Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

When we were first married, over 50 years ago, Lisa and I would always eat at the Italian Inn on Oak Lawn on our anniversaries and when we decided to splurge. We thought that was the best Italian food on the face of the earth.

Years later, I was working for a carpet cleaning company and went there to do an estimate, mid-morning. All the last nights' dishes were piled in the sink area with roaches crawling everywhere. The carpet was rotten to the point that I was surprised that there were no lawsuits from falling customers. It was dark at night as all restaurants ususally are, so you really couldn't see the condition of the carpet. It could not be cleaned in that condition.

We never ate there again

Favorite places to eat, drink and be merry, and great memories:  Tupinambas - Dallas.  When I first started working at Glitsch, my boss, the VP of the company would invite our department to lunch, and what a lunch it was, at Tupinambas....Let us just say we didn't get much work done after lunch...

Then there was Der Schnapps Und Snacks...the German food, atmosphere and of course the beer was outstanding...

Janalu,

As I recall, we lived in a well regulated, idealistic world of better than middle class neighborhoods with an all white population (except of course for the maids and lawn care - who were bused to our neck of the woods, but did not live there).  Nothing was said of anyone who was different.  We were all just boys and girls taught to read with Dick and Jane.  Most of our fathers supported stay at home moms and milk was delivered to our front door.  Of course nothing was said of anyone with gender issues, gay issues, or even autistic issues.  As memory serves only one person stood out different, Douglas McCoy.  The school basically left him alone.  He was allowed to read anything and not to participate in class as he chose.  No one spoke publically as to why, it just was.  We had classmates who were gay, but were kept silent for obvious reasons.  The closet was closed and no one entered there.  It is sad too.  It might have helped Douglas and all of us if we really understood what his limits were and why.   I still feel empathy of Douglas McCoy, 50 years later.  All the stares, and jeers that poor soul must have endured.....

In our family orbit we have gay and trans.  My sister had a daughter who was born with Turner's syndrome.  Look that up.  This is a genetic disorder which affects the X chromosome.  She has no ovaries, and took growth hormone so she would grow at all.  She has a surgery on her heart as a result too.   My husband's nephew lives with a person who was once a woman and is now what looks like a man.  We don't ask, they don't tell.  What we do know is this:  he loves this person with all of his heart.  We don't want to break his heart so we welcome them without question.  My husband's other nephew announced last year, he was gay. He is an adult and can make his own choices and I can respect them.  Period.

Life is not black and white.  Humans come in all varieties.  What makes us either man or woman or something inbetween is not just defined by our hormones or organs, but our brains and minds as well.

To understand what it is to be gay, trans or something not quite either takes more than "how you were brought up".  Try, for example, to wear someone else's glasses.  You can put them on, but try with all your might, your eyes will never adjust to their way of seeing the world.  You can only get some idea of how it feels to see through their eyes.

Understanding is the beginning of communication.

Sandra.

Tupinambas is still open at a different location.  I used to love to eat there from the very beginning on NW Highway before they moved to Midway.  The new place is good, too on Preston .  Sure would like to have the Friday Enchiladas or Tupys Tacos right now  Oh, to eat at the Zeider Zee or Southern Kitchens once again.  I liked the Cattlemen's Steakhouse on NW Highway and I still eat at Celebration on Lovers.  Dunstan's is still open in three locations if you like mesquite flavor,  I miss the onion popovers at Jay's Marine Grill at the entrance to Love Field.  Adair's, Jakes, and Keller's still make a great burger but I miss Goff's,  Stoneleigh P. and Jaime's Gourmet Burgers.

Eating together is the result of understanding universal communication.

So, can someone do some more 'splainin on this?

CRYPTO

Hackers take $590M in latest major attack

In one of the largest crypto industry attacks ever, the Ronin Bridge that connects different blockchains revealed that hackers stole about $590 million.

