Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

No, I really didn't. I never heard of Slick, a wrestler. No wonder.

Jan,

You really should watch "The Five" for a week. That's real journalism, not the sources you're obviously relying on. The stuff you just said has more than 1 error in it - I'm talking facts, not opinions, if you want to discuss, which you probably won't. Continuing as a "low-information" voter does nobody, including yourself, any good.

Funny it was mentioned that Newsom should run...  Really , watch it... it is interesting..  watch the whole thing..please..

I will look up where the FIVE can be seen.

Jan,

Most of us saw the debate on FoxNews between Newsom and Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis far out-shown Gavin Newsom.  Newsom couldn't explain many situations that had transpired in his own state of CA, during his term(s) in office.  He looked pretty darn foolish and pathetic as a leader.

But I feel sure that was a broadcast you didn't even know happened not too long ago.

That's not to say that Newsom can't be an interesting interview on a talk show.  He IS a graduate of higher education.

Janalu, I don't expect anything different from you. Hope u watched this anyway..this is how the other half of America feels..

Well Jan,

I didn't expect you to understand the tenor, or agree with what we were discussing earlier either, but I will watch the clip.  I think Bill Maher has mellowed lately, and I sometimes find him amusing, to a degree.  I think Newsom is a reasonable guy and family man, but I don't like the ideas he has when governing.  He could change though, if he desires.

I would have voted for Nikki or DeSantis, but it doesn't look like it will be in the cards this year.  Trump is a man who is boorish and sophomoric at times, but his governing philosophies have been fairly good so far.  Now what might happen in the future is to be hoped for in a good way for our country.  We are facing some BIG enemies coming up soon. Some truly scary stuff on the horizon.....

Janalu- huli... I did miss the broadcast and have tried to find the full debate but only can find youtube short 3 minute clips.. of poop on the streets of SF. etc.

Don't give up hope on Nikki ..a lot of democrats are voting in the Republican PRImaries for Nikki..and there independents in the land, too .

Watching The Greatest Night in Pop on Netflix. It is a documentary about the making of the We Are the World video that raised money for the starving in Africa in the mid-80s. Very interesting. So many performers at the top of their games in one room. Quincy Jones conducting. Can you imagine trying to wrangle Micheal Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Smokey Robinson, Bob Dylan, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Cindy Lauper, Huey Lewis, Kenny Rogers, Kenny Loggins, Paul Simon, Harry Bellafonte, Lionel Ritchie etc.? It was taped late at night and deep into the morning right after the American Music Awards because all these recording Artists would be in Los Angeles at the same time. It was funny to watch them get each other's autographs. Lionel Ritchie had hosted the AMAs and won six awards, then went to the We Are the World session. When he got home at 8 AM after We Are the World, that's all he could talk about with his family. They didn't know what he was talkng about.

Jim,

I call Newsom 'Slick' because of the way he slicks his hair back.

Some talking heads call him Mr. Hair Gel from California.

Jim:

I feel the same way about Jimmy Vaughn and have felt that way for a long time. When we were in high school, I remember that the consensus was that he was really good - about the best in the Dallas area. I thought so too, but then, I was not as good as he was, back then. Now that I learned more about the guitar and I've lived through possibly an age of music that spawned what will probably be known as the greatest guitarists of all time, I can not put him in that group.

I went to Eric Clapton's Crossroads festival in Dallas many years back. Listening to all those great guitarists was just overwhelming to me. Eric Clapton, B B King, Billy Gibbons, John Mayer (who really surprised me), Jeff Beck, and other really good ones were playing in jam at the end. I saw one after the other back off and let someone else do a solo. I even saw BB King and others back off and motioned to Jimmy Vaughn to take his turn. It almost embarrassed me to a point. It was almost like they invited him on stage because he was related to Stevie and were letting him play despite his actual talent.

As an aside - back when we were in high school and looked up to Jimmy Vaughn, I remember a time when Stevie was a joke of sorts. I'm sure Tommy will remember my story about that angel.

(I just checked - I had no idea - I had forgotten that the Crossroads festival  in Dallas happened 20 years ago, in 2004!)

Jan,

That was an interesting softball interview of Newsom, I think (and already thought) he is a formidable adversary. He is bright and personable. He's just several notches too far to the left for my liking.

Biden is not fit to be president, right now. His decine is obvious, even in the past year, and his peak wasn't so great anyway. Add almost five years and what do you get? President Harris, either through death or the 25th Amendment.

The Dems need to push Biden out.

