Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Wayne, I commend your letter as easy to read...Good job.

Edit.   Upon reflectin, I think my compliment may be a little ironic, in that my own spelling/grammar/and sentence struction has a history of lacking.

Tommy,

War?  What is it good for?

We all know that war is good for nothing,

No argument there.

But why do we have guns in this country?

No argument there, either.

We are allowed to have guns because our Founding Fathers KNEW what it was like to NOT HAVE THEM since they came from English and European countries where THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY WAY TO STAVE OFF THEIR TYRANNICAL RULERS WHO FORCED THEM TO LIVE LIVES WITHOUT THE FREEDOM THEY DESIRED.

You know this, Tommy.  You are a well-educated man of high achievement.

You need to ask of Wayne, a different question, perhaps.

And Wayne, you don't need me to answer for you, I know.  It's just that Tommy raises my ire when he needles you with nonsense, just because you are a gun enthusiast, and you have respect for our law enforcement officers; officers who have human flaws and are not perfect.

Tommy, I took your post as a complement.

Correction Janalu

Hunting is a valuable part of wildlife management. Guns in the hands of law abiding citizens do help make us saffer.  You can look at Mexico where guns are heavly restricted.  The cartels have all of the guns and are very dangerous as well as in Hati.  You have gangs terrizing the citizens and keeping te government out.

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

Tommy,

I apologize for my ire toward you.

I'm glad to say you can be a gentleman at times.  Thanks for those times.

I admit I barely skimmed the post, as I have little interest in discussions about the police these days.

I have asked for forgiveness.  That makes one more time today.

I am guilty of exhibiting miscreant behavior, when it comes to speaking about something of which you are ill-informed.

I've included the previous comment because I wanted to use the word, 'miscreant.'

Interesting word, don'tcha think?

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

Wayne,

A couple of the candidates who spoke on Wednesday night's debate, said they were thinking that maybe the US should unite with the Mexican police forces, to try to stop cartels from their nefarious activities against our country.

Do you think that would be possible since we know that some of the Mexican police, as well as Mexico's president, is "in bed" with the cartels, receiving kick-back funds?  Those police have sold their souls to the  devil, seems to me, and they fear for their lives and their family members' lives.

Thanks Tommy for that wonderful TED talk video.  I have done this dialectic process with the two chairs  too and found it to be very healing.  It is amazing what the human being can survive and what we can be healed of if we are willing.

If you ever suspect that you are getting a bit full of yourself, watch the Jeopardy Tournament of Champions this week.

08/30/23 01:38 PM #27995

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

That's the truth, David!

You figure that if they are giving you the answers, so that all you have to do is state the question, you  think, "Hey!  What's so difficult about that?"

Well, you find out really quickly, don't you?

And then you think, "Well shoot-fire!  I should have known that!"

David C/Lady Lanajuju,

I won't be watching the Jeopardy champions, specifically for the reason you mentioned, but in spite of all my endless qualities, I think my most outstanding one has to be my unparalleled humility. YEE HAW!!!!!

I just got this e-mail from " Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation"  Great story out of Erath County and koodos for the Game Warder

"Texas Game Wardens are called upon all hours of the day and night to serve their communities. Not only do they enforce Texas hunting, fishing and boating safety laws, they are also force multipliers for local law enforcement agencies, especially in rural areas.

Texas Game Warden Michael Hummert is stationed in Erath County and is always ready to help his fellow citizens. He is a certified drone operator, and just days after receiving a thermal drone through Gear Up for Game Wardens, he got a call asking for assistance in locating a 90-year-old man with dementia who had been missing for hours.

“I loaded up, got to the scene, and got the drone up as quick as I could,” recalled Hummert. “We found him in 71 seconds. He was crouched down in a steep embankment next to a major highway. He got checked out by EMS and was released back to his family that night.”

This opinion piece from the Washington Times is consistent with what I have been saying.

Newsom will be 2024 Democratic presidential nominee

Weak as he is, California governor could be his party’s best shot

By Joseph Curl

If you’ve got $1,000 lying around, I’ve got a tip for how you can turn that into $7,000: Bet on Gavin Newsom to be the 2024 Democratic nominee for president. The California governor’s odds right now are +600, but they’ll be dropping fast after Labor Day, and especially early next year when President Biden announces he’s not going to run for reelection. So many signs point to Mr. Biden bailing — including the fact that when Americans hear the president’s name, they think “old,” “outdated,” “retire,” “elderly,” “aging,” “senile” and “dementia,” according to an Associated Press poll released Tuesday.

