Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

In Shanghai, people with pets are being instructed to kill their pets, since pets can get the virus.  I'll bet that most of those people are NOT killing their pets, but are hiding them or releasing them out in the countryside, hoping to retrieve them in a short time, when the coast is clear.

How much insanity can a person take?

I think that the illegals arriving near the capitol in DC is hilarious!   Hope it continues unabatedly!

Most importantly:

Easter isn't about the bunny,

It's about The Lamb.

Technically, those are migrants, not illegal aliens.   They arrived at the border, applied for asylum, and were shipped to DC by bus.   Legal aliens until they break the immigration laws.

Jean, David

Jean you talked about the difference the math classes in the math dept and engr dept.

Here is what learned at A&M

The difference between an engineer and a mathematician

You stand them against the wall in a room and tell them to cross the room to the other wall. Each time they move they can move 1/2 the distance from where the are to the wall. the engineer will take about 4 moves and says he is there.  The mathematician will never make it to the other wall because no matter how small the distance he can always divide it in half.

Lowell,

Perhaps you are correct, but I strongly suspect that the vast, vast majority are lying so they can stay. It isn't about political oppression. If it were, those from Central America could simply stay in Mexico, where they also share a language.  It is about economic opportunity. Not to mention drug smuggling. Besides, there are thousands who simply come in without being detected.

IN the 60's Hamilton Park had the highest percentage of adults wih Bachlors,Masters and PHDs of any neughborhood in Dallas.  The neighborhood was about the best place foe college educated blacks. There was a a neighborhood of about 4 blocks off Pteson between Churchill Way and Valley View ( now LBJ) where black MDs and attourneys lived.

Migrants?

They are lying opportunists taking advantage of a weak US president who should have known better than to throw the door open in a foolish gesture, but was incapable of making a proper call, due to poor judgment and radicals nipping at his heels. The Progressives who now control the Democrat Party hounded him to meet their elitist, political demands, to further their selfishness and madness toward tyrannical power.

Aliens or immigrants need to obey a country's laws, and they need to truthfully ask for entry rather than lie that they are in danger.  These liars are looking for jobs, not for political asylum, as their lives are not in jeapardy, just as they realize those who coached them, had ulterior motives to 'use them.'  That is why the manipulated hoards IGNORE their court dates and keep their heads down from the authorities seeking to find them.  The Democrats purposely allow them to disappear into the American masses, figuring it will ultimately keep them (the Democrats) in office forever, due to votes cast by the coached, as payback.

Let us not sugarcoat the deviousness at play.  The Democrat machine is at work here, gaming the system, and teaching the meagerly educated agrarians how to be masters at the cheating process.  Way to go, you graduates of great American universities!  Such amazing Patriots to behold!

Our Founders are rolling in their graves with disgust.

Today is the 75th anniversary of the day when Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball. Of course, he was the black person who played in the game, but most of the credit, in my humble opinion, should go to the man who made it happen -- Brooklyn Dodgers general manager (and 25% owner) Branch Rickey.

It seems to me that Robinson's great accomplishment is not breaking the color barrier, which took less than an inning. Rather it is his enduring the abuse that he had to take in every ballpark and in every city. Of course, his stats are especially noteworthy, including his lifetime .313  batting average, Rookie of the Year, batting title, and MVP award.

Small point that I just learned -- before Robinson's first professional baseball game with the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro League, he taught PE and coached basketball at Samuel Huston College, an all-black school that is now Huston-Tillotson University. It was the first college in Austin, pre-dating UT by eight years.

It is also the 157th anniversary of the death of Abraham Lincoln, who was shot the previous night. Last night we watched most of a Smithsonian Channel special on the last day of Lincoln. It was very good.

One wonders what would have happened to race relations if Lincoln had completed the almost four years remaining in his second term.

David,

I watched "King Richard" last night on HBO.  It tells the story of Venus and Serena Williams' father who took abuse from black men, white men and police officers in stride while raising his daughters the way he believed they should be raised, emphasizing scholarship, integrity and faith.  He was beaten and disparaged by everyone for being different and too strict.  He never fought back, knowing that he had a more important goal of raising the girls to be champions while remaining humble in every aspect of their life.

How ironic that Will Smith who played Richard in the movie to critical aclaim, could not bear to take one small insult in jest from a comedian without losing his cool and slapping him onstage at the Academy Awards.  Will Smith's actions did more to stereotype black men as angry and resentful in one careless moment than all the good qualities of Richard's patience and forebearance did to remove that stereotype over a 50 year period.

Wayne,

Your experience is only with A & M engineers, not Tech engineers.  A & M engineers don't know the half of it.

P.S.:  Thanks for the thought of sending me the card.  I am more of a Passover card guy, though.