Now, as for me, I hope Biden is the nominee because that is the primary way that Republicans can win. I fear that Newsom would beat Trump.

I have repeatedly said on this forum that I don't like Trump. That said, I will vote for him over Biden, Newsom, Hochel, Whitmer  or whomever the Democrats put up. Note that I didn't mention Harris. I don't think the Dems are that stupid as to nominate her.

If Trump would stop being such a jerk, he would beat Biden by 20 points. It troubles me that he doesn't have the brains or discipline to realize that he gains nothing by appealing to his base in the way he does. They will vote for him anyway. It's the people on the fence to whom he needs to appeal.

Back to Biden, even in his combative news conference yesterday after the special prosecutor's report came out, Biden "misremembered" by confusing the name of the president of Mexico (Lopez Obrador) with the president of Egypt (El-Sisi).

About the classified documents, neither Biden nor Trump has clean hands. That said, I suspect that Trump felt, rightly or wrongly, that as president at the time, he had the right to move documents. Biden was a Senator, not president, during part of the time when he removed documents from a SKIFF room, and he must have known that what he was doing was illegal. I suspect that all recent ex-presidents have taken documents home to help in the writing of their memoirs. I don't believe any of them would do so with nefarious intent.

Well, Mr. David , We both agree on one thing , smiley I think most of the “ citizens” in these United States do agree that both parties could have done better this time around to pick better suited candidates to run in this year’s presidential election…  and as for me , I will have to stick with Biden as you , Trump .. cuz I have no other choice..  I will always be more of a democrat than a republican . Yes, we have extremes in both parties.

If Newsom had been the democratic nominee , I would have been ecstatic. AND he has really white teeth.! wink My worst fear as you know is Trump… the worst candidate America has ever elected president in our entire history, in my opinion.  It scares me to death.

I guess , If I had to vote republican , it would be for Nikki… who isn’t headed to possibly , prison.  Another worry of mine , is Trump is going to push all his lawsuits into appeals that don’t get addressed till if ( he gets elected) president … then I wonder if he can then claim immunity.

Yep,   We are all frustrated in America , leading to more division.  Oh well, life goes on , I guess.

Does anyone reading this pay for online storage, like with Google or some other entity?

I have a couple of gmail accounts that I rarely use, and I just realized that my free 100MB of storage is full and they are going to send armed guards after me. Or something like that.

I'm thinking about this version from Google for $99.99 per year for 2 TB. Any thoughts?

David W,

Actually you told the story on the forum of how you rejected SRV as a potential band member WAY BACK so I think that's the story you're referring to. I know Stevie was playing at Lee Park some on weekends in the late 60's and early 70's.

My old friend Robin Siler 1951-2005, played with Stevie in Krackerjack in December 1972 to February 1973 in Austin (thank you for that, Mr. Craig Hopkins, the numero uno SRV fan, the owner of the SRV fan-site as well as some of Stevie's stuff and he wrote multiple books on SRV - I saw Craig Hopkins' display of SRV stuff in southern downtown Dallas in April, 2007) where ROBIN was the 1st guitar and Stevie was the 2nd. Can you imagine? I never saw Robin play except on youtube; he also played bass, pedal steel guitar, and keyboards, apparently all self-taught. Finally, Robin didn't graduate from Hillcrest in 69 because he wouldn't cut his hair and got expelled, and his late sister Virginia 1948-2015 told me that it really irritated him that he had to get his GED.

Also the rhythm section in Krackerjack was Tommy Shannon on bass and "Uncle" John Turner on drums. As you undoubtedly know, they were the ones on Johnny Winter's first albums and they also played with Johnny at Woodstock. And as you know, Shannon was SRV's Double Trouble bass player when they achieved international fame.

I think you had said you didn't know Robin Siler? How about bassist Sonny Collie? Dallas-based guitarists Mike Morgan and Jim Suhler both knew Robin pretty well, I think. Suhler went to his funeral at Sparkman-Hillcrest from what I learned. Morgan would tour and also play locally, with Robin on bass, sometimes. Also Sonny Collie told me that occasionally when Tommy Shannon would be feeling the effect of the previous night's fun, sometimes he would be called upon to replace him for a gig(s?).

Concerning Jimmie Vaughan, from what I've heard of your playing, I would MUCH rather go see YOU than Jimmie Vaughan, and DAT'S DA TRUF!!!!! YEE HAW!!!!

