring it for several months.  Just like they did for income taxes this year. They delayed from April 15 to July 15 the filling date for Income taxes.

Janalu.

I don't think it matters between Delaware and Connecticut.  Joe doesn't know where he lives.

That's true.

After some Democrats made a big stink about how Kamala's first name was pronounced to a Repulican talking head who had pronounced it improperly, as if if rhymed with Pamela, then Biden did the same thing, even after talking many times with Ms. Harris.  Biden pronounced it incorrectly, but quickly corrected himself, probably because he had an earpiece in his ear, telling him of his goof.  Ha, ha!

I'll bet Kamala will be in the Oval Office by February 1st, if Biden is elected!

They'll have Biden sitting at a small desk on the side of the Oval, where they will give him one of those adult coloring books to keep him busy and happy!  (Just kidding folks) sorta............

Janalu,

For the benefit of the class I want to enlighten all about a great senior discount at Brahms.  If you order the kids meal through the drive through you get a cheeseburger and small fries that is probably the portion size us seniors are supposed to have.  It also comes with a coloring book that changes every week and four crayons.  The cost is $3.29 and a junior drink is $0.99.  What a deal.

Kamala's name is easy to pronounce.  Just remember Commie La.

How good are the burgers, and how many crayons and coloring books have you accumulated??

With all the banter on both sites, what a fun November Election is this going to be? For sure, it will be the strangest in U.S. history.

I wonder how this election year will be thought of in generations to come? Will the oldest candidate in history take the office? Will Trump turn this into a battle of an old man vs a viral, vibrant incumbent?

Ya'll stay tuned...

David,

I generally keep one around for keeping my mental state acute or if a kid drops by.  The rest go to my new 3 year old grandson.  He can already stay between the lines better than I.  He is getting more like a little adult and I am getting more like a little kid.  I hope I recognize the point when two little shits pass in the night.

Lance, I assume you are referring to young Christopher. Better to hear a flush than deal with the alternative.

Lance,

That's one of my favorite songs.....so lovely.

And I remember Jimmy Durante too.  Who was the lady that he always said "Good night to?"

08/14/20 12:18 PM #18712

Wayne Gary

Janalu,

His closing was "Good night, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are".  Durante finally revealed that it was indeed a tribute to his wife. While driving across the country, they stopped in a small town called Calabash, North Carolina whose name Jean had loved. "Mrs. Calabash" became his pet name for her, and he signed off his radio program with "Good night, Mrs. Calabash." He added "wherever you are" after the first year.

On Sunday, August 9, 2020, a little 5 year old boy was shot pointblank in his forehead, by an irrate Black neighbor.  The neighbor was 25 years old, and was named Darius Sessoms.  The boy had been riding his bicycle in his front yard, and evidently rode into Sessoms yard too, which made Sessoms furious.

The crime was not reported on Mainstream Media for three or four days.  Not on ABC, CBS, NBC, or CNN ---no mention at all of this horrendous crime!  WHY?

Because a Black man shooting a White victim did not fit their narrative.

If the racial component had been reversed, the story would have been spread by the Mainstream Media instantly.

Is this not the most insane reporting you have ever heard of, or seen?

The little boy was named Cannon Hinnant, and he lived in Wilson, North Carolina.

He was buried yesterday.

How about this one, Janalu? Breaks my heart. Apparently, little black lives don't matter.

Another excerpt from Kirk Dooley's book "Hidden Dallas" (1988); Campisi's Egyptian Lounge.

The most natural question in all of Dallas is, "Why does a restaurant called the Egyptian Lounge serve some of the best Italian food in town?"

It is baffling, but there is a reason. When the Campisi family took over the location years ago, the former tenant was a restaurant called the Egyptian Lounge. The Campisi family, a little tight on start-up capital, went ahead and left the sign up and called themselves the Egyptian Lounge.

It has been continued to be known by both names and its popularity grows each year. And it has Dallas' best line to stand in. One hasn't experienced Dallas until one has been to Campisi's, on Mockingbird Lane.

This is post is dedicated to Steve Keene!

David,

Yes, I heard about that horrible crime a few days ago.  Even Trump mentioned it.  Such a sad state of affairs we have, when young men (or animals) go driving around shooting into people's homes, just for the sake of having nothing else to do, I guess, or maybe to settle a drug argument, but shooting at the wrong home....not that that makes any sense either.

