Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Biden voters - are you seeing television coverage on your preferred TV outlets that shows what's happening at the border?

David,

Yes, I watched the TV this morning.  I heard the thunder last night too.  Yes, there are people sleeping on the streets of El Paso.  Yes, Title 42 has expired and a new edict has been established.  It will take longer for those to apply for asylum.  Anyone now applying must first establish asylum in the country from which they last traveled to before applying here.  It will take much longer to establish asylum.  Asylum is legal and always has been.  Congress, all sides of Congress, must get together and agree on better immigration laws.  Why they haven't is the big question.  My guess is because it is better to point fingers and blame and stir unrest and dissatisfaction with voters and scare them than solve the problem.  It is how this deadlocked mess has been established and will continue until the voters wake up and demand change now.

David and others.

Those interested in WW ll history will find this interesting and some what funny. I found this article in Texas State Historical Assn. website about POWs in Texas.  Some were at White Rock Lake CCCS camp.

Wayne, sort of funny article in the Chronicle sports section this morning on the Aggies.

Story headline is, "Fisher hard to beat, in "talkin" season."

It is going to be great to see UT compete in the SEC.   Especially in tennis, swimming, and track and field.

I know there are lots of people who need asylum and want to come here and I am all for that. However, I think that until they are able to be vetted COMPLETELY, they should stay outside our borders. We shouldn't have to pay for their total family support (lodging, food etc.) . There should be a way for them to enter the 'asylum program' and then just wait outside the border until their case can be heard.

Why do we make it easy to cross the border and have us take care of them until their case is heard?

Very simplistic example:
Even if I'm going to a concert, there is a place for people to be if they have a ticket, and a place to be for people who need a ticket. Nobody can get in at all untill a certain time and they can only get in, if they have a ticket. All these places are outside the seated portion of the venu.

Is it just me who thinks this way?

About limiting 18-220 year olds from buying certain guns has been delt a third blow in Federal courts

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A federal judge in Virginia has ruled that a law banning licensed federal firearms dealers from selling handguns to young adults under 21 violates the Second Amendment and is unconstitutional.

The ruling Wednesday by U.S. District Court Judge Robert Payne in Richmond, if not overturned, would allow dealers to sell handguns to 18- to 20-year-olds.

In his 71-page ruling, Payne wrote that many of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship are granted at the age of 18, including the right to vote, enlist in the military without parental permission and serve on a federal jury.

“If the Court were to exclude 18-to-20-year-olds from the Second Amendment's protection, it would impose limitations on the Second Amendment that do not exist with other constitutional guarantees,” Payne wrote. ...Further citing

A federal judge recently cited the high court decision in ruling against a Minnesota law prohibiting 18- to 20-year-olds from getting permits to carry handguns in public. A judge struck down a similar law last year on gun restrictions for young adults in Texas.

Bob "Willard" Henke, guitarist & keyboards player for Goose Creek Symphony died this year (4/29/1951 - 2/3/2023), our contemporary. I have their first 2 albums that I liked a lot, "Established 1970" and "Welcome to Goose Creek". He also played with Dr. Hook, Glen Campbell and others.

Willie Nelson, now 90 years old as of April 29, has stated that his drinking and smoking days are over. He has been quoted as saying that he drank a lot before he started smoking weed in adulthood. Also I read once that he chose pot over cigarettes so that was good too. While I wouldn't recommend that anybody smoke weed (although I suppose there are medicinal uses to THC/weed?), it should never have been illegal since alcohol is far worse since booze, unlike weed, kills brain cells, is physically addictive, and you really shouldn't drive after drinking. While, yes, weed negatively affects your short-term memory (restored gradually as you quit using it), makes you grouchier, and it's still putting smoke (and heat) into your lungs, never a good thing, it's still better to have that habit rather than alcohol or tobacco (I think tobacco smoke is worse for your lungs than pot smoke).

Anyway Willie had to quit smoking weed some years ago; he had lung problems that he was able to take care of surgically apparently. So then he vaped. And finally he was consuming THC edibles. But now allegedly he must be clean and sober.

Of course the Bible as always puts things in their proper perspective. "....use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments." (1 Timothy 5:23 ESV). So it aids digestion and has other uses.

And also "Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart." (2 Timothy 2:22 KJV)

Plus "And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18 ESV)

"Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." (1 Peter 5:8 ESV)

Finally, for the saved/born again people: "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV)

Sandra;

Some time ago I had lunch with a formrer student of mine that deals with immigration law some.  He basically said the current system is effective if the authorties would just enforce the laws and procedures that are in place.

Sandra,

If Danny needs pain relief and MJ ediiables helped he could try the non THC hemp  and CBD (canibus oi)l products which are legal.

Wayne,

We are familiar with CBD oil and edibles.  When Danny was in chronic pain, CBD did nothing.  Nice thought though, I appreciate it.

David,

Fun family facts.

