The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

There have been 27 completed seasons (with the upcoming Super Bowl game finishing off the 27th one), 1996-2022 since the Cowboys last appeared in an NFC championship game. Here are the NFC championship game participants in those 27 seasons:

Team                   Appearances       Wins       Super Bowl Wins

Green Bay                   8                    3                     2

Philadelphia                 7                   3                     1    (maybe 2 next week?)

San Francisco             7                   2                      0

Rams (St. Lo. & LA)    4                   4                      2

Carolina                      4                   2                      0

Atlanta                        4                   2                      0

Minnesota                   4                  0                       0

New York Giants        3                   3                       2

Seattle                        3                  3                       1

Tampa Bay                 3                   2                       2

New Orleans              3                   1                       1

Arizona                       2                   1                       0

Chicago                      2                   1                       0                         Playoffs Record 1996-2022

Dallas                         0                   0                       0                                   5-12

Washington                0                   0                       0                                    2-5

Detroit                        0                   0                       0                                    0-5

So the Cowboys are the 14th best NFC team out of 16 (or 3rd worst) in terms of overall success in the NFC for those 27 seasons. I've always thought of Washington's owner Daniel Snyder as being a Jerry-Jones wannabe, which is reflected in these stats - he's EVEN WORSE than faux-GM Jerry!!!! But consider the WORST team - the Detroit Lions. Since they last won the NFL championship following the 1957 season (they won 3 NFL championships in the 1950's), if you ignore their 3 "Playoff Bowl" victories that the Lions posted in 1960-1962, which pitted the two 2nd-place teams from each NFL conference against each other, then the ONLY playoff victory for Detroit since the 1957 season was their win against the Cowboys following the 1991 season - also the ONLY playoff loss in head coach Jimmy Johnson's Cowboy tenure - he was 7-1  in 1991-93. Hence the justifiable frustration for we Cowboys fans concerning the now-perpetual mediocrity (or worse, as in FAILURE) of GM Jerry Jones's job performance. Plus even if the Eagles win the Super Bowl, that's only 12 NFC victories out of the last 27 seasons - so we're the 3rd worst team in the LESSER conference as well!

Victor Davis Hanson | Jan 05, 2023

Did someone or something seize control of the United States?

What happened to the U.S. border? Where did it go? Who erased it? Why and how did 5 million people enter our country illegally? Did Congress secretly repeal our immigration laws? Did President Joe Biden issue an executive order allowing foreign nationals to walk across the border and reside in the United States as they pleased?

Since when did money not have to be paid back? Who insisted that the more dollars the federal government printed, the more prosperity would follow? When did America embrace zero interest? Why do we believe $30 trillion in debt is no big deal?

When did clean-burning, cheap, and abundant natural gas become the equivalent of dirty coal? How did prized natural gas that had granted America's wishes of energy self-sufficiency, reduced pollution, and inexpensive electricity become almost overnight a pariah fuel whose extraction was a war against nature? Which lawmakers, which laws, and which votes of the people declared natural gas development and pipelines near criminal?

Was it not against federal law to swarm the homes of Supreme Court justices, to picket and to intimidate their households in efforts to affect their rulings? How then with impunity did bullies surround the homes of Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Samuel Alito, Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, John Roberts, and Clarence Thomas - furious over a court decision on abortion? How could these mobs so easily throng our justices' homes, with placards declaring "Off with their d--s"?

Since when did Americans create a government Ministry of Truth? And on whose orders did the FBI contract private news organizations to censor stories it did not like and writers whom it feared?

How did we wake up one morning to new customs of impeaching a president over a phone call? Of the speaker of the House tearing up the State of the Union address on national television? Of barring congressional members from serving on their assigned congressional committees?

When did we assume the FBI had the right to subvert the campaign of a candidate it disliked? Was it legal suddenly for one presidential candidate to hire a foreign ex-spy to subvert the campaign of her rival?

Was some state or federal law passed that allowed biological males to compete in female sports? Did Congress enact such a law? Did the Supreme Court guarantee that biological male students could shower in gym locker rooms with biological women? Were women ever asked to redefine the very sports they had championed?