I guess you heard about the toddler in a Brooklyn park, sitting in a stroller while his father and grandmother were having a cookout dinner.  Seems some hoodlums drove by and shot into the park for some unknown reason, again possibly to settle an idiotic drug score "game," hit the youngster in the head, and I don't think a suspect has been apprehended yet.

What kind of young adults are we raising?  Does no one teach morality or decency anymore?   Do these older teens have no conscience?

Illustrates it nicely, I think.

When I was a HS sophomore – decades ago! – my World History teacher was Mrs. Holloway, but we all called her Granny Holloway. She was a slight woman, scarcely 5 feet tall, seemingly fragile, but full of vim and vinegar….you know the type. She could speak for hours about the Fall of the Roman Empire, the Inquisition, the Industrial Revolution, and the World Wars. She never sat while she lectured, never stood at a lectern, but moved around the room making eye contact with all of her students. She was demanding too, and I can’t remember how many papers were sent back to me because she would note “you can do better than this, Miss Schaal.”

One day during class, an office aid interrupted her lecture to hand her a note. She read it silently, apologized, and said she needed to leave the room. We knew it had to be important because Granny Holloway stopped lectures for no one.

We sat in the room talking to one another when the door opened, and in walked Mrs. Abels, another teacher in our HS. She explained to us that Granny had been faced with an emergency, a serious one, and it was questionable if she would even be returning to finish out the semester. We were stunned. Would we get a chance to tell her goodbye? Would we get updates, so we would know she was ok? Mrs. Abels assured us that we need not worry, that Granny was safe but needed time away, and that the best thing we could do for her, and the best way we could show our devotion to her, was to be cooperative with her replacement. Mrs. Abels confirmed that she had been asked and had agreed to step in as Granny’s replacement.

Cheer up, she told us, this could be a good thing. Other teachers still believed in endless homework and projects with deadlines and hard work. She would not bring that into our class. She believed in clean slates. If there were grades that we did not like, she could give us a chance to bring them up. She asked us what suggestions we had to make the semester a better learning experience. Someone mentioned that lectures were boring and we wanted more films. Done, she said. Someone else mentioned that a free day now and then would help us if we needed to catch up on work in other classes. She didn’t see a problem with that. She asked us how we felt about an end-of-semester party. Um, yeah, sounded very good to us. And on and on. Mrs. Abels listened intently and agreed to all of our suggestions, continually emphasizing that her concern was that we have a good learning experience and enjoy the semester. She also reminded us that we were lucky to not be sent out to other classes where we would be working to catch up, and that of course this was all for Granny.

Near the end of the period, shortly before the bell rang, the door opened and Granny sauntered in with her usual Granny Holloway attitude. “How did they do?,” she asked. “Marvelous,” said Mrs. Abels. “They were completely in my hands.”

Granny then faced us and said “And that, my students, is how a dictator takes over a nation. Not with guns or tanks or laws or mandates. They do it using a poster child and promises and gifts and protection from an enemy.”

I can’t remember a lesson all through 12 years of public school that made such an impression on me, and has stayed with me.

Janalu; Lance,

The song...."I'll be Seeing You" was my parents' favorite song also! In fact, when my Father passed away I had

planned it to be sung near the end of the Funeral Mass by the young lady who (sang it beautifully)  was cantor......this, after some arguing with their pastor. His words were: "Jerry, this wouldn't be in keeping with the liturgy." I said, "Well Father, I think you are being a bit obtuse. My parents would have loved having this sung. Besides, it will be at the END of the ceremony"! He finally relented and it was sung just as the casket was wheeled around to head to the rear of the sanctuary. And the young lady sang it much like Bille Holidays' version.

Awesome story of  your (our) experience at RHS. You know  we had it pretty good there and blessed with some amazingly talented teachers and human beings, as I think back on it.

Well, good afternoon! Think I have been lurking in the background long enough. Think I am too slow on giving a response. By the time I know what I want to say, y'all are 2 pages ahead! Do want to say that Debbie's story was great and I love the song "I'll be seeing you". Guess I am getting sentimental. How is everybody?
