Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Kurt Fischer

About a month ago I posted regarding an injury to my hand.  It's now been two months since the injury occurred.  (I fell with a 30 pound potted plant and managed to deeply cut my pointer and index fingers on both sides - 26 stiches).

Progress has occurred.  The wounds have healed with a bunch of scarring.  My main issue is getting back the ability to curl my fingers since the tendons have shrunk.  So I go to rehab twice a week.  I believe the PT person got her training at Guantanamo, but it is helping.  We'll see how it is going in about a month.

I'm able to go to work and do many activities.  I'm now able to button up my dress shirt and tie my shoes, just like a big boy.  I'm now typing with both hands.  So things are good.

Learnings for all of us of a certain age?  Let's be careful out there.  And be especially careful about slightly treacherous footing.  Areas that would not have been a problem in the past can now become tripping hazards.

Don't I sound like an old man?  I don't feel that way, but this is the first major accident I've ever had and it sure impacts your life.

Take care.

David C, Jerry et al,

I am LOVIN' hearing about trouble in New England for Belichick. Do you think we have a chance for him? Like Jim Carrey in "Dumb and Dumber" said, "I've got a chance!!!"

By the way, it was nice to see Stephon Gilmore & Brandin Cooks contribute to the win yesterday. And to be fair, that was a great pass Dak threw to Cooks for the TD.

Kurt,

My life has had its shares of events like you just launched into. You impress me as a cautious, reserved person so that's good. I was always too reckless with my over-share of "err in haste, repent at leisure" times, replete with broken bones, etc.

I did learn when I fell back in 2010 and hurt my right hand, that you HAVE to learn to roll so I'm mentally prepared to do that should (when?) I fall again. We did that in P.E. class at RISD - where you drop to the ground as part of calisthenics (I remember that from Abrams) so now I'm ready to roll!!!!!!!

Thanks, Jim, for the birthday wishes!  I had a great day!  But I'm NOT old; I'm seasoned with the most delectable seasonings!

Kurt,

Glad to hear that your injuries are healing well!   So glad that you can dress yourself like the 'big boys' again!

Please keep posting when possible.  Are you enjoying your newest job, having thought retirement was boring?

I've heard quite a few men say those same words, and also say that they were getting in the way of their wives who were used to having the house to themselves during the day.  HA!

Happy Birthday Janalu!

Thanks Ron!

Hope you are doing well today and all days, knowing how your spinal problems are giving you fits at times!

My husband has to deal with back and neck problems too, which are aggravated by arthritis, so I know that kind of pain can be terrible.

Hope pain management is successful for you.

Keep the faith and find the best doctors!  We're lucky to have the best docs in the world.

Jim B.,

Belichick won with Brady, and Brady won with Belichick.

Brady won without Belichick, but Belichick didn't win without Brady.

Kurt,

Thanks for the reminder of our mortality and increasing fragility. (I take too many chances on ladders.) Glad you're healing. Remember: typing posts is good exercise for your fingers!

Wayne,

Loved the '60s dancing ladies. Some were pretty hot. Probably not as hot these days, if even alive. As a lover of old movies, I am going to re-post a video that has had 70 million views, about half from me.

Hey Jim Bedwell,

I dont know about Belichick. Yes he knew what to do with talent. But when you dont have it in this league.....its

difficult to win. They need to find a quarterback, and it won't be a Brady! ( I think the reason Brady......and Gronk left in the first place was because of  Belichick! (course I knew Gronkowski had lingering injury problems)

Belichick won't fit anywhere where he doesn't have control, and besides.......he's getting old!  A coach has to be able to balance these multi-million dollar egos......and this narcissist wont do that!

Not many are experts, but I think part of the reason Coach Quinn stayed was because Jones probably told him he  was "Head Coach in waiting" I think he is a great defensive coach; and he cleaned up some of the mess from the 49er debacle.

McCarthy was able to straighten some things out, but those miscues (flags) have got to go!  Discipline goes back to the head coach. My prediction is, he is on a time table and the window is closing.

It was nice to bounce back and win, but the Chargers are not in the upper tier of the NFL, yet.

And we're not either, although we do have a defense......that has kept us in games.....and even scoring at times.

Dac simply has to get rid of that ball; or run as he did the other night. Since he is now in his eighth year.....he should not be making the same bonehead mistakes.(like taking 3 seconds to let it go) I think he should have two "read" options and then tuck it and run. It takes him way to long to even look for the 3rd option!

There are only about 3-4 elite quarterbacks.....and at the top is Mahomes!  Prescott is not one of them!

Back to Belichick. I remember seeing a tape of him in a coaches meeting and embarassing one of them, by saying he didn't know what he was talking about!! And he went on to coach Notre Dame!~j

Jerry said: "Dac simply has to get rid of that ball; or run as he did the other night."