When did the government pass a law depriving Americans of their freedom during a pandemic? In America can health officials simply cancel rental contracts or declare loan payments in suspension? How could it become illegal for mom-and-pop stores to sell flowers or shoes during quarantine but not so for Walmart or Target?

Since when did the people decide that 70 percent of voters would not cast their ballots on Election Day? Was this revolutionary change the subject of a national debate, a heated congressional session, or the votes of dozens of state legislatures?

What happened to Election Night returns? Did the fact that Americans created more electronic ballots and computerized tallies make it take so much longer to tabulate the votes?

When did the nation abruptly decide that theft is not a crime, and assault is not a felony? How can thieves walk out with bags of stolen goods, without the wrath of angry shoppers, much less fear of the law?

Was there ever a national debate about the terrifying flight from Afghanistan? Who planned it and why?

What happened to the once-trusted FBI? Why almost overnight did its directors decide to mislead Congress, to deceive judges with concocted tales from fake dossiers and with doctored writs? Did Congress pass a law that our federal leaders in the FBI or CIA could lie with impunity under oath?

Who redefined our military and with whose consent? Who proclaimed that our chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff could call his Chinese Communist counterpart to warn him that America's president was supposedly unstable? Was it always true that retired generals routinely labeled their commander-in-chief as a near Nazi, a Mussolini, an adherent of the tools of Auschwitz?

Were Americans ever asked whether their universities could discriminate against their sons and daughters based on their race? How did it become physically dangerous to speak the truth on campus? Whose idea was it to reboot racial segregation and bias as "theme houses," "safe spaces," and "diversity"? How did that happen in America?

How did a virus cancel the Constitution? Did the lockdowns rob us of our sanity? Or was it the woke hysteria that ignited our collective madness?

We are beginning to wake up from a nightmare of a country we no longer recognize, and from a coup, we never knew.

Here's a great video on how ridiculous the unthinking, illogical, relentlessly uncompromising electric-car foolishishness is from the left:

Like these 2 geniuses said:

Mark Twain: "Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul."

Forrest Gump: "Stupid is as stupid does".

David C,

Thanks for the compliment, but you said "bad way to start the weekend" - hey, that's why Chief Pay It Forward Almost Forever Steve called me Chief Agonizer - hahahahahaha!!!!

Chief Identified

And that Victor Davis Hanson is in the top 5 of American political thinkers working today - likely top 3 too, maybe Numero Uno? That pathetically platitudinous Princeton clodpoll Paul Krugman obviously is bottom 5.

Plus I LOVE the newest name for the mother of all scammers, Sam Bankman Fried by whomever on FNC came up with it: Scam Bankrupt Fraud - BRILLIANT!!! Of course, similarly I LOVE how Jesse Watters (no known relation to Maxine) now almost always doesn't call her Hillary but rather refers to her with the one-word  nickname "Corrupt", as in "When Corrupt does this, or when Corrupt said that............."

These words do not exist:

alright

So why do I keep hearing them or seeing them spelled out in TV closed captioning?

It looks like Biden intends to run again. Good news for him: the Justice Department has a policy of not indicting a sitting president. Maybe that's his plan -- die in office so he'll never be indicted.

Remember hockey great Wayne Gretzky's statement? "I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been."

Democrats: This quotation applies to Biden. Consider where THAT hockey puck (thanks Don Rickles) will be (mentally) in six years, not where he has been. And the latter has been bad enough. Do you really want an 86-year-old man to be president -- an 86-year-old who was never the sharpest knife in the drawer?

Questions:

Is it possible to bring the Chinese spy balloon down without blowing it up? How?

Can we shoot a hole in it that would cause it to lose altitude, then when it gets low enough, have big helicopters grab it?

Is it filled with helium (non-flammable) or maybe hydrogen? (Think, the Hindenburg explosion.)

02/04/23 10:54 AM #26808

Wayne Gary

David,

The Air Force could punch holes in the balloon with the cannons on either the F22 or F35.  Both have a stated service ceiling of 65,000 ft.  The reported height to the balloon is 60,000 ft.  If they were to use the cannon to punch holes it would make a slow descent.

The F15 and F16 both have a 60,000 ft service ceiling.

