In Memoriam

Martha McCord (Pennington)

The following information about Martha was provided by Pat Gantt Munson, who received it from Martha's sister, Helen Curry.

Martha Jeanette McCord Pennington, age 63 of Richardson, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, July 4, 2014 at Methodist Richardson Medical Center.

Martha was born on January 25, 1951, the second daughter of William Charles and Margaret Ann (Lancaster) McCord.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Jessica Leigh (Pennington) Witcher, and son-in-law, James Witcher of Frisco, TX and three granddaughters, London, 5 years, Harper, 3 years, and Scarlett 20 months, six sisters, four brothers, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  Martha was a precious daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father.

Martha graduated from Richardson High School in 1969 where she was an officer on the Eaglette Drill Team.  She graduated with honors from Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX.   Martha was a dedicated teacher, sharing her love and knowledge of English and History at Spence Middle School in Dallas, TX, for 18 years.    Martha considered her teaching both a profession and a ministry.  She loved her students.

Martha had many interests in life, among them painting, reading, Precept Bible Study, ballet, gymnastics, puzzles, word searches and almost any game. Martha was a faithful member of Hunters Glen Baptist Church in Plano, TX.

Martha is already greatly missed.  We are all happier for having known her.

I did not know Martha very well, however, I did take dance lessons with her, through Buster Brown's Dance Studio in Richardson.  We both took ballet together.  I remember she was a dedicated student and quite frankly, better at ballet than I was.  There is something about good dancers that is more than technique or strength, which are both essential to have in order to dance well.  That something is the pure joy of the dance.  I think Martha had that quality, it was evident in her face when she danced.  My mother told me once, toward the end of may dance career, that it showed in my face how hard it was to do ballet.  I suppose my toes were to the point of breaking and the pain showed through.  Martha, however, never showed any pain on her face.  She was serene.  It was a joy to watch her.  Rest in peace Martha, you are missed.

I didn't know Martha that well, but we reconnected at the 10th reunuon. We found out that within a few months of each other we both had brain tumors. There's something about having the same problems that brings you closer. She will be missed. Sabra Maxwell

As many of you know my wife, Minta has had two procedures to remove a brain tumor in 2001 and 2011. Every six months she has an MRI to measure the growth. The last MRI in Febuary showed no measurable growth. She is still working as an accountant. Thanks to everyone for their concern and best wishes.
