Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Hollis,

Most of the terms I use when describing Liberals or Progressives are directed toward Tommy, who regularly demeans Steve and me as people who are so wishy-washy as to be lured into a cult, and as we know, cults control people's minds by way of brainwashing techniques.  HE is the one who describes us with Hitlarian descriptions, etc.  I know he says things "tongue in cheek" very often, but his hate for Trump has clouded his judgment so significantly, in my opinion, that he seems to take his anger and derangement out on people who simply voted Republican in 2016, and were hoping that Trump's accomplishments would continue through the next four years, even though the Trump personality flaws were certainly numerous and annoying, similar to LBJ's personality annoyance.  Tommy is a very smart and good man, but his 'way of writing' is oftentimes difficult to decipher, for someone like me; an ordinary person of average understanding.

I was not refering to you or others, even though you and others "side" with him often.  I often speak with very direct and descriptive words, to make a significant point.  Many people do that, so I'm sure you will understand the reasoning there.

Bob Fleming is a guy I've know since grade school and he knows me quite well.  He knows that I think highly of him and know him to be a devout Catholic with a giving heart.  I only was wishing that he address the point I made, as it was a point about the very newspaper he chooses to read often, thinking that it is a reliable paper for the news, yet I deem the paper to be a paper of onesidedness; news that is purposely slanted, as are almost all of the US newspapers.  He says he also likes The Wall Street Journal, which is a paper that is much more fair and which uses proper journalistic methods of seeking and reporting the news with "just the facts."

My post was a reiteration of the very article by a prominent writer of THE NYT, his opinion, but "his opinion" was picked up by other writers who ran with it, and agreed with it.

I question your sources too.  I browse them often, but notice their slant immediately, so I prefer conservative sources easily found on the internet.  One source I often listen to, is a man, who speaks with incredible wisdom.  He is very accomplished in many ways, has studied his whole life, written many books, and is a walking encyclopedia.  He is a Jewish man, a lecturer, and is often asked to speak on hundreds of campuses, which he gladly does, as he is an amiable gentleman.  He studied at one time in Russia, for a year, and tells of his experience easily, with humor.  Can you guess his name?  I think he is one of the smartest guys I have ever listened to, and I find him fascinating in SO many ways.  Much of what I've learned recently has come from listening to him offer what he has gleaned.

Ron,

Give it up.  Nobody cares what you think either.

Your shtick is a repeat.  Sue squealed on you and has revealed the truth.

The authorities have been notified, and Holly will definitely be on your tail with her super sleuth acumen momentarily.  Watch for her and shmooze her with some Jimmy Choo footware and Caymus in hand.

Actually, Holly would probably prefer champagne.  The real stuff!---Not any California sparkling wine substitute.

I'm not sure that I'm comfortable with Governor Abbot's removal of the mask mandate. Well, I'm OK with removing the mandate, but I think there should have been a strong statement about the benefit of using masks.

When President Biden referred to Abbot's decision as "Neanderthal thinking" I was impressed -- that Biden knew the word Neanderthal.

My son reminded me of the name for people like "Ron" -- internet trolls.  I'm thinking something like it's "the name those young people use for a poseur" -- and feeling old and tired.

"Ron" -- I wish you would stay on the Tommyrot forum and post your silliness to amuse the liberals over there and stop wasting our time.

The hysteria about Abbot's stopping the face diaper requirement is a little disquieting -- he didn't say the virtue signalers can't continue to wear as many masks as they want if they think they are protecting themselves from illness.  My view is a bit colored by what my doctor told me -- wearing a mask is theater; she says it's like thinking you are safe drinking from a pool that someone peed in because they were wearing a bathing suit.

On the various lawyer-oriented facebook fora I frequent, the liberals are calling Abbot a mass murderer and worse.  Sigh.

Wayne Gary

I just got this from a friend

In the year    2020   , the Lord came unto Noah,
who was now living in America and said:
"Once again, the earth has become wicked and over
-populated, and I see the end of all flesh before me."
"Build another ark and save 2 of every living thing
along with a few good humans."
He gave Noah the blueprints, saying:
"You have 6 months to build the ark before I will
start the unending rain for 40 days and 40 nights."

