Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Lady Lanajuju,

Hey, when you pass through here again, you can stay at my house in Knoxville, but you have to have your husband or somebody else with you since we Christians not only should avoid evil, but also the appearance of evil as you know. And you don't have to stay just the one night.

Richardson Roustabout,

Thanks, Patti, for the expository email about your personal life. I didn't mean to irritate you (but I often do that unwittingly AND VERY WELL), so I'm sorry for that. So you've been divorced twice. In my kidding around, I didn't mean to state OR imply that your not marriageable goods. All I was saying is that (I think it's the twice divorced, not twice married) stats say that the twice-divorced couple (with no other marriages) is most likely to divorce, so more than any other marriage scenario. So you already didn't meet that criterion since you've also been married a third time now and he was the love of your life - from your post, you complied with the oath "til death do us part" and you two were obviously tremendously happy until he passed away. And I'm happy to know that it sounds like you have another boyfriend; good folks like you deserve a partner if you want one.

Also I learned between my 2 marriages and the 4 women I was involved with then, that all the good women are pretty much married/taken. All 4 of those (ATTRACTIVE!) females were not only a wife you wouldn't want but also a girlfriend you wouldn't want either. Best bet is to find some woman (like you) who's been married (at least once happily) for a long time and her husband just died not that long ago. See - you've already proved that now with a current relationship that will also likely be a success - after all, we should be capable of learning from our mistakes, as you apparently had when you married #3.

While it does seem to me that it takes both spouses to fail in a divorce, often it does seem that one is WAY more the cause than the other. I believe (but I am a biased observer) that my 2 wives were that bad in their different ways, although I certainly bear the blame as well, just not to the extent that they do, in my mind anyway. And often you'll hear about a celebrity or someone else who was married a lot and FINALLY they find the spouse right for them. Mickey Rooney had 8 wives, but he was married to his widow longer than all the other 7 combined! I do think that through our mistakes, there's hope for the future in relationships even for somebody like I am.

Finally, I'm socially not too savvy so please keep that in mind. I actually do try to improve BUT IT'S SO HARD BEING ME!!! I always did like that excuse the best. So I'm self confessing here and whoever doesn't believe it, just go ask this forum's sponsor (or for that matter, Paula Whitfield! Sorry, Paula, I just had to include you in this one for the laughs)! hahahahahaha.....................

Richardson Roustabout (Patti Killen Reich, Sieg Heil! - oh sorry, got carried away.......:)

I forgot to mention this: Why do you think I still have feelings for my 2nd ex? I don't remember ever expressing that. Although, yes, I do have a VERY small amount of that. After the decades of the hoarding, I hate to admit it, but love really does erode over time in that awful environment. So I'm not sure you would call it love now. More likely it's lingering pity since it's almost impossible for hoarders to change their behavior AT ALL, at least in my view. All those trust & control issues............................

Men and women should be treated equitably, but ...

If I told my wife that I was going to Bob's house tonight to watch the game, I don't think there would be any reaction. But if I said I was going to Jessica's house tonight to watch the game, I'm pretty sure the reaction would be different. I'm pretty sure that she is not an outlier among women in that regard. (By the way, do you know how I can reach Jessica?)

Separately, maybe I already asked the following.

If a biological male is applying for life insurance, can he claim that he identifies as a female to get the lower rates that apply to females? Maybe men and women should have the same rates -- an increase for women and a decrease for men. That's what is done in life insurance within tax qualified retirement plans.

If a biological male reaches the age of 18, can he avoid registering for Selective Service by claiming that he identifies as a woman? See exhibit below. Sorry about the lame quality. Note that male illegal immigrants ages 18-25 need to register. Do you suppose they are getting draft cards as they cross the Rio Grande?

The confusion on how to answer the question of "Is a male filling out this form, or is a female filling out this form?" has gotten to the point of down right absurdity, don't you agree?

