Rick, even as a child, was a sweet guy whom I always liked to talk to. He was civil, mature for his age, and clearly had an intellect. He and the recently departed Janet Pierce were two of my favorite people because they were nice, apart from their other positive attributes. At the advanced age of 70, I've come to admire people who are just plain nice. There aren't many of them. Tom Grimes

Rick was one of the first people I met when I moved to Texas in the summer of 1965.  Jimmy Davidson lived down the street and he and his three brothers and their friends often played basketball in their driveway.  My brother and I rode our bikes by one day, stopped to watch, and ended up playing.  I was the second tallest guy, so I ended up guarding Rick.  I thought he was funny, both giving and taking guff from everyone -- Jimmy's brothers always called him "Bald-belly" which we all thought was hilarious.  A group of neighborhood girls, Ann Fuller I particularly remember, would hang around and watch.  They loved Jimmy (he was softspoken, shy, and cute) and Rick sort of scared them because he was big, loud, and rode a motorcycle.  He was also a very aggressive basketball player.

Well, what can I say? I was in Mr. Dillard's Chemistry class in the afternoon our junior year and it was an experience. Rick learned he could get away with a lot and HE DID! Yes, I was part of the mayhem since he kept me in stitches, and a lot of serious students really were impacted negatively, I guess. So obviously I'm sorry about that now - I just wish I could have not taken chemistry - could you take physics without having taken chemistry? Never took physics. But Dillard's class was something you could never forget, as much as some may want to! May you rest in peace forever, Rick, for all the fun you provided me! You were truly one of a kind!