Please. He can’t go. First, Mr. Biden’s got no campaign up and running. In this day and age, candidates start running the day after Election Day (albeit quietly, lining up donors, building an operation). There are just over 400 days until Election Day 2024, and Mr. Biden has hardly built a team. A skeleton crew of campaign staffers is working in Mr. Biden’s home state of Delaware, but there is next to no operation in early voting states like Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

“As of last quarter, he had just four people on the payroll, all working out of the party offices,” Fox News reported.

What’s more, his team hasn’t even announced a 2024 headquarters. Weird — and unprecedented.

Second, Mr. Biden’s deep-pocketed donors from 2020 aren’t necessarily backing him in ’24. Sure, he can be the nominee if he likes — and the Democratic National Committee has already announced that it won’t hold debates this time around — but that doesn’t mean the cash will just pour in.

Earlier this month, Politico headlined a piece: “‘Whistling past the graveyard’: Dem fear grows over massive grassroots fundraising hit.” Mr. Biden is down $30 million compared with this point in the 2020 cycle, and contributors are down 32% from four years ago.

Which takes us to No. 3, the “enthusiasm gap.” “No matter what the White House wants to say, you take a survey and a huge plurality of Democratic voters don’t even want him to run again,” a national Democratic strategist who was “granted anonymity to speak frankly” told Politico. “There’s really an enthusiasm gap that I think is their central challenge.”

Mr. Biden is a hard sell. America’s going to hell in a handbasket — soaring inflation, unaffordable housing, escalating crime, rampant drug abuse and overdose deaths, a mental health epidemic, a student loan crisis, skyrocketing federal debt (it rises $1 million every 24 seconds), an absurdly expensive health care system, wealth inequality, a crumbling infrastructure, illegal immigrants storming across the border, unrestrained price gouging, mounting poverty and homelessness — and Mr. Biden is busy falling down a lot.

Who’s jazzed about this guy? Then there’s No. 4. Unlike his former boss, former President Barack Obama, Mr. Biden has scandals galore.

He’s got his son Hunter, the recovering drug addict with ties to corruption in Ukraine. He’s got a slew of classified documents found — well, all over — and this week, it emerged that the National Archives and Records Administration is in possession of nearly 5,400 emails, electronic records and documents that potentially show Mr. Biden using a pseudonym during his vice presidency. That can’t be good.

Back to Gavin. He’s 55 — not 80 — and viewed as a wannabe setting up a 2028 run, but then, he is set to debate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is busy running for the Republican nomination.

“Absolutely. I’m game. Let’s get it done. Just tell me when and where. We’ll do it,” Mr. DeSantis told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

No date has been set, but it could be in the second week of November.

Over to Vice President Kamala Harris. She can’t run. At one point this year, she was less popular than the everunpopular Vice President Dick Cheney. Ms. Harris has been hovering in the low 30s, and that doesn’t put you in the White House.

The Democrats this time around have a very thin bench, and Mr. Newsom — weak as he is — could be the party’s best shot.

But let’s be clear: Mr. Biden won’t go in ‘24. He can’t. He’s not even bothering to make it look like he’s going. And frankly, he hates Kamala. My guess is he’s already made a deal with Mr. Newsom to run in his place, damn Ms. Harris.

And that’ll set up a fantastic race: the way California does things versus the way Florida does things.

That won’t be pretty. But it will set up a very stark choice.

On July 14 I posted a few thoughts about immigration. Here is another issue.

With regard to Ukraine, I favor supplying as much hardware and training to Ukraine as necessary to remove Russia from all parts of Ukraine. I realize that Ukraine is a long way from the USA and that Europeans should pull their weight, but I view Ukraine as doing the heavy lifting to damage Russia's military power and reputaton and to foment dissatisfaction in Russia. To stand by while Russia absorbs Ukraine is not unlike allowing Hitler to absorb Czechoslovakia in 1939 with impunity.

I also believe that the Biden Administration failed to provide support early enough, impeding Ukraine's ability to repel Russia and resulting in more death and destruction.