For years, as we progressed through life, we didn't even bat an eye at the question, when filling out copious amounts of official forms, but NOW, in this age of 'What shall we call this hesitation impasse predicament?' some people come to a haltingly awkward moment, of not knowing how to proceed with the usual, common questions at hand in everyday life.

Why have we allowed this nonsensical crap to stand and be burdensome to all?

If a person has hesitation on how to answer the usual questions that are asked in everyday life, then I say THAT PERSON is the one who needs to come up with an answer that he or she feels comfortable with printing.  Why does mass humanity have to deal with the confusion that one or two or three people might have?

The confused or annoyed person should be the one to solve the dilemma by which he/she feels burdened.

Mass humanity has no problem continuing to answer as usual in our lives.

Does that make sense to anyone other than me?

If a person has a severe sensitivity to bee stings, then it is up to THAT person to keep two epipens on his/her person at all times, in case of being stung.  We can't expect all people to have epipens in their pockets at all times.  It's just not reasonable.

While we still have :" Selective Service Registration" we have not had a draft since 1974, The registration is for the government to have he informtion in the event there is a need.  We have had an all volenteer military sine 1974.

Tommy,

I can't speak for your clients, of course, but my sense is that businesses are operating on the squeaky wheel theory.

I think very few people think that the entire vocabulary, not to mention millenia of beliefs, should be overthrown to accommodate such a small percentage of the population. That said, corporations are struggling with how to deal with the demands of the few. They generally select the path of least resistance -- more appropriately, the path of least pain. Example: they may have some consternation about supporting Black Lives Matter, but they know that they will catch more flak  for not supporting than for supporting.

If an information form asks for gender and includes male and female plus uncertain, prefer not to say, or something else, the vast, vast majority of people will just roll their eyes. The activists, whether they are trans or not, will raise hell if the corporation doesn't adopt and support their view.

Beyond this issue, I sense that some corporations are starting to realize that they are better off to suffer the slings and arrows in the short term than to suffer blowback in the long term. Witness Bud Light.

Several years ago a boycott was called on Chik-fil-A because of the founder's beliefs about homosexuality. Being somewhat onery and willing to take a counter-position, I decided that he should be able to have an opinion without being pilloried. So I decided to go to Chick-fil-A when the news broke. The store was packed. I don't mean that it was crowded. I mean there wasn't enough room to turn around. I'm sure they exceeded the fire marshall's rule.

I suspect that many corporations that were pressured by Black Lives Matter to boycott Georgia, and Atlanta in particular, because of Georgia's new voting laws regretted having done so. Coca Cola, based in Atlanta, was pressured to essentially support moving the baseball all star game out of Atlanta. The small businesses of Atlanta, including minority-owned businesses, were irreparably harmed.

As a riff on the movie Network, lots of people may not be mad as hell, but maybe they're not willing to take it anymore.

Citizenship test

I shudder to think that American citizens can't pass this quiz with 60% or better.

09/15/23 09:05 AM #28152

Sandra Spieker (Ringo)

David,

I took the test.  I passed!  Whew!

My mother had to take a citizenship test.  This was years before I was born.  She had to answer the questions before a Judge to get her citizenship.  He asked her what was the most important holiday in America.  Her answer was, Thanksgiving.  Seemed reasonable to her at the time.  He admonished her and corrected her, the 4th of July, of course.  She was angered at his response and told him that most people who live here couldn't pass the test.  Inf fact, she told him to stuff his citzenship.  He passed her, because he knew she was right.  Which brings me to the next point.  I was born aboard to American citizens, thus granting me citizenship.  I have the paperwork from the State Department to prove it.

My birthday was in April and my driver's license expired on my birthday.  So a month before I gathered what I thought was all of the paperwork I would need to get it renewed which included:  Social Security, Medicare, SD240 from the State Department (copy was 55 years old - my dad acquired it when I got my first passport in 1969 - before that I was on my mother's passport), my old drivers' license, my expired passport (did not renew due to the pandemic).  I made the appointment (at the time I had to wait two weeks so this was in March).

