Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Lance,

I didn't see either one, as I couldn't stomach the filmed fiasco.  I did however see the talking heads afterwards, and they presented outtakes of the highlights.  I saw that Obama was delivering his speech in his usual "slick' style, so very sure of himself, and so sure that everyone enjoys and appreciates his suave, polished, erudite tripe, everyone except me, and my favorite friends.  He presents his lies so well, doesn't he?  He's so smooth that he even pauses, in just the right moments, to let his zingers sink in, down to the bone of those who swoon over the idiotic nonsense, unaware that they've been snookered.

The talking heads were saying how arrogant and mean-spirited he was to admonish a sitting president, only 3 and a half yrs. after leaving office, while past presidents have had much better manners, and have not participated in such rudeness, refraining from faux-pas of that magnitude.

Yes, he was noticed to have been very negative and full of hatefulness, in accordance with his fellow devotees, who worship him.

Kamala, the interviewers said, didn't say much that was noteworthy, but rather talked mostly about her family life instead, which the observers felt was nothing much to indicate what her future directives would entail, leaving them to say her speech appealed mainly to women who think she is 'hot,' and has snazzy style; failing to notice that she is a backbiter, to anyone she feels is in her way.

Kamala has no comparison to Mike Pence's integrity, decency, honesty, experienced record, or family's shared Christian bonding.

If you have reviewed her history in San Francisco or have seen her vicious attacks while on Senate investigative committees recently, you have noticed or witnessed her as her true self; she's a protegee of Barack's counsel for quite some time now, and I suspect he was the one who had the most "say" in her appointment to Biden's team.

Did you read about Mayor Brian Snedecor of Hobart Indiana, who has swtiched from being a Democrat to being a Republican because he said his Christian faith has caused him to make the change, being unable to stay true to his religious beliefs, had the turnabout not happened.

It was John Adams who told us in 1798, that "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

By the way, you need to print on the other forum, Trump's long list of accomplishments, since they are unaware that Trump has ANY accomplishments, and you need to add the lastest news of what Trump's team has completed recently, between the UAE and Israel, a shining star of triumph.

Lance,

What else can you say?  Can you say you want a one-size-fits-all healthcare program managed by the same people who manage the US Postal System?  Can you say you don't mind waiting for a medical procedure in a waiting line that may hold you up for 6 months or more, and even after waiting in line, you may find out that a highly specific piece of equipment you need for treatment is not available because of its price tag?  Can you say that even though you need a specific, very costly drug to manage your health problem which might even lead to your death, you want to hear someone tell you, "Sorry!  We don't furnish that drug to our patients becuse it is WAY too costly, so we will give you a drug that will give you a little more survival time, but that's about as good as we can do for you.  Again, so sorry, sir!"

If you desire to fly to another country that has the drug you want, or the specialized equipment you need, you will have to do that with money out of your pocket.  Hope you've got a large savings account!

So what do you say to the folks who want to eliminate the health program you now have, and tell you there is only one program in the US for everyone, and everyone gets basically the same treatment, which they will claim is fair?  Do you feel that's fair?  Or do you say, "That is a program that may be fairly adequate, but it is not fair to be forced into it."

Of couse you understand that the elite members of our Congress, former presidents and family members, and Deep State civil servants, get a wholly different health plan; an all-inclusive plan that YOU and every other taxpayer has prepaid for them.  They would never settle for the heath plan they are forcing YOU and the rest of us to have.

If you are a person willing and able to pay for a program that specifically meets your personal needs, you are a person who will NOT be able to get health insurance in the US, but can travel to another country accepting you, and pay whatever costs they will charge, if you feel you can manage that scenario.

Hopefully you won't be in a wheelchair or have limited mobility, at the time of your medical neediness.....

Please: POSTERS of this forum!

Please tell me why Dems so often refer to Republicans as "dark."  We are not dark (aren't we supposed to be unaware lately, of differing colors---Of darkness or lightness or whiteness or browness?)

We Republicans are fully illuminated!  There's nothing we are keeping in darkness and nothing that is sinister about us....

And why is Trump being accused of destroying democracy?  Doesn't democracy mean that "all have a voice, and we all participate in our governance, (or, by way of the representatives we elect and send to D.C. to shout out our voices there) plus we all can vote, as citizens, in this country."

Who is NOT being allowed to vote or who is not being allowed to voice their opinion, by way of voting?  Where are the people who are not allowed to vote?  I haven't seen or heard of anybody being held back.  The Democrats keep insisting they know of people being held back from the upcoming election.

Nonsense!

Please point them out to us so we can furnish them with a ballot and mailing instructions, and even offer them a ride to their local post office!!  I, for one, will be glad to help them out, if I know where the heck they are!  OR, I can refer them to a proper office of assistance, where, I suspect, they can even get someone to drive them, if needed....

It's so annoying to hear that Trump is denying or destroying democracy, or that Republicans are actively destroying democracy.  How is it being done, and where is it being done without someone pointing it out for all to see?

I know of no person anywhere who is trying to destroy democracy.

