Obituary for Scott Hollis Baxter, Dallas Morning News

Scott "Scotty" Baxter, beloved son, brother, and friend of many, passed from this life into heaven on September 27, 2005. He died peacefully in his sleep after a long and courageous battle with emphysema.

Scott was born in Dallas on February 9, 1951. He attended Spring Valley Elementary, Richardson Jr. High, and Richardson High School. He played baseball while in high school and continued on to play for the SMU Mustangs. In a family of athletes, he was considered by all to be the best. His love for camping and the outdoors, and his love for animals and his special way with them, was obvious to those who knew him. Scott's fishing trips with his namesake grandfather, Harold M. Scott, were his special joy.

To his friends, he had special qualities that each of them knew and continues to remember. Many of them plan to attend his memorial to share their remembrances. As a brother, he was perceptive, kind and accepting.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Colleen Patricia Scott Baxter. He is survived by his father, Robert P. Baxter, Sr., and three brothers, all of Dallas: Bob (Bobby) Baxter, Jr., and his wife Kay and daughters Elizabeth, Anne, and Caroline; Steve Baxter and his wife Sheila and sons Brennan and Andrew; and Brady Baxter and his wife Nan and his son Ryan and his daughter Kelli, and two sisters: Tricia Nevins and her husband Mike of Dallas; and Tina Baxter of Lubbock, TX.

Scott will be interred next to his beloved mother, Colleen, whose love and devotion for him was ever present. We will miss you Scott, but we know that we will be reunited with you one day for all eternity. May you rest in peace, embraced by the joy and love of our Savior, Jesus Christ. There will be a m memorial service and reception to honor Scott on Thursday, Oct 20, at 2 p.m., at Spring Valley United Methodist Church, 7700 Spring Valley Rd., Dallas, Texas (972) 233-7671.

I was saddened by news of Scott's death back in 2005 as I had heard small bits of information about his life in the (too) many years gone by now. He was my first "steady" boyfriend back in junior high and I remember him as a sweet guy with a great sense of humor. Sure brings back some fond memories... I also remember what a good athlete he was and that he had many friends around him. I'm remembering you fondly, Scott. You will always be a part of my life in memories.

When I talk baseball I always think of Scotty.  For what ever reason Scotty  and I had a unique bond on the field.   It didn't matter where he was lined up at third base I always knew he and I were on the same page as to when I was going to pop up after a pitch and attempt to pick a runner off at third base.  I never gave him a signal, he just knew.  He would always be there in position to take the throw and tag the runner.  I never worried about him not bring in position.  Miss you Scotty

Scotty,

You lived across the street on Paldao from Shari, the girl I married from RHS. I really loved playing baseball with you. I am sure, as Russ Stovall can say about you, that we played in such concert together.

I apologize for giving you too much grief because you were a year younger. But, that was my way of saying you earned your right. I miss you and still think of you!

Although this is being written as if you were here in my prescence, I fell that you are and I KNOW God has blessed you.
