Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

The Leftwing Dictator in the middle is either Tommy  or Steve Gardner.  The one on the right is  probably a three way tie of Keene, Tuttle or Barbee.

This picture is actually a photo taken in 1913 of the shortest, the tallest and the fattest man in Europe playing cards.

My internet was very spotty last night so I wasn't able to watch video from my 10 million streaming services. So, I decided to play religious DVDs. I have a couple of boxed sets of minor league videos of religious stories. One was created in the glorius year of 1951, and it was entitled Hill Number One: A Story of Faith and Inspiration.  I think it was a TV program produced by a Catholic organization since there was a mini-sermon at the end by a priest who talked about praying the Rosary. Anyway, It starts out in "current time" with a group of artillery soldiers resting during a battle situation in the Korean War. A priest in battle fatigues drives up in a jeep, and the conversation moves toward his Biblical discussion, which morphs into a movie about Jesus's last days and the subsequent days.

So, the point of this comment is this. Who do you suppose played the part of Apostle John?

James Dean.

Apparently it was his first small or big screen role other than in a Pepsi commercial.

David,

I think I have seen that.  Isn't it subtitled, Rabbi with a Cause?

Lance and Hull,

Texas Tech just suspended Coach Adams of the basketball team for quoting a Bible verse that had the mention of slavery in it because one kid complained that it made him uncomfortable.  I hope the stands are empty  and the other kids don't show up to play until these Godless infidels are removed from the administration.    Every Christian family at Tech should forbid their kid to participate and transfer out to another school at the earliest possible time.  Let them see how much money dries up that would have been donated to the school.

I will never support them again till they come out and say they are wrong.  Most of the slaves in the Middle East were not black and amounted to as much as 33%% of the inhabitants.

Not taking a stand on an issue this momentous is likely to condemn so called Christians for eternity.

Steve, do I nfer correctly that you are mad at Texas Tech??

---------------

A couple in their nineties  are both having problems remembering things. During a check-up, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember  ..

Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair 'Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?' he asks.

'Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?'

 'Sure.'

'Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?' she asks.

 'No, I can remember it.'

'Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so as not to forget it?'

He says, 'I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.'

'I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down?' she asks.

Irritated, he says, 'I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sake!'

Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, the old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs. She stares at the plate for a moment.

'Where's my toast?'

---------------------

An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen.

The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, '  Last night  we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great I would recommend it very highly.'

The other man said, 'What is the name of the restaurant?'

The first man thought and thought and finally said, 'What’s the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know, the one that's red and has thorns.'

'Do you mean a rose?'

'Yes, that's the one,' replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, 'Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?'

----------------------

Hospital regulations  require a wheel chair for patients being discharged. However, while working as a student nurse, I found one elderly gentleman already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet, who insisted he  didn't need my help to leave the hospital.

After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him to the elevator.

On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him.

'I don't know,' he said. 'She's still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown.'

---------------------------------

A senior citizen  said to his eighty-year old buddy:

'So I hear you're getting married?'

 'Yep!'

 'Do I know her?'

 'Nope!'

'This woman, is she good looking?'

 'Not really.'

 'Is she a good cook?'

'Nah, she can't cook too well.'

'Does she have lots of money?'

'Nope! Poor as a church mouse.'

'Well, then, is she good in bed?'

 'I don't know.'

’Why in the world do you want to marry her then?’

'Because she can still drive!'

--------------------------

A man was telling his neighbor,

'I just bought a new hearing aid. It cost me four thousand dollars, but it's state of the art. It's perfect.'

'Really,' answered the neighbor. 'What kind is it?'

'Twelve thirty.'

------------------

Moe, an 82 year-old man, went to the doctor to get a physical.

A few days later, the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman on his arm.

A couple of days later, the doctor spoke to Morris and said, 'You're really doing great, aren't you?'

Morris replied, 'Just doing what you said, Doc: 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.''

The doctor said, 'I didn't say that.. I said, 'You've got a heart murmur; be careful.'

-------------------

 One more........

