Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

My tolerance for idiots is extremely low today. I used to have some immunity built up, but obviously there is a new strain out there.

As I watch this generation try and rewrite our history, one thing I'm sure of ... it will be misspelled and have no punctuation.

Sorry I haven't gotten anything done today. I've been in the Produce Department trying to open this stupid plastic bag.

Turns out that being a "senior" is mostly just googling how to do stuff.

Do you ever get up in the morning, look in the mirror and think "That can't be accurate."

I want to be 14 again and ruin my life differently. I have new ideas.

God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the world. Then he made the earth round...and laughed and laughed and laughed.

I'm on two diets. I wasn't getting enough food on one.

Apparently RSVPing to a wedding invitation "Maybe next time," isn't the correct response.

I put my scale in the bathroom corner and that's where the little liar will stay until it apologizes.

Felt comfortable driving into the cemetery until the GPS blurted out "You have reached your final destination."

My mind is like an internet browser. At least 19 open tabs, 3 of them are frozen and I have no clue where the music is coming from.

Hard to believe I once had a phone attached to a wall, and when it rang, I picked it up without knowing who was calling, and I'm still alive.

David,

And then there was old guy who got his new computer......and thought the disk drawer was his "cup holder"!

Someone told me this one was true, though embellished somewhat.

Years and years ago, an old man was trading his old Chevy in for a customized van; brand new with all the goodies. Including a small fridge, cupboards for food and bedding to sleep 2-4. And, the vehicle was fully loaded with equipment; power windows, door locks, gauges, power driver seat, tilt, cruise, tape deck and carpet mats.

Excited to get his new toy he drove home and unloaded all of contents and trash from his old vehicle. Additionally he  brought his fishing rods, tackle box and various and sundry other items.

When he arrived, there was his beautiful metallic blue and silver "Good Times" van......cleaned and gassed up. He loaded it carefully with all of his gear, groceries etc.

Before the salesman could tell him all about it and show him the features, and what each was for.......he said..."thank you son, but I got to get to the lake before everyone else catches all the fish!"

So he embarks on his 50-60 mile journey to his favorite fishing hole. After entering the freeway he gets the vehicle up to speed and decides he's hungry.......

He wakes up in a hospital to find two officers standing there visiting him about what happened. He is coherent, but has bandages around his forehead, a broken arm in a sling.....and various cuts and bruises.

"Sir you're quite lucky. Do you happen to know why you veered off the freeway and wrapped your new vehicle around that light post?" "I mean, youre lucky to be alive", offered the other officer.

The old man thought a moment and said......"Wait, I just bought that brand new van (which was miserably mangled) and headed to the lake. I got it up to speed on the freeway, and set it on that "automatic pilot" or whatever it is. I was just going to the back to get a soft drink and make a sandwich......and find myself here."

It was all the officers could do to keep from laughing at this poor guy for mistakiing the cruise control for automatic pilot!

They left him alone.......and laughed all the way down the hall........

Just bought my ticket for tomorrow night's game.

David,

I have my ticket. See you tomorrow at lunch.

Jerry,

That story has a 10ft gray beard.  Now we have people with Teslas with auto pilot running into building and squad cars with lights on.  For real. You would thnk with $100 millon aircraft piloted by well trained pilots with hundreds of hours of training having problrms with autopilots that it is a good idea to put an autopilot in a $60,000.00 car and have it controlled by a person with no training.  I can see mult-millon dollar law suits doing in the company. Who thought that is a good idea.

02/24/22 06:12 PM #23854

Jerry May

Yeah, he should have waited on the fishing, and found out all about his vehicle.

Rumor has it, he settled his lawsuit with the dealership that sold it to him~j

Kurt,

Can you tell me why the US is NOW going to be supplying Ukraine with more heavy artillery, as General Petraeus is saying, evidently, if I heard him correctly on the evening news, and just exactly why we weren't doing this for the past several months?  The Ukrainians seem to be a determined people who have enjoyed their freedom from being part of the former USSR, so I can't understand the reasonng for NOT helping these people try to defend their country.  I know that the pacificists don't like for arms to even exist in this world and are against the use of such, but since our world is not a utopia, isn't it a good idea for men to have arms for protection and for invading enemies of the world?

The belief that sanctions will do the trick to hold off insane monsters whose souls are possessed by evilness is delusional to my mind.  I just can't believe the rationalizing of many of the reigning people of our era, who believe that you can talk and reason your way out of evilness and selfish greed.  Many men are animals, pure and simple, and it is necessary to fight them off sometimes just as a person is called to do, by killing them where they stand, before they lunge for your throat.

Wayne Gary

Lance,

I plan on being there.  Has the place changed from Plano?