David replies:

There is a lot to unpack there. I'm no expert, but here are some thoughts.

Some quarterbacks just can't give up on the pass play called. Tarkenton would run around all day until he could find a receiver.

Some QBs are a bit antsy. They don't want to take a loss so they dump it, sometimes a little too soon.

Some QBs like to run. And it adds a dimension to the offense. If they can't find the first, second or third receiver, they're off like a rocket.

Prescott was getting lousy protection Monday night. In that situation, I'd like to see him look for the first or second receiver, and then start running if he can't find them. That has the advantage of keeping the linebackers honest. They can't drop too deep if they know there's a good chance of a run. It is also a morale shaker for the defense. "We covered well but he still gained five yards."

When QBs are getting lousy protection, they have to  hurry their passes, and that leads to bad decisions -- and interceptions.

I agree that Dak is not a premier QB, but they have to protect him better.

David C,

Jimmy Johnson won with Aikman, and Aikman won with Johnson.

Aikman won without Johnson, but Johnson didn't win without Aikman.

But I still think Johnson was an excellent coach who belongs in the Hall of Fame. Ditto for Belichick. Not ditto for McCarthy. So I still wish we could get Belichick.

Lady Lanajuju,

Thanks for the clarification about the wonder of you. Since I haven't seen you since RHS (or the 1st reunion - can't remember but we didn't know each other then), I will defer to your AGED wisdom on the matter!! My mother taught me to always respect my elders, especially those born in any year before mine! YEE HAW!!!

10/18/23 01:42 PM #28411

Jim Bedwell

Jerry,

Thanks for your extended post about our Boys. I can't say I disagree with much or any of it. And it all starts at the top. I've noticed that now when I encounter Cowboys fans anywhere and I start to tell them that I've never met a person who disagreed with the following statement: "The cause of the Cowboys' now chronic underperformance is solely Jerry Jones", anyway now when I start to say that, I can't speak too slowly or add ANY words to my statement or else the listener will blurt out "Jerry Jones" before I have a chance to finish!!! hahahahahha!!!!!!

Also a former co-worker of mine told me a Belichick story I love. He was before reporters and one or more kept asking about drug testing the players. Belichick said, yeah we should do that but only after we drug test you, and you, and you...........the New Yorker in me LOVES the terse, unfriendly way Belichick speaks at his required press engagements - YEE HAW!!!

David,

You almost repeated what I said: " I think he should have two "read" options and then tuck it and run. It takes him way to long to even look for the 3rd option!"

McCarthy also needs to "open it up" with the pass on first down. at least enough to keep them guessing. It is a "pass first" league, and has been for awhile. The run will be there often enough.

And there were times I thought.....at least the other night, the tight end was open. How many balls did they catch?

Anyway, we'll have to see if they can "hang" with the Eagles when that game comes. If they somehow beat them.....we will be getting close to being one of the elite teams.

Jim, they wouldnt be able to get Belichick anyway. He won't work here for the reason....you gave; Jerry Jones

Belichick has to run his own show. Right now its not looking too good either!

Anyway, I'm just about ready to watch some baseball!

How bout' them Rangers!

10/18/23 07:45 PM #28413

Jerry May

What is it with the Rangers here?  I just heard some numbers I didn't like! Astros outscored us 39-10 in the 3 game series here at home!

One would think the home fields have been reversed! And I did read where the Astros had more "away" wins than at home!
Rangers need to find a way to reverse these trends!

A message from UT President Jay C. Hartzell

Dear UT Community,

Universities play a key role in modern society, but the extent of that role is called into question when the world faces catastrophic events. The attack by the terrorist group Hamas on Israel on Oct. 7 is likely one of the most salient, important and horrifying events in recent decades. It has sparked debate about how universities should respond through collective or individual speech, supporting and protecting our communities, plus through our core activities of teaching and research.

This event has shaken our community and the world by its true atrocities, including the intentional targeting, kidnapping and murder of innocent civilians, children and babies; widespread calls for violence against Jews; and increases in antisemitic statements and violence. These have led to heightened concerns about the safety and well-being of Israeli, Jewish and Palestinian people on campuses in America, the Middle East and around the globe.

As a result, many have questioned the role of universities in responding by speaking out against Hamas, its actions and the growing antisemitism on campuses. Our University, like many top research universities, refrains from issuing institutional statements in response to major global or societal events unless there is a unique connection to our community, or it is a matter of public safety impacting our ability to operate. Universities such as ours produce and disseminate knowledge, and putting forth institutional positions on global events or policy issues can run counter to an environment characterized by free inquiry, debate, productive discourse and free speech. Such an environment is critical to our core missions of teaching and research.