Both of my parents went to Texas A&Ms North Texas Agriculture College in Arlington (now UTA). My dad then went to A&M and my mother went to tu Austin. My mother never talked about Austin and when my older brother went to A&M she was an Aggie mom.

Hull,

Thanks for the sincere sentiment.  It is appreciated.

A short story of pain killers or anything associated with getting rid of discomfort....and the current laws in Texas....

Danny went to see his back doctor last week to get a refill on some muscle relaxant that he has been using for a few years.  It helps when his back cramps and he only uses it at night to help him sleep, usually three or four nights a week, depending upon his level of activity.  He used it more when he was going to physical therapy for his heart surgery recovery, which lasted three months.  I repeat he has been using this same drug for years without side effects.  The doctor cheerfully refilled the script.  So we went home happy and next day went to the pharmacy to pick it up.  They told us (the lady at the register) that the doctor never called it in.  Heads up - this was a lie.  The doctor did in fact call it in as we learned later.  Keep in mind, Danny had heart valve replacement surgery in early Dec and an infection of the valve which he miraculously recovered from and the hospital and three different Cardiac doctors and the infection disease doc all approved of this muscle relaxer, yet as we learned from three phone calls to said parties involved...the pharmacist refused to fill it.  Liability issues.  He was told it would affect his heart rate.  The pharmacist overroad the doctor's orders after talking with him and wanted to fill it with a new relaxant.  We looked them both up.  Both have the same warnings.  Only difference is the old one we know has no side affects, we don't know what the new one will do to him.

So Danny had what I call, "A come to Jesus meeting" with the pharmacist.  He told him he did not appreciate him going behind his back to talk to the doctor without consulting with him, the patient, first.  Meanwhile it has been a week since he ran out of said medication.  The pharmacist apologized and told him he would contact his heart doctor.  That was Friday, doctor office was closed.  Oh another thing, our insurance refused to pay for the subsitute relaxer.  So Danny refused it too.  As for liability, Danny pointed out that according to Drugs.com he should not be taking two drugs together to control his heart rate (Sotolol and metropol)  but the doctor also prescribed that (two did in fact).

My point of this tale of woe is to point out that in Texas it is legal for the pharmacy to refuse to fill any medication and recommend their choice instead.  In other words, without any knowledge of medical history, or conversations paitients have had with their doctors they can do this.  Pharmacists can now play doctor.

So we wait, till Monday, and go without and hope common sense prevails.

Wayne,

I think you misread Tommy's post.  A Painted Bunting is a variety of bird, like Mockingbird, or Blue Jay.  Painted Buntings are native to North Texas.  We see them from time to time here in Weatherford.  They are quick little creatures and when you do spot them it is a flash of bright color then they are gone.  It is rare to catch them perched for very long.  When you do, they are amazing!!!

I think Tommy does appreciate live natural surroundings and wildlife to a painting.  Although a great painting, even one not very colorful can take your breath away too.  Van Gogh, Mattisse, Rembrandt.....I seen all live and they take my breath away too!

Susie and I went to the traveling Van Gogh experience, and it was truly magnificent.   They had a room the size of our RHS gym lit up on the walls floors and ceiling with laser art of all Van Gogh's paintings.

Also, at the end, you could rent a virtual reality set of goggles which was programed to take a walk through the town of Saint-Remi (I think) which as you approached a scene he had painted, the VR walk stopped and displayed the scene which inspried his painting.

The VR rental was an extra 5.00 and I did it but Susie did not as she is motion sickness challenged.   It was all well worth it.

David responds:

I don't have a problem with a pharmacist refusing to fill a prescription. There are other pharmacists. But I'm not sure I understand the "recommend" part. Recommending, by itself, a different medication doesn't bother me. I think pharmacists who are aware of the meds you are taking may be able to spot potential issues. Note that many people of a certain age are getting prescriptions from more than one doctor, and one doctor may not be aware of what the other one has prescribed. The pharmacist might catch potential interactions.

But are you saying that a pharmacist can substitute a medication for one that was prescribed by a doctor? I thought pharmacists had to have doctor's permission even to substitute a generic.

David,

The pharmacist substituted the original drug, which Danny has used for years with no side affects, for a new drug with the exact same warnings, without consulting the doctor, yes.  Danny won't take the new drug for fear of side affects since he knows the one he was prescribed by his doctor has no side affects.  He is not willing to gamble taking the new drug,.  In addition, the "new" drug is not covered by insurance.  The reason is "liability".

Yes, pharmacists in Texas can now refused to fill drugs.  I think this has to do with abortion pills etc.  It is now spilling over to just about anything.   Sigh.

Tommy,

I have been to that exact exhibit in DC and saw the Van Gogh, and many more amazing works of art.  It was a long walk and a long day but so worth it!  I have been to the Rijks Museum in Amsterdam too.  The Night Watch was spectacular!  I want to go to Italy some day.....and France....