02/24/22 07:05 PM #23857

Wayne Gary

Janalu,

The US has been supplying arms including rockets an other weapons for over a month.  The entire time we have bee preparing troops for deployment to NATO countries. The news showed many large aircraft unloading equipment in Kyiv.  Since 2014 the US has supplied $2.7 billion in military aid.

02/24/22 08:56 PM #23858

Kurt Fischer

Janalu:

I bow to Wayne's feedback on your question about arming Ukraine.

At this point, I doubt we would be able to deliver substantial arms to Ukraine, particularly large weapons, since Russia either has control of or soon will control Ukraine's airports.   At this stage of the game, smaller weapons (shoulder fired rockets, etc) will probably be most useful if the people of Ukraine intend to continue to fight after their larger cities are taken.

It's a sad story.

02/25/22 09:49 AM #23859

Jerry May

Lance, I plan to be there; yes!

You all have been talking about area HS sports, including RHS' dominance in

basketball.....but did anyone see the new re-districting of area sports.

For instance: In football, Highland Park is now moving to 7-6A, which includes Jesuit, Irving MacArthur,

Irving, Irving Nimitz, Lake Highlands, Richardson, Richardson Berkner and Richardson Pearce.

Jesuit and Highland Park will meet Sept 30th at Highlander Stadium. (should be interesting)

Pelosi has stated "We must applaud Biden's brilliance at what he did to handle Putin!"

What?  What world is Pelosi living in?

Biden didn't even ask for Putin to be ousted from SWIFT!   What exactly, Miz Pelosi, did Biden do?

He did exactly the same thing that Obama did when Putin took over Crimea.  What a shock!

Obama's third term?

You betcha'!

Learning from history?

HA!

And Ms. Ketanji Brown Jackson?  Obama's good buddy since 2009; moving up the ranks as Obama has envisioned.  Another of his favored activist Progressives positioned just perfectly, to take over Breyer's post, which he was more or less forced out of, by impatient Progressive/Marxists, scared that he wouldn't die soon enough to suit their goals.

As for the approach of March 1st, do many Texans think Gov. Abbott will be re-elected, or has he screwed his chances by his poor handling of the border fiasco?

On another note, "Congratulations to the RHS Basketball team!

Are there not enough students flowing into RHS to support its viability without busing students from other areas into the school?  I believe the school is a Magnet school now.  Did it become a Magnet school because it didn't have enough neighborhood students entering from surrounding middle schools?

Janalu:

Regarding RHS being a magnet school...

You raised an interesting question.  Reading up on it, I see RHS first became a magnet school in 1987, so it's been quite a while.  On the "supply" side, apparently there was overcrowding in the other high schools (especially Berkner), so RISD decided to create an Arts/Law/Science magnet "school within a school" at RHS.  Today there are the following magnet programs:  Communication, Computer Science, Culinary Arts, Law, Robotics, Manufacturing, Science,  Theater Collective (Technical Theater and Theater Performance), and Visual Arts.  The kids in the magnet programs take courses within their areas as well as core courses with the rest of the RHS kids.

Now, your question was whether RHS didn't have enough kids and whether the magnet program was a way of filling up the facility.  I don't know.  Based on what I've read, even back in 1987 there were close to 500 kids in the magnet program, so there must have been excess capacity at RHS.  Plus Berkner was overcrowded, so there was a need to lure students to another facility.

It would  be interesting to know what the enrollment was from 1969 to present, but I can't locate those statistics.

Lake Highland has about 2800

Richardson about 2770

Pearce at about 2650

Could not find Berkner.found it    2642

Thats for 2022.

Says you must be 2225 for 6A and for some reason they ok'd Highland Park for much lower than that in our

7 6A district next year...

Lake Highlands is 95th most students in the state whereas we are about 100th.

Plano and Plano West have about 2700 each, but only for grades 11-12

All other schools I saw were 9-12 populations.

Kurt,

Those are interesting facts.  RHS has some fascinating magnet programs.

Quite different from our days there.

Thanks!

It's striking to me to know that young ladies or young guys can go to RHS and study the culinary skills.  Cool!

I remember taking a Home Ec. class and a sewing class at RHS, and while mixing some ingredients together, one time, with a girl whose name I can't remember, we were making some muffins, for some reason.  I guess we were starting out with some easy recipes, and she asked me how I knew that one stick of margarine was exactly a half cup.  I told her, "Because it says so right there on the wrapper, see it?"  And she said, "Wow!  I never even paid any attention to the wrapper before!   Were you reading the wrapper just now?"  I told her that my Mom had showed that to me way, way back one time, when I was baking brownies, about the age of 9 years.  I asked her if she did much cooking at her house.  She told me, "No.  My Mom and I rarely ever cook anything.  We get take-out."

