Classmate John Fanning passed away at age 71 in Bryan, Texas, in March 2022 as a result of kidney failure and heart issues. He is survived by his wife Becky Fanning and son Brian Fanning
We were advised that John was in hospice for a few days but was ready to go home. He was a nice guy and good friend.

I remember John as a gentle giant. He lived near Boon Richards across from Northrich Elem (if memory serves). I lived up the street so ran into John often. Although we were not real close friends we did visit often and played jr hi football together. He was always friendly and upbeat; a genuinely nice guy. Sorry to hear of his passing.

I remember playing football with John. He always had a smile on his face and an easy going way about him. I remember thanking him for taking it easy on me during blocking drills, because he was so much bigger than me. I have nothing but fond memories of Big John.

Thanks Eddie and Dave.
I remember John just as you do. He was good-natured, happy, and humble. Somehow he was a good offensive lineman even though I don't think he had a mean bone in his body.
My father died in grade eight and team members gave me a signed football as a gift. I remember clearly that Big John's signature was the most prominent of all.

As others have said he was a gentle giant. John always seemed to be in good spirits. He had a smile on his face any time you saw him. RIP
