Rick and I were in the first grade together at Dealey Elementery on Royal Lane in Dallas. Neither of us had remembered that when we reconnected at Abrams JHS 1965-66 - but when we discovered that, we went by an old Dealey classmate's house off Preston Road in the summer of 1966 - he remembered me but not Rick, who moved away before I did.
Rick and I went to see "Psycho" (1960) at the old downtown Richardson movie theater in the summer of 1966 (before I got my driver's license on August 1, the day Charles Whitman had his fun in Austin), and he had to spend the night at my house since it scared us so much.
Great guy. Didn't know his first wife. Met his second wife Margaret so that was fantastic that he was happily married until the end. Amen.
I was so sorry to hear about Rick's passing. He was a friend all through high school and we kept in touch on Facebook. I will miss his great sense of humor and his true concern for others. We caught up with each other during the 50th reunion he always was a genuine friend, his passing will leave a large hole in a lot of people's lives.
My family moved from Milwaukee, WI, to Dallas during the Summer of 1960. My Dad was starting a new job at TI. In the Fall, I started the 4th grade, with Mrs. Harris, at Spring Valley Elementary. The Fall of 1960 was the first year that Spring Valley was open. One of the first kids that I got to know was “Ricky” Wilbur. We both liked the Hardy Boys books, and TV shows like “The Twilight Zone”, “Gunsmoke”, and “77 Sunset Strip”. We got to be good friends that year. As things go, the 4th grade was the only year that we had a class together. Other kids in our 4th grade class included Eddie Norman, Terry Mitchel, Lane Freeman, Cathi Akin, Wayne Gary, and Scotty Baxter. It doesn’t seem like 64 years ago, does it?