Computers known as nodes operated by Axie Infinity maker Sky Mavis and the Axie DAO that support the the bridge — a piece of software that lets people easily convert tokens into ones that can be used on the Ronin network — were attacked, with the hacker draining the bridge of 173,600 Ether and 25.5 million USDC in two transactions, Ronin said. The breach happened on March 23, but was only discovered Tuesday, Ronin revealed.

The attack is the latest to show that bridges are often rife with problems. Many bridges’ code isn’t audited. It’s often unclear who runs them and exactly how. Identities of validators, who are supposed to order transactions on bridges, are often shrouded in mystery.

The price of Ron, a token used on the Ronin blockchain, dropped about 20 percent after the hack was disclosed. AXS, a token used in Axie Infinity, fell 6 percent, per CoinMarketCap.

Ronin said it’s working with law enforcement.

It reminded me of this joke

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yX27AfOEYGc

Re the grammer in the article, I don't understand how Bridges can have possession...Bridges' is a confusing completion of a confusing article...

I am guessing the newspaper editor had no idea how to correct that sentence..."Many bridges' code isn't audited''    Should it read ''Many bridge codes aren't audited." ??

I sort of know what a validator is.   Someone who earns bitcoins by constantly verifying bitcoin transactions.   Anyone can be a validator, I think.

Sandra,

I am the father of a gay, and recently married, son, but some of this stuff is getting ridiculous. Example: at Disney World they will no longer say, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls." Really?? And pa-leeeze don't tell me that some LBGQwhatevers are upset by that phrase. After all, there are 300+ million of us who aren't.

By the way, I am upset by the phrase "President Biden" but I just have to put up with it!!!

Lance,

Yes, I am female.  Yes, you are male.  Unfortunately, some babies are born with both sex organs and some are born and you can't tell which sex they are.  The parents, and doctors have to guess.  50-50 chance they get it wrong.  Not very good odds.  There are gray areas.

Indeterminate Sex - From the link:

When an infant is born with indeterminate sex, the genital organs are not visually male or female. The two could be melded together into one organ or there could be a mixture of both with various organs not normally seen together. In the past, doctors were brought in to “fix” the genitalia so it looked like one sex or the other, but that practice is becoming far less acceptable.

There is little known about why an infant is born of indeterminate sex. What is known is that one in 2,000 infants are born this way each year. When a parent is given the choice of creating a male of female genitalia, some doctors believe that choice could be skewed by the gender wishes of some parents. Moreover, the sexual preference of the infant may make the choice a bit more comfortable if surgery is put off until the child is old enough to make a decision on their own.

DNA testing and psychological therapy will be required before any treatment for indeterminate sex can be scheduled.

Lance,

I don't think the comments you have made to David and Sandra are very loving.  We are tought be be loving.

Mark 12:30

Jesus said"Israel: the Lord our God is the oly Lord: Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, with all your strength." The second is this "Love your neighbor as yourself"

Romans 13:9-10

Love your neighbor as yourself. Love cannot wrong a neighbor; therefore the whole law is summed up in love.

Think about this: what would you do if Christopher came to you and said he was Gay.  Would you tear your clothes and say "My son is dead" and bever seak to him again.

David,

I hear your frustration.  Over reaction to some issues gets my goat too.  Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls is fine by me.  I am a white female, rarely ever picked on, or discriminated against, middle class, well fed American citizen with one child, who is also considered "normal" by conservative and liberal standards.  I have no reason to complain about anything, except possibly being underpaid at times simply because I was born female in a male dominated corporate world. I have not a clue what it it is like to be gay, black, latino or any other race, gender or ethnicity.

Disney Land was nice to visit.  If I ever get the time to go back, it will not upset me greatly if they change their language when addressing a crowd of people with something other than, "boys and girls" or "Ladies and Gentlemen".  The ticket price will more than likely be more upsetting than that.

When Trump was in the oval office, I was upset.  January 6th was really upsetting.  So I get it.

I don't think I am twisting the truth.  I am just saying the way you are telling David and Sandra  it id hurtful to them and does not show love for their felings and their relatives.

Just think about love before you hit send,

What did you mean when you said, "join Janalu and say nothing?"