Jean.

About four years ago I took my daughter Makenzie to Boston.  We saw the Blue Man Group, the Red Sox, stayed at the Plaza and the Seaport, toured the North Church Italian neighborhood, saw Lexington and Concord, the U. S Constitution sailing ship, Plymouth Rock, Salem, Provencetown, Kinebunkport, the Swan Boats, ate Lobster Rolls on the pier, Whale watched, Segway toured the the Fanuel Hall area, drank at Cheers.

The Blue Man Group and the street performers near Fanuel Hall were the highlight of our trip.

Lowell, Bob D.

I will be going to the NRA convention in the Geo. R Brown Convention Center.  The parking is very expensive in downtown Houston. Is there a convient parking and public transportation? Also would you like to go.  I will be coming down on May 27 and driving home on Sat.

There is rail down main st and a fork over to the convention center.   You can park at or near South by the Astrodome area or you can park on the North side...I forget if it goes further North than Airline.   Bob D would know better.   I live way North, as does Bob now.   Our rail doesn't out to the burbs like Dallas'  because we don't have organized 'burbs...just unincorporated areas and the only one organized is The Woodlands.

You might check with some type of livery service from the airport.   Either IAH or Hobby.   I don't know my schedule at present for Memorial Day weekend.

Is it a gun show or the NRA meetiing?

Those parking rates are outrageous.   When I go to the Astros or to Rockets games, I park on the street or in lots around the Center.   I am not sure about the Astros schedule...Astros are out of town.

$32.00 for four hours?

Most we pay for an Astors game nearby parking lot is 20.00 for the game.   How many go to this convention in one day/night.   Geo R Brown doesn't hold more than about 20,000 max...so I feel sure you can get a space for the evening for 20.00 or so within 1/2 mile of downtown...

Greenstreet shopping office center is at 1201 Fannin.  It's a mini mall.. They have the Dualing Piano's bar there as well as McCormick and Schmidt's.   Check on their parking...It's less than a mile from Convention Center.

You are welcome to park at my house.   I can drive you into town and you can Uber from near town depending on what time you want to go and then the only problem would be getting home.

I think this forum website would explode if I went to an NRA convention.

Fleming lives closer in.

There's also Ron Forrest.

Tom Wells/Reuten lives in the Heights.   Guessing ok to park in front of his house...

You could probably street park in my brother in law's neighborhood in the Heights and Uber from there.   It's about 4-5 miles from there to George R Brown.

Clay St. garage....see the NRA show website.   Click on one of the P's

It says their 10.00 for 24hours...

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said, “We are not sending President Biden to Ukraine,” during an interview.

Doesn't that sound like Biden doesn't make his own decisions, except when he veers off-script? Examples of veering: declaring that Russia is committing genocide in Ukraine and declaring that Putin should be removed from power. I happen to agree with both of those comments, but my wife doesn't need to clean up after me.

Last night we watched the part of the miniseries The Bible that relates to Jesus's life. Very good. The Passion part was not quite as gruesome as in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, but it was pretty darn graphic. Passion of the Christ and Jesus of Nazareth are available for free with Amazon Prime.

Lowell,

Thanks for the info.  I will be driving down arriving around 1:00 and staying in the La Quinta Galleria.

Their is a large show with all sorts of shooting ad hunting info.  No gun sales.  You can always wear a mask.  There are plenty of Dems thart own guns.

Wayne,

You are right.  That always came in handy when the wife asked if I was raised in a barn.

Parking at the George R. Brown Center is simple.  From the Convention Center Front turn right on Plaza de the Americas Drive.  Go about a quarter mile till the road dead ends.  Turn left and park at the Car Wash.  Parking is $20.  Walk across the street to the Entrance to the official Convention Parking.  Climb on their free schuttle bus and it takes you back to the entrance.  The Car Wash has parking in the back that can accomodate big pickups and suburbans and it is manned full time during the events so you won't get broken into.

This morning I have been listening to 60's Gold on Sirius-XM, and Gary Puckett (of the Union Gap, not of our RHS class) is acting as deejay. Here's a rock music fact that he mentioned that I found hard to believe until I checked it out on Wikipedia (so it must be true!). Two people who performed at various times in the 60s as guitarists with Joey Dee and the Starlighters (Peppermint Twist) were Joe Pesci, and, wait for it, Jimi Hendrix.

La Quinta at 1625 West Loop.   That puts you right in the middle of the worst traffic there is in the State of Texas on Friday before Memorial Day...  Bus servies is about 3.00 and takes 45 minutes to Geo R Brown.   I have never taken a Houston Metro Bus.   They have been fightin about a rail connection to Richmond Ave out to Gessner or at least Westpark curve for about 20 years.   It'll never happen.
