Sweet Sandra,
Laughed reading how you’ve given up sugar, alcohol…all the fun stuff. I know how you feel. Some time ago I decided “this is it. I’m done.” Miraculously (!) I’ve survived without sugar; white flour, meat and processed food. (RJ swears I eat like a small squirrel). Fortunately, I never had an infinity for alcohol, but most all of my friends do so we take turns buying the wine (myself included) and I'm perfectly happy with a bottle of sparkling water. We’ll figure out a time a place to meet and have fun, sans alcohol.
Oh this thing called "aging." All the desultory things we’re supposed to do. Wouldn’t it be funny (or not) if long after we’re gone medical researchers say “uh-oh. So sorry. We were wrong. We’ve learned there was no need to give up sugar. No need for exercise. (All the time I wasted. All the Skittles, Milk-Duds, Junior Mints I gave up).
These days , some days every day I hate working out. But I do it. As with every single- solitary-freaking- day of my adult life, like Pavlov’s dog, I lace up my Nikes and con myself into believing “Why, I love running! Weight training is SO much fun! Every single-single-solitary-freaking day I tell myself “What a beautiful day! I can’t wait to do all those push-ups and sit-ups! Yet more than once it’s occurred to me “is it really worth it? “
I mean, what if, at the end of my life I end up on a cold aluminum table where the medical examiner looks down at my body saying. “Well lookie here! The old bat was in incredible shape! Pity she slipped on a fallen fabric softening sheet and bonked her head.” Adjusting her glasses, the assisting examiner points towards my lower face and in a distinctly condescending voice says “smh …and look at this! All that money spent on "Hourglass Volumizing Lip Gloss" when any fool would have known known "Maybelline’s " just as good!”
Oh how insanely unpredictable our lives. No matter how hard we try “it’s always something.” Someone's always whinging. I rarely log onto the forum. Just lack of time. But I remain committed to catching up via text, email or face-to-face-with you, sweet Sandra-- at the top of my list. Love to all.