I got to the Tex Dept of Public Safety (in Mineral Wells), produced all of the paperwork and was promptly and I might add, rudely, turned down.  The SD240 did not have a "raised seal".  So I went without a driver's license for 5 months (Danny drove all that time but once, when he got dizzy and I took the wheel to the doctor's office).  I had to apply to the State Department to get a new SD240 (I got it 3 weeks after I got my renewed passport).  That cost $50.  I paid extra to get the passport renewed (it was easier and less paper work than getting a driver's license) $300.  Passport photo $50.

I have voted in many elections.  I pay and have paid lots of taxes.  I have driven without a speeding ticket my entire life (yes, not one).  I am insured, own property, have Medicare, Social Security etc.  To say I was burning mad at Texas State government is putting it mildly.  All of this to prevent illegals from driving, when citizen drive like madmen.  What a world.

David,   I got addicted to Yahoo Finance page years ago and still view holdings and individual stocks and their media related articles.

When you look up a stock, you can view several links and the data on that stock.

Most of the time you can scroll down and see there is an ESG rating (number value is assigned.)   The higher the number is related to what holdings or procedures they engage in are what, environmentally, socially, or otherwise acceptable level.

Some stocks don't have one...like Mercury Insurance.   I think because it is privately over 50% owned.  Or maybe it's just too small...

I looked up Prg, All, and EOG today for a comparison...

Now I have looked up how to explain ESG ratings and what levels are good and I am confused, so, I will shut down this post.

Lady Patricia,

I knew the left and right could get along!!! I'm an ex-liberal (in the 70's) & after Carter's administration (he's my 11th cousin, once removed - we and the musical Carter family all descend  from 3 Carter brother immigrants from England), I always voted for Republicans after that (only Dem before that - sorry, but that was a BAD idea) EXCEPT when I worked in IT at the city of Anchorage, Alaska, I voted for Dem Mark Begich for mayor 3 times over the Republican alternative since I knew first hand how bad he was as the existing mayor, and at least Begich was a small businessman in Anchorage. Although I would have voted against Begich later for US Senator.

If you haven't read much of the forums over the years, you may have to take me to task from time to time. I used to self identify as a moral cripple but after I was born again in 1989 (WAY too late) I gradually came to the conclusion that I was no longer that but rather still a social cripple so that's how I self identify these days.

Oh, and concerning the hoarding. BOY HAVE I LET THAT GO!!! YEE HAW!!!! Despite being alone all the time now (but for shopping & church & church groups) & lonely occasionally, I'm just SO HAPPY now just about every day!!! No more daily drama and unforced errors from avoidable crises!!! No more 5 dogs who are poorly house trained (thanks, love), an oven that the realtors remarked looked totally unused, etc., no more helping load, unload & cart around multiple kayaks, no more "$$%@$%#%@#%#$ and also #$#$@#$#!$" ad nauseum. Between my marriages I really wanted to be with another female; talk about a 180 degree turnaround! The Bible teaches "Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be released. Are you released from a wife? Do not seek a wife." (1 Corinthians 7:27 NASB). The honeymoon for the first marriage was over for me after about 6 months. The second one, after just 4 months. But I stayed with that psycho for over 25 years since, when I make a vow, I mean it, especially now that I'm a Christian. So I obeyed the first part of that Bible verse and now I'm DEFINITELY obeying the second part as well. I haven't been with a woman in 5 years now (my 2nd ex), physically or otherwise, and there are no reasonable prospects to reverse that currently either. Again I say YEE HAW!!!! Anyway I even got rid of old stuff of mine, in BOTH my major interstate moves I've made over the last 15 years, that I was carting around from residence to residence over the years for no earthly or heavenly reasons. My kids, or should I say great grandkids, will LOVE the organization and lack of clutter when they go through it (actually before too much more time passes............tee hee........:).........