I speak/post here all the time and you rarely like anything I say, so why do you say that Janalu says nothing?

Your statement has something implied, but it is not computing with me, so I eagerly await your explanation, though I fully suspect it will be unpleasant for me to learn.

What dost thou implore, oh wisest one among us; thou who hast has little patience of commoners who irritate the greatest mind afoot?

Have any of the commoners who dwell near you ever mentioned that you are a rather egotistical snoot, or do they slink away fearing your ire and derision?

What exactly is it about me that you seem to detest so much?

Please, Your Majesty, inform if you can spare the time.

I wonder; Could your superior attitude be the root of your numerous failed marriages?  Or is that too sensitive a subject for you to broach here, on this forum?  You seem willing to discuss most anything else that pops into your exalted mind, no matter the effect your comments may have on others' vulnerabilities.

Lance,

You say you didn't get replies from me.

Did you private email me?

I'm sorry I didn't get your messages.  Could be my mistake, as I don't get many messages at any time.

I don't get access to this computer often, just mainly after business hours, so I'm usually in a hurry to look up certain websites of interest.

I'm sorry to have been short with you.

Tomorrow I'll be at my brother's house in McKinney, for a relative's funeral.

You and I can talk on this forum anytime, after I get back.  I have nothing to hide from anyone concerning my messages with you.  I just say what I mean, and sometimes I'm too direct, but I only wish to post on the forum in a friendly manner with all, most of the time.   I do get a little hostile at times, but it is just a fleeting moment of frustration on my part, not meant to impugn anyone's character.  I'm kinda feisty, but I don't bite.

Janala: Give him hell (or heck if you prefer). When I read your post, I was reminded of and could hear and see Maureen O'Hara in those movies where she would lose her temper - fiery, fierce redhaired-ness. Then she would simma down and beam adoration and forgiveness. All with some sexy heat. You go, girl.

Revisiting restaurant favs' again:

I first started going to Tupinambas on N.W Hwy, located somewhere across from Wellingtons' (Craig Mortons old club) and met the family. This was when Eddie was much younger. Their cuisine was an immediate hit and I met the Mom & Dad......and Eddie, who now owns the one on Central/Walnut Hill.

Another favorite "Mercado Juarez" was located way out N.W. Hwy I think, but is no longer there. Great food!

Just a whole different taste. (especially the hot sauce)

Now, from what I understand they are.....or, could be located on I-20 in Arlington.

(guess I'll have to check that one out!)

Lance, you said, "I had a great laugh today with Tommy regarding the failure of Social media as a tool for maintaining community."

That is a good point. Sadly, in many of your posts, you seem to be trying to prove it.

It would be good if all of us would express our opinions carefully without insulting other participants. It would also be good to recognize that comments directed at someone may be well understood by the intended recipient, but misinterpreted by other readers who don't share the history of interactions.

Sometimes what we say in person, complete with inflections and facial expressions, is perceived quite differently when confined to the written word. I am not an emoji user, but maybe we should make use of the emoji icon on the top row of the message forum menu more often.

This last week I explored options that included assisted living for my mom and home care, for me to get a respite from my mother's care.  I called, A Place For Mom.  Within minutes, literally, I got a call and was referred to a representative who sent me the links to 4 available assisted living centers within my area.  I also got one referral for a Home Care service company.  Within a couple of days I got quotes for the assisted living options.  On my own I also called Visiting Angels, also a home care agency.

Here is the low down folks, just in case you need for yourself or a loved one:  Assisted living comes in various levels depending upon your needs and abilities.  A one bedroom with a kitchenette and a bath, unfurnished starts at $3500 per month, the high figure was around $4500 per month for the same thing.  It is also carte blanche - meaning the more you need assistance the more they charge per month on top of that.  It includes meals, activities, and common areas, such as dining, games, outside areas etc.  It does not include help with dressing, cleaning yourself, getting your own snacks, medications, doctor visits or laundry.  All of that is extra.  Medicare pays nothing if you have more than $2,000 in assets.  You have to be dirt poor to be on Medicaid.  No assets.  Mother has assets.  So I estimated that it would cost approximately $5,500 to $6,500 per month for me to move her and have others care for her.  This will be my option should she quite walking entirely.  This amounts to roughly $65-75K per year.