Finally, concerning SRV guru Craig Hopkins, I saw him at the Allen TX Public Library in spring, 2011 and he had cassette recordings of Stevie from about 1969-70. PHENOMENAL PLAYING just like his later career. So he was born fall, 1954, which would make him 14-16 in those recordings. You knew IMMEDIATELY that you weren't listening to his brother Jimmie!!!!! hahahahahahahhaha....................

I think Trump, with Reagan, are the 2 best Presidents of my lifetime, both certainly in the top 10 of all time, perhaps top 5? Both Swamp outsiders - BIG DUH!! Top 5 worst (top 10?) are all Dems, of  course, including the 3 worst of our lifetimes, 1) Biden, 2) Obama, 3) Carter - certainly top-10ers, and the first 2 (all 3?), certainly top 5-ers of all time.

And it's SO simple, Vote for Trump and the country will improve dramatically & hopefully quickly, especially if the R's can hold the House and take back the Senate. Vote Dem, and we will continue the death spiral to oblivion - with no future possibility of help without violence, I believe, since the Dems NEVER relinquish an inch of control once they've seized it - such different behavior from SO MANY Republicans, even from those Swamp Republicans that are especially wishy-washy (many of the Senators-R are notably awful) & end up giving the relentless, destructive  Dems what they want. And there are other non-Swamp, so-called Republicans worthy of rebuke as well.

This death spiral is just the culmination of 100+ years of the mother of all poster children of collapsed mighty superpowers/empires, the totally-misnamed Progressive viewpoint, just another variation of Marxism prettied up with a misleading title. It began in our Presidents with Republican Teddy Roosevelt and it's been a slow devolution (like putting a live frog in the pot and slowly increasing the heat to get the result desired) into the world-wide joke that the Dems, the unquestionably provable, historic party of racism to this very day (reference the monumental Mark Levin book "The Democrat Party Hates America" with impeccable footnotes, sources, i.e., proof out the kazoo) have turned us into in every way imaginable. (with some help along the way from some Republicans also). Now ask me what I really think,,,,,,,,,,,,,

David W,

Forgot one thing. Before I knew of or had heard Jimmie Vaughan, but I had already been awed by Stevie, somebody was telling me that Jimmie was even better than that Stevie of 1977 that I had just seen. I didn't realize until many years later how wrong that opinion was!

02/09/24 03:28 PM #28975

Jim Bedwell

Jan,

I liked hearing that you possibly could vote Republican, although it sounds like you're a never-Trumper.

Anyway I was a reliable Dem voter even after almost 2 years of Carter's administration. So I voted Dem in the 1978 elections even though I was beyond beginning to question what Carter was doing.

So if it makes you feel any better, it took me a few YEARS before I realized completely what the Dems were doing to me and the country. And I believe they've gotten only far worse since then.

But as I've shared, the only Dem I've voted for since 1978 was Mark Begich, who was running for Mayor of Anchorage AK. You see, I was working for the city in their downtown offices and knew first-hand what a disaster the incumbent Republican was. Mark was a small businessman so that clinched it for me. And I voted for Begich's re-election too.

Many think I'm a brainwashed ideologue. No, I was that as a Dem voter, but since then I've restored myself to being a free thinker. I don't know too many born-again Libertarians, forced to vote Republican, such as myself. As I shared this past week, I think the experiments with weed legalization have proven that it should never have been illegal. I'm not advocating its use, but it's really the only minor-league drug I know of, and I know a lot about illegal drugs whereas I don't know that much about the legal ones, including wine (like Tyrus, I never liked it), EXCEPT for the pharmacy items that get you high - hahahahhahahha!!!!!

And it doesn't matter how much stronger the weed is today. That's yet another misleading argument in today's politics. It just takes less smoke/vape to get you to the desired high; you still reach the point of diminishing returns with successive hits. But even with weed, if you're more than a casual user, like all drugs, you encounter the problem of tolerance. I was no casual weed user so when you smoke or vape and don't feel much, what's the point? And with my spiritual conversion and all that, I likely will never use that way again - or any way really. I have no temptation to drink or do other drugs now. Thank God for His taking that away from me. He really has changed me. I'm no longer an introverted person lacking in self-confidence,  etc.ad glorium..............

Jimbo,  before I jumped in last nite commenting , I read your, Janalu’s and David’s diatribes and thought you all were sitting there bogarting a joint and getting way to high and delirious.. but decided not to say anything…No offense , but I think you all are goofy... as I am sure you all think I am daffy.

