Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

I readily admit that I strongly believe that restricting the accessibility of sexually oriented books in elementary schools is extremely important. Parents who want their children can buy or check out those books elsewhere, although I think reading such material to young children is a form of child abuse.

Listen to Republican Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) read from two books that so-called progressives think are appropriate. I ask you, should these books be available in public schools? What heterosexual  interactions should be fair game for elementary school libraries?

In my opinion the LBGTQXYZ community has painted Democrarts into a corner from which they seem incapable of extricating themselves.

Patti, I edited your post only to shrink the font size, but I have a question. What does "mortar anchovy filets" mean??

Austin area girls, catching up and laughing non-stop.

Left to right: Susie Shannon Rudd, Paula Whitfield Jameson, Terry Mitchell Reddy, Judy Livings Stewart, Martha Mize Mareth. I am sorry to say that I only dated one of them! My loss!

David,

I think Patti was saying that the cook should crush the anchovies in one of those mortar and pestle apparatus thingys.  Julia Child probably had one, along with other cooks who really get into cooking.  Didn't we sometimes use those in chemistry class?  (molcajete is what the Spanish call them.)  I think you can get one for yourself at William-Sonoma.

Also, I heard Senator Kennedy reading those passages on TV today, and when he asked the Democrats and Progressives how they thought that material was appropriate for young kids, they had no truthful answer.  They tried to say that nothing should be denied to anyone, since there are so many ideologies which NEED to be presented, so as not to deny anyone's beliefs; nothing is to be construed as inappropriate in a free society, they say.

Most parents would disagree with that notion.  There ARE some writings that are considered porn-type stuff that adults might read, but children should be allowed to have their innocence for as long as parents may desire them to have.  Just because there are gay folks who want others to believe that they have certain sexual proclivities they think are fine for themselves and others as well, does not mean that it is fine for them to push their preferences on innocent children at anytime, anywhere, just so they can feel like they matter in society, with equality.  They DO matter in society, and they can have equality too.  I think that they basically want to "STICK IT" to Christians, to be blunt.  They think there is TOO MUCH CHRISTIANITY GOIN' ROUND, and they don't like to have judgments projected toward them.  The gays may also believe there is TOO MUCH ISLAMIC belief floating around in the US too.

Maybe they should consider other countries where they might feel more comfortable, since there are plenty of countries with zilch Christianity, and some without Islamic beliefs as well.  If I were a gay person, I would simply choose to be private in almost all ways....but that's just me.  To each his own.  I didn't think that Bill Clinton's idea for our military was a bad one----"Don't Ask, Don't Tell."   Made sense to me.....but I believe the gays thought it was REPRESSIVE...

Experts Believe Aaron Rodgers Ankle Injury A Result Of Being Unvaccinated

Sep 12, 2023 · BabylonBee.com

Article Image

NEW YORK, NY — After the devastating reports came out that star New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers had suffered what is suspected to be a season-ending injury to his Achilles tendon, experts immediately expressed belief that the injury was a result of Rodgers being unvaccinated.

"Taking the vaccine would have likely prevented this," said Dr. Arthur MacArthur, a sports physician who has never treated Rodgers. "Research that we just came up with a few moments ago indicates there is a new COVID-19 variant that specifically attacks tendons and ligaments, particularly in the ankle. So Aaron Rodgers, due to his unvaccinated state, clearly came down with a sudden case of what we are referring to, as of right now, ‘COVID ankle.'"

The excitement around the Jets had grown to a fevered pitch this offseason after the team acquired Rodgers, a Super Bowl winner and 4-time MVP, from Green Bay. The Jets made the move against the advice of members of the scientific community, who argued Rodgers's mere unvaccinated presence would likely result in the death of the entire team. "He has not been vaccinated against the virus everyone has received protection from," said one concerned scientist. "This obviously puts the protected people at severe risk from the person who isn't protected. It's science."

At publishing time, the Jets vowed to press onward, despite the setback. "We lost the guy who gave us any realistic chance of having a great season," said Head Coach Robert Saleh. "But at least we won't have to spend all day, every day around someone who dares to be unvaccinated."

what sick person writes filth like that.  Plus what person in there right mind would want their children exposed to this sickness.   Shame on who published that filth.