Six months later, the Lord looked down and saw Noah
weeping in his yard - but no ark.
"Noah!," He roared, "I'm about to start the rain!
Where is the ark?"

"Forgive me, Lord," begged Noah, "but things have changed."
"I needed a building permit."

"I've been arguing with the boat inspector
about the need for a sprinkler system."

"My neighbors claim that I've violated the
neighborhood by-laws by building the ark in my
back yard and exceeding the height limitations. We had to
go to the local Planning Committee for a decision."

"Then the local Council and the electric company demanded
a shed load of money for the future costs of moving power
lines and other overhead obstructions, to clear the
passage for the ark's move to the sea. I told them
that the sea would be coming to us, but they would
hear none of it."

"Getting the wood was another problem. There's a ban
on cutting local trees in order to save the Greater Spotted Barn Owl."
"I tried to convince the environmentalists that I
needed the wood to save the owls - but no go!"

"When I started gathering the animals the ASPCA took me to court.
They insisted that I was confining wild animals against their will. They
argued the accommodations were too restrictive and
it was cruel and inhumane to put so many animals in
a confined space."

"Then the Environmental Protection Agency
ruled that I couldn't build the ark until they'd conducted an
environmental impact study on your proposed flood."

"I'm still trying to resolve a complaint with the
Human Rights Commission on how many minorities I'm
supposed to hire for my building crew."

"The Immigration Dept. is checking the
visa status of most of the people who want to work."

"The trade unions say I can't use my sons. They
insist I have to hire only Union workers with
ark-building experience."

"To make matters worse, the IRS seized all my assets, claiming I'm
trying to leave the country illegally with endangered species."

"So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least 10
years for me to finish this ark."

"Suddenly the skies cleared, the sun began to shine,
and a rainbow stretched across the sky."

Noah looked up in wonder and asked,

"You mean you're not going to destroy the world?" ;
"No," said the Lord.
"The Government beat me to it."

Janalu -- if you don't mind sharing, who is the person you mentioned?  I'm always looking for new sources of ideas and inspiration.

Bob,

I was talking about Dennis Prager.  You can listen to many of his lectures on YouTube.  He is such a delight to hear, as he is SO full of wisdom about the world, conservatism, and the Bible, mainly, of course, the Old Testament.  He lifts everyone's spirits with his positivness.

He is a graduate of Columbia Univ., living all of his young life in New York, mainly in Brooklyn, I believe, and he went to Jewish schools(yeshivas) until he was ready for high school.  His experiences are so interesting to hear, and the way he speaks is very easy to understand, much as in the manner of which Limbaugh used when speaking, I think.

I thought it was enlightening to hear him speak of the liberalism that abounds in the curriculum at Columbia University.  It is, of course, par for the course nowadays, but back when he went there, in the sixties, it was eye-opening for him.  However, he learned how to deal with it, by supplementing his education with other outside sources.  He learned how to deal with the professors in his own way, by engaging them in discussions interlaced with his own wealth of knowledge.  He did well at Columbia, and laughs about the challenge of it all.

I agree with you on it not being a wise idea for Abbot to drop the mask mandate just yet. I was at two of my doctor's this week and we had Covid discusions. I just had my first Covid shot on 2/25/21 and sheduled for my 2nd on 3/25/21. My PCP said that I should continue to wear my mask even after my 2nd shot. Besides after the 2nd shot it still takes another two weeks before you are completely immunized. And that after that I could still get the disease, I just wouldn't die from it. I don't think that even 25% of the population has received their shots yet. So, wearing a mask for a few more months while out in public is just prudent judgement. It has NOTHING to do with politics and more to do with common sense!

And I couldn't agree more about illegal aliens. The U.S. has a policy in place how to be here legally. And what you have to do to become a U.S. citizen. Is that too much to ask? I'm tired of our government giving away billions of our tax dollars on illegals. In many cases they have it better and more rights than much of our nations own poor citizens in terms of medical needs and even food stamps. That's sad.

I am proud to be a life long Republican. I have been criticized for being a little moderate at times. I just would rather keep an open mind and weigh things out for myself. My views are more along the lines of a John McCain  and NOT his wife.

