Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Anyone want to offer an opinion about the debate?

Melody McNeil (Tarrillion)

Nope!

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

David,

I'll go ahead and jump in with a few thoughts and observations.

I thought the whole debate was too bombastic and at times, because the two opponents were talking over each other, with the moderator trying to break them up, it was hard to hear anything at all throughout.

I noticed when Trump came out on stage, he looked like a blank slate, more or less, just appearing to announce, "Okay, I'm here.  Let's get this over with."  And right away, he started to interrupt Biden and also talk over Wallace.  My husband and I said almost in unison,  "Hey Trump!  Settle down!  Don't act like a bully," but of course, just like many men I know, he was obviously upset over recent posting about his taxes, and mixed with everything else that gets thrown in his face constantly, he was in a fighting and arguing mood.

Biden surprised me by being able to stay relatively queued in, and was able to stay aware of the subjects at hand, although, at times, he didn't make too much sense with his statements.  He said at one point that the Green New Deal was not part of his platform, but we know that it IS part of what Bernie has insisted to definitely be in their platform.(What else is Biden unaware of?)  At one point, he said something about "that is not MY idea of what I want,"  which made me think that his party still has not told him about how his administration is going to run, in that, he doesn't seem to realize, evidently, that OTHERS are going to make the important decisions, not him.  He may be able to participate in the beginning for a while, but before long, he is going to be gently retired.... at least, that is the way I suspect it will go.

I thought Trump made some good points here and there, but I was hoping that he would NOT be hostile toward Biden or Wallace.  As we saw, it was not to be.  Hopefully, in the next debate, he will behave better.  He scares the snowflake people and he plays into the CNN narrative of being a bully, which women don't like.

Biden didn't want to acknowledge his son's business dealings, which I thought/think is a subject everyone wants to have explained, and which is a fair subject to discuss, because it involves the possible next president's life from the recent past few years.  Why can't we know of what the son, along with the father, had "set up" to benefit all the members of the Biden family, when it involved foreign countries and foreign money?  Didn't we just go through a two and a half year, very expensive ordeal about Trump's supposed involvement with a foreign country and foreign money arrangements?  Also, Trump's kids were investigated, right?

I felt sorry for Chris Wallace.  He must have been exhausted by the end of the fight, and probably had an awful headache from the tension.  Tonight was similar to watching a rehash of a civil war battle without the weapons blazing.

I saw snippets of the debate on the news. SOOOO glad I didn't watch.

David, Janalu

I watched just a few minutes of the debate.  When Trump mentioned the Dem platform on socialized medicine and the manafesto Biden said "I am the Party and there is no manafesto".  My take is Biden is throwing out the Dem platform for his own.

Wayne,

No need to sock it to me, but thanks anyway.  I am forced to get around this week as my daughter is getting married this weekend and I have rehearsal dinner, wedding and reception on the agenda.  I am sure I am the designated greeter, toast maker and gift transporter of the event not to mention the financier.  I have to get a last minute final fit for a tux.  I wonder if I can rent two pairs of shoes and wear the larger size on the swollen foot.

David,

To be fair, Biden exceeded the low bar I set for him.  Trump was too much of a bully and needs to tone it down for a more measured response in his next debate.  I am sure he was angry about the revelations that broke in the a.m. of how dishonest the Democrats were in trying to remove him from office.  He got Biden to abandon the Democrat platform on at least two issues which will anger the socialists.  He made some good points and Biden had to lie or refuse to directly answer questions several times.  Trump was evasive on a couple of issues himself.  I don't think anyone's vote changed after the event.  I don't like Chris Wallace, but he has a thankless job.  I would rather see a Tucker Carlson moderate the event.

Wayne,

My mother always said, "The president proposes; the Congress disposes."

A left-wing Congress will give him left-wing legislation, and he will sign all of it to burnish his reputation among his left wing peeps.

Steve,

Congrats on the upcoming nuptials. Hope your foot shrinks. If I were you, I would pay for the extra pair of shoes if they don't let you have them gratis. If you rent only larger shoes, the shoe on the smaller foot will feel like a clown shoe and you're more likely to trip.

