In Memoriam

Mike Gable

Michael Thomas Gable was born January 22, 1951 in Pinehurst, North Carolina to William D. Gable and Sarah Bostick Gable.

He died on September 29, 2017 at home in his sleep of complications from angiosarcoma at the age of 66.  Mike loved his family and he counted every day as a gift from God. He was a 1969 graduate of Richardson High School and a 1973 graduate of East Texas State University, where he earned a commission through the Air Force ROTC. Mike was thankful to be an American and grateful for the privilege to serve in Her defense. Upon completing his active duty commitment, he worked for the Texas Workforce Commission and Texas Veteran’s Commission, and retired after 35 years of public service.  He was wholly devoted to his family and lived his life in service to them.  He was an avid camper and he and Gail spent four memorable summers volunteering at Olympic National Park. Mike was an active member at First Baptist Church of Richardson for 37 years where he taught children, youth, and adult Sunday school classes, RA’s, and served with the safety team.

Mike was an ordained Chaplain and volunteered for five years at Richardson Methodist. Bringing comfort and hope to patients brought him great joy.  He also enjoyed many years volunteering at Need Him to help hurting people to hear the good news of Jesus’s grace.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Gable, and he is survived by his wife of 39 years Gail Gable; his children, Jennifer Bobadilla (Mel) and Philip Gable (Savannah); his brother Chuck Gable; and sister Leita. He is also survived by his grandkids: Elise, Elayna, Peter and the anticipated arrival of the 4th, Bethany, later this month.   He adored his grandchildren and his favorite title was that of “Poppy.”

The family will receive friends for visitation at Restland funeral home from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, October 3, 2017.

The funeral service will be at Restland Funeral Home in the Memorial Chapel Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 2:30pm.

Mike will be buried at Elm Cemetery in East Texas where there will be a short graveside service. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Elm+Cemetery/@32.9454184,-95.6821049,13z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x8649807fff430221:0x9bc5a3677e985c77