By the way, I saw a movie last night that surprised me a little. Berlin Express was a post-war story of intrigue starring Robert Ryan and Merle Oberon. It was filmed in 1948 in seven weeks in Paris, Berlin and Frankfurt (the latter two with required permission of the American, Russian and English authorities) and it showed a lot of the damage from the war, expecially in Frankfurt. It was the first American feature film to be filmed in Europe after the war.

Anyway, if you have a cable or streaming service that includes TCM, you can access TCM's own streaming service free, including Berlin Express. I watch through Roku and through my laptop. The TCM service allows you to see scores of old movies at your leisure rather than on the TCM broadcast schedule. They rotate the offerings so it is worthwhile to check the site regularly if you like old movies.

Gil Brandt.   I used to say hi to him when our office was at 6116 N Central #607.   There was a snack gift shop in the lobby manned by (I think) Sam.   I went there often for daily needs and stops and befriended Sam.  Gil Brandt was often there.   He remembered my Dad from when they were in the same building from 60 to 70 at the AAA building at 4425 N Central owned by the Swalwell's (of Highland Park.)  We spoke a few times.   Of course, I was a big Cowboys fan in those days.

His connection on Twitter was the only person I ever followed on Twitter (X.)   Pretty amazing guy.

What a collection of players he was connected to.   From Chuck Howley to Cornell Green.   Man, that Cornell Green.   I remember his as a cornerback...but he excelled as a Safety also.   6' 3'' and it lists him as 208 in Wikipedia...but, my memory is that he was much larger.

Anyway, Brandt put together some historical lineups and pretty much revolutionized the NFL draft process.

His wife said he had a good life.   That's pretty understate...

David,

Another good film is "The Big Lift" with Montgomery Cliff.  It is about the Berlin Air Lift and is from 1950,  Shows a lot of Berlin and the distruction and the interaction between the various sections.  It is available on You Tube from various sources.  It revolves around and US air crew and Montgomery Cliff fall in love with a Berlin woman.

Hey David C - I agree with most of your observations, however most of the pollsters/Vegas oddsmakers favor Biden.  Remember Crooked Hillary?  She has not been prosecuted, not even a hand-slap.  She damn near won the Presidency despite the fact that her hubby was Impeached as President.  The FBI and the DOJ have been dragging their feet providing information so that we can get a clearer picture of the Biden family mis-deeds.  Expect more of the same right up to election day next year - result: No harm No foul.

Also consider that Biden WILL NOT participate in a one-on-one debate with ANY GOP nominee, especially Trump.  Because Slow Joe will get shredded.  Newsome would most likely agree to a debate with Trump, but he would likewise fall on his face, for numerous reasons (mostly Failed California Policies). Another reason is that - you seem to have forgotten - Dimorats will get 40% of the vote for ANY NOMINEE.  Remember when Trump said he was going to 'drain the swamp'?  Most anyone with a (Federal) gov't job took that to mean - 'Gee I could lose my gravy job and pension'.  It's the Independents that will sway the election.  Which reminds me - how is the DNC going to get voting rights for the 6 to 8 million recent migrants?  That will be a real head-shaker....

Cannot recall if I mentioned it on your wonderful Forum, but how about this nominee:  MICHELLE OBAMA?  Think about it - 8 more years of BARACK,  Last year, a local vendor friend said he put down $100 on M Obama on some sort of betting site - I can find out.  The odds at that time were 40 : 1.  The same betting line today is less than 10 : 1.  Now, that is SCARY.

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

I was listening tonight to one TV show, where Newt Gingrich was asked who he thought was calling the shots in  DC right now, as he observes, along with the rest of us, the abundantly clear notion that Joe is out-to-lunch or to Baskin-Robbins most of the time, incapable of  following a logical line of reasoning for more than fifteen seconds.  Newt answered quickly that he thinks Obama is the number one guy at the helm, having witnessed that Biden brought back most of the old Obama staff, as soon as he could get them back to their old stomping ground. (They were making no pretense of their shenanigans, were they?)  As was expected, the plan was set in motion before Biden was even inaugurated, with Obama and Michelle remaining in DC sans daughters, who were both off to college.  Most presidents leave DC after office, going to one of their homes, usually, where they enjoy a more leisurely lifestyle outside of the DC hustle and bustle.  Not so for the Obamas, who had a profound legacy to repair immediately, after Trump left office!  Many could deduce what the plan was all along, and the DNC team was gleefully IN on it too, as we suspected they would be.