Janalu, during the Reunion weekend we had a tour of RHS. We stopped in the kitchen for the culinary kids. Pretty nice. Are you a good cook?

The indoor football facility and the weight room were especially impressive.

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

I can cook fairly well when I'm in the mood for it.  I like cooking during the holidays, but cooking every day gets tedious.  However, I'm sure that most every lady will tell you the same thing.  It just goes with the territory, and we have to think of good nutrition for the growing kids.  As time goes on, we tend to let our husbands fire up the grill to their heart's content, and they seem to like the task.  At least, mine does, and he is pretty darn good at bringing in some tasty fixins'!

Do you like to grill, David?

02/28/22 07:42 AM #23870

David Cordell

Janalu,

I am embarrassed to acknowledge that Martha does the grilling, too. I used to do the grilling, but somehow she took over. Not sure what happened to cause the change in duties. I don't recall a particular failure. Maybe she got tired of my incompetence, foot-dragging, and/or whining. Maybe I should give it another go.

Lance,

Your memory fails you.  You offered to prepare a steak dinner for us in thanks for our allowing you to stay at our house for five nights, with your son staying with us on the fifth night.

You may view your misleading post as a bit of fun -- mere teasing. That's not how I view it.

Does anyone know if the following is true? Was the language used in the SuperBowl halftime ceremony, or just in the original songs?

TUNE IN TO WATCH

For all you folks that thought the Super Bowl was still an event perhaps worthy of uniting our population or that the halftime show was great family entertainment.

I have some stats and info for you about that particular performance:

Look up the words to the songs that were performed during halftime.

F-word 13 times,
N-word 16 times,
MF - 4 times,
P-word - 3 times,
B-word - 24 times

What a great example of songs for our kids to learn, huh?

Remember, the NFL approved everything ahead of time that was broadcast. They have turned the professional football business completely over to the thugs.

Don’t believe me?

Snoop Dogg (one of the “entertainers” performing in that halftime show) collaborated on a song in January with the following lyrics:

"All you n*****s out there
Take your guns that you using to shoot each other
And start shooting these bitch ass motherf****ing police
That'll impress a motherf***ing n***** like me"

Hillary's actively lying again as I write. (Push me over with a feather!)

Trump made a sarcastic comment at, I believe, the CPAC meeting recently, and the audience laughed, knowing of his sarcastic bent.  Apparently, Trump said something to the effect of, "Wow!  Did you notice the brilliance or GENIUS of Putin; Putin's actions and his statement as Russian troops entered the eastern Donbas region?   Putin declared that he & his troops were "Helping the people of Eastern Ukraine reclaim their joy of Russian heritage!"  Putin was effectively 'pulling them back into Russian alliance, so that they could be free from Ukrainian interference in their lives.'  Or, in other words, "The Russian heritage folks were eager to re-enter Russian association to have Ukrainian-ism eliminated from their lives, since living in Ukraine had been a miserable experience for them." (Oh, really?)......  It was, indeed, true of Putin.  He wanted the press to print THAT story...... that 'bringing the Eastern Ukrainian Donbas region BACK into Russian governance was a very good thing!'  And Putin was doing them a BIG FAVOR!..........HOWEVER.....

It wasn't true.  The Eastern province of Donbas was enjoying their independence, and they had no plans of changing.

Even though Trump was JOKING about Putin's genius, the mainstream press RAN with the story that "TRUMP CALLS PUTIN GENIUS!!!!!!!".................AND.....

Only a few hours later, I heard Dana Bass, on CNN, asking a conservative person on her show, "What do you think of Trump calling Putin a genius?" ..............AND..........

This morning, I heard MIZ Hillary telling an audience of her fans, that they must go out and ask all who will listen, "Why would anyone with any intelligence call Putin a GENIUS, as TRUMP DOES each time he refers to the guy?"  "Yes, my friends!" she continues.  "Trump calls Putin a GENIUS, and TRUMP  'understands,' Putin.  Trump is so-o-o-o-o-o INVOVLED with Putin in many ways we just can't even begin to know in any reasonable capacity, just as he was way back in 2016, when the TWO of them COLLUDED AGAINST ME!!!!

The woman knows no shame.  She even lies about being named after Sir Edmund Hillary.

She REALLY believes that she has a chance of becoming the next Democrat candidate for president, and she is already actively trying to get in the limelight again, to stay relevant to anyone watching anything that may be defined as current news.

Also, have you seen the way Jerry Nadler's NYC district's revamped lines have been drawn?  I haven't seen it, but I hear it is a JOKE!  They say it is contorted beyond belief and it meanders all around the "high dollar" areas, even taking a u-turn at one point.  And the Dems say that Republicans do this type of nonsense all the time! ----It is rumored that they are trying to get more representatives for the House this year.