All have 20mm vulcan cannons.

02/04/23 02:53 PM #26809

David Cordell

So the 400 sq mile debris field was just BS.

They are saying that Biden wanted to shoot down the balloon, but the Pentagon advised against it. Not credible. He was the dissenter on the BIn Laden mission.

ADDITION:

So, they finally shot down the balloon after it passed across the whole continent.

I suggest a replacement for the phrase "closing the barn door after the horse has bolted" with "It's like shooting down a spy balloon after it has collected all the data."

02/05/23 12:25 PM #26810

Jerry May

Yeah David, agreed! A long time military friend of mine said "They aren't going to find anything useful. "All the the data/info collected is back in China!" And suggested there was a wide expanse in Montana where the timing

would have worked perfectly. Hell, even the Governor was on television saying "has anyone ever seen Eastern Montana?" And my friend also said, "Even there would have compromised sensitive sites! The US knew about that ballon as soon as it crossed our airspace; and should have been shot down!"

And I offered; "The high-ranking military officer stating on television that, "We are of course concerned about the debri-field which could endanger our citizens" was an insult in a way, given the fact that our jets were about to shoot down one of our own airliners (93) with American passengers on board during 911! Instead, our brave souls forced it down! (I don't think they were trying find a good safe spot to crash!)

I speculated with Ellen, that an "arrangement" was made to allow them to shoot all the pictures they needed as it traversed the entire country; but that to "save face" POTUS would be enabled to give the order to destroy it, and also announce to the American public it was "taken down" (one of the very few times I've observed him walking UP to the cameras, instead of angling away from them!"

No, to this observer.......none of these actions pass the "sniff" test!!

David C & Jerry,

YEAH. VERY FISHY about this Chinese balloon. If you assume that the Biden Family criminal syndicate (VERY safe assumption - they all belong in prison for selling out our country) was obviously pedding influence with Ukraine, Russia, Red China, Kazahkstan, etc., as FNC has faithfully pointed out the last few years, it becomes obvious why Joe Biden has soft-pedaled any of his positions/responses to questions about China for so many years now. Joe has repeatedly described Red China as some kind of good-natured, friendly competitors rather than the mortal enemy those Communists are to us (and to Taiwan and everybody else for that matter).

The Biden administration, as evident in almost ALL statements and other communications emanating from them, is simply full of liars, starting at the top, so they're constantly lying to the American public, i.e., just the opposite of their early pronouncements of being such a transparent administration.

Similarly, Obama said after he left office (or shortly before - I can't remember) that his administration was so free of any scandals, another BIG lie, as pointed out so often on FNC.

In conclusion, with these last 2 Dem administrations, up is down, east is west & vice versa, and the truth is lies or "Russian disinformation", and the real lies have become the "truth" that they constantly and dishonestly try to sell to the public, with the conscious collusion of their partners, namely, the corrupt legacy media, big tech & pharma, the high levels of MANY executive department entities (e.g. FBI, DOJ, DHS, etc.; i.e., deep staters like Merrick Garland, Christopher Wray, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, Andrew McCabe, James Comey, James Clapper, Alejandro Mayorkas, etc.), academia, Hollywood, the Dem Party in Congress (especially Swalwell, Schiff, Schumer, Pelosi, etc.), et al ad nauseum. The key word in my mind concerning all this evil behavior would be CORRUPTION aka, concerning our government, high crimes & misdemeanors (mostly felonies however). Not only can you just NEVER trust anything coming out of their mouths, but also it's very safe to assume the exact opposite of everything they're communicating.

Speaking of government corruption, here are my 2 favorite scenes (the 2nd one is the last scene in the movie) from "Burn After Reading", a Coen Brothers flick - J.K. Simmons is great here as the boss who's trying to make sure his department's dirt is swept under the rug & KEPT THERE:

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

I really get a kick out of watching J.K. Simmons' characters.   He is such a good actor.  We recently watched WHIPLASH with him as one of the main characters, and thoroughly enjoyed his intense performance.  I recommend the film to all of you.  The young drummer was equally good!  Great movie!  Excellent music too!