There are costs to this approach, as well. One such cost occurs when friends and critics of a university like ours associate a lack of a public statement with a lack of caring, a lack of empathy, or even more damaging, with implied endorsement of actions that are hard or impossible to defend. Let me be perfectly clear: The acts of Hamas, including intentional violence toward innocent civilians and calls for the elimination of a people, deserve to be condemned and have absolutely no moral defense.

These events are connected to our University, beyond just the stark contrast between Hamas’s actions and our University’s values. They have raised concern about the safety and well-being of members of our community, and as I wrote last week, we will do all we can to protect and support all of our faculty, staff and students, and especially those most vulnerable, including our Jewish and Palestinian community members. I have zero tolerance for the antisemitic actions targeting our Jewish community or the hate-filled actions targeting our Palestinian and Muslim communities. Speech is protected on our campus, violence is not. We will be active in identifying any perpetrator and will strictly enforce our rules for safe behavior toward others. We are one UT community, and we will fiercely protect it.

We are committed to a university environment that encourages discourse, discovery and dissemination of knowledge, with support and care for all of our campus community. We must redouble our efforts to do what we do so well: teaching and research. Teaching is clearly important, as harkened to by the George Santayana quote, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” I encourage our students to consider our related course offerings for Spring 2024 and beyond, and all of us to read, learn and discuss more.

Research is important, as well, as it helps us better understand the key issues, contexts and consequences surrounding critical moments and movements. Our leadership team is committed to making further investments in both research and teaching to help our students and the broader community learn and discover more about these issues and the histories and cultures of the Israeli, Jewish and Palestinian peoples. We will work with faculty leaders during the coming months to deploy those resources and to increase our reach and impact.

My heart goes out to the millions of people affected by this war, and I especially mourn any loss of innocent life. Our campus community will continue to respond and come together, learn from each other, look out for each other, and do our very best to change the world for the better.

Sincerely yours,
Jay C. Hartzell
President
The University of Texas

Jerry,

I guess you didn't know this, but after Belichick was fired from Cleveland so before his Patriots tenure, he contacted Jerry Jones and told him that he was an excellent coach and Jerry should interview him. And your namesake Mr. Jones said FUGETTE (Cajun spelling - I'm 1/8 Cajun) ABOUT IT! So we could have had Belichick AND Brady (along with anybody else so it's not just restricted to Jerry).

Tommy,

Who are you ravishing in your current FORUM photo?

Was it ChristIne?

Was it a consensual kissy-poo?

You weren't a sneaky cad out for a stolen smooch, were you?  Surely not!

Yes, I'm being a 'Nosy Rosie' as I often am.........

Must have been a set-up photo-op, as someone was conveniently positioned to snap the pic.........

It wasn't in the RHS cafeteria, was it?

A more romantic setting could have been chosen, me thinks.........but I guess you have to grab the opportunity when it presents itself, huh?

Such licentious behavior on a high school campus should have been reported to Mr. Jerry, and should have caused a red checkmark on your permanent record, plus thirty lashes AND the picking-up of trash along the campus fences/parking lot, (including cigarette butts and/or various other assorted butts)....for Heaven's Sake!!

I don't think we were allowed to wear pants.

I don't know who she is.

I can't believe you don't know who the kissee was.   I remember all of my kissers~

Ok.   I have watched the Rangers about 25 games this year...about 15 at home.   I have to ask the question.   Who is the guy dancing in the banana suit behind home plate and what is he selliing...He is awesome...Is it an add gimick for a smoothie franchise?   Or someone from Nicaragua selling bananas?

LOWELL,

I think his name is Christian Saenz, from San Antonio.  He's about 13 years old and just likes baseball.  He bought the outfit for Halloween.

I saw this on a news blog online.

Lowell,

From the Houston Chronical

ARLINGTON — When Christian Saenz was shopping at a Spirit Halloween store in his hometown of San Antonio, he saw a banana costume and the idea for his viral moment was born.

Yes, that was a 13-year-old San Antonio junior high school student who caught everyone’s attention during Game 4 of the Astros-Rangers American League Championship Series on Thursday at Globe Life Field.

Holly Hobby

On behalf of beloved Bob Davidson, a devoted, loving husband and uniquely good man, I wanted to let you know, his dear wife, Terri, passed  away a few hours ago.  Terri's death was sudden and unexpected.

Expressions of comfort and sympathy would be most welcome.  With respect for the family’s privacy, there will be no forthcoming details.  Thank you in advance for understanding.  Please join me in keeping Bob close to your heart and in your prayers.

Rest in peace, Terri.

Thanks for sharing that sad information, Holly.

I just "messaged" back and forth with Bob D. I asked if he would like to write something about Terry that I could share in a notice to the class about her passing. He said, "I am too numb to think of anything," but he added that he would try to write something later today.