AND Jimbo, I almost re-posted the " I don't like sand youtube" , just for you... after you said

"I don't like Mitch McConnell, John McCain, Mitt Romney, all 3 Bushes, the 2 Cheneys, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins of Maine, et al, and all Republicans - by the way, unfortunately I had to vote for all I just  listed other than McConnell, Collins, Liz Cheney & Jeb Bush. Also please don't think I don't realize how you're comparing me to sand - too bad that those adjectives, are actually appropriate for the Dems in control of the current tyranny, not for people such as I.

Judge Jeannine just raised a GREAT point.

Nixon said 5 words: "I am not a crook."

Biden said 5 words (last night on TV): "I know what I'm doing".

"The Five" just had a bunch of corrupt-legacy-media comments from today, defending the indefensible Joe Biden from last night's disastrous press conference. Those clips truly had me bellowing in laughter - that batch of stupidity said it all. It reminded me of what a preacher said once.

1) God never changes, and thank Him for that. You can ALWAYS rely on Him when it counts.

2) The world never changes, and that's truly unfortunate. Just one sin after the other, often without their even realizing they're sinning. And one sin separates you from God.

3) You, however, listening to this, SHOULD be changing. You have had the scales fall from your eyes when you received the free gift of salvation, due SOLELY to the Lord Yeshua's (Hebrew name for Jesus) covering death on the cross, where He took the punishment you all deserve, once for all people from all times for all sins. So if you're not changing......................

Jan --

"Diatribe"??? Moi???

Politically, Biden is a dead man walking.

It is ridiculous to think that he can do that job for five more years. Even one year is a stretch.

He screwed up even trying to contradict the special counsel's report.

Here's the thing. If Biden would withdraw from the campaign, the media and regular folk would lay off. He would have a year of cruising into retirement and taking a victory lap. Instead, he's going to go down in flames as a failed, rejected candidate.

Five months ago, I wrote this letter to Jill Biden and posted it in this space. I stand by it.

September 8, 2023

Dr. Jill Biden

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

Washington, D.C. 20500

I realize that Jill Biden will never see this letter. I also realize that my suggestion is not in the financial interest of whoever is reading it. So be it.

If I were Jill Biden, I would pull President Biden out of the presidential race.

First, he has a good chance of experiencing the ignominy of losing as an incumbent. According to the CNN poll, he is tied with Trump nationally in the popular vote, which suggests a loss in the Electoral College.

Second, he could win, but the stress of the job could kill him while in office, making the very unpopular and incompetent Kamala Harris president.

Third, he could win, but the rate of his obvious deterioration will increase, and that deterioration will be the headline in the historical representation of his presidency.

Fourth, his obvious decline will become more frequently reported by the media. It could cause triggering of the 25th Amendment, and he would be the only president to be removed by use of that Amendment.

If President Biden pulls out, he’ll a hero for putting his country before himself. History will be kind to him. He can rightly claim, in recalling JFK, that he is “passing the torch to a new generation.” He can write his memoir and live in luxury the rest of his life as a respected elder statesman. New York Governor Hochul, Michigan Governor Whitmer, and California Governor Newsom will be happy to jump into the fray, and they would have a good chance against the Republicans.

Honestly, no one thinks President Biden will be able to maintain his already-weak physical and mental condition for the next 5 1/2 years.

To be brutally candid, it is an act of selfishness for President Biden to stay in the race, and it is irresponsible to encourage someone at his age and in his condition to run for president.

Respectfully,

David M. Cordell

Looks like a fellow music lover & ex-event-co-watcher from Portland (A CONSERVATIVE - GO FIGURE!!) just paid TONS of money to get a good event photo somewhere - he is a photographer and real character, and I miss some of my Dem-voting acquaintances from there as well - the entire time I knew him, his job was ticket-scalping, memorabilia-selling & some pics - no regular job - really smart guy - well, he's a conservative.

Plus here the guy is - he's about my height - YEAH!!!! I hope most people know who the other guy is in the pic. My buddy was so devious and in getting autographs & celebrity pics - he would pretend to be a star underling, find out what hotels they stayed in, and then call them to insure that they were staying there, etc. He agreed when I told him that he should have been a detective:

Here's his daughter with the late B.B. King:

And here (in Yankees cap this time), he is with, I think, JIMMY BUFFETT?!?!?!!? This was taken at the annual Portland Waterfront Blues Festival and those other 5 people, including the 2 females are all photographers so they could get access to stars at that HUGE-CROWD event - you can tell by their identical badges.

How bout dis'un?