NO ONE.  Yet I keep hearing it said.

Have you heard it too?  Can you explain this continuing complaint from Democrats?  If they know it is happening, then why don't they announce where, what town or city----They never say anything more.... They just say "Trump is destroying democracy," and they think others will believe it if they just keep saying it over and over.

Janalu,

I told the posters on the other site but I want to tell the ones on this site, too.  This week the manager at the Goodyear plant in Ardmore, Oklahoma where my mother was born and my grandparents lived for many years, announced to his employees that MAGA hats were banned from the Goodyear premises as were other political attire.  He included Blue Lives Matter shirts and other Conservative attire.  He said attire supporting Black Lives Matter and bringing attention to the racial disparities and LGBTQ issues were okay.  I got mad.  I went out to my 2018 HD Diesel Chevrolet High Country truck and looked at the tires.  They were Goodyears.  How dare those liberals from Akron, Ohio come down here and try to spread their liberal ideas in Oklahoma and Texas.  I took my truck to Arkansas and traded the whole thing in.  I bought a new 2020 2500HD Diesel Pickup.  When it rolled out it had Goodyear tires.  I told them that that queers the deal, no pun intended.  They agreed to change the tires to Michelins.  Because of covid 19 they had to gather them in 2's and 1's from other stores as far away as Nashville, Tn. Michelin had shut down their plant and had just reopened and orders were backlogged.  Boycott chick fil A will they?  Turnabout is fair play.  There is a lot of difference between at $3.99 cent sandwich and a $2500 set of tires on a $70,000 pickup.

Lance,

Your jokes remind me of the time a pickup and trailer pulled up next to me in Lewisville.  He had a load of used motorcycles.  I was pulling a trailer full of used truck tires.  The passenger rolled down his window and gestured for me to roll down mine.  I did and he said, "Looks like you are ready to retire."  I shot right back.  "Looks like you are ready to recycle."    I may have told that story before.

I try not to post overtly political statements on the Forum.  We are all being beaten down no matter which direction we're pointing.  However, I recently read an analysis of the three major TV networks news coverage regarding Biden and Trump.  I know conservatives always say that the mainstream media is biased towards liberal and progressive causes, but most of us don't have time to watch and collate the actual programs.  The article below provides insight to this matter.

MSM Displays Historic Anti-Trump Bias
Thomas Gallatin

It's no secret that the mainstream media is no fan of President Donald Trump, though, truth be told, the MSM has not liked a Republican president since Dwight D. Eisenhower. However, the degree of negative bias the MSM news networks have displayed in covering Trump dwarfs that of any president in modern history.

A recent survey from the Media Research Center found that the Big Three networks — ABC, CBS, and NBC — have been 150 times more negative in their coverage of Trump compared to that of Joe Biden. MRC's Rich Noyes observes, "I've been studying the news media and elections for more than 35 years. Trust me — there's never been anything like it."

Noyes also reports: "From June 1 through July 31, the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts focused 512 minutes of airtime on the President, or nine times more than the 58 minutes allotted to Biden. ... The extra airtime devoted to Trump consisted almost entirely of anchors and reporters criticizing the President. During these two months, our analysts documented 668 evaluative statements about the President, 95 percent of which (634) were negative, vs. a mere five percent (34) that were positive. Using the same methodology ... we found very few evaluative statements about Joe Biden — just a dozen, two-thirds of which (67%) were positive." Therefore, "Viewers heard 150 TIMES more negative comments about Trump than Biden."

David,

I was going to tell you that I enjoy watching those old classic movies too, especially the ones with Fred Astaire and Ginger, Fred Astaire and Rita, Fred and Cyd Charisse, and many others.  They were such fabulous dancers and hoofers.  Gene Kelly was mighty fine too.

Watching dancers dance puts a smile on faces of the viewers, I have noticed.  The dancers always seem to be having such a good time.

I always wanted to learn how to tap dance, but my mother insisted that I stick with piano lessons, and she said "I can't afford to give you both."  My sister quit piano lessons because she didn't like them, so my mother gave her dancing lessons instead.  Boy was I pissed, but my mother told me, "Just hush!  You are much better at the piano than Jill, so I don't want to hear any more about it!"

My mother and I went round and round quite a few times!  HA!

I never won.  Well maybe once.....

Kurt,

That was an informative post, and I hope you'll post more.  Your added voice is wonderful.

I was just reading that Herschel Walker is calling out the DNC for using the racial card way too much.

Interesting, huh?

I also just heard on 'Breaking News' that the female panda at the National Zoo in DC, just gave birth to a tiny,  baby!  The zoo personnel thought she might be pregnant, but weren't sure, so this afternoon's news is terrific for the world!  Yahoo!!

Main stream media, in my mind, would or should include radio and the talk shows on the radios.

They are in no way a liberal bent.  At least the ones I have occasionally scanned.

I don't watch mainstream media...

I read the paper....watch some cable media...and some local news...