David,

Regarding the Democrats' efforts to disqualify Trump from office:

I pretty much agree with Mark Levin's famous assessment of liberals' mental health so I think I understand why they want people with whom they disagree persecuted, imprisoned, and prevented from running for office, but I don't see how you can think like that.  Not wanting someone to be your party's candidate is so completely different from wanting him imprisoned, framed for non-crimes (or as the swamp people like to say "on novel legal theories") and banned from running for office, that I can't wrap my mind around anyone who is not an antidemocratic (note the lack of a capital "D") fanatic thnking that way.  Don't you agree that a republic is only possible with free speech and open elections?

On another note, I watched the lesser Republicans' TV show:  to me only DeSanis seemed plausible as President.  Ramaswami said a lot of things I strongly agreed with, by he seemed callow, like a bright college kid.  Hailey's warmongering is a disqualifier -- so is reminding people that she's a woman every few minutes -- that's a cheap politician's trick that is also a disqualifier.  Cristie is a nasty blowhard and a bully -- the worst parts of Trump without the intelligence or wit.  Pence, a very small man and a Judas.  The others, insignificant wastes of my attention.  That said, I'll hold my nose and vote for them ahead of any Dem, like I did with Romney and McCain, since they will destroy civilization more slowly than the alternative.

My grandson Jonathan started kindergarten this fall.  This week he joined Cub Scouts at the successor to the pack my son and I were involved in.  (They have a new number since they lost their old sponsor, but they are considered a continuation of our old pack.)  Jonathan is thrilled, his dad is eager, and I love seeing him happy.

Scatter shooting while wondering whatever happened to Patti Killen Reich - oh wait, now I know!

Patti,

Yes, I was 5'5" tall at the beginning of the 9th grade (average height for the ONLY time in my life) at RJHS and grew to a lofty 5.6.5". But I haven't shrunk any yet!!! Since you're a master Italian chefess and have been divorced twice (as I have now - surprisingly I haven't been with a woman for a few years now since my 2nd ex and I have a desire to change that occassionally but now in my old age after my 2 disastrous failures, NOT MUCH!!!!!), when you shrink a few inches, give me a call!!! Actually a few months ago I asked a woman if she wanted to get coffee at 1 of my churches, she said "not at this time", and I was surprised at myself, not only how I was not really disappointed much about that, but also I was more relieved than anything!! I haven't approached anybody since and have rejected a couple of advances from more than one lonely OLD woman now since last year (although they were not attractive unlike the one who said see ya later)!! hahahahahaha!!

Tommy,

Yes, I'll choose proactively not to mention you or interact with you, but I won't rule out some interaction if the desire arises - so I can always just ignore you and your boneheaded remarks & diatribes like so often in the past. That will be better for me if not for you and everybody else.

Jan & Patti,

Yes, I remember, in particular one Leslie Miller and you, Jan, as the Most Fun & Laugh Loving of all the lovely RHS Sheilas.

David,

Wow!! Austin Female Eagles Soar (AFES)!! Obviously those 5 haven't had the weight problems over the years like so many of us, myself included. But the only grandparent I knew died at 78 and for MANY MANY YEARS she didn't look NEARLY as good as ANY of those 5!! GOOD JOB, LADIES!!!!

Paula Whitfield,

I remember going out on a date with you once in the 10th grade, I believe it was. We went over to somebody's house and I don't remember who was there, what happened, or anything else much about that evening. I do remember being my usual awkward, verbally inept, socially ignorant self however. I also remember that the former eye interest you showed in me before that day was NOWHERE TO BE FOUND after that!!! But I'm not complaining. I have had that effect on a lot of females, including my 2 wives (with those 2 it took a greater length of time however - hahahaha)!!

By the way, Paula, my late friend Luke Wulfjen (RHS '70; 1952-97) told me that he went out with you also in high school.

Ron,

Don't worry. I don't feel any shame about graduating a year late. If I did, I may not have mentioned it, although I still very well may have..........anyway, will I meet you for the Burritos at the Grey Eagle (or preferably earlier in the day) on September 27 (i.e, 2 weeks from today)? My email is jrbedwell@comcast.net if you want to reply there........

All,

I got the low-down on Steve yesterday from another Eagle and we ALL need to pray for him NOW!! AMEN!!!