Wayne

I think I know how Noah feels at times! Good one.

David C:

The problem I see with Abbott's removal of the mandate was that when he made the mandate the daily cases were about 2k lower than now, when he's removing it. Plus, all medical people, including doctors, do whom I have talked say it's just too soon to do this, not to mention the CDC's recommendations. For me, until the numbers get WAY lower, I and my family are wearing masks.

Janalu -- I should have guessed Prager.  I'm a huge fan, too.  I read all of his columns and have enjoyed the Prager U videos a lot.

Some time ago, I discovered classes at Congretation Beth Yashuran, a Conservative Jewish synagogue. It's been several years, but it reminded me of Prager and Dov Fischer, the American Spectator columnist.  I was generally the only goy in the classes on Jewish law, theology, morality, and history, but they always were extremely welcoming, if a bit amused by the Christian weirdos who had wandered in.  Our rector is close friends with their chief rabbi and had mentioned something he'd learned from a class there so I signed up for one.  I told them I was there to understand Jesus as a rabbi and the Old Testiment (but knew enough not to call it that).

One of the funny things about those Conservative Jews and the Episcopalians at my church is how similar they are in education, income, and aesthetic taste, but how different they are politically.  Our church is Bush Republican central (possibly because George and Barbara were long-time very active congregants): most people consider themselves economically conservative and socially liberal -- they may have voted for Trump once but only because the alternative was Hillary.  Beth Yashuran is a mix of sort of hardcore unapologetic conservatives and equally outspoken liberals -- you meet people who openly love Trump and ones who think he's a crass, vulgar jerk.  (One guy I like said that for Jews, Trump reminded them of the loudmouth uncle that embarrassed everyone whenever the family gets togther.)  Another big difference is that when the guys are relaxing, we often talk about fishing and hunting -- the Jews, never.

David W.,

I'm still wearing a mask. In fact, we are required to wear one on our campus. Not sure what I'll do after I get my second vaccine. I'll probably wear one most of the time anyway, just to keep from getting dirty looks. But I really hate the feeling of breathing the same air over and over.

That said, I'm not keen on governmental mandates.

I need memory help - -- I'm trying to replenish my collection of my favorite children's books ---

- maybe 2nd, 3rd grade or 4th grade - something about a small animal of some kind (something possibly  like or resembling a prairie dog, using his name) and "the Painted Desert" -- any ideas here?

I found another one I was looking for, after an exhaustive search - "Rabbit Hill" by Robert Lawson. I also found another on Ebay, though I won't talk about it here because it is apparently isn't PC these days, though it really expanded my imagination into what would become science fiction, really.

David C:

I agree - I'm not keen on government mandates, but I'm less keen on either causing someone to die because of my carelessness, or the other way around. My granddaughter loves us dearly, but since she works in a restaurant with all kinds of people with all kinds of exposures, she doesn't want to come over and visit us and be the reason we died.

Also, I don't wear mine 100% of the time. If I'm not in or near a group or person, I pull it down below my nose. I know I don't have COVID after being tested and receiving the first vaccination.

Tell those lukers to chime in!  What are they afraid of?  Don't they know that time is of the essence?

None of us are spring chickens anymore, so speak now while you have the chance, and we have the available ears to hear your lovely voices again, with funny anecdotes or points of view!  We enjoy the camaraderie, humor, & differing opinions to challenge our aging minds while they still operate with at least some capacity, and we miss having your faces return to our minds with memories of yesterday's fun times!

We're grandmas and grandpas now, so leave the shyness veil back in first grade or in junior high's awkward years!  Jump into the circle of old geezers and kick up your heels before someone pushes you into a wheelchair and shoves you out to pasture!

Put on your red dancing shoes and join our fun circle of love and silliness!  Throw caution to the wind and be free!  Time's 'awasting and our 'tickers' are winding down......we want to hear you say, "Hi y'all," one more time.....

Chippy goes to the Painted Desert. Also, elsewhere the book is said to be a 3rd grade reader, right where he remembered it being.