David Cordell

Lowell,

It is sometimes difficult to separate news from opinion in the mass media. We know that Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow are all about opinion -- identifying facts that support their opinions and ignoring facts that don't. This seems to have spilled over into news reporting. I've seen/heard/read it in TV, radio, and print. Even the Wall Street Journal, which has a conservative editorial page, has news reporting that, to conservatives like me, seems rather unfair. And the NY Times? Forgettaboutit!

Fox News showed snippets of some of the fawning, slobbering commentary on MSNBC and CNN after the Biden acceptance speech, and it made me gag. I guarantee that they will use the word "dark" to describe Trump's acceptance speech, which will be dark in the sense that the typical main stream media person will hate it because they hate him

Steve,

Did you really trade in your truck because of the tires? Call me crazy, but I'm not sure how that gets back at Goodyear. They already have your money. Why not just paint "I wish these were Cooper tires" (the only other American-made brand) on your tires until you need new ones? Even trashing good tires and buying new ones would have made more sense than trading in your truck.

Or were you pulling our collective leg?

Janalu,

I've posted this before, but you may have missed it. Possibly my favorite YouTube video. See how many actors you recognize. NOte James Cagney in the sailor suit at about 1:10.

David,

I told Janalu there is a little more to it than that.  My truck has 70,000 miles which is the pivot point for the highest resale value.  They  gave me $44000 for my old truck.  The new one has all the new bells and whistles including 360 degree cameras and an overhead and behind trailer and side view.  It displays info on the glass of the windshield and has a back up trailer camera and fifth wheel connections.  There is 1 1/2 times more legroom in the back seat.  It is the new sport model AT4 GMC with 10 speed Allison transmission.  It also has the new tailgate you have seen advertised and steps on the side of the bed that I can use to get things out of the bed.   I checked with my tax advisor and with Trump as President I can write off almost all of the truck this year for business.   If Biden were to get elected he would remove this tax break going forward insuring that few trucks would be sold and unionized manufacturing jobs would disappear down the drain kind of like they did when Obama was in office.  Plus I used the Kirkpatrick's at Coventry Realty to sell an 18 acre tract that I bought two months ago when it was listed for sale by owner too cheap for my area.  I doubled my investment after making two payments.  It is nice to know a good realtor in our class and I highly recommend them.  I bought the Michelins for a better highway drive and got to keep the new Goodyears which I intend to trade for some more aggressive tread offroad tires that I will use when I am working in the boondocks on dirt roads.

Plus my old truck had gotten dirty.

Now you know the rest of the story.  Good day!

Steve,

Are you saying you get a new truck instead of paying $5.00 for a wash.  My parents had a friend that was accused of getting a new RV when the ash tray got full.

Yes I have seen that video, and I just watched your post again.  I never get tired of seeing it.

It's such a happy one to watch, whenever.  Music is peppy too!

I liked watching Gregory Hines too.  So sad we lost him too early.

You are living in the 1980's.  It costs $25 for a decent wash these days.

I've been self employed sole proprietor, corporate (S,) and both when filing tax returns for 58 years.   I have never been able to convince my CPA to take a deduction for owning a vehicle.  I have been allowed to take business miles at a certain cost allowance which changes from year to year.  I am constantly cautioned to keep a log of my driving, which I never have done a good job on.

I go on a few sales calls, go to the bank, office depot, the post office...

It was difficult to justify the savings on deductions and the time spent keeping the log.

Never was audited.  (fingers crossed.)

Different businesses have different rules...

You could even write off commercial auto insurance expense...

I suppose a real business use only vehicle in a corporate name could be completely deductible...Like a fleet of plumber trucks/vans...and then you could or would be able to take depreciation, etc...and the interest on any car loans to the business...

One of my CPA golf buddies always told me to take the deduction, you'll never get another chance later if you don't...My CPA won't abide.

Do any of you remember a TV show in the late 50s and early 60s called THE MILLIONAIRE?

It was about a very wealthy man, John Beresford Tipton, Jr., who would give one million dollars to a chosen person every week, and then wanted to receive a report later, of what the person did with the million. Then the viewers of the program would watch eagerly to see if the person's life would be improved greatly, or if the person would have a negative experience.

I always liked to try and guess what was going to happen.  I also tried to imagine what I would do, if I might ever get the chance to get a gift like that.  My imagination could get pretty doggone crazy!

I remember thinking that one million dollars was an unbelievable amount of money back then, but to think about one million today, it doesn't have nearly the excitement it did in 1960, does it?  In today's world, a person could run through a million dollars easily, in a couple of hours, and not have that much to show for it, unless the person was being very wise and sensible, which, I guess, was a component of the show from the beginning.

Hey David,

I found another good reel of dance clips that are fun to watch.

It's on YouTube, and is called 'Footloose'--Dancing In The Movies

Would you show that one too?  It will get you toes a'tapping!

CBS (those scoundrels) Sunday Morning did a story today about ratification of Women's voting rights amendment....passed just weeks before the 1920 election.   One guy got a letter note from his mother and overnight changed his vote.

There were a lot of dissenters, including women, who were against it for various reasons.

I wonder how our grandparents stood?
