Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

David C,

Happy birthday. Ain't fallin' apart fun? I have noticed bruises and simple cuts etc. just don't heal up and go away quickly like in our youth. Also when the insurance can pay for it, I still need some minor distance correction when I drive so I'll be getting glasses again for that. I don't have to have them to drive anymore but they will help some.

Chief Needs Care,

May God continue to bless you & yours into eternity future as you recover from your physical problem(s) - I realize there's little hope for the mental side of the equation. You need to hang around a LOT longer so you can remain pleasantly surprised as ever when you receive my and Tommy's abuse, oops I mean warm comments - or should I say I warn you about my mean comments.  Just thought of one. Sounds like Tommy & Madison know each other pretty well. You should have them visit you at the same time in your convalescence for the stereo abuse!!! YEE HAW!!!

Hearing about Steve's condition reminds me of the same situation with both my father and my father-in-law.  Unfortunately, it seems like it's not an unusual condition with people of our age...

My father had his kidneys not working correctly due to a medication he was on.  He left the house to drive to Baylor (he was living alone at the time, but had a girl friend who he had called before leaving).  Everything seemed normal.  But instead of heading to Baylor, he got turned around and went north.  A nice person talked with him in Melissa and contacted our family.  He seemed normal, but was not all there and was not capable of making good decisions.

Same thing with my father-in-law in Wisconsin.  He was the epitome of a sweet Methodist minister and could talk to anyone about anything.  The family got a call from around 100 miles away.  He was in a cafe regaling people with stories, but didn't have a clue what he was doing.

My conclusion is that we need to stay close and be aware of changes in our loved ones behavior.  Odd things happen due to medications that we can't anticipate.

That journalism hire failure has been all over the Houston Chronicle for the past 2-3 weeks.   I only briefly viewed.   From what I can gather she accepted a position to re vamp the A & M journalism department, and then was rejected....in a clumbsy manner.

She may have been too "radical" or too something else for the A & M powers that be...

Typical.   That's all I see.

I wonder what a conservative journalism hire would look like?   That seems to me to be an oxymoron...

Chief Steve Adore,

I REALLY DO want you to get better. I truly miss experiencing your availability for all the abuse. Reminds me of that joke from the 80's about Soviet leader and chronic drunk Boris Yeltsin. If you'll remember, Boris was to the point of having to go to the hospital a lot due to his drinking habit, and some comedian mentioned after his release from one stay there, "Oh, did you hear, Boris Yeltin has been released AGAIN from the hospital, and is now back up on his feet and falling down drunk again........." Now that should cheer you up, right, Chief?

Chief Jimi Bob

Went to see Steve last evening. And he seems to be slowly getting better. I think our hour-long visit went well and he was clear and talkative for a good part of the visit.

At times he tended to ramble about any number of subjects.....but was not disoriented.

I think the big challenge will be.....when he is released what happens then? (72 years old and living alone)

Might not hurt to put our dear friend on the prayer list?.....

Thinking back to one of your messages at the beginning of spring...

Has your lawn fully recovered from "ice burn"?

Mine has made a complete recovery and is to the point where I wish I had time to cut it twice a week it is growing so fast.  St Augustine loves 80 degree nights.

Kurt,

You must live somewhere where the water supply is plentiful, if you want to mow twice a week.

I live in Parker County (which is just west of Tarrant County (Ft. Worth).  Even if I could water as much as I wanted, apart from the drought, I could not afford the water bill.  What does survive out here barely hangs on.  I have bits of St Augustine near our house and I have to baby that just to keep it alive.  We have had no rain in over a month.  The temps are in the triple digits now for over 20 days.  I can't wait for fall and cooler temps.  We walk every morning before 7:00 am to avoid the heat.

Sandra:

I guess our old friend Phil Dyer has done well for the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD).  Our lakes are about where we would normally expect them to be near August 1.  And we have access to Lake Texoma's water where it is above the "conservation pool" (ie., full) level.  So we are allowed to water our lawns twice a week. I find this a comfortable allocation.

And I am always surprised when I read about Dallas suggesting ways to update landscapes so they only need to water twice a week.  Or drought prone California severely limiting watering to only twice a week.  It makes me feel like our normal practice is actually conservative compared to other areas.

And yes, my lawn does seem to grow quickly under these conditions.  I sometimes feel like I'm a throwback to my parent's generation, but it does give me pleasure to have my landscape healthy and growing.

Kurt,

The city of Weatherford gets its water from Lake Weatherford which is over 8ft below pool level (I heard about 56% low).  Parts of Parker County can get their water from Lake Worth - eastern Parker County.  My son has a home in Weatherford.  They are under pretty tight watering restrictions.  We get our water from the Trinity aquifer.  We are not under restrictions as yet, but the water prices are so high it discourages excessive watering.  I do only water twice a week.  That is not enough to keep it green.  The soil here is sandy and even if it rains heavily it only takes one day for the ground to soak it up and the surface dry out completely, especially in the heat.  Water in the middle of the night and by noon the next day the grass (or weeds) are wilted again.

I heard this yesterday

Some old men can think fast...

Ron, an elderly man in Florida, had owned a large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back.

It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some orange and lime trees.

One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over.

He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee.

As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence, and they all went to the deep end.

One of the women shouted to him, "We're not coming out until you leave!"

Ron frowned, "I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked."

Holding the bucket up Ron said, "I'm here to feed the alligator."

Martha and I are on a Viking River Cruise, currently in Germany. Sister-in-law is housesitting. Having a great time.

Kurt, I'm not sure if my lawn issue is from freezing or fungus. The grass has come back pretty well except for several square feet where Becky the Little Black Dog chooses to.relieve herself before bedtime.

David,

The best thing for the brown spots is a little baking soda.  The urine is acidic.