Bob D,

Thanks for your post about the 2 political sides. I still like Vivek since he's nailed the unconstitutionality of so much of the federal government, and like no one else has in my opinion. I'd still like to see him be the VP nominee since he's so smart and quick on his feet and with his mouth (but I did NOT see the debate so that Vivek opinion of mine may be in need of work now?). I still like the Donald, obviously a lot more than David & perhaps you, but yeah, my voting record is pretty much set in stone in the future, I'm thinking, as yours seems to have been & mine definitely was due to the exigency of no realitistic alternative to R or D.

Also I like Larry Elder but he couldn't get on the debate stage and since he lost in California in Governor Newsom's recall election, I can't see his getting the nomination. And if Newsom wins next year in November (I obviously think Biden is now toast for 2024), that will definitely be the last nail in our republic's coffin in my mind - this has been a gradual devolution over the last 100+ years - or more really; too bad we really got off on the wrong foot initially with the slavery but otherwise the republic never would have happened - God allows sinful man plenty of rope, doesn't He?

Lady Lanajuju,

Here's an Emmylou song I had forgotten about (there are SO MANY - she's one of my very favorites with that unique voice):

By the way, there are many Tennessee state songs, including "Tennessee Waltz" and "Rocky Top" (last one written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant). Actually there is an I-75 town about 20-25 miles north of Knoxville named Rocky Top, but its name was changed from something else not that long ago. Rocky Top is really the name of some rock outcropping in the Great Smokies Mountains, which are just southeast of Knoxville. Also the Tennessee River technically begins just to the south of downtown Knoxville at the confluence of 2 eastern rivers and then flows west before dumping into the Ohio River (not the Mississippi).

Also in my country travels, I was coming back home and went from Rush LImbaugh's hometown of Cape Girardeau, MO into Illinois down to the southernmost town & point of Illinois, Cairo, Illinois. Ulysses Grant was living & working in his father's store in Cairo, Ill when the Civil War broke out. Anyway downtown Cairo, Illinois today is SAD looking! Businesses all gone and/or boarded up. Driving to one of my churches in older East Knoxville also you see some abandoned/run-down houses & other buildings, often avoidable with good governance.

Finally, as you go over that bridge from Cairo, Illinois over the Ohio River into Kentucky, if you look south over your right shoulder & over the water as you're getting to the other side, you can see the Mississippi River's confluence with the Ohio as the Mississippi is flowing eastward and then does a right turn with the Ohio, which then "disappears" into the Mississippi as they flow southward.

Chief Minihaha (Steve's clever (as always) name for me)

RUSS,

Remember our pranks quite well! I think Phil Dyer dubbed you PEPE LE Phew! after that game. Donna Knowles was in on the prank.

My dad used to call you the Red Headed TERROR. He loved watching you play ball!

He loved, Loved the Yankees. Installed a PBX phone system in Micky Mantle's house and palled around with him...getting comp tickets to games. Poor YANKEES now, Steinbrenner must be rolling in his grave!!!

Won't be in Costa Rica until November. Just flew out of California with clients. Back in Arkansas getting ready for visit from kiddos, and cheffing for clients.

Di, my sister, is living in Pottsboro, selling/managing Dockaminiums & Yachts on Lake Texoma

Patti,

By the way, I was new to RISD in the 9th grade so nobody knew I was a shrimp. I remember that our late '69 classmate Mark Durham was about my height and I think he ended up, what, over 6 feet tall maybe?

Also I read that when Dennis Rodman graduated from high school he was 5'11" and when he graduated college he was then his NBA height of 6'8".

Oh, almost forgot to tell you. I read somewhere that the VERY MOST LIKELY couple to divorce is that one in which both newlyweds were divorced twice previously - so if you do shrink, if you're ever single (dunno if Reich is your current OR widowed/divorced surname) maybe ignore what I said about seeking romance with me....hahahahaha!!!!!

Also you may or may not be a Christian. As you know, I am, and as I know, God will look out for me. So maybe that woman who didn't want coffee with me was also divorced 2x before?!?!?!?! YEE HAW!!! GOD IS GOOD!!!

Reich Killen (Patricia)

David,

Yes to sex always, especially since you never know when one might pop your clogs. LOL!

Thanks for shrinking recipe...apologize, just copied and pasted on the run.

The mortor and pestle will grind your canned anchovies & give a salty brined taste.
Not a strong taste...like how anchovies enhance Caesar dressing. Jannalu was sweet enough to give you
the "drill" on mortor and pestles.