Home care starts at $30 per hour and depending on who you choose.  They  will charge anywhere from a 4 hour minimum per week to 20 hour minimum per week.  All I want is one day per week, 4 to 6 or 8 hours me time with my husband and possibly our son and his wife, to go out and have fun.  I found one company with a 4 hour minimum per week that will do just that.  It is not Visiting Angels, they were high, 28 per hour, 20 hour minimum per week.  I found another agency who was more accomodating and reasonable.  Homewell Care in Fort Worth.  Bonded, insured, and flexible 4 hour minimum.

There was a great article in the Times this monring that discusses this very topic.  I suggest to all of you to read it if you can.  Here is the link:  Many of Us want to age at home, but that option is fading fast

Mother also fell last week and smacked her head real hard.  Goose egg on the back of her skull.  911 was called and dispached a heafty crew who cheerfully lifted her and sent her directly to Medical City Weatherford, where they CT scanned her head and entire abdomen.  Nothing.  Nothing but a bruise on her head.  Sent home an hour later.  She is sore as hell, cranky at times, but can still stand and walk.  As so it goes.....

Steve Keene

Janalu,

I purposely have not weighed in on the gay, gender issues because there are delicate issues that are having to be dealt with by my friends.  All of us have friends or relatives who have alternative lifestyles.  Everyone knows that I take a literal translation of the Bible when used in context with an understanding of whom the message is addressed to and the actions occurring precipitating the message.  I admit that I fail miserably at being perfect and  I am not going to try and rub salt into someone's wound when it is unnecessary.  God has to judge these things and I do not want to take His job.  He gets to take vengence for me, as well.  I think He does an excellent job.

I do make fun of Tommy because we expect it from each other.  I try to be the same, since I have been reborn a new man in Christ, yesterday, today and tomorrow.  Lance denigrates me and I take it on faith because Jesus said that if I followed him I could expect to be ridiculed and derided.  Lance has gone through so many different attitudes, jobs, relationships, and no telling what else that I never know his mindset on any given day.  Now he is making daily calls to Tommy, an admitted non believer, using that relationship to say we are not as loving as he is.   What a tangled web he weaves.

My girls and I have had retreats at sky ranch, and I personally enjoyed the fishing and the zip line through the wooded hills.  I can concur they are a Christian facility.

Sandra,

Keep up the good work with your mother.  We should all allow our aging parents to spend the last years of their life in the busom of their family.  You are a trouper.  That is a very Christian choice you are making, though you may perceive it as something else.

03/31/22 01:16 PM #24101

Steve Keene

Lance,

I am a consistent sinner and a consistent Christian.  I awake every day anew knowing I have not the ability to be perfect in God's sight, but each day I put the past behind me and begin anew striving to do the best I can to follow God's word.  Open your eyes, you are a smart fellow.  The tribulations described in Revelation and Ezekial are already here.  If there is a rapture, blind boy, you would already be gone.  God said that many would be deceived and few would see the truth.  Many believe in a rapture as you do including most of the mainstream religions.  Few believe as I do, do you recognize anything in that?  I do pray for you because I believe you are receiving strong delusions because you would not accept the truth.  I pray that all my friends could receive the truth through the Holy Spirit, if it is in God's Will.  I have learned to mostly pray that His will not mine be done for fear I would be giving godspeed to those for which He has another plan purposed.

Sandra, as you may remember, the freeze caused major damage to my brother in law.   Retired teacher, 64, now 65, mostly blind and now diagnosed with encepalopathy...which means he's fine, except under pressure not too good on judgement.   Also diabetic.

