Message Forum

Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Bobby: Wilerson was in the last few weeks interviewed on NPR's Fresh Air. The show's archives for listening to the conversation or reading that interview transcript might appeal to those who might not have time or motivation to track down and read the book.

Terry: Wish fervently I could drive down. Don't want to enter bathrooms with Covid air and also don't trust hotels either. Cannot stay with relatives or friends. Thanks for the invite. That sounds super fun and social distancing possible although would be so difficult not to hug y'all.

I was a little pissed that you had me listed under urine.  That yellow pale is cirrhosis not weewee.

Terry,

I hesitated rsvping to your get together because I did not know the schedule of my participation in events leading up to my daughter Madison's wedding on Oct. 3, 2020.  I had to shorten a trip I took towards Seattle a couple of days ago and drove home because my leg swole up like a balloon.  I went to the emergency room thinking I had a blood clot.  Turns out I had scratched my leg on some brush in the Wild West and got a bacterial infection with a giant red hot spot that extended through a large bruise on my leg.  My platelet count was low and I have a compromised immune system due to my cirrhosis.  They gave me an antibiotic IV and watched me for a day.  I am now on antibiotic pills, but have to stay off my leg until the swelling is completely gone.  I also have to keep it elevated.  I am still up in the air on whether I can attend, but I always enjoy the gathering of friends at your beautiful home.  Please don't tempt me with the promise of all that good food,   I am trying to diet to keep up with my new squeeze.  Cordell says I should have gone to a med facility in Cody, Wy. where the problem got too big to ignore.  However, after entering the log cabin med facility and spying the bone saws, I decided that driving back to Texas was not out of the question.

David, thank you for the update on Orinne Sullivan.  I'm having a little bit of a nostalgia trip here in Houston and have been re-reading my mother's personal story that she wrote shortly bfore here death.  Eileen's mother is mentioned and her respect for the woman is evident.  I will pass the word to my sister.

Terry, Terry and I were discussing the trip to Austin last night.  We will let you know shortly.  Meanwhile, I can say this to my classmates.  It's a treat just to make the drive, look at the stars, and just walk into Terry's home.

Hollis, I will look up that interview with Isabel Wilkerson.

Best wishes.

I remember you from both Indian Guides and Spring Valley Elem. I was in Mr Boze's 6the grade class. I saw a old post where David had a picture from the class with You and Cathy Akin.  I found the picture in the Old Photos and I am the 2nd from right on the next to back row.

Yes, we liberal casserole gals care about you.

Wayne:

I coveth that Lamplighter plate!!!  Remember the plates with a circle of animals printed around the school logo in the middle?  Chi Chi the monkey, I think the barn cat was named Miss Kelly, and the peacock.  My mom didn't save any of those the several plates we had.  Dang.

Several years ago I contacted the school through Hockaday asking if they had archival photos of the old days. Never received any response.  Would love to see photos of the barn and the mountain my father designed.

Such happy  days at that extraordinary school.  I had some wonderful teachers at Heights, but first grade there was a real shock after Lamplighter's love and care and creativity. I was there for two years, 57-58 and 58-59 and carpooled with the Jones girls, Randy and Kevyn sometimes.

Hollis,

I remember the barn and my parents gave them some bantum chickens we had in our back yard until they got too noisy. We lived at the corner of Turner Way and Hughes 2 bolcks away from the school.  I think it was in 1 st grade when for my B'day we had a man with a horse/pony drawn wagon pick up the class and go to our house for a party.  I might stop by Lamplighter and see if they have any pictures of the old school.

I was in K and 1st grade there because I have a Nov 19,1951  B'day and with 2 older brothers my parents did not want me to wait until I was 6 on sept 1st to start to school so I was 4 when I started kindergarten and 5 when I started 1st grade.

I'll bet you are a good and experienced chef, ready to give Julia Child a challenge in the kitchen, should she ever return to Earth with angelic wings on her back!  Hey!  Never say never!

We're at an age when we should make sure that we have wills and make family members know what our wishes are with regard to the end of life.

I mentioned to Martha that I wanted to be cremated.

She made an appointment for Tuesday.

Jan, where are you living now??

09/12/20 07:25 PM #18925

Wayne Gary

David,

If you give your body to UT Southwestern Med School they will do the cremation for free.  Your family will get your cremains after about yr. That would be your last teaching to students.

An Old Golfer was hitting his ball from near a water hazard and his club fell into the water.

When he cried out, the Lord appeared and asked, "Why are you crying?"

The golfer replied that his club had fallen into the water and he needed the club to have a chance to win the tournament and supplement his meager pension.

The Lord went down into the water and reappeared with a golden club.

"Is this your club?" the Lord asked.

The golfer replied, "No."

The Lord again went down and came up with a silver club.

"Is this your club?" the Lord asked.

Again, the golfer replied, "No."

The Lord went down again and came up with an old iron club. "Is this your club?" the Lord asked.

The golfer replied, "Yes, that’s it!"

The Lord was pleased with the golfer's honesty and gave him all three clubs to keep, and the golfer won his tournament and went home happy.

Sometime later, the golfer was walking with his wife along the water hazard, and she fell into the lake.

When he cried out, the Lord again appeared and asked him, "Why are you crying?"

"Oh, Lord, my woman has fallen into the water!"

The Lord went into the water and reappeared with Kate Upton.  "Is this your woman?" the Lord asked.

"Yes," cried the golfer.

The Lord was furious. "You lied! That is an untruth!"

The golfer replied, "Oh, forgive me Lord. It is a misunderstanding. You see, if I had said 'No' to Kate Upton, you would have come up with Jennifer Anniston. Then if I said 'No' to her, you would have come up with my woman. Had I then said 'Yes,' you would have given me all three. And Lord, I am an old man not able to take care of all three women in a way that they deserve... so that's why I said 'Yes' to Kate Upton.

And God was pleased.

The moral of this story is:

If a golfer ever tells a lie, it is for a good and honorable reason and only out of consideration for others.

Last night I was talking to my wife of 25yrs. She said before we met she would not marry an Aggie or a salesman.  She ended up marring me, and Aggie and industrial pump salesman.
