Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Yes.   We woke up in Houston this morning, not to Purple Haze, but to Hull Haze.  Smoke smell and fog/hase.  Quickly blew away...

One of my favorite movies. And this scene was something for late 50's!

Jerry,

Yeah, North by Northwest is a good one. First time I saw Martin Landau. Gotta love the Mount Rushmore scene and the final few frames -- train entering a tunnel.

Hitchcock liked icy blondes. Eva Marie Saint in NXNW. Kim Novak in Vertigo. Tippi Hedren in The Birds. Janet Leigh in Psycho. And Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief, Dial M for Murder, and Rear Window. I've never seen a more beautiful woman than Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief when she planted a kiss on Cary Grant's cheek before she entered her hotel room.

Yeah Grace Kelly was beautiful! My Dads favorite. Probably mine as well.

Still, I think Kim Novak was stunning in that grey suit in Vertigo! Just as Cary Grant

was "dashing" in the grey suit here.

One of my favorite lines was when he (Cary Grant) was wearing sunglasses in the train-station

getting tickets. The clerk asked why he was wearing sunglasses?(his semi-disguise) to which he said:

"My eyes are sensitive to questions!"

I think I have mentioned this before that this is my favorite Cary Grant line, although I'm not sure he really said it. Try to repeat it in your best Cary Grant voice.

"They say that money talks. Well, all it ever said to me is, 'Good bye.'"

Here is the TCM piece on Cary Grant, narrated by Michael Caine.

Ok, I will chime in...Cary Grant - AKA, Archibald Leach.....I loved his acting, looks and especially his sense of comedy!  What a great actor he was!  One of kind.

As for women in acting whom I admire, top of the list, hands down- Audrey Hepburn.  She was beautiful, talented, comedic, and icing on the cake, a humanitarian with UNICEF.  Naturally, she was Dutch to boot, something I personally feel makes her even more special, since my family is from Holland.  My father cried when she died.  He loved her too.

Eded to add this:

What we are watching lately on TV to cut the bordem of staying home with Granny so much:

The Mandalorin - I like Star Wars, but this is amazing!  Best SciFi series ever IMHO.

Jane The Virgin - Soap Opera tis true, but so funny!

Old reruns of 30 Rock.  We missed this probably because we were involved with other stuff, so we are seeing them for the first time.  Favorite character - the doctor!  He should have had his own show!

Welcome To Earth - Will Smith does some crazy adventures here and it is a great take of nature documentaries that really keep you watching.

YouTube of Beau of the 5th Column -  This guy tells is straight, but beware it is political. - That and Your Daily Dose of Internet.  I wonder what that guy narrating looks like?

Just finished most recent season of Marvelou Mrs. Maisel (our favorite.)   Watching Outlander....The Gilded Age...and Winning Time (LA Lakers) from when Majic arrived...1977...

We are finishing up season four of Good Girls, which we sort of like.   A female knock off of Breaking Bad...has some pretty good character acting including Christina Hendricks (the red head from Mad Men.)

Binge watched Vikings latest season...We are TV junkies.

I watch a lot of shows on Netflix, but eventually tire of the plots.  Instead I find myself watching Westerns from my youth.

Does anyone remember Yancey Derringer?  Only ran one season in 1958, but it had pretty good stories.  I tried watching Wyatt Earp, but only got through part of the first season.  It was very not very subtle in trying to tell a story with morals.  I always enjoy the Rifleman.  And I'm now watching Maverick in its first season.  I'd love to watch Have Gun, Will Travel, but only find it on You Tube. Frankly, I think what appeals to me in most of these shows is good prevailing over evil (ie., the good guys win).  In so many shows today, there is a theme of moral ambivalence.

I watch an hour or so TV a night, so all of these shows fit in that window.

For me Perry Mason each week night at 10:30 on Rewind TV. I love the fashions of the late 50's episodes, the autos, the indoor settings like Perry's office artwork and the occasional view of his apartment. Of course his genius in determining the murderer and forcing the courtroom confession never disappoints.

Haven't seen Mandalorian. We like Vera, Death in Paradise, Father Brown, and various Agatha Christi shows on Britbox. My Life is Murder and Republic of Doyle on Acorn. Liked Ted Lasso on Apple + when it was funny. Two musicals worth seeing: Hamilton on Disney+ and Come from Away on Apple +.

I have all the Harry Potters on DVD but haven't seen any of them.

Hollis:

Yes, I should have included Perry Mason..  It is on the FETV channel multiple times during the day and evening.

The winds are from the SSE and blowing hard here.  There is a wild fire near the town of Lipan and Tolar.  Spreading fast.  They have a mandatory evacuation of Lipan right now.  I can see the smoke from my back porch.  The air is very hazy here.  Let it rain and soon.  This is bad.

Hull Barbee has a facility in Lipan that is under construction. Fire is 6-7 miles away. Fire is also threatening his ranch in Sterling City. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

How do things look this morning?