A little old man shuffled slowly into an ice cream parlor and pulled himself slowly, painfully, up onto a stool... After catching his breath, he ordered a banana split.

The waitress asked kindly, 'Crushed nuts?'

 'No,' he replied, 'Arthritis.'

David,

One of my math profs told this:

Grandma and Grandpa rocking on their front porch.

Grandpa: Ma I'm proud of you

Grandma: What did you say?

Grandpa: I said I'm proud of you.

Grandma: I'm tired of you too.

For history buffs and fans of the movie "12 O'clock High"

True story of a Texas Medal of Honor reciepent

On this day in 1944, John Cary Morgan's plane was shot down over Berlin. He spent the remaining fourteen months of World War II as a German prisoner. The Texas native, born in Vernon in 1914, received his pilot's license at age twenty. In July 1943, Second Lieutenant Morgan was stationed in England and was flying as a copilot on a B-17 bomber when his aircraft was attacked by a large force of enemy fighters. The pilot received a severe head wound that left him crazed, and fell over the controls with the wheel in his arms. Morgan took the controls on his side and, despite the frantic struggles of the pilot, brought the aircraft under control and back into the formation. Because the interphone had been destroyed it was impossible to call for assistance. The waist and tail gunners were unconscious because of damage to the oxygen system in the rear compartment. Hearing no fire from their guns, Morgan concluded that they had bailed out. He faced the prospect of flying the plane to the target and back to England unassisted. For two hours he flew in formation, with one hand holding off the pilot and the other on the controls, until the navigator entered the pilot's compartment and relieved the situation. Morgan's heroic performance resulted in the successful completion of a vital bombing mission and the safe return of the aircraft and crew. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for "gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty." He continued to fly missions until he was shot down in 1944. His story was fictionalized in the novel Twelve O'Clock High! by Sy Bartlett (1948).

With the suspention of the Texas Tech coach for quoting a verse in the bible about slaves.  I wonder how the same people treat the facts the American Indians had slaves until around 1880 and the African tribes that had slaves and sold other tribal members into slavery?

Tommy:

Thanks for the background on your European adventures.  I would not have even considered doing what you did at that age.  I think I was programming for the actuarial department at Fidelity Union Life while you were traversing the Alps.  Wow.

Driving the Autobahn is an interesting experience.  I was always a passenger, but my eyes would get really big when we would hit 185 km/hr.  I always pictured the Autobahn as being six lanes wide across the entire countryside.  It surprised me that most of the mileage is two lane divided.  Even though slower cars stay on the right, if you are doing 185 and there is someone doing 150 passing someone, you really need to slow quickly.  In the end, the driving was a lot of speed up and go, followed by slow down quickly.

Anyway, thanks for the stories.

David,

A postman goes up to a door to get someone to sign for a package.  A gorgeous lady comes to the door wearing just a robe. When the postman hands the lady a pen to sign for the package she lets loose of the belt on the robe and it flaps open.  The postman can't see everything, but he can see a lot.  The lady sees the expression on the postman's face and then says, "I hear someone coming, you better step inside."   She pulls the postman inside and closes the door.

Next the lady drops her entire robe to the ground and is standing there facing the postman completely naked.  She has the perfect body. She has great boobs with just a small upward tilt on the nipples.  She has the perfect shape and a nicely trimmed bush.  She does not have a single blemish and her curves are in perfect proportion.  She looks at the postman and says, "What part of me truly amazes you?"

The postman looks at her and says, "Ma'm, its your ears."  The lady is flabbergasted.  She says, "With all this you are amazed with my ears?"

The postman says, "Yes Ma'm.  When you said you heard someone coming, that was me."

There's this from another source,

Deep thinking is something men do different than women, especially as it erupts into a conversation for women, but not very often men.   Among thoughts recently, a man was wondering whether getting kicked in the nuts is more or less painful than childbirth.   The consensus among women is or has always been that giving birth is the most painful human experience.   But, how do they know what getting kicked in the nuts feels like.   After some consideration, the man determined that getting your nuts kicked is certainly more painful.   The reasoning is after a year or so, the woman begins to think in some cases that she would like to have another child.   But, no rational man will ever relish or want to get kicked in the nuts again.  Of course, this was not my thought, because if it was, I would not have let it be public.

