Message Forum

Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Lowell,

Those are Cabelas fishing pants that zip off to make shorts.  The lines on them make them look like adidas sweats, but those lines are lighting coming between the blinds from the window that made three bright stripes.  An open shade caused the lighted square on Dave's shirt.  Most guys shirts would have been comletely in the light, but it only lightened a quarter of the shirt of a man that has a gourmet chef as a son.

Sorry to hear of your brother-in-law's issues but glad to hear you are on the right side of the ICU door.  You should list him on the Prayer List.

A couple of entertainment experiences today.

Went to the theater to see The Most Reluctant Convert -- about C.S. Lewis. It was originally a stage play. He is shown at three different ages. The oldest version serves as narrator/biographer, appearing on-screen throughout even while his younger self is on screen. It is obviously a character study, and would be interesting to anyone who likes C.S. Lewis's works. If you're looking for action, look elsewhere.

The other is the third episode of Peter Jackson's The Beatles Get Back on Disney Plus. It culminates in the famous rooftop concert. A lot of friction, though not terribly harsh. Rooftop concert is cool to watch. It was their last time to perform live together. People on the street couldn't see them. Bobbies tried to stop the concert because of noise complaints. I think the episode runs 2 hours an 18 minutes, but you might just enjoy the last hour.

David,

I am glad you enjoyed "The Most Reluctant Convert".  I saw it on the opening night in Allen. I posted about it on this site back in Nov.

Sandra,

It is very clear that the really big money is not controlled by the energy sector.  They used to be the ones that bought the big ranches.  The people buying the big 200+ million dollar ranches are the big liberal media moguls.  Ted Turner bought the Ladder ranch in New Mexico and numerous ranches in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.  Stan Kroenke of Kroenke Sports and Entertainment who owns the LA Rams and Arsenal Soccer teams bought the W.T. Waggoner ranch for 725 million dollars.  Taylor Sheridan who bought the Four Sixes is a self described liberal who wants to fight for the rights of indegenous peoples.  T. Boone Pickens died broke with his only asset being his 100+ thousand acre ranch that he has listed for multiple millions but has mortgaged at the bank for more than it is worth, so it has so far had trouble finding a buyer.  The Energy business is a fickle companion, sometimes making the owner rich, and sometimes dead broke.  It is either feast or feathers in the oil business.  Many of the big ranches in the Panhandle like the S.B Masterson and much of the Bivins, the Johnson ranch, the Herring Ranch, the Yake ranch and the J. M. Sanford and Coon have sold all or much of their surface and now retain only their mineral estate.  They were put together by shrewed cattlemen and only kept together by oil royalties when discoveries were made on the ranches.

By the way I hear that the liberals will no longer allow coal to be put in the stockings of unruly, misbehaving, pretentious or pompous ungrateful children because it is a fossil fuel.  So in keeping with their love of Solar energy when they open their stockings they will have a little ray of sunshine instead.   It is cheaper, too if given in the daytime.

Steve,

I see that the largest U.S. oil company (Exxon) by market capitalization is worth less than 10% of the market cap of Apple. Meta/Facebook is worth 3.4 times as much as Exxon.

If I were asked whether I'd rather get rid of oil companies or social media companies, I'd choose the latter.

David,

Scattershooting while working at my computer:

One thing that has always amazed me is how the liberal mindset deifies the lyrics of popular rock songs and quotes them like grounded authors and religious people quote their Bible. They seem to forget that many of these lyrics were written by unkempt teens and young people in their early twenties living in their parents' garage.  They were composing lyrics from their limited vocabularies. and were really lost kids searching for an identity or something of shock value to get noticed.  They changed bands more often than they put on clean underwear.

When I hear an old hippie that never grew up talk about their peace and love, I just gag.  These guys couldn't even maintain their friendships among each other as teens.

On another note, I was thinking about "1883" the new feature film by Taylor Sheridan.  That was the year the wild frontier town of Tascosa was started in Oldham County, next to the XL, LS, and LIT ranches by a New Mexican trader named Romero who brought in dry goods and whiskey from Santa Fe and Lincoln, New Mexico.  He built his store on a low water crossing of the Canadian River at Atascosa Creek.  The original name of the town was Atascosa (that means boggy) for the swampy willow shallows where it joined the Canadian.  The town name was shortened to Tascosa after the influx of saloons, gambling houses and houses of prostitution that grew up around the store.  The town was famous for separating the area cowboys from their wages.  It has an extensive boot hill where over 27 gunfighters were buried.  There are many colorful epitaphs.

I was thinking about the words on a headstone for one of todays liberals.  Here is the last Lie of T.J. Thomas, RIP.  May he "Roast In Pieces."

Forwarded to me by a lurker.

The CYNICAL PHILOSOPHER...

Just read that 2,153,237 people got married last year.  Not to cause any trouble but shouldn't that be an even number?

Today a man knocked on my door and asked for a small donation towards the local swimming pool. I gave him a glass of water.

If I had a dollar for every girl that found me unattractive, they would eventually find me attractive.