And, Marty, you ask, "How will the Dems be able to have the illegals voting before long?"

Well, you can bet your bottom dollar that they will find a way, even if it involves skirting the law, as we have seen them doing, blatantly, in recent times, on many different issues.  Most of them have little respect for our Constitution anymore.  They lust for absolute power, and they intend to be the only party of our nation.

Independents?  They can, and will, sway the election, one way or the other this immediate time at hand, but I predict the Dems will consume the largest number of them, in due course, with only a few left to dangle in the wind.

We are being forced to be a Socialist society, and even Marxist in some ways.  We are allowing the killing of innocent preborn infants, for the sake of convenience of the mother, ( a few exceptions are allowed).... not unlike the Nazis' killing of innocents, for their own convenience in their society, as they desired to be rid of pesky, annoying vermin.  That's just one example of what we are becoming, for starters, with Democrats taking over as absolutists, i.e. Harry Reid, Pelosi, Kamala Harris, Schumer, and very likely Hakeem Jeffries, to name just a few.

Yes......just MY opinion.

And you are welcome to tell us of YOUR opinion.

Please do!  Should be interesting!

Tommy told me, one time on this Forum, that I was too judgmental.  I thought about that for a while, then thought to myself, that HE was judgmental of me to come to that conclusion. Was he too judgmental?

Well Tommy, I'm opinionated too!   And.....I talk too much on this Forum!  David allows too much of me, I fear. The sword of Damocles maybe swinging ever so close to my noggin'.  Tommy, I'm sure is watching closely, eh Tom?   Watching and waiting for me to loop my own noose, right?  Ha, ha!

My prediction.   Paxton aquitted.  Dan Patrick is the trial judge.   So, aquitted unless Patrick can somehow figure out a way to have Paxton found guilty without Patrick being blamed.   I don't think that can happen.   Patrick is not a lawyer and has never been a judge, so, a judge has been appointed to advise Patrick.

Actually, the judge appointed (hired) is a second choice.   The first choice recused himself.  Reason, he donated $250.00 (lol) to Paxton's campaign.   That's compared to millions donated to Paxton.   In fact, Patrick's campaign donated 250,000.00 to Paxton's last re election campaign and apparently forgave a loan of 125,000.

2/3rd's majority for conviction required of 30 Senators.   There are 12 Democrats, so 9 Republicans are required to vote for conviction if all Dem's vote together.

Any GOPer who votes for conviction may have the ire of Trump's base throw big bucks against their next election primary.

So, basically, Paxton will be aquitted.

Then, who will run for Gov?   Paxton?   Patrick?  That will be a very good sideshow...

But, from what I can remember of Texas politics over the years, Lt. Gov. has more power than Gov.

09/01/23 02:04 PM #28006

Wayne Gary

Lowell,

I hope you are wrong.  The first judge and his wife donated $250.00 to Paxton's opponent election not to Paxton. I hope Paxton is convicted.

Robert (Bob) Miller

From the songbook -- To the tune of THE YEAR OF THE CAT

The Year of the Mask by Bob Miller copyright 2023

On a morning in a market in Wuhan

In a country where they turn back time

Strolling through the stalls like a man without a plan

A witness to a crime

Someone will get splattered with a droplet

Don’t bother with the In reasons why it happened

It’s just a way of life in the city

It will be the way it started

The year of the mask

There is no time for studied questions

Answers wouldn’t come anyway

The sense of it has no reflections

But all of us will pay

It builds and builds and builds to a crescendo

Doctors in the hospitals feed the morgues

Bodies pile in the hallways

Getting buried is your reward

In the year of the mask

As we self-shelter in our homes alone

Or we venture out for toilet tissue

The dangers faced cannot be overblown

Do your best to go along to get along

In the year of the mask

Well morning comes and you’re still here

And old ones and the ill have all gone

But there’s no reason for some and not the other

You stay and get along

But the virus strains of the disease remain

And we need faith in the god above

The rest used the vaccine and resumed

To live and love

In the year of the mask

In the year of the mask