Steve,

Good to hear you are doing better.  I would get the Copperfit socks and wear them at all times. They will help circulation and keep blood from settling in the leg.

Hope the wedding goes well.

I watched the clip of "Uncle Tom".  I remember how many times I have heard  Dems call people either "Oreo" or "Cookies"  meaning black on the outside and white on the inside. They have also refered to latinos as "Cocanuts"  meaning brown on the outside and white on the inside. I also remember when Tony Sanches was running for Gov of Texas he was cought telling a group of Latinos to "Vote their color".

When it comes to racisim the term African-American is very racist espically when refering to someone of multi-racial background like Obama. It acknoleges his father from Africa but ignores that is mother was Irish.  The Dallas news now has stopped using the term it now uses "Black"

Humor, although you'll be the judge.

  • Why do they sterilize needles for lethal injections?
  • Do they have reserved parking for non-handicapped people at the Special Olympics?
  • Is it true that cannibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny?
  • If it's tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

  • Whose cruel idea was it for the word "lisp" to have an "s" in it?
  • Since light travels faster than sound, isn't that why some people appear bright until you hear them speak?
  • How come abbreviated is such a long word?
  • If it's zero degrees outside today and it's supposed to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold is it going to be?
  • Why do you press harder on a remote-control when you know the battery is dead?
  • Since Americans throw rice at weddings, do Asians throw hamburgers?
  • Why are they called buildings, when they're already finished? Shouldn't they be called builts?
  • Why are they called apartments, when they're all stuck together?
  • Why do banks charge you a "non-sufficient funds fee" on money they already know you don't have?

This is my age 68 update...

Steve, my back 4th 5th vertabre has arthritis, bone spurs, stenosis, and bulging disks.  The back doesn't hurt, but when my body gets tired, it gives me pain in my hip, and more neuropathy in my feet and toes.  Excercise and pain meds, as well as steroid injections have failed to improve my situation.  But,. I can ride my bike and walk to and from my golf cart.  By the end of 18 holes, I have pain and neuropathy...so, I carry a stool with me.

I play with some very very slow methodical players.  I set up my stool on the edge of the green and sit and wait for my turn.  I am a very fast play (but not good.)  I also retreat to my golf cart if I am through with the hole instead of being courteous and waiting out each slow players' Jack Niclaus style slow playing bullshit.

My stool was 9.99.  I got it at Dicks.

I know Dicks stopped selling automatic weapons, but you should still get the stool to sit rather than stand during your greeting duties.

It also goes into the shower.

David;

It would be a stretch to call that a debate.  And Chris Wallace doesn't ever need to be host of a debate again.

Bob D.

You are absolutely correct in saying that the Blacks shouldn't be stereotyped in any way, since they should be measured on a bell curve the same as anyone. There are many successful Blacks who have not fallen into the victimization trap, but have risen to heights far exceeding the race baiters and jealous dropouts who call them 'Uncle Toms,' not just in sports or in the acting or 'rapping' professions, but in all professions.

Bob D.,

I wonder why God said people with a flat nose could not enter the temple in Leviticus.  I have no doubt God knows things the rest of us don't.

09/30/20 04:03 PM #19067

Bob Davidson

Janalu,

Thank you.

Incidentally, I did not feel the least sorry for Chris Wallace -- I thought he disgraced himself and professional journalism in a way that reminded me of creepy Candy Crawley.  He hectored the President with completely made up Democratic talking points: assuming that critical race theory is benign, demanding that Trump yet again denounce the largely imaginary white racists for burning the cities, accepting Biden's fantasies as though they were reality and badgering Trump.  He shut down questions about Biden's crooked son, the actual Obama record, and the Demos real reaction to Coronavirus.

I went from seeing Biden as yet another small time dirty hack politician to realizing that he is actually willing to do or say anything to get himself elected over us.

Very nicely said.

Thank you.

What do you think about various issues?

About immigration --

I believe in legal immigration -- two of my grandparents were immigrants.

I don't have a well developed concept of the qualifications that should be required of legal immigrants, but I think 1) most should be based on how the immigrant will benefit this country, and 2) some should be allowed with refugee status. Again, I don't have a sense of how this should be determined.

