Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Lowell,

He was talking about all of them.  If they believe in Christ, they are Christian...Christ--ian.  I thought you understood that.

I heard the Unitarians believe in God, but not Christ.

Lowell and David,

Here is a scene from that movie that went underwater on the budget, the Codfather.

Janalu,
Wonderful quote from a man who knows, what it is to count the cost of truly following the Christ the Bible makes known. Jewish families actually declare family members 'dead' to them if they receive Jesus as their Messiah. "I have decided to follow Jesus...no turning back" has deep meaning for them.. as it should for us.

Lowell, there is a HUGE difference between "religion" and true Christianity. Religion is empty without the transforming Truth of Who Jesus is. I know. I lived with the emptiness of mere religion for a very long time. There are true Believers in every "church" but there are also those who have embraced religion without ever coming to know the freedom that comes with an actual encounter with the Living Savior Who, on the cross, paid the price for the redemption of the sin of mankind. Godspeed.

Praying today for our country. May freedom continue to ring. No matter what the outcome, my faith is in the One Who reigns for eternity. No. Matter. What.

Steve,

Not sure. But pretty sure I know of one.....who'll vote for himself!

Lowell,  that's good news. I'll have to tune in!

Well.....hopefully I wil find out something encouraging this Thursday. (I see the specialist again after a month)

He said progress in my left eye "will be slow" If this is slow, I'll be 75 by the time I can see well again.

I would ask everyone to keep me in your thoughts and prayers.......as patience is a tough virtue to maintain!

But I am thankful I have family and friends like my fellow class!~j

Prayers for your eye, Jerry.

Meanwhile, we are watching Thunderball tonight in honor of the late Sean Connery. Can't bear to watch the election coverage.

Jerry,

We love you and will always keep you in our prayers.  You are a Christian example that we all aspire to emulate.  May God use you to show the rest of us how we should handle adversity.

David,

Tommy woke up and saw there was a shadow over the election.  Now we can expect 6 more weeks of whining and Trump bashing.

Steve,

Trump bashing by Tommy? I haven't read any in over two years. You can only watch re-runs so many times.

David C:

I had no idea Sean Connery, the best James Bond,  passed away.

I remember that I spent a Saturday at Miles Winnett's house one October when we were at RHS. Other than diving in his pool only to find out the the low 80s was way to cold for swimming in an outside pool, we also took a bus ride to the Palace theater in Downtown Dallas to see Thunderball......see - I actually can remember stuff from back then.

BTW - my grandson, Maddox and his father, who were earlier diagnosed with COVID are doing much better now. Never had to go to the hospital. The only major problem was that his father, Barry, lost his sense of taste and smell. Since he's doing better, I assume that's no longer a problem, but then again, I only asked how he was doing and my daughter never told me about the progress on that one.

Wayne:

I listened to the first part of the Gettysburg address by Charles Laughton - he said "our fathers" -- I could have sworn it was "our forefathers"....I searched online and it looks like "Fathers" seems to be correct.

Looks like a Biden win, but we'll be OK if the Senate stays red, especially since the Republicans had so many more seats to defend than the Dems. If the mid-terms are like normal, and since the Dems will have more Senate seats to defend, maybe the Republicans can make big gains there and even turn the House.

Wait a minute! Am I already talking about the next election??

Anyway, it looks like the markets are happy with divided government.

The S&P 500 is up by 5.7% since January 1, not counting the dividend yield, so that probaly moves it over 7% through November 4. Not shabby considering all that has happened.

I just hope Biden doesn't appoint someone like Elizabeth Warren to any responsible positions and that he doesn't try to placate the left by ramping up regulation and going supergreen. Good news: he says he won't run for a second term, so he doesn't have to satisfy anyone if he doesn't want to. Maybe he will revert to a semi-centrist and try to get the two sides to work together. I can't imagine that the Republicans will treat him the way the Dems have treated Trump. I just hope he lives through the term so we won't see a President Harris!

Honestly, though, I think Biden shows some signs of senility.

