Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Mr. Washington goes to Smithereens - wonder if he's gay or transgender? He's obviously unqualified since he only has one box checked in Dems' lame minds. Finally, no, I will NOT be flying anytime soon, especially with all the reports of the many more plane near-misses occurring now:

Why do they call it near-misses?

It's actually near-collisions. Of course they were near and they did miss each other.

These sayings purportedly came from the late Andy Rooney.

I've learned.....
That being kind is more important than being right.

I've learned.....
That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I've learned.....
That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.

I've learned.....
That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.

I've learned.....
That when you're in love, it shows.

I've learned.....
That money doesn't buy class.

I've learned.....
That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!' makes my day.

I've learned.....
That you should never say no to a gift from a child.

I've learned.....
That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in any other way.

I've learned.....
That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.

I've learned.....
That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.

I've learned.....
That a simple walk with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult.

I've learned.....
That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

I've learned.....
That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

I've learned....
That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

I've learned.....
That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.

I've learned.....
That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.

I've learned.....
That love, not time, heals all wounds.

I've learned.....
That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

I've learned.....
That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.

I've learned.....
That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

I've learned.....
That life is tough, but I'm tougher.

I've learned.....
That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you missed.

I've learned.....
That I wish I could have told my Mom that I love her one more time before she passed away.

I've learned.....
That one should keep his words both soft and tender because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

I've learned.....
That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

I've learned.....
That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, you're hooked for life.

I've learned.....
That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.

I've learned.....
That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.

To all of you..... Be safe and enjoy living your life with love and happiness for everyone...

Forwarded to me by a classmate.

I don’t know if this is true, but if it isn’t, it should be. DMC

Two Choices

What would you do? You make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves children with learning disabilities, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question:

'When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does, is done with perfection.   Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do.  Where is the natural order of things in my son?'

The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued. 'I believe that when a child like Shay, who was mentally and physically disabled comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.'

Then he told the following story:

‘Shay and I had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, 'Do you think they'll let me play?' I knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but as a father I also understood that if my son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

‘I approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, 'We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning.'

‘Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt. I watched with a small tear in my eye and warmth in my heart. The boys saw my joy at my son being accepted.

‘In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three.

‘In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as I waved to him from the stands.

‘In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again.

‘Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.   At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game?

‘Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

‘However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact.

‘The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed.

‘The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay.   As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.

‘The game would now be over.

‘The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman.   Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game. Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all teammates.

‘Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, 'Shay, run to first! Run to first!'

'Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base.   He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

‘Everyone yelled, 'Run to second, run to second!'

‘Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base.

‘By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball. The smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team.

‘He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head.

‘Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.   All were screaming, 'Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay.'

‘Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, 'Run to third!
Shay, run to third!'

‘As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, 'Shay, run home! Run home!'

‘Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team.

'That day', said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, 'the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world'.

‘Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making me so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!’

A wise man once said, “Every society is judged by how it treats it's least fortunate amongst them.”

Lowell,

Do you know the relationship with the 2 daughters  that is still doing commercials for Standard Insurance.  The woman looks a lot like the ones in the 80's

You said ""gentleman's club" is one of the all-time great euphemisms."

I think rather that "gentleman's club" is one of the all-time great misnomers.".  Tee hee.......

Chief Lackaexperience,

In my opinion most of the men are gentle.   The women are not.

Chief Manup

P.S:  The guy that timidly asks for a lap dance like it is a big deal will get a lap dance and lose his money.  The guy that takes a pack of 2$ bills to  20$ bills and puts one in her waist and leaves a trail of bills guiding her to the table he is sitting at will spend slightly more money, but take home the girl after work.  Being timid is not your friend.

Wayne,

All I know about them is they ain't Farmers.  They also don't look Progresssive.  They drive me Boenkers.  They don't have our Mutual interests at heart.  I don't think they would enjoy the New York Life.  That is All I can State about them.

Back in the day those two sisters were shockingly pretty for independent insurance agents specializing in auto policies...at that time.

It looks like one of them is ever present on their website and a few of their commercials.   I don't know if they're still together.

I can't remember for the life of me who their father or grandfather was who started in the auto insurance business and was still going when I started in Austin at 21 in October 1972.   I knew a lot of agencies in Dallas then.   I would probably remember if I had a Dallas Yellow Pages from the mid 70's.

Remember those?   They had neat drawings of the City on the cover with little figures and people drawn in.

The attorney and insurance portion of the yellow pages then were 25-30 pages of ads.

Internet destoyed the Yellow Pages...and a lot of businesses who thrived from them.   Hard to spend a billion instead of 40,000 to get calls.

Still living off the Yellow Pages ads and sales from said...

PS  you might plan on getting roofs fixed.   Carriers are switching to ACV on roofs over 15 years old at renewals...

The other day I was reading how Freddie King had gone to Chicago and struggled because his voice wf as so similar in sound and style to that of BB King.   He changed appearances to a different part of Chicao and was unable to get recording contracts at first because of this issue.

Of course he later succeeded in both venues and recording, ending up at Shelter Records at the invite by Leon Russell.

I have Texas Cannonball and have enjoyed it in my collection of vinyl playing it dozens of times..A Party staple.

Lowell:

in the 70s and 80s, I couldn't get any of the country songs I wrote published because about 85% said I sounded too much like Waylon Jennings. I said I didn't want to get a recording deal with the songs - just wanted to get them published.

David,

Reflecting on your story of the disabled boy and the baseball game reminded me of a set of classic tee ball stories.

First, this boy was the slowest runner to first base that you have ever experienced.  The coach had an idea that might make the boy run faster.  He told him to run to first like a rabbit.  That explains why the crowd couldn't quite understand when they saw the boy hopping like a rabbit on the way the first.

Second, same boy.  He was approaching third base and the line coach saw he could score if he hurried.  So he shouted out "Run home, run home".  Of course, the boy took off from third base, ran past the chain link fence and began to run to his house.  At least we were able to catch him and get him back to the baseball field.

Good times.

Lowell,

I did some research and found out Lisa Victoria Chapman Jones is the woman on the Standard Insurance commercials and she is 61 yr old and has been doing the commercials for 40 yrs.  She has not aged very much.

Russ,

I did my full name and Jp Ann;s name.  I get notification of any filling with 2 of my names.  Like Gary Creighton, Gary Wayne  etc.  I have gotten about a dozen alerts that the name close to mine but no cigar.  Nice free security.