I do not believe in illegal immigration.

I believe that deporting all illegal immigrants is not realistic, but....

  • We must stop illegal immigration
  • Illegal immigrants who commit misdemeanors or felonies should be deported
  • Even when illegal immigrants are allowed to stay, they should never be allowed to become citizens (i.e., should never be able to vote) because they came here illegally.

09/30/20 10:25 PM #19070

David Cordell

Bob D,

Your black gunny story reminds me of my cleaning lady, Teresa. She immigrated from El Salvador, and one might expect her to defend illegal immigration. However, she came to the US legally and is now a citizen. Not sure when she came (at least 25 years ago), but it could have been under refugee status because of the problems down there. Anyway, she is adamantly against illegal immigration. Her daughter was born here and graduated from UT Dallas.

Some disconnected thoughts:

Last night we rewatched the Biden-Wallace vs Trump program.  Terry wasn't talking back to the TV so we were both calmer and it looked different.

Trump was acting like I do when I'm at my worst in court -- when I have an unfair and/or stupid judge, an outrageous opposing counsel without a sense of truthfulness, a client I like and feel like has been victimized, and a lying opposing party I really, really despise.  The more of those factors that are missing, the easier it is to keep my cool and let the other side step in their own mess, but it gets overwhelming at times.

Does anyone else know about the Harris County Republicans' suit in the Texas Supreme Court about the voter fraud in Harris County?  The affidavits by the ex-FBI agent and the ex-HPD captain claim that Biden's Texas campaign chair and the asshole Rodney Ellis who is my personal Harris County Commissioner, the current county clerk, and some other Democrats have a set up to add about 700,000 Dem votes that have been harvested from the homeless, nursing home patients, and other non-voters.  It fits with the courthouse rumors that Diane Trautman abruptly resigned as Harris County Clerk earlier this year because there was something so rotten in the clerk's office that she was afraid to be near it.  (Courthouse rumors are a lot like high school gossip -- constant, always salacious, and generally at least a bit true.)

On second view, Biden didn't seem so evil, just a silly hack in over his head.  Wallace was obviously there to save him from himself, like a judge who interrupts testimony for no good reason when the party he favors is hanging himself.

The immigration lawyer in our building -- who has a large billboard on I 10 -- showed up this morning driving an Aston Martin instead of his usual newish Cadillac.  When we walked in together, he said his business is booming so he bought himself a new toy.  I thought to myself, "He's still short, 100 pounds overweight, and always looks sweaty." -- and realized that I am actually a bit jealous of that car.  He probably thinks I'm old, balding, and can't afford a nice car like his.  (I actually like the guy and have referred clients with immigrations cases to his firm.)  I am inured to Jim Adler "the Texas Hammer" from TV and his son who are also in our building and their Shelby F-150s in the parkiing lot.

Fall is finally here in Houston -- walking the dogs in the morning I've worn long sleeves all week.  They are both hyper-energetic and I enjoy not sweating.

Bob D,

I only watched snippets after the debate, but I saw Ari Fleischer make some comments. He said that it started off OK, with both responding without interrruption in their first set of responses. Then, he said, Biden was the first to interrupt, and he did it three times during that second set of responses by Trump.

Not sure if that's true, but it could suggest that Biden's plan was to get under Trump's skin to get him to show his dark combative side.

Separately, apparently the White House press corps is goading Kaleigh McEnany to get Trump to say, "I denounce white supremacy." It isn't good enough, when asked, for Trump to respond, "Of course I denounce that." No, apparently the word "that" is intended as a dog whistle to tell white supremicists that he doesn't really denouce them. The hectoring seems to be led by John Roberts of FoxNews. Problem is, Trump has said it publicly in the past.

Note in this CBS News clip from August 5, 2019, after the El Paso shootings, that they acknowledge that Trump denounced white supremacy, then they show a recording of Trump after the Charlottesville incident appearing to say there are good people on both sides of the racism issue. But what he was talking about was the issue of whether Confederate statues should be pulled down. Then they go into the gun issue to tie Trump into NRA. (Orange man bad!)