BREAKING NEWS

Dilley, Texas Frio County,

Texas Governor Abbott takes suggestions on illegal immigrant crisis from South Texas oilmen.  After meeting and deliberation, Governor Abbott annouces a free giveaway to illegal immigrants of costumes for Halloween/Day of the Dead.  The costumes will be issued to honor a Native Texas species, the white tail deer.  Those illegal immigrants with lengthy criminal records will be prioritized for costumes with larger head racks.  It is hoped that the costume giveaway can be coordinated to coincide with the Zone 3 Texas Whitetail Buck Hunting Season!

Biden administration is giving $300 per child per month to poorer folks who qualify to receive: this is taxpayer money, or as most would say, this is redistribution of wealth of people who have earned.  This new provision is part of the almost two TRILLION dollar package that is about to be signed by Biden, and will cause our GRANDCHILDREN to have to suffer under its burden of indebtedness.

Why does a child need $300 per month, unless that child is going to a private school?  Did your children go to private schools?

And does this money go to children who have parents making 75 thousand dollars per year or less?  I'm not clear about what the cap is for "poverty" level, according to what Schumer and Peloisi determine. They and Andrew Yang, who was fond of giving away quaranteed "income" to Americans, say this program is for a one year trial run, yet does anyone believe this will only be for one year, truthfully?

Since when does it happen that taxpayer money goes to people who have young children, just because those families have those kids, and those families have many needs?  When I was young, my family had four kids and it was my parent's RESPONSIBLILTY to provide for those kids, so my parents budgeted carefully, doing without some preferences when necessary, (we didn't have a TV for quite a while) and they MADE THEIR INCOME WORK, in whatever ways they had to do it!  They didn't expect subsidies from anyone.  We lived in a two bedroom, one bath frame house for seven and a half years.  It didn't matter to any of us about that, and we all were a happy family with plenty to eat, and enough clothing to get by.  We also had one car for a number of years when I was a youngster.  My Dad was going to graduate school in the evenings and weekends, while he worked at a fulltime job every work day.

My parents did what they had to do to make it all work out, and we managed.  We may have been considered "poorer" folks, but I'm not sure.  We kids didn't know that we had little, because our parents made sure that we had what we needed, and we had lots of love in our home to smooth out rough edges.

I'm feeling old, old, old today.  I had two hearings this morning so I had to look at myself on Zoom all morning.  Friday I had a Zoom mediation and had to have the painful experience of looking at myself for four hours.  While I looked, I was thinking, "Who is that old geezer?"  Then, "Oh my gosh, that's me."

Two of my favorite clerks in the District Clerk's office are retiring this month.  They were two of the prettiest young women in that office when I was a baby lawyer -- and have always been super nice to me.  I still think of them now as beautiful youngsters, since they are still years younger than me. Hot babes in their fifties or sixties makes perfect sense to me now.  (Fifteen or so years ago I appeared in court with a client in his early twenties.  The judge was a woman I knew in law school.  I always thought she was adorably cute and said to the client after the hearing that I had to watch myself from trying to flirt with that judge. He looked at me in absolute horror, blurting out, "You're kidding.  She's older than my mother.")

We went to another funeral last week -- of someone who graduated in the 1950s.  I remembered my dad saying that their friends' funerals were their main social activities until their friends all died -- first the older ones, then their peers, then their younger friends, then their friends' kids.  It used to be that most of the people I knew who died were older than me; now a whole lot of them are our age or, even worse, much younger.

Bob, go out in the yard and dig up some dead trees, dead dirt, and re plant or transfer old plants into another place and then stop and check the shaking in your legs.

That's what I've been doing.

I nap almost every day now.

Janalu, they sure are looking at the covid relief package a lot more closely now than they did a year ago, or even last November....I gotta say.

It aint just the 300 a month per kid in the house extra...It's the other 27 trillion overdrafted we are...

Interest rates took a little bump over the weekend.

What does the US take in in taxes a year?  18 trillion?   What's the interest on 27 trillion?  1-2 trillion?   What happens when that interest rate goes from 1 to 5% or more?

Good thing we have a democrat in the whitehouse...those federal workers will go harder for their buck under a willing helpful boss.