 David,

I can tell you of a way to see how the Dems have been caught cheating with mail-in ballots being dumped into three states, after the election night tallying came to a sudden halt, which startled Trump and his advisors that night, Nov. 3rd.  (Startled everyone watching TV that night, since it hadn't happened ever before)

There were charts/graphs of how the tallying was steadily going along, being used by several official people in this particular tallying room in Wisconsin, in a small town.   These graphs used blue lines for Dems, and red lines for Repubs, and one graph was showing a blue rising line, ( on a cellphone) next to a red rising line on the same graph, when all of a sudden about the time of 3:30 AM election night, something odd happened. ( The TV stations, at this point of the broadcasting evening, switched over to "the talking heads" we are all familiar with seeing on Cable News channels.).....but the blue rising line took a direct, straight path upward, recording that ballots had been added to the gradual rise of the blue line.  Officials recording these graphs were observing the blue rising line continue to 'inch' its way up the graph, then, all of a sudden, the line went straight up on the graph, indicating that a massive "dump" of new ballots had just been added to the tallying table.  It was very evident to anyone seeing the graph.  It was later stated by "someone," that those ballots were ALL brought in at once to the room, and they were ALL for Biden only.  When asked by "someone" how a mail sack could be brought in with ONLY Biden ballots in this manner, from one town of 'picked up' ballots,  and all be marked for Biden in this unusual way?---Well, it was never explained--- (It was later learned to be about 106,000 ballots)   How could a "dropped off," mail bag contain ONLY BIDEN ballots and not one single TRUMP ballot be included, from an ordinary town's mail drop? None of the other mail bags had been delivered like that. Someone had obviously placed a massive amount of BIDEN ONLY ballots in one bag, but had not done this action in any other bags known to these tally-ers.  The tally-ers just put the ballots quickly into the whole 'she-bang,' so to speak, and "those in the know" seem to be saying that this same action happened in PA two or three times, and it happened also in Arizona.

I know that the way I have written this note 'does not compute very well' at all, but if you watch the video I will give you, you can hear from experts more clearly, as to how these guys have determined this news, and how Rudy Giuliani has learned of it, so as to file lawsuits in Wisconsin, PA,, and in Arizona, as I write.

Type in this:  YouTube; Election 2020 Chaos: Is There Still Hope for Trump?/ Glenn TV

Skip over the first of this broadcast, and go to approximately the last 20 minutes, to see what I'm speaking of.

It's obvious now that Dems shut down the Election Night figuring, so that they could manipulate the outcome of the tallying process.  (And some deufuss recorded it all, on a cellphone!)

Given where we are in the election cycle, I thought it appropriate to post my musings on a Christian response to the election results.  Since it is an overtly Christian message, I have posted it in the User Forum section under Religion: Pro and Con so as not to force others to read through it.  I hope it is helpful.

If Trump tries to steal the election in the courts and mass protests are needed to prevent a coup, I am ready. I bought a riot helmet and prescription swim goggles (for tear gas). I have a super heavy duty umbrella that can double as a riot shield. If Attorney General Barr deploys I.C.E. storm troopers to attack citizen protests, I plan to be on the front line!

Janalu, I have little faith in the election officials in large, Dem-controlled cities. I lived outside of Philly for 11 years, and I am not at all surprised that they are trying to keep the Republicans from truly observing the count. I sense that Trump will lose at least one of GA, NC, and PA. Small point: what happens if a mail-in voter dies before the actual election day?

Kurt, very thoughtful analysis.

Bob D., that guy is a lunatic.

Separately -- I was not a big supporter of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), but it looks like doing away with it would have serious impact on Medicare unless some provisions in the Act are preserved through other legislation. This is from Kiplinger.

What Happens to Medicare If the Affordable Care Act Is Overturned?

Experts say if the ACA is repealed or rescinded "it would be devastating for Medicare." Here's what might happen -- and how it could be costly for you.

by: Catherine Siskos

November 4, 2020

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death heightened the stakes in a case scheduled to appear before the court Nov. 10 that could reverse improvements to Medicare and raise out-of-pocket costs for beneficiaries. The case, California v. Texas, which was filed by 20 Republican-leaning states, challenges whether the Affordable Care Act can exist without the individual mandate to buy health insurance. A Republican-controlled Congress removed the financial penalty for those without insurance in 2017.

