In Memoriam

Glea Ramey

Glea Ramey passed away in May 2025. He was a starter on the RHS Eagle basketball team and was married to classmate Diane Gant for 53 years.

The following was shared by Diane.

Glea had an aggressive form of bone cancer.  He was diagnosed in January.  Up until then he was very active.  He didn’t stop all day.  He enjoyed doing things around the house and repairing and fixing up things.  If anyone needed anything in the neighborhood, they called Glea.  What we enjoyed the most was being in Colorado.  We had 3 second homes there and sold the last one a few years ago.  Every summer, we spent the majority of our summers there because it’s so hot in Texas.

Glea was partner in a CPA firm in Houston until we moved to The Woodlands 20 years ago because he bought a CPA firm here.  He took early retirement and enjoyed being on the finance committee at our church.  After Harvey he mucked out houses with our church in areas that were hardest hit.  He really enjoyed helping people, especially widows.  He loved watching all sports, but you could find him at the park by our house shooting hoops.  He was a great husband and my best friend.  We were married 53 years.  I miss him so much but am comforted knowing he’s with our son in heaven and we’ll all be reunited one day.

Another comment by Diane.

I forgot to say we met in the 8th grade there in Richardson and when he first saw me walking down the hall he asked Debbie Dupree who I was.  When she said Diane Gant, he said “I’m going to marry her one day”.   You don’t have to include that, but people can’t believe he said that at age 13 and followed through.😊

Glea & Diane were a special couple. Diane & I went to church together at FBC Richardson, singing in Youth choir plus in a trio with Marsha Snowden. I'm sad to hear about Glea. I'm praying for Diane.

I don't usually make posts but I had to now.  Glea was a wonderful young man in high school. Diane was one of my best friend then and I too sung in the choir at our church.  I remember when Glea was taking me home from Diane's house ,he told me he was going to marry Diane.  He was 17 and I was around 16 It really is a beautiful love story. Glea gave me great advise on that ride home but I didn't listen. Wish I had listened. When our 10 year reunion came around Diane and Glea took me   I had already had 3 kids and was divorced but they made me feel cared for .They are a beautiful couple and I will always be grateful to them .

I'm really sorry to hear this one.  Glea was kind, thoughtful and humble beyond his years during high school, and I expect that never changed.  Glea lived a block north of me, and we spent many good hours shooting at his garage basket.  I have a memory of a basketball game early in our senior season, when Coach Stone went on one of his frequent tears about how none of the seniors were dedicated enough or aggressive enough.  Glea promptly shifted into a new gear as he played defense.  He hustled and hustled until his face was beet red and, eventually, he became sick.  We needn't say what this showed about Stone, but for Glea it just showed his heart and commitment, a heart he turned to more important things after basketball and high school were done.

I've seen Glea only occasionally at reunions since our high school days but always could count on him for a big smile and warm memories of our basketball days together, or families and our neighborhood.  I am deeply sorry for Diane, who seemed his kindness soulmate, and wish her every comfort and peace.

Glea was a class act.  Always seem to be calm and cool headed.  He was a very nice guy.  A real gentleman.  Glea and Diane were a perfect match. RIP Glea