Another 'Homes miracle in the Super Bowl. So much for the vaunted Eagles defense. The Eagles actually got several breaks during the game, the biggest one at 9:30 of the 3rd Qtr, when ANOTHER fumble/return/TD was REVERSED for some inexplicable reason. And 3 minutes later, at 6:10, Goedert (Philly receiver) allegedly caught a sideline pass. It was anything but a clean catch, even the announcers were speachless... Yep, originally from KC, but I got to Texas as soon as I could...

Jan, I think your comment was rather harsh. I read Bob's comment differently. It seems to me that his comment was almost an advertisement (which I don't particularly like) for Tommy's forum, and he indicated that the COVID comments were interesting. I have not visited that forum since it was new, but perhaps I would check it out if I were interested in what posters there have to say about COVID.

Here are a few of my thoughts about COVID

  • COVID-19 came from the Wuhan lab, probably as a result of an accident.
  • The vast, vast majority of people who died from COVID were old and/or had complicating medical conditions.
  • Most people who were said to have died from COVID probably died primarily from something else, but with COVID.
  • I was double vaxxed and double boosted and still got a mild case of COVID
  • My wife who has infrequent bouts of asthma, was double vaxxed and double boosted and got a much worse case of COVID.
  • Those in authority acted in good faith, but in ignorance and with an overabundance of caution, in shutting down so many aspects of the economy, education, and interpersonal activity.
  • Children suffered far more in education setbacks and social development from governmental actions concerning COVID than from COVID itself.
  • The Biden administration will not allow Novak Djokovic, the best tennis player in the world, into this country because he has not been vaccinated, even though he has already had COVID. Yet the Biden administration has allowed millions of illegal aliens into the country without vaccinations.
  • The Biden administration is trying to use COVID as an excuse to relieve student loan debt, even though there is no shortage of employment opportunities. Neither were coolege students deprived finacially because of COVID, unlike businesses, which lost billions in revenue because of COVID restrictions.
  • The government, aided by major media outlets and social media, misled the public by silencing and/or attempting to humiliat and ostracize competent experts who disagreed with the Fauci line.
  • Florida, which opened up before almost all other states, performed in the middle among states in COVID mortality rates. Meanwhile, its children got back in school and the economy buzzed along.
  • The government, primarily because of Fauci, has undermined the public's faith in the government's ability to manage calamitous situations.
  • The governement, through the Congress, used COVID as an excuse to enact many very expensive programs, which resulted in a historically bad bout of inflation. ("Never let a crisis go to waste.")

Jan,

Of course, I am pro boob-flashing. Fortunately, there are ample opportunities to see boobs on the internet (although I don't receive as many naughty emails as in the past). Besides, I get to see boobs in person in my own home.

Sandra,

Jan,
I posted my comment to encourage people to see the other side's opinion. A lot of people, like you, read both. I asked on this forum what Libs think about Covid since the recent revelations about the "conspiracy theories" being likely true.

Tommy,
Sorry you don't like "woke." I didn't say "liberal" because you don't like that one either. "Marxian," "leftwing," etc., are just insulting. Is "progressive" okay?

03/08/23 10:34 AM #26991

Lowell Tuttle

David, all your covid comments come with caveats, some of which are

The lab originated the virus.   There are still arguments it was formed by natural process of animal to human.

People who died of Covid had other conditions.   Who above 50 doesn't have an "other" condition?

Double vaxxed but got it anyway.   Never was the vax supposed to eradicate the virus...just reduce it's effects and marginalize the spread.    I have had 4, Susie 4, and neither of us have had it...even though my son, (4) has had it twice.  Both Trump and Biden made counterproductive statements on this which could be used against them...no need to comment on that...