I find it ironic that the colours red, white, and blue stand for freedom until they are flashing behind you.

When wearing a bikini, women reveal 90% of their body... men are so polite they only look at the covered parts.

A recent study has found that women who carry a little extra weight, live longer than the men who mention it.

Relationships are a lot like algebra. Have you ever looked at your X and wondered Y?

America is a country which produces citizens who will cross the ocean to fight for democracy but won't cross the street to vote.

Did you know that dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish?

My therapist says I have a preoccupation with vengeance. We'll see about that.

I think my neighbour is stalking me as she's been googling my name on her computer. I saw it through my telescope last night.

Money talks ...but all mine ever says is good-bye.

You're not fat, you're just... easier to see.

If you think nobody cares whether you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.

I always wondered what the job application is like at Hooters. Do they just give you a bra and say, “Here, fill this out?”

I can’t understand why women are okay that JC Penny has an older women's clothing line named, “Sag Harbor.”

My therapist said that my narcissism causes me to misread social situations. I’m pretty sure she was hitting on me.

My 60 year kindergarten reunion is coming up soon and I’m worried about the 175 pounds I’ve gained since then.

Denny’s has a slogan, “If it’s your birthday, the meal is on us."  If you’re in Denny’s and it's your birthday, your life sucks!

The pharmacist asked me my birth date again today. I'm pretty sure she's going to get me something.

On average, an American man will have sex two to three times a week. Whereas, a Japanese man will have sex only one or two times a year. This is very upsetting news to me. I had no idea I was Japanese.

The location of your mailbox shows you how far away from your house you can be in a robe before you start looking like a mental patient.

I think it's pretty cool how Chinese people made a language entirely out of tattoos.

David and Hull,

I may have to take your suggestion and quit lurking on Tommy's site.  The smarmy comments over there are getting to be more than I can take.

Steve,

We all have blind spots. Looks like you are experiencing some visual correction.

I wouldn't worry about what is said about you on the pun site. First, consider the source. Are they people whose opinions you respect? Second, Everyone who knows you has developed their own opinion of you. They are unlikely to be swayed by someone else's opinion. They are more likely to reduce their opinion of the person who is defaming you.

Anyway, I like you. I really like you.

Steve -- I've been thinking the same thing about Tommyrot.  The negativity and arrogance are bad for my general well-being.

I was downtown yesterday -- the tent city under 59 is back, but much smaller, at least for now.  The tents are brand new and of nice quality.  I wonder if it's the same people coming back with new equipment or if the do-gooders have funded a different set of people into that life.

It occurred to me that the reason the lunatic fringe portion of the Democrat party (which seems to be the majority of them now) supports having the mentally ill living on the streets is that the root of their sneering sense of superiority is rooted in their own mental problems.

Steve, David and Bob D.

I was reminded of several of Mark Twain's quotes:

Some people make you glad when you arrive and some make you glad when they leave.

“Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.”

“Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.”

Chief Steve No Stache,

You said Dylan Thomas (was he named after Bob Dylan?) said:

Do not go gentle into that good night, old age should burn and rave at close of day, rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I say:

Did not go gently last night, old age shouldn't burn & make raw at close of day, as I age, age again in the drying up of the life.

Do not go gentle into that good night, old age should burn and rave at close of day; rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Famous quotation, made more famous by its use in the Rodney Dangerfield movie Back to School.

Bob - I told myself I would hold off altogether, but your latest post finally pushed me off the fence

The background on the homeless encampment under the U.S. 59 bridge in Houston is as follows.

1.  Houston City Council passed a homeless ordinance allowing it to permanently disband open-air homeless encampments in Houston as they determined it to be in the best interest of the city..  The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed suit claiming the ordinance was unconstitutional.

2.  Federal Judge Kenneth Hoyt (appointed by Ronald Reagan) ruled in favor of he ACLU.

3.  Lance Cantor was correct in an earier post.  City of Houston uses its public health laws to periodically clear and clean the camp on an ongoing basis.   As you can imagine, people who are removed often move on to other sites, while others choose to come back, and new people join.

I assume that your comment that liberals somehow fund homelss people to stay in the camp and that homelessness is a Democratic problem was tongue in cheek.  Or maybe just polemic.  Nobody funds homeless people to live in open air encampments.  Nobody.

In fact, the City of Houston and Harris County coordinate with the Coalition for the Homeless on a comprehensive plan and spend millions of dollars in an effort to shelter people (think SEARCH, Star of Hope and Salvation Army) and they have built many units of permanent low-cost housing to serve formerly homeless people as well.

The Coalition for the Homeless in Houston is in fact considered a model  in the country for its continuum of care.

The former Vice-President for Program Services for the Coalition responsible for all program services is my very close personal friend (she recently resigned to run one of the largest homeless housing non-profits in Houston) as is the Chairman of the Board for the Coalition.

I would be happy to arrange for you to meet either or both of them - perhaps you or your law firm would like to help them with some money?  Perhaps the rent on an aparment for one year?

Merry Christmas.
