Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Well.   Lots of bull being spread in the news now.   Retaliation scares...how when...

We are getting 1500 cash out.   You never know about cyber.   Banks, insurance companies...even my internet poker and facebook gin.

Last night, after the President's press conference, the BBC and other news outlets covered the whole scenario from Tel Aviv live on TV.   As the announcers anticipated, an attack of missiles and drones took place.  During the announcer's report, phone alerts began going off all over the scene he was in, and he announced that this was normal in Tel Aviv over the past few weeks, and the alerts advised everyone to seek their civil defense bomb shelters and the like.   He explained how they enter the hotel's underground shelter and hide out.   Some missiles get through the Iron Dome and damage buildings.   I saw this morning the ruins of a senior citizens' apartment complex.   But, no injuries were announced despite the attack seeming to be one of the most intensive of this campaign.

We questioned where do we go?   I suspect it's not likely, but there are allies to Iran who have US striking capabilities.   We do not have a Houston Iron Dome.

I guess there should be a civil defense campaign, as we are way out of practice from our elementary school days.

We still only have a desk to get under, or a closet.

edit:   I found it interesting the the alerts they were all getting on their phones sounds like the same alarm or alerts we get all the time on our weather warning on TV, or for some lost senior or child in Seguin and a green Nissan Altima.

Well, I WAS going to address David's post regarding the 250th anniversary parade with a in depth explanation of my view on it but then.... I just can't keep up with the "every day is a new day" with new surprises to comment on... It is a whirlwind around this nation  these days...  ( might bring up parades , later).  SO here is today's thoughts in my little head.

Friday night for no reason I could think of  ,we lost power.  I quickly jumped to the conclusion that as a nation we were under attack.. but I was wrong.  BUT I started my checklist of preparedness : enough batteries, propane to cook outside with , solar lights garden lites  to bring in house at nite ... if need be.  Then I thought.. I give up , none of us have the capabilities to survive , really and truly.  I would die anyway without my thyroid medicine after 6 weeks without it. ( no thyroid) .. could kill pigs for their thyroid juice.  .

Then yesterday, I felt like I lived on Mars... the winds were like when I lived in Wyoming, 95 degrees with the lake/ ocean air drenched with water within every air molecule.  ... everthing in the garden was laying horizontal.

Then , surprise .....  last night.

All I hear in my head right now is  .... Que Sera Sera wink

Jan,

Coincidence!

Last night we watched Hitchcock's 1956 movie The Man Who Knew Too Much on Netflix. James Stewart and Doris Day. That is the movie that Que Sera, Sera is in, although I noticed in the credits that that isn't the actual name of the song. It is Whatever Will Be, but nobody knows it by that name.

About Democrat complaints that Trump's decision to bomb the Iranian nuclear sites was unconstitutional, they might want to remember Obama's decision to go into Libya, including with troops.

Here is Obama's address to the nation on March 28, 2011. Note that he didn't ask Congress for permission, but apparently informed Congressional leaders, Harry Reid (D), Senate Majority leader, and John Boehner (R), Speaker of the House.

It sounds like Trump also informed the current Majority Leader and Speaker, but they are both Republicans.

Yeah, it seems often some on the other side of the isle forget things that Democratic presidents did. Obama deported 3 million illegals when you count the turn aways at the border. Trump may have 200,000 ??. I don't recall ICE protests back then. Or anyone yelling Nazi or facist, either.

Sandra Spieker (Ringo)

Ron, and David,

Your comparison of the two presidents and their wielding of power is a bit like saying, one was really bad and the other is is also really bad but this bad is better than the other bad.

It's all bad.

Sandra,

Yeah, well, umm, well, umm -- Obama did it first!!!

Watching Dr. Strangelove. ($3.89 on Prime). Great satire and seems appropriate, given current circumstances. Peter Sellers and George C. Scott are great. Also, Slim Pickens.

I watched some of the game (we were entranced with TCM's Coalminer's Daughter, which is such a good film.)

I wonder what the outcome would have been if Haliburton (no relation to my 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Haliburton) had not gone down.   He was a big influence. Gilgeious-Alexander is a player worthy of my fandom.

It is the Government of the US and the immigration laws that dictate deportations.   Of course, the President's Office has an influence.   Whoever is POTUS just passes the task to their staff.

We haven't had an immigration law renewal in many years.

Foreigners are legal stepping onto our ports of entry and asking for asylum to enter the United States.  That is the law.

They are either admitted and set up with a court date or not.   If not, it is close to being illegal to refuse entry.