We had to put him in assisted living.   A neighbor who knw my wife was a nurse, had an alsheimer's husband who went to a place and we put David there.   He likes it because it's safe and secure. Its 9 miles away from us.   He is assisted living.  A two bedroom with roommate is 3000.   His roommate moved out after one month, so he's had it to himself.

They just put another guy in there and his mattress was very smelly, so my b n law got his own place, an efficiency for 3750.   They give him his insulin, include meals (covid issues they serve his room) and of course the senior activities.

He has money enough..Just starting medicare and sup with TRS tomorrow...

We sold his house in Houston Woodland Heights.  Listed it on Friday...had 15 showings, sold on Sunday, with formal signings on Mondy and closing after two weeks.  Cash paid about 15000 above listed offer.  It was sold for land value only...but they still wanted to look inside...

I am curious...he had three ambulance bills last year, 2000   3700    and 3200.   All related to his freeze collapse and subsequent transfers to ICU rehab, and just rehab.   His TRS insurance paid 850 or so, and the rest he is on the hook for.   Amulance service is not part of the balance billing/surprise billing laws in Texas, so eventually he will have to pay about 6000 for this.  He hit his max out of pocket with TRS at 5600...so actually will be about  11600 out of pocket for all this.

A quick search by me of this issue resulted in about 10 minutes of wasted time.   It's apparently too complicated for me, so i am giving up...  Something about how much they all charge for various different circumstances, averaged together...I guess that's a good way of doing it...

Well, just updated my mind on ambulance coverage.  It's under part B, so all covered.   Amazing.  There are exceptions (use it too much have to be approved...etc...  No wonder non medicare ambulance service is so expensive...They gotta make it up for all the medicare aged folks.   I wonder what medicare negotiates with these AMS scumbags...

What does medicare cover (amounts) for ambulance when someone has money?  I am guessing the 2000 (which was City of Houston contract,) and the other two have much lower charges negotiated by medicare, so I wonder what's in store there for him and all of us...

Wayne Gary

Sandra,

The home my mother lives in referred me to this local company that can help.in finding care for your mother.  My mother is100 and has deminsia.  She is in a home with 7 other people and 2 caregivers at all tome.

I wanted to send you detailed information about my company in case you come across anybody that needs assistance with finding a senior living facility or in-home companion agency throughout the DFW metroplex.  My company, Senior Living Specialists, is not just a website that lists several places to look at or a national internet placement organization (Ex:  A Place for Mom, senioradvisor.com or caring.com) or franchised corporation as I started my company in 2008.  It is locally owned and operated, started by myself (Paul Markowitz), after a search for my own 59-year-old mother’s care, as I saw the need for the first LOCAL, personalized, compassionate service to be the family’s advocate.

Below, I’ve provided a high-level summary on Senior Living Specialists, that helps families find the best Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care or Residential Care Home.  Please feel free to look at my website that can be viewed at:  www.seniorlivingspecialists.com.  In addition, I have attached my brochure that contains all the services that I provide to families.

Senior Living Specialists brings a personal approach to the table:

  1. We do the leg work for you by completing a questionnaire with you and then referring you to the top two - three facilities / care homes that best meet your needs.
  2. We then coach you on what’s important to look for at each facility.  You will quickly find that each place has its own personality.
  3. We develop helpful questions for you to utilize when touring, based upon going through our need’s assessment questionnaire.
  4. In addition, we will also try to help families negotiate the rates, as 80% of families have no idea that sometimes specials can be provided.
  5. Finally, we offer resources in a variety of areas such as:  in home companion care companies, downsizing companies, movers, elder law attorneys, Veteran’s Benefits and much more.

The service is FREE to each family that I help as Senior Living Specialists is compensated a referral fee for somebody moving into a community / care home, but I just won’t refer any family to any community / care home as we continue to perform due diligence and stay in touch with each family that we help.  Senior Living Specialists has been featured on CBS News, FOX News, NBC News, D Magazine and the Dallas Morning News.

Please let me know if you have any questions as I can be reached at (214) 929-5055.   If you wouldn’t mind, please confirm receipt of this email.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Paul