David C:

the news I saw said that Biden wanted to shoot it down over a week ago but the Pentagon told him there would be too much possible damage from it when it came down

02/06/23 07:36 AM #26815

Is there some kind of treaty which allows countries to fly spy sattelites over other countries like that balloon flew over us?

Is shooting down a satellite over your own air space a different scenario?

We sell 200 billion in exports to China and they sell 600 billion in exports to us.   The two economic giants have more financial total stake than any other two countries.

The frenzy of this issue, which might be over sensitizing us (and them) could ruin a lot of economic benefit both cultures enjoy.

And now the backlash...I am just thinking, sorry

02/06/23 07:37 AM #26816

David W.

I would call it a CBA. Cover Biden's Ass statement. The Air Force could have used the 20mm cannon on the F22 to punch holes in the balloon and have it slowly desend to the ground. Instead they waited until it was at sea to use a missle that distroyed the balloon and it came salmost straight down.

02/06/23 08:39 AM #26817

Steve Keene

David W. and Wayne,

Now the NSA comes out and says there were several balloon surveillance events during the last administration's term.  I have never seen such foreboding columny by one party and its media, government and big tech allies against the other opposing party.  It is clear evidence that this is the most evil and ruthless group to ever wield power in this country.

From
Babylon bee

PUNXSUTAWNEY, PA — Locals and Groundhog Day enthusiasts alike were caught off-guard today, as the eponymous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, emerged from his burrow and declared to the crowd gathered at Gobbler's Knob that there was a cache of documents marked "Classified" in his underground home.

"I know you're all here waiting to find out if I saw my shadow and if there will be six more weeks of winter and all that stuff," Phil said, "but I thought you all might want to know that there's a big stack of files and folders down there stamped ‘Classified' and ‘Top Secret' in red ink. Not sure where they came from. These are probably important, right?"

DOJ officials scrambled to retrieve the documents from Phil's burrow as word began to spread among the assembled media that yet another hidden stash of Joe Biden's classified documents had been discovered. The White House quickly issued a statement on the incident. "These documents do, in fact, belong to the President," Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. "The documents were, indeed, temporarily stuffed into the burrow of one Punxsutawney Phil by an unknown person. The documents, are, however, highly classified, therefore I am not at liberty to discuss the situation any further."

At publishing time, Punxsutawney Phil was reportedly planning to give an exclusive interview to Tucker Carlson this evening about overhearing people mentioning "the Ukraine deal" and "Hunter's laptop" last fall as they were stuffing the documents into his burrow, but he was quickly subdued, muzzled, and forcefully escorted away by federal agents for waterboarding at an undisclosed government location.

Jim in answer to your post, all I can quote is Isaih 5:20 "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" In the end times, which I believe we are in, men will be lovers of themselves and turn from the saving grace of God Almighty and His only begotten Son Jesus Christ and shall reap the benefits(which there are none) of their actions.

So here are the AFC championship game stats 1996-2022.

There have been 27 completed seasons (with the upcoming Super Bowl game finishing off the 27th one), 1996-2022 since the Cowboys last appeared in an NFC championship game

Team                   Appearances       Wins       Super Bowl Wins

New England               14                 10                   6

Pittsburgh                    7                   3                    2

Denver                        5                   4                    3

Kansas City                  5                   3                    1     (maybe 2 next week?)

Baltimore                    4                    2                    2

Indianapolis                4                    2                    1

Tennessee                   3                    1                   0

Jacksonsville               3                    0                   0

New York Jets             3                    0                   0

Cincinnati                   2                    1                   0

Oakland/LA/Las Vegas 2                    1                   0

Buffalo                       1                    0                   0

San Diego/LA             1                    0                   0      Playoffs Record 1996-2022

Houston Texans          0                    0                   0            4-6 (1st season 2002)

Miami                        0                    0                   0            3-8

new Cleveland Browns 0                   0                   0            1-2 (1st season 1999)

So the Cowboys, of the 6 total NFL teams with no conference game championship appearances since the beginning of the 1996 season, are then the 6th worst team out of the 32 franchises; i.e., the best playoff-games record of the 6 WORST. In a word, Jerry Jones: PATHETIC!!!