OR

Buy mini food processor for $10 at Wallymart.

On another note: Central Market has FRESH anchovies, which are divine with squeeze of lemon, best EVO, and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes. Sure in your travels to Italy you might have seen on menus.

JIM, just caught your last post! You are a card! If I shrink anymore and, indeed, if I were single, would give you an invite to enjoy your wicked humor.

My Guy, answers land line because I refuse to. If a male friend calls for me, he will ask how much the caller makes. Rather surprised caller asks, "Why?"Steven then says,"Want to know if you can afford her and take her off my hands.". Calls me the one woman economic stimulus program....LOL! Spend money like a drunken sailor!

You continue on being the card you are, the general female population of your parts has to be entertained. You would never be BORING!

You know what? I'm not sure if the most likely couple to divorce were both JUST MARRIED 2X OR ACTUALLY DIVORCED 2X before their glorious 3rd (for each) nuptials took place - I'm thinking you have to be more on your guard if, as in my case, your prospective next wife, has ALSO been DIVORCED twice? Maybe my marrying a twice-married (or once-divorced but twice-married) woman would be OK statistically? Gee, it would surely be nice if we had a professional who would know about such stuff, maybe a psychologist or whatever? And if so, who might share that data?

09/13/23 04:36 PM #28131

Jim Bedwell

Thanks, Patti for your generously kind remarks!! Truly I know I don't deserve them. But I need help with some of my ignorance, although actually I have noticed some raised eyebrows & guffaws the last year here. But PLEASE don't encourage me. But, on another note, do you think maybe that you might let me know the phone number(s) of any available daughters (or maybe granddaughters?) you have? Also PLEASE BE REASSURED that I would NEVER be insulted if you offer up anybody else like nieces, et al ad funium (can't use sons, nephews or the like)!!!! Like I tell all my new acquaintances, I am not ashamed of asking for phone numbers of anybody else's daughter, and now that I live in or near Appalachia, I no longer have to deal with any provision about relatives!!!!! Yes, 1 of my preachers has a surname of Sparks, one also in my ancestry!!! With a surname that rare, I'd be flabbergasted if we weren't 4th to 10th cousin somehow but his great grandfather Sparks was a Kentucky illiterate so the line ends there. And yes, I've already kiddingly told him that I'm going to steal his mother away from her 2nd husband - she's in the pews with the rest of us - thank God that pastor laughed since he's an ex-athlete. YEE HAW!!!!!

Did you hear that even the WaPo's David Ignatius said Biden needs to go.  Who would have imagined?

Sweet Stevie!

Think postive thoughts!  You can beat this thing!

You are much loved by all of us!

Russ,

You had me worried. I thought you were mad at me because of the Babylon Bee post, but I guess you were talking about the Senator Kennedy post.

About Steve Keene, I think it is best not to discuss his condition in much detail in this type of venue as a matter of privacy. I hold out hope that the confusion will decline as they make more progress with the physical issues.

I visited Steve today.  He was glad to see me.  If you go see him park in the parking garage on the North side and go to the Orange elivators.(The first set of elivators on the North end of the hospital.

I tried to confirm he was in room 1270 .  The info desk asked : What is his birthdate> In did not know.

They then asked for his phone.  I did not know. Then they asked for his address.  I did not know. They then said to go to the room and see if he is there.

Jimmy Bedwell,

I like Emmylou's voice too.  It is unique, clear and sweet, with a lovely southern influence.  I also like that she is genuine and unpretentious.  Pretty too!  I've enjoyed her style for many years.

I'm glad to hear you are touring around your new area, enjoying it all.  Charles and I saw some of Tennessee a few years ago, and enjoyed the historical Civil War tours of Franklin TN, plus the "Hermitage" of Andrew Jackson--very interesting to see it all, and in addition, seeing the historical slave quarters in the back property distance.  It prompted a soul to think of how it must have been a wholly different, difficult time.

We stopped to stay overnight in Townsend TN, on our Fall season trip.  The town goes "all out" in their autumn decorations of most all homes.  I thought it was so nicely done, and liked the many Halloween accents.  You might want to visit there during October.  It's a cute and quaint town to see.

The next day we went up into the Smokies a little way, and then into Cades Cove in NC, which is also interesting, if you enjoy historical areas, as I do.

I think Tennesseans are much like Texans, in many ways.  They seem like good, intelligent, friendly folks!