No vaccine?   How would we all be?

Children go home, to their parents and gran parents and are carriers...to themselves and teachers.

It is ironic that immigrants get in and Djokovic doesn't...just not such an irony of significance unless you are in political campaign mode.

Student loan debt relief desires arose out of economic issues, and now has become a pariah of sorts...whoever rules to stop the delay or relief will suffer, and that is about the same with any political social issue.   Just watch what happens to Desantis' popularity if he cuts medicare, medicaid, social security, or any other government dole outs...

Media and government misleading the public...?   yes, there is media misleading the public and there is government misleading or misdirection questions and issues.   It is what they do.   It is their job to respond to comments.   It depends on the listener's outlook as to whether it's misleading or not.   The truth is where you find it.   Comments here by you, Bob, or whoever, are probably about 70% relished, 30% regarded as underlywoke.

Actually, I like the term woke.   I like to believe I have always been woke.   Racism, environment, covid, social spending, taxation, religion, lgbgt.  I am sure I fall short of being woke enough (world view) and overly woke, Texas view.

Any comments about health care workers?   Their thoughts on caring for intubated ICU patients?   Dead doctors?   Dead nurses?  I am sure the internet or Fox has some healthcare workers opinions that support a viewpoint that America is overwoke (d.)

Do you consider Covid a calamitous situation?   Did you during?   Are you more or less satisfied if it is or was calamitous now?

You didn't mention masking.   Bob did.   Search anywhere for validation that masking is fruitless and there is a consensus it is useless.   A mixed result at best.  The lab experiments point to a lack of protection from most masks, however, the experiment methods are all suspect on this issue.   When I go to Captain Tom's seafood and oyster restaurant, I feel really nervous without a mask..   If I go to a movie theatre, I go to a matinee and I feel very sheepish if in a crowded facility.   I mask at the doctor's office, or lab, or dentist's waiting room...feel nervous there.   Have I swallowed a load of woke nervous fear, perhaps...can't get away from it.

I don't mask usually because I don't go anywhere but a grocery store and drive thru's.   My wokeness makes me feel guilty about that andI do think about it being a shortfall....

We had/have a big asian contingent of players at the golf club.   I was always amazed by their use of masks on the course...long before the covid...they also overly protected from the sun...Makes me feel stupid on reflection.

It's not sad that I have these opinions or concerns.   It is not sad that you and Bob have yours.

Remember, the opposite of woke is sleeping

Lowell, I agree with shu...  woke is  meaning to be "alert to racial prejudice and discrimination".

I won't be able to get out of this big font... but I am also glad at my age that I am alert and aware of my surroundings. I haven't fallen in the last six months and I am well nourished .. as they like to say at the doctor's office.

"Well nourished " - the nice way of saying fat. Cracks me up.

Anywho , who...

Ron k. , Kurt F. and I all lived in K.C. for a short time when we were young. I even saw the Beatles at the Municipal stadium , Sept. 17th , 1964. smiley I went to Belinder and Indian Hills Jr. high .. .would have gone to Shawnee Mission High school.

Remember , Sandahl Bergman? She played in Conan the Barbarian... she was in a few of my elementary classes. Couldn't act worth , you know what. Co -star with Arnold.

03/08/23 01:00 PM #26994

David Cordell

Tommy,

Were you trying to be funny, or were you simply disingenuous in quoting me while deleting words that completely change the meaning. Regardless --- inappropriate.

Jan,

Based on your definition of woke, I am woke. That said, I don't like the word woke in this context -- bad grammar. How about awakened, or simply awake? I have been awakened. I am awake.

In general, I believe as Justice Roberts apparently does: "The way to stop discrimination is to stop discriminating."

I don't believe in so-called equity if that means equal outcomes for all. That is just a form of socialism..

Should equal inputs garner equal outcomes? Only if there is no input for luck.

Lowell,

We're just going to have to agree to disagree. There have been studies showing the difference between how conservatives and liberals view governmental constraints regarding COVID.