Kurt,

We are getting an nice dizzle here.  The fires were about 18 miles from us.  Late yesterday afternoon you could see the smoke quite clearly from our back patio.  The smoke column blew west of us, so we were spared the smell and most of the haze.  I hope the rain keeps up.  I feel so bad for all those folk affected by this.  It reminds me of the fires we had near Possum Kingdom 5 years ago.  Palo Pinto County was most affected.  You still see the charred remains of thousands of trees.  PK had lots of bare hills now.  It will take years for this to heal.

Steve and all

Just talking tax breaks makes me chuckle. I once was audited by the IRS Office in Richardson on Campbell Road. I had just moved back from Norman Ok. At the time I was still a 1099 Wholesale Furniture Sales Rep for Universal Furniture. This was my 3rd audit in 7 years!! At that time we reps paid ALL of our own expenses to do business. Things like mileage, motels/hotels, meals out on the road, etc... I was audited for my 42,000 miles of deductions I used for my car one year. Now Steve, this is the part that gets me when you mentioned the lack of knowledge some government workers have! My auditor sits down with me and begins to fill out some form he is working on with a pencil. I noticed he seemed stumped along the way and stopped to erase something not once, but three times. THEN he looks up at me and asked me how to spell Oklahoma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I KID YOU NOT!!!! I knew I was in for a long afternoon from that point. BTW my records were in order and I passed the audit!

Looks like Hull's Sterling City ranch and his Lipan construction location are in the clear for now.

NCAA Swimming Champ Caught In Possession Of Performance-Enhancing Testicles

ATLANTA, GA—Celebrations for winning the 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships were short-lived for convincingly female athlete Lia Thomas, as authorities caught her in possession of performance-enhancing testicles.

“Investigators will need time to sift through the trail of evidence right now,” said NCAA’s Head of Testicle Enforcement, Bob Huevos, while holding up a jock strap, the device suspected to have been used to conceal the contraband from rigorous testing protocols. “We suspect the swimmer used this contraption to keep the performance-enhancing testicles secured between her legs.”

Blood tests of the disgraced, obviously-female swimmer have led Huevos to believe Thomas had a long history of using testicles to dose with powerful testosterone, perhaps beginning in early childhood.

“Long term testicle use like this may explain the female swimmer’s towering height, powerful muscles, dense bone structure, deep voice, and bulging crotch,” explained Huevos, “These permanent mutations from testosterone abuse would have given her a lifetime advantage over other female athletes even if she were to quit and go on estrogen. For that reason, Lia Thomas should be disqualified from competition.”

This may not be the end of Lia Thomas’ story, however. In the name of equity, diversity, and inclusion, the disgraced swimmer has been given a second chance with an invitation to compete as a collegiate swimmer in the NCAA Swimming And Diving Championships For Women With Testicles.

David,

Executives at Twitter say that is hate speech.  Funny world when feminists are defending men pretending to be women.  Whatever happened to them hating men?

Back to Old Classics. This movie has always been one of my favorites! Burt Lancaster shows off some of his athletic prowess in this scene!

Have you ever thought about the significance of the passage of time?

03/22/22 03:05 PM #24035

Steve Keene

David,

The significance in the passage of time hits home when I realize how slowly time will pass for the three years waiting on a competent commander in chief and a qualified Vice President.  When the good times were here when Trump was in charge, time flew with a positive feeling and assured great outcome that made one happy to wake up each day and do one's part.

03/22/22 06:23 PM #24036

Jim Bedwell

Ditto!! Happy birthday, Jimmy Baker!!!! I could NEVER hate you since you might actually have ALWAYS been shorter than I..................PLUS you're still breathing and healthy!! GOD IS GOOD!!!

I guess Kamala's idea of a pastime is to "think" (in any uncackling moments) of the passage of time, or at least waste the time of all people listening to her worthless drivel (the only good thing is she keeps it brief, unlike her "boss").

So, apparently, despite pressure, Koch Industries has decided to keep their Guardian Glass Manufacturing plants open and producing in Russia.   They have a spin, which could or could not be justified, but basically I think they (Mr. Koch) don't like to be pushed around by any kind of American vendetta action purportedly designed to harm Puddin.

It made me think.   Say there's 100-200 oligarchs in Russia (I don't know what designation financially is required to be rated as an oligarch,) and now they are having all their worldly assets either frozen or confiscated by the Nato alliance holding Puddin financially hostage with sanctions.

Don't the oligarchs exist at the discretion of Puddin?   In my mind, they're not Russian patriots, but luckily financial greedy self centered heads of (I guess) vital industries and conglomerates.  By hook or by crook they are Russian financial behemoths.   A bunch of them (as well as Chinese oligarchs) have had the rug pulled out from underneath just for being too greedy or anti dictator.

Am I wrong in thinking the way to bring down Puddin might be to allign with the oligarchs, or at least be intelligence minded and pick and choose which ones might help us rather than Puddin.

I mean, we ought to topple the man from within, and if they have been pushed back to alliance with Puddin, our strategy against them might be wrong.