“If the ACA was repealed or rescinded in full, it would be devastating for Medicare,” says David Lipschutz, associate director of the Center for Medicare Advocacy, which along with AARP and Justice in Aging filed an amicus brief supporting California and 16 other Democratic-leaning states defending the health care law. Many of the law’s provisions that strengthen the program’s fiscal solvency also strengthen consumer protections for beneficiaries, he says.

“The ACA’s changes are so ingrained in the program that people don’t remember what Medicare was like before the law,” adds Casey Schwarz, senior counsel for education and federal policy at the Medicare Rights Center. Without the ACA, she says, the doughnut hole for prescription drug coverage, which closed in 2020, reopens, and “the expansion of preventive care services goes away.” The effects encompass both traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans, eliminating ACA improvements that helped drive costs down for the program and beneficiaries. Here’s what happens to Medicare if the court invalidates the law.

1 of 5

The Medicare Doughnut Hole Returns

Since 2011 the ACA has been steadily closing the prescription drug coverage gap, known as the doughnut hole, in Medicare Part D by requiring drug manufacturers and insurers to pick up more of the cost. The hole was finally closed this year with seniors paying 25% of the cost for both generic and brand-name medications and manufacturers picking up 70% of the tab; insurers kick in the remaining 5%. Before the ACA, seniors paid 100% of prescription drug expenses while in the doughnut hole.

2 of 5

Medicare Preventive Care Is No Longer Free

Thanks to the ACA, there’s no copayment or deductible for potentially life-saving screenings for cancer, diabetes, heart disease and other illnesses. Flu shots and annual wellness visits are also free. Before the ACA, says the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, beneficiaries had to pay 20% of the cost for most preventive care services.

3 of 5

Medicare Advantage Plans Won't Be As Advantageous

The ACA requires Medicare Advantage plans to spend 85% of premium dollars on health care, not profits or overhead. The plans also can’t charge more than traditional Medicare for chemotherapy, renal dialysis, skilled nursing care and other specialized services. (Beginning in 2021, Advantage plans must accept enrollees with end stage renal disease.)

Those restrictions dramatically lowered costs for plan participants since the ACA became law in 2010 and enticed more Medicare enrollees to choose Advantage plans. Over the past decade, the average Medicare Advantage premium plummeted 43% while enrollment soared 117%, according to the NCPSSM.

4 of 5

Medicare Insolvency Accelerates

A study cited in the amicus brief filed by the Center for Medicare Advocacy found that the ACA extended the solvency of the program’s trust fund by eight years to 2026, mostly by finding new sources of revenue and slowing the growth of payments to all providers. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that reversing those changes would cost the program $700 billion over 10 years. “Medicare would face almost immediate insolvency,” predicts the Senior Citizens League in a report.

5 of 5

Medicare Premiums and Medicare Deductibles Will Rise Faster

Curbing provider payments also lowered costs for seniors, helping to keep Medicare Part A deductibles and copayments in check. Similarly, Part B premiums and deductibles are much lower than projected before the ACA became law. From 2011 to 2020, Part B premiums increased 23%, the Senior Citizens League found. From 2000 to 2009—the nine years before the law’s passage—Part B premiums rose almost five times faster, soaring 112% over that period.

Lance,

You misunderstood my post.  That picture and comment are a copy of something I received from a family lawyer friend who is a yellow dog Democrat.  I posted it because I found it ridiculous and somewhat funny.  It reminded me of Barney Fife.

I'm way too old to fight young kids -- but I do have a concealed carry permit and can still shoot in an appropriate situation.

My own opinion is that the Democrats are desperately and blatantly trying to steal the election.

Watching the vote counting --

It occurs to me that Democrat vote counters in Philly are pretty good at math. It seems that they can count by fives, at least the Biden votes.

Medicare

Who among you has an Advantage plan? With what company?

