Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Hey Y'all!

How many times have you heard the word "gratuitous" this past weekend?  Do ya' think we are being gaslighted just a little bit?

HA!

Lowell,

The reason the Republicans refused the bill is that the bill DID NOT bring the illegal entry number well below 1,000, as Jeh Johnson, Obama's guy, recommended a long time ago.  AND......there were a number of points buried deep inside the bill, that CODIFIED issues that Republicans are against, such as beginning a pathway to citizenshiip for illegals, which is an issue Republicans want to hash-out in debate over the next years ahead.

It is my opinion that anytime Schumer is heading up the writing of bills, suspect that there will be issues hidden in the bill which are sneaky and NOT what Republicans are wanting.  We have learned that we can count on him to muck-up the whole shebang, and then snicker about it with his cohorts behind the scene.  He learned well from Harry Reid.

Lowell,

I didn't watch your video, but the reason that bill was not passed was that it was an awful bill institutionalizing our current Obama/Biden alien invasion with 1.8 million illegals allowed in ANNUALLY. AND we need to address OUR border problem before we worry about the wars that Biden's weakness caused and Trump's strength would not have (at least the Ukraine mess - the Muslims are as relentless as their kindred spirits, our Dem politicians). So if the 24/7-rotten Demonrats want a bill for those purposes, they should pass one or two, instead of trying to dupe their voters into thinking it's all the Republicans' fault.

Lady Lanajuju,

Yes, as always, you know that the corrupt legacy media's perpetual use of the same phrases/words for the same DUMB statements that that group-think produces, involves NO original thinking (nor any self-reflection either).

Like Twain said:

"If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man".

Thanks! And I often correct/improve my posts as I just did as well.

You betcha!

That MarkTwain quote is a dandy!  Ha!

Actually if you're wondering about that non-sequitur of a Twain statement, I just threw a favorite in there when I couldn't find his quote saying something like, when you find yourself agreeing with the majority of opinion, it's past time to review it.

Also here's a good Twain quote that expresses the difference between Trump and the Dem politicians/intelligentsia (a paper intelligentsia at most).

"It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not to deserve them."

Lady Lanajuju,

Schumer made 1600 on the SAT; he probably taught corrupt Harry Reid to be even more corrupt. That current slimeball Senator, as we both know as saved people, since he was given so much at birth and holds such a position of responsibility, will have TONS more than most sinners to answer for at the judgment seat before he's tossed into the nether world.

"But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." Luke 12:48 (NIV)

By the way, in the training sessions for the post office in the summer of 1970, we were told to watch our driving since, according to statistics, 3 of our fellow classmates there would be involved in an accident. Also we were requested to, if possible, hit that parked VW rather than the parked Cadillac. After that summer when Mercer and I were back at Austin College, he told me that he had been 1 of those 3 - BIG HAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!!

Marty,

I don't know about your other sports preferences, but the Mavericks just picked up 2 young, lean forwards that they DESPERATELY needed, and for almost nothing in return, in my view. So those 2 go with draft pick Lively, injured a lot this year but another athleticism-like-a-guard BiG (guy, even for the NBA) like the new pickup Gafford. I see the Mavs as actual title contenders now since they already have 2 of the greatest talents ever in the NBA in Doncic AND Kyrie. They wiped out Oklahoma City the other night by over 30 points at home. AND very-young OKC is a great team this year with only upside in their future IMHO.

Plus, like your (and my brother's) Mahomes, maybe we shouldn't ignore one Bruce Bochy & his team!

Don't follow pro hockey anymore.

Which leaves us with the Cowboys. NEVER MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MANY HAPPY RETURNS

By the grace of others here and for reasons not clearly understood, I’ve been reinstated with full privileges to rejoin and post with you my activities and remembrances of our RHS Class of 1969!

If indeed I’m returning by popular demand, the quote from another Sicilian godfather Michael Corleone comes to mind: "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!"

Oh well.

Prompted by Saturday’s query from Hollis OTOS…I thought I’d restart my posts here with a re-post below of my recent activities including my current interests that I find most interesting in the news.  While I have little interest in US political discussions lately, I do find geopolitics and the effects of de-globalization to be more fascinating these days.

Hollis,

As you may have gleaned from my years on the Forums, my daily stimulation comes from subject matter discussions like History, Technology, AI, the Arts, Faith, Truth…and integrating these things while parenting my son….you know unlike today’s politics…the virtuous things that really matter for living life to the full!

For examples, last month on our Austin trip to the Castilian Reunion with TT and the guys, I gave Christopher a tour of UT…including our dorm room, the campus 1883 history, plus “my history” there 55 years ago!