Tommy,

Concerning Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, or any other group you're confronted by, you should ask that person "Who do you say that Jesus is?".

From what I know, Jehovah's Witnesses, if being honest, will say that Jesus did not exist in eternity past, as the Bible teaches (as did God the Father & God the Holy Spirit, so all 3 divine beings of the Godhead of the sole & Triune (three-in-one) God - no one can fully understand or explain that). The Jehovah's Witnesses will say that Jesus was a created being. They think that Jesus IS the "Son of God", but they don't think he was a DIVINE (so God too) "Son of God" but rather created at some point in history during eternity past (so go try to explain eternity past or eternity future as well).

Here is a list I created from 1 provided by a church here that is a good list of what being born again is all about:

God is 3 and God is 1, the Triune God, a mystery to be revealed later. There are no other gods EVER. God the Father is God, God the Son aka Jesus is God. Finally, God the Holy Spirit is also God.

Man is God's creation and is born prone to sin. God cannot and will not tolerate the presence of sin.

Sin is disobedience to God's laws, will and being. All men sin and none of us deserve a pleasant next life.

Jesus was born to take the blame for all man's sins ever at His propitiating death on the cross as an undeserving yet perfect sacrifice/martyr for us, thereby justifying our presence with God into eternity future in a PERFECT environment after His heart. He did the work and the believers get the benefit. Our good works won't by themselves do the job of salvation, only that perfect work of Jesus.

Bible is divinely inspired - God's Word is true.

"Heaven" and "hell" are realities that will be experienced eternally.

Satan, an (most?) outstanding angel, rebelled from God at some time and took a third of angels with him.

Spiritual warfare rages between God and Satan and God will win easily.

A literal new heaven and new earth will be created by God in the end. There will be no memory of this life.

Christ rules history - establishes His kingdom, is Lord of the universe and will be known by all at His return.

Christ's return will be literal and visible. We will all be able to see Him.

Everyone who ever lived will be judged. There is no reincarnation.

Prophecies were given to provide hope for believers.

So in conclusion, I believe that the Jehovah's Witnesses fail the test of being part of the true greater Christian community, at least as I see it. You can draw your own conclusions, as I'm sure you already have. But it all comes down to "who do you say that Jesus is". God the Father's plan is have His (Divine) Son be the center of everything, as He already is and always was.

BY THE WAY, A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THIS, BUT JESUS NEVER APOLOGIZED TO ANYBODY SINCE HE NEVER SINNED.

I sincerely apologize for speaking of your private life

Also a bit embarrassed that I exposed information of my private life like that.

Most persons do not want to know and understand why... as we must think of the whole of our community, and

and not of ourselves. Just rattled me to see something written that I have not accepted as and ending.

Nuff said!!

I was reflecting on the above.   I was trying to show you there is a rating scale for "listed" corporations/stocks for ESG.   That's their environment, social, and governance rating...

ESG ratings may be viewed by investors to decide whether to buy or sell...and of course other things...

If you look up a company on Yahoo finance and scroll down...on the lower right there may be their ESG rating.   Within that view there is a list of what is considered in giving an ESG rating.  It is interesting with respects of what you were discussing with Tommy within that post.

The Tuttle mind wanders much and then often posts without any sense of reference.   Just ask the Rafters Hi Y members... I have a loosey goosey mind sway.

As far as gender treatment in insurance goes, some state (Montana in 1985 was the first) have banned rating by gender.

I was just looking at amBest monthly magazine, and Equitable had their life insurance premium tables listed.  There were three genders.   Male, female, and unisex.   The unisex rate was in between the male and female.   It is not you can "declare" yourself unisex, it is because their rates (like all insurance) is regulated by state.   This is in a national magazine as an ad, so their listing of unisex is for the states, like Montana, who banned rating by gender.   Montana men get a better deal than the Montana women.

Although, in health insurance, women live longer, but also, therefore, are liable to have more claims as their longevity demands it.

Texas will probably be that last state to ban gender rating...