Martha has a Medigap with Humana and is considering switching to Humana's Advantage plan to save a few bucks. I'm a bit concerned about specialists coverage, especially without even knowing what sort of specialists might be needed in the future.

I have AARP Advantage PPO with United Health care. (You do not have to be a member of AARP).  I have found it to have many specialists in network and will pay out of network to any provider with a slightly higher co-pay. Some of the differences between coverages is copays, hospital stay coverage and others. You might want to contact my agent and she has a number of companies

You can go their website and check on doctors in network.  I have doctors affiliated with UT SW newd and Bayor Healthcare

It is of my opinion and I am just going to say one more little thing here regarding democrats desperately trying to steal the election.

Bull Crap.

If anyone of you were so concerned , you should have put you money where your mouth is and volunteered as a poll worker… They were begging for them… and so many have had to work 24 hours straight and under the stress of crowd mentality whackos banging on the windows.. in Michigan… ( Even thought the GOP representatives were allowed in to monitor all along but the workers had to keep the numbers within the limits of capacity of the building and covid safety standards)

All the state officials have been doing their best to keep citizens safe from covid, the poll workers safe and to make sure every citizen's vote counted as accurately as humanly possible.

I personally think we should go to a unified national standard of voting to eliminate all of this mess.. I know it is the states responsibility but in this case , it is a mess…in every election.. .. We should also go to an One Man  , One Vote and get rid of the electoral college that is so antiquated.

On another note , Colorado has now joined the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact with . YOu all might consider that as an option.

The National Popular Vote bill will take effect when enacted into law by states possessing 270 electoral votes (a majority of the 538 electoral votes).  As of July 2020, it has been enacted into law in 16 jurisdictions possessing 196 electoral votes, including 4 small states (DE, HI, RI, VT), 8 medium-sized states (CO, CT, MD, MA, NJ, NM, OR, WA), 3 big states (CA, IL, NY), and the District of Columbia.

The bill will take effect when enacted by states possessing an additional 74 electoral votes.

The National Popular Vote bill has now passed a total of 41 state legislative chambers in 24 states. It has also passed at least one legislative chamber in 9 states possessing 88 electoral votes (AR, AZ, ME, MI, MN, NC, NV, OK, VA).  It has been unanimously approved at the committee level in 2 states possessing 27 more electoral votes (GA, MO). The National Popular Vote bill has been introduced in various years in all 50 states.

Lance,

Medicare funding will run out in four years.  There was a big tax cut, remember???  Since the Republican control the senate and will continue to do so, it seems.  There ain't no money for it and if they ditch the ACA, that sews it up right there.  Mitch McConnell will block any legislation aimed at funding Medicare or Social Security.  No new taxes.  I doubt the gridlock will change no matter who is President.  The plan is to get rid of any and all social programs for years.  This is the final nail in the coffin.

David, Bob D., Jan

Here in Dallas county the Dems are very corrupt.  In 2018 the Dem county Chair , Lawyer Carrol Donavan, had the petitions to run in the primaries had 3 people forging her name on the petitions and a notary notoriseed them.  When the Republicans pointed this out, her response was she did not think she had to personally sing the petitions and the Republicans did not have statding to contest the forged signatures.

The doing away with the Electorial College would mean the the states of New York, California, Florida and Texas would basically control the outcome. It would take the smaller population states out of the process. This is what the founders were afraid of when they started the Electorial College.  There have only been 4 elections where the winner did not have the popular vote.

Sandra, David.

Just because the ACA goes away does not mean the companies will do away with all of the policies.

ACA has increased insurance costs to working people with company insurance and increased deductions.

A lot of people have coverage under ACA which amounts to a "Major Medical "policy with $5000 - $10000 deductions.  My wife had paid insurance from her employer who was a pathology clinic and she hd to spend $5000 before they would pay anything. Insurance?

If you remember when the The ACA was passed in the House Pelosi told here party to approve her plan and many of the Dems wanted changes and were told to wait until it was signed then make changes which they were never able to do.  When it went to the Senate the Majority leader said to approve without any changes so it would not go to a conference comm. and have changes made that Pelosi might not like.