That same weekend in Galveston while boarding the newest Carnival ship Jubilee, we toured with some of its executive crew as their first GreenShip in the fleet powered by LNG…with a completely self-sustaining water and waste treatment plant!

Another example from my business networking last week, I met and introduced the CEO of e-Muscle Cars https://www.e-musclecars.com/,  (they are a start-up business in Denton that convert vintage muscle cars into EV cars), to a group of muscle cars owners in Dallas who are likely buyers & investors in the start-up!

Christopher now being 16 at RHS and a reluctant driver...he and I will tour this e-car production facility next week on Presidents Day.

Yesterday,  I dropped Christopher off with 1000 Middle & High School kids to have fun at EVO in Southlake  at Watermark DTown

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnK5G3C-_A4&t=5s

followed by an overnighter...talking about balancing digital life with cellphones and Jesus.

Hello kids…tap tap tap…can y’all hear Him now?

Anyways when it comes to direction, I keep my hands and heart full with raising a busy 16-year old teenager!

So glad to hear that you're enjoying your retirement while visiting places like MIA, and hopefully toured my fave Art Deco City by the beach!  I’ve never ever done the Everglades…did you see any pythons & gators & bears?…oh my!

So in conclusion Hollis,...sorry...I know you hate ending a post this way...I don’t really miss posting these days…life keeps me pleasantly and joyfully distracted elsewhere!

Hoping UdU 2,

L&c

PS - I'm betting the KC Swifts beat the 49ers by 7.

Subject: YOUNG MONK

A young monk arrives at the monastery. He is assigned to helping the other monks in copying the old canons and laws of the church by hand.

He notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not from the original manuscript. So, the new monk goes to the head to question this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, it would never be picked up! In fact, that error would be continued in all of the subsequent copies.

The head monk, says, 'We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a good point, my son.'

He goes down into the dark caves underneath the monastery — where the original manuscripts are held as archives in a locked vault that hasn't been opened for hundreds of years.

Hours go by and nobody sees the old Abbot . . .

So, the young monk gets worried and goes down to look for him. He sees him banging his head against the wall and wailing.

His forehead is all bloody and bruised and he is crying uncontrollably. The young monk asks the old Abbot, 'What's wrong, father?'

We missed the R !
We missed the R !
We missed the R !'

With a choking voice, the old Abbot replies, 'The word was...
'CELEBRATE !!!

Jimbo, I have no interest in basketball these days, and not since they relaxed the 'traveling' and 'carrying over' of the ball during handling.  All that accomplished was adding 15 or 20 points to each teams' score.

I watch some sports, usually golf, some football (mostly college), a few baseball playoff games, and occasionally, pro hockey.  When college players start getting paid, that's when I stop watching.  Even pro football is somewhat boring until the playoffs.  Now, it's all about the $$ and not much else.

Lance, you lost the bet against the Swifts.  All this nonsense regarding 'whos to blame' and the referees missed this call, and then, that call.  And then Taylor Swift - who cares?

History is repeating itself - The Gladiators provide the entertainment while Rome burns.......

Hey Jim,
By your rapscallion self-description these days, were you suggesting the Christian Life is for the birds...or as described by the Byrds?

Marty,

Marty,

Thanks for the biographical info. I certainly remember you as well as everybody else from our class. As I look at our yearbooks, I surprise myself at how I DON'T remember so many from the other grades' students (of course, that doesn't include attractive females). And you are one of the majority of fellow '69 Eagles that I can't remember ever having any interaction with. It appears you are a diverse sports fan. One of my old friends, not born again but still a great friend from working days and unlike myself, no longer watching the NFL, has now taken this approach to NFL games, "They can all take a #$$$@#$@@ knee for all I care". But PLEASE keep posting - I LOVE your sense of humor!!!!

Lance,

Very perspicacious observation on your part. The lyrics of the song "The Christian Life" by the Byrds, so intentionally derisive in its fake praise of your and my everyday existence, especially for someone like I who normally pays so little attention to lyrics, anyway those lyrics were immediately fun to me in my unsaved days. Now of course, they express truth. And then there was already that GREAT music that attracted me. You can click on a youtube link for that entire great Byrds album and listen to the consecutive plays of that outstanding album, which I am currently doing.

Lady Lanajuju,

By the way, I've already been labeled (lovingly by those beloved friends) by my small group in the non-Jewish church as "a troublemaker", and the lead (teaching) pastor heard that and offered, "Yes, he'll come up after the service and speak very seriously and then I get an unexpected zinger at the end". This is the same pastor whom I told that I was going to steal his in-shape & shapely 80-year-old mother from her 2nd husband! hahahahahha!!!!