ICE guys have been arresting people walking out from their required court hearings and results.

Deportations have happened at different rates throughout our history.   Whether you believe it or not, it is sometimes hyped because of racial or cultural fears and ignorance.   Just review our immigration history and the news of the time.

The rate which Trump (his government) is deporting will more than likely end up being more the 1.5 milion over the next four years.

But, the thumping of the chest in a bragadocious manner not to be outdone by Elon Musk's chainsaw manner, doesn't make anyone more enamored of him.   I guess there are a few who rejoice at his antics.

I do not think ICE agents will detain any of thos 49 Anglo South African farmers when they go to their court dates for amnesty.   That's just a guess.

I could google it, but who is in charge of protecting the US from terror attacks as of now?

Also, I am not up to date on the issue of radioactivity.   However, my wife worked in imaging for the last 12 years as an RN.

Is there any radiation concern with the bombing of these sites?   Can anyone go in there and check out the damages without getting Rad poison?

I don't think this is too stupid of a question.   The Chronicle says no signs of radioactivity, but I am pretty sure they didn't get a Geiger counter down there.

David and all,  You are right , Obama did something similiar with a surprise attack...  I am wondering tho, when we poke a crazy power in the eye, are we able and ready to sustain the possible repercussion of it as a nation along with protecting it's citizens... who can't even live without airconditioning and have koolaid stands on the sides of streets with sprinklers spraying during the summer months?  I hope so...

Parades ... and the forest for the trees ..... need to say... alittle about it..since David brought up the subject a few posts ago.

When watching the preparations for the parade, I saw how enthusiastic some of the military were and it was sad to me... I was sorry it wasn't under better circumstances... in fact the Marine's 250 anniversary is coming up in November.

..However, CO.Rep Crow really said it best and so much better than I..  PLEASE watch . as I posted it otos in addressing kurt's parade thoughts , a week ago..   This guy should run for Pres... maybe ? I do like him.

I will say on my own that many at the  No kings marches , were also protesting  because we are losing our civil liberties , witnessing the diminishing of the separation of powers , watching the ignoring our our justice system's rules of law and the blatant disrespect and loss of our democracy; all within months of this new admistration.  It does look like the rise of a authoritarian regime following the guidelines of  project 2025.

I will also add that trump pardoned those at the Jan. 6th insurrection and they beat 140 police officers, one died on the scene and four or so died within days..   There were chants to hang Pence... and lure Nancy out of hiding.  Where was his respect for the military and his own Vice President?  Should Vance watch his back ?

I remember when Trump called Sen. McCain and the military ,"suckers and losers".  He once canceled a visit to the EU American military cemetary because it was raining...

I doubt the parade was truly about the 250th anniversary of the military..

Hey Y'all!

Did any of you hear over the weekend that Riley Gaines is now questioning the gender of Brittany Griner?

There have been reports that Ms. Griner was kept in male facilities in Russia when she was imprisoned there for a long number of months.  It appears the Russians felt the superstar was male, or maybe they were so confounded, they just didn't know for sure.

Strange report!

Ms. Gaines thinks there should be an investigation.  She is not happy to hear about what the Russians thought or knew.

Jan,

As I have said before, there is much to dislike about President Trump. But the claim that he called fallen soldiers "suckers and losers" has been vehemently denied by Trump. Others who were with him on that trip denied having heard it, including John Bolton, who was with Trump most of the time and who doesn't like him. No one has stepped forward to say that they heard such a statement -- just an anonymous "source", who could be a total liar, for all we know. Or, the "journalist" from The Atlantic, a strongly left-wing, Trump-hating magazine that published the piece, could have made it up.

There were lots of people in Trump 45 administration who were not loyalists and were part of what he calls the swamp. My guess is that, if the "quote" was given my anyone in the administration, it was intended to undermine him.

One other thing -- If Trump actually said "suckers and losers", which he vehemently denies, then he would know who he was with when he said it, and that person would know that Trump knows. If there were very few people with him, it would be easy for him to figure out who the "witness" was. How do you think that would play out? If there were numerous witnesses, someone else would have come forward to corroborate. It hasn't happened.

In my opinion, this sort of accusation that has no firm proof or witnesses is best left unsaid.

Where did you get your info of police officers dying on Jan, 6th? AOC posted a tweet on Oct 24, 2021 irroneously stating that almost 10 people died. NO police officers died that day. The 4 that died in later days and months were not as a result of " in the line of duty". Suicide was most common. Factcheck.org has bebunked AOC's claims. The 4 people who did die on Jan, 6th were Trump supporters. Two at the scene of heart failure (natural causes) ,one before the Capitol Building breech. It's the twisting of the truth confused as facts that keep us all in mistrust of each other. I know it can go both ways. I'm just asking you before you post, try to fact check yourself and like Sandra does- post your sources. It would be appreciated.

I try to find third party unbias reports to post here. As I stated before, I will not post a Fox News report or any ultra conservative publication, or if  I do I will give the source and you can take it for what it's worth.. And I try to fact check myself before I post.

I understand that there is real Trump hate out there and too often anyone who approves of the job he's doing, being on either side of the isle. I have experienced it here in Asheville first hand by me just talking in line at the pharmacy to a person wearing a Trump t-shirt. I was verbally assaulted in the parking lot by a deranged trans person. Ask Minnesota Democrat Hortman's family. How is Fetterman doing with the Democrats right now? Or anyone who voted Republican. Common sense seems to have vacated the far left reasoning, and in it's place is hate and emotion filled rant and rhetoric.

2026 is around the corner. Everyone get out and vote - LEGALLY.

Janalu

I have not heard any confirmation that Brittany Griner is 100% male. Have you seen the self made video of him/her shooting baskets around the pool shirtless? No female breasts seemed exposed to me. And of course, she spent time in a male Russian prison. Maybe they know something we don't?

and Ronnie, like you say, " agree to disagree." I bought AAA batteries today . Hot as the hinges of hell again , today .

Addendum.. MT Green, just tweeted this

I spent millions of my own money and TRAVELED THE ENTIRE COUNTRY campaigning for President Trump and his MAGA agenda and his promises. And Trump’s MAGA agenda included these key promises: NO MORE FOREIGN WARS. NO MORE REGIME CHANGE. WORLD PEACE. And THIS is what the people voted for. Only 6 months in and we are back into foreign wars, regime change, and world war 3. It feels like a complete bait and switch to please the neocons, warmongers, military industrial complex contracts, and neocon tv personalities that MAGA hates and who were NEVER TRUMPERS! After the bombs were dropped, we were told “complete success” and Iran’s nuclear capabilities were totally wiped out. Then it quickly turned to Iran’s nuclear facilities “partially damaged” and now it’s “we don’t know where their enriched uranium is.” Let me be very clear. My children are 22, 25, and 27. I will literally fight ANYONE for their future. And their future and their entire generation’s future MUST be free of America LAST foreign wars that provoke terrorists attacks on our homeland, military drafts, and NUCLEAR WAR. I am FIGHTING for them to have a future where they can afford to buy a home, afford insurance, invest for retirement, enjoy life, retain their God given freedoms, afford to raise a family under their Christian faith, not be in debt, safety and security, AND NOT HAVE OUR OWN TAX PAYER FUNDED GOVERNMENT DESTROY IT ALL. Contrary to brainwashed Democrat boomers think and protest about, Trump is not a king, MAGA is not a cult, and I can and DO have my own opinion.

I am sorry after this I will shut up.. but did you all know what else is in the bbbill...? A way to limit the judicial branch's powers..  google and read more about it.. One way to not have to just ignore the judicial branch rules and laws anymore.  Just get rid of the branch all together.. at some point... .

The "One Big Beautiful Bill" includes provisions that would limit judicial power, specifically by restricting courts' ability to issue preliminary injunctions blocking federal policies. One key aspect is a proposed bond requirement for plaintiffs seeking injunctions, potentially making it much harder for individuals and groups to challenge government actions in court.

MTG has a mind of her own and I would not like to be in her crosshairs for an attack. I've seen her get very emotional. I think most conservatives that I know don't have a problem to speak out against Trump on any issues if they feel strongly about them. If you recall I did not vote for him in 2016 nor Clinton. There are personality traits of his that I don't like, ie his brash New York ego attitude that rubs many the wrong way. But, he is not there to win a personality contest.

As far as the district federal judges that have been overstepping their jurisdiction to impose injunctions against the Executive Branch, I agree with Trump and so did the Supreme Court. But that hasn't stopped them from still filing the injunctions, despite what SCOTUS said. So I disagree with you on that one. It is just a ploy to slow Trump down. But, when challenged they mostly all get ruled in Trump's favor. To me it is a waste of taxpayer money to keep getting away with all of the frivolous filings.

Hot here in Asheville, 91 today. We usually only see about 4 or 5 days in the summer that are 90 or above. A/C today for sure!