This born again pastor told me the same thing you said about me. He said that it's almost always something different from me so he never knows what he's going to hear. But he has a GREAT sense of humor and we have had a TON of fun together.

All,

Now as we have already reached the equivalent "The Caine Mutiny" observation-deck scene where Captain Queeg needed to be relieved of command..............................

Totally related to that of course is that character in John Huston's 1956 movie version with Gregory Peck as Captain Ahab of "Moby Dick", Mulvihill's namesake. I'm talking about the fully-tattooed, savage deckhand Queequeg. The actor who portrayed Queequeg is actually a member of European nobility!!!! Who woulda thought? One Friedrich von Ledebur (1900-86 - he died on XMAS day on Karl Rove's 36th birthday), my 18th cousin, 2 times (generations) removed.

Here he is:

Friedrich von Ledebur - Wikipedia

David C,

THANK YOU for not kicking me off and instead re-instating Lance. YEE HAW & BIG HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

Our nation now spends a BILLION dollars a day on the interest for our national 34 trillion dollar debt. Soon we will be paying more for our debt interest than all our national defense. It's called robbing from our grandchildren. I pray more Americans will FINALLY realize that this CANNOT continue.

50% of the country thinks California is in decline (duh).

86% of the country thnks Biden is unfit to continue as President - should be 100.

As always, thanks Dems.

However I made a mistake. The top 10 worst Presidents ever are not all Dems. Nixon also belongs on that list - although his attempts to insure his reelection via Watergate etc. pale in comparison to this HORRIFIC attempt by Obama & Soros to "transform" our beloved country into this emerging neoMarxist tyranny that all have the opportunity to see.

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

Jim,

I agree that Obama's vision to "fundamentally transform" this country into his warped (in my opinion) vision is not what the majority of Americans actually want, despite what his vision bespeaks.  He grew up in Indonesia and Hawaii, which are areas of the world NOT like the mainland America most of us experienced, as we grew and evolved in our culture's rich heritage and blended 'melting pot' aura of assimilated peoples.  He had Marxist parents and grandparents quite unlike the Christian parents most of us had, having been raised for the largest part of his life, as a singular child.  He lived with a younger half-sister for a short period of his life, but once he moved to Hawaii to be with his grandparents, he was the only child in the home.  I have not heard that he was in Boy Scouts, or in the YMCA (or similar programs) or US public schools, and he didn't participate in church activities, or music programs like many of us did.  His grandfather introduced him to a questionable Marxist man, Frank Marshall Davis, that the grandfather felt could be a mentor and character model.  Seems to me he lived a different kind of childhood experience, compared to us, as we lived in a conservative, bedroom community north of Big D: a life similar to other US mainland neighborhoods.  I think Obama feels that our country should be as Europe is these days.  He thinks the US is too imperialistic, wielding too much superior-appearing power over other countries of the world.  I'm not too sure that he even admires our capitalist economy; capitalism being the main route out of poverty.  I would say he doesn't have love of our country, as compared to the love we have developed over our many years of living the mainland life experience.  Even though he is half Anglo-Saxon and half Black man, he sees himself as Black.  It appears that he takes on the similar identity of other Blacks in our country, those who descended from slave heritage, yet his heritage is not from slavery.  He speaks as a Caucasian speaks, without a Black dialect.  He nevertheless appears to want to endure that chip-on-the-shoulder, slave descendant type of phenomenon, as do descended Blacks of America. It appears to project a way of embracing the same mindset many American Blacks endure, to their detriment much of the time. Charles Krauthammer called him arrogant and  narcissistic.

This is my opinion.  I'd like to hear the opinions of others.  I'm sure our forum readers have thought about this subject just as I have.

Lady Lanajuju,

Thanks, as always with you. Obama is first and foremost a Marxist. And then he has all those inane biases I listed before. The coming election really is, I believe, our last chance to save ourselves from the end of our nation, assuming we even have another election (or football season for that matter).

From Texas Parks & Wildlife mag

"We had a report, a phone call, from a visitor who said there was an alligator in thr restroom. I said 'Oh boy, let's get it out of there.' He said it was a small one, a baby, but we nee to get it out. We go there,  and we've got three guys with gloves, we've got grabbers and buckets and stuff like that. We show up to get the gator, and I say "Where's the gator?' He says , "its right there.'  It was a gecho.' He said "No, that's a baby gator.' I said 'No, these guys get in the bathroom sometimes. I think everyone's going to be fine.:
