Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

I rember when Geo W got elected there was a meeting in Cal.of Dems that was tapped. In the meetig Pelosi said the best way to regan control of both houses and the White House was talreadyo be opposed to everythig the Rep were for.  I good example was Sen. Clinton stated whe should redeploy some of out troops overseas. Bush was already having the Pentagon looking at our deployment. About 2 weeks after Clinton made her statements, Bosh anounced a plan that involved moving some troops around.  Clinton said that was a bad idea.  That way she was against anything Bush wanted.

While reading about current events, I was somewhat surprised by the following two items:

1. How many of the more than 700 people who were arrested have been indicted for insurrection, or sedition, or treason?   Zero.

2. While 58% of Republicans today say Biden wasn't legitimately elected, 67% of Democrats said the same thing about Trump back in 2017.

It sure seems like some of the 700 arrested would have been indicted for insurrection, etc if this were their actual crime, rather than rioting and unlawful entry into the Congress building.

Also, it seems like the "disease" of rejecting election results isn't only a Republican disease, but a Democrat one also.

David,

I do landman work to answer your question.

I apologize if you think I said not to love our gay children and friends.  Yoo always love them and guide them as much as you can.  God the Father loves them and guides them the best that he can by instructing them in God's Word.  There are consequences on this earth and in heaven for not following God's Word.  He loves us and tries to protect us from that and warns us of the curses or blessings depending on our actions.  However, despite your wishes for your children or friends, they have their own free will and you cannot decide for them.  The consequences are on their heads not yours.

I have an Uncle who recently passed away.  When he found out his daughter, my cousin was gay, he disowned her and never spoke to her again.  I would say to you that I did not condone his actions one bit.  He sinned at least as great as his daughter by not continuing to love her and acknowledge her as his daughter whom he loves.   God does not ever abandon us in our sins.  He loves us and goes the extra mile to try to get us to correct them, including total forgiveness for repentence.  Ultimately we have to choose God's Way or the Devil's Highway.

I saw you describe the Trinity to Tommy.  One statement you made is not correct.  You said Jesus is not God.  That is not the case.  Jesus in the Bible is called by several names, one of which is Emanuel.  It means God on Earth.  Jesus was here in the beginning with God the Father.  Read the opening passages of the Gospel of John.  Jesus is the Creator of all things on earth and it was he that appeared to Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and Noah.  If you will notice throughout the Bible, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God which can only manifest itself when God the Father and Jesus are together in one location.  In the New Testament Jesus had to go to the Father before he could send the Holy Spirit.

Thank you for your efforts to try and educate the non-believers.  We are all on the same side.  I find most of your other explanations on religion to be spot on.

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

Steve,

You are correct.  I was thinking that God is the Creator, and because of that, He and Jesus were separate, in that God created His Son at a later date, but I've always believed for myself that Jesus was God on Earth, basically.  I've thought that if you looked into the eyes of Jesus, you would see the tremendous eyes of God within Jesus' eyes, looking back at you, and you would be overcome with a "knowing."  I just get confused when trying to explain the Trinity in words to people who are questioning.  I have always preferred to use the Shield of the Trinity diagram, since it is easy to view and seems to be clearer for people.  Do you think the Shield of the Trinity is correct, or not?  I've also heard "scholars" say that there is no mention of "The Trinity" in the Bible, so they say that the concept is untrue, yet I feel that it is true.  Sounds like you believe as I do.

I've always tried to tell others that I'm a work in progress and not a scholar, as some who have done extensive study are.

Thanks for your help!

I could sit and listen to your explanations for hours and learn more and more and more.  Of course I could sit and read it for myself too, and certainly I need to read more, but reading, for me, is something I don't do enough of.  I get bogged down in daily stuff, and I listen to too much news, I guess.  My son tells me to get some of those additional reading aids that accompany the Bible's study, to go along with daily readings, as they are good for giving additional explanations when some concepts confuse people like me.

The Adventure of Silver Blaze  by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Inspector Gregory:  Is there any other point to which you wish to draw my attention?

Holmes:  The curious incident of the dog in the night-time.

Gregory:  The dog didn't do anything in the nightime.

Holmes:  That's the curious incident.

(And thus Holmes solved the case by deducing that the murderer must have know the culprit; otherwise, it would have barked.)

Sorry guys, couldn't help it.  I've scoured the message forum and couldn't help but notice that the Richardson 7 (the 7 conservatives that domnate this forum) failed to mention the anniversary of January 6, 2021 at all.  Nary a mention, though there were cartoons and other routine criticismss of Dems and President Biden yesterday.

Come on fellows, pray tell, what does this silence mean?  You seem to have something to say about everything else.  Was it an oversight or does it potend something else?  What am I to deduce?

Kurt,

Let's not downplay or diminish the crimes these fellow americans commited on Jan. 6th. There  was one capital policeman who died from being assualted, one rioter shot, and 3 rioters died of other causes, 65 D.C. police were injured, 81 capital police suffered injures and 5 police died of suicide.

After the 2016 election upset for Democrats , you didn't see anyone from that party , storm the White house and shit in the halls, or bring a truck loaded with a assault-style Tavor X95 rifle with a telescopic sight, a Glock 9 mm with high-capacity magazines and more than 2,500 rounds of ammunition, including at least 320 rounds of armor-piercing bullets...  Or any fellow americans bringing  AR-15-style rifles, a shotguns, a crossbows, several machetes, smoke grenades and 11 Molotov cocktails, or  beating a police officer with a flagpole.

If you will remember the Watergate investigation took over 2 years to investigate and indict the seven by the grand jury. This Trump coup attemp has many in it's clan to investigate .  And there are questions as to why the FBI and Dept. of Defense, whose job it was to investigate and stop threats to national security failed to see the severity of the threats .

Trust me, grasshoppers, this too shall pass and many indictments will follow.

Steve, stop fabricating and exaggerating , it is a sign of immaturity. The only wine that was comsumed recently , was in my red sauce for my lasagna. :-)

Bob Fleming,

The lies and overblown accusations about Jan 6. are so ridiculous that they do not even deserve comment.  Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Sotamayor's comments are 180 degrees from what they said last week or last month.  The fact that the Democrats are trying to suppress any opposition and make it impossible for anything to exist in this country but a one party elitist group that creates nothing and takes from others to give to themselves and their friends is so obvious that even died in the wool Democrats like Dave Chappelle and Micky Minaj are recognizing it.  Joe Biden and his son Hunter are so corrupt and the evidence is so compelling that it indicts the Intellligence Services for their collusion with the party in power.  The media is so complicit that when people at a game begin chanting "Fuck you Biden" they say the chant is "Hello Brandon'"

Everybody with any sense can see the truth.  You can lie to some of the people all the time, all of the people some of the time but you cannot lie to all of the people all of the time which is what the Democrats are doing.  Justice will prevail and even the Democrats fear it will be soon.

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

Bob,

I think we on this forum do not want to make an anniversary date out of January 6th.  It was an incident that was mainly a riot, unfortunately, that we roundly criticized and condemned as being totally stupid and foolish, and it was done by some awful nut cases who came into DC exactly to create such a ruckus.

The VAST majority of Republicans who were there, were there just to raise their voices to the Congress people inside, to say that we feel there are MANY questions that were NOT addressed in a proper way.  Ted Cruz and several other Senators went there to say exactly that and ask for about ten days of investigation, but he and his team did not get to do what they hoped to do.

The entire reporting of the fiasco was done with a purposeful slant by the biggest portion of our media, and has carried on for a year as an effort of our press to accuse most Republicans as being White Supremacists, who want to COMPLETELY destroy democracy in this country, which is false and insane.

Therefore, we didn't want to say ANYTHING on January 6th, as, like I said, we want to NOT let the date be a continuing anniversary in the annals of American history, as is Dec. 7th, 1941, or September 11, 2001.  The events are not comparable at all.

Why were the Cheney's the only 2 Republicans to be present in the House chamber for a moment of silence commemorating the Jan. 6 riot in the Capitol ?  Those who represent Republican citizens of this nation , where not there.. There might not be accusations of the entire party of being supremacists but republicans must not be supporting  the integrity of our democracy and are turning a blind eye to insurrection attempts, no matter how small "your number" is.

Dick Cheney said , "I'm deeply disappointed we don't have better leadership in the Republican Party to restore the Constitution."

Let me remind you all that the oath of the House of Representative office states, “I, .., do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I ...

One more thought;  I fear intelligence has been undermined by what is : :

"The crowd vs the individual "

People like to believe that they are independent thinkers
and that rational analysis and logic often prevail. They also might be modest
enough to admit that other people have valid, and even superior opinions.

When those same, rationally thinking people arc part of a crowd, they
tend to conform to the crowd. It is uncomfortable to maintain a
minority opinion, even when the individuals analysis is sound. As
part of a crowd, humility is lost, as everyone begins to think that they
(the crowd) are 100% right. There is no room for contrary opinion.
Facts not confirming the mass opinion are ignored.

God bless you Bob and Jan. There are plenty of classmates who, like me, are terrified to speak up lest we suffer the wrath of the small number of arch-conservatives who post several times daily. (Who has time for that?) My husband and I had never voted for a Democratic presidential nominee until the "Orange Menace" came along. We were "Never Trump" Republicans and would have supported several of the other choices, except, of course, that weasel Ted Cruz. I do not recognize the party I used to support. Everyone who votes Republican is not a white supremacist or Q-Anon nutcase, but all white supremacists and Q-Anon nutcases are Republican. We now vote blue and our money goes to help Democrats all over the country, since Texas seems to be a lost cause. So David, if you wonder why so few classmates post on the forum, now you know. If you truly outlawed religion and politics it would be a much more inclusive group. I actually only look at the forum when I check the prayer list. Otherwise, I just can't take it. That's it, I'm done. Good luck everyone!

Bob and Jan:

While I must admit I am pretty conservative in my viewpoint, in no way would I attempt to defend those who broke into the Capitol building and committed the acts they did.  It was illegal and their actions should be prosecuted.  I believe a large majority of conservatives would agree with me.  My comment about the charges brought against the 700 or so who have been arrested tend to support my point.  No one has yet been charged with the more serious "sedition" types of charges.

The point of disagreement is how these actions are described.  Were they essentially a riot or an insurrection?  I have a real problem calling it an insurrection.  They did not attempt to take over the government of the US.  They did want to make their voices heard and went way too far in this attempt.  This resulted in a riot and, as often occurs in a riot, things got way out of hand.  But to my knowledge, there has not been any evidence presented that their actions represented a concerted attempt to overthrow the US government.

I will say that I was overwhelmed yesterday with the news coverage of the January 6 events.  NPR was focused on continually reporting on the historic event, the hearings and feelings of the individuals involved.  From their reporting it appeared I was in some way jointly involved in the "insurrection" if I disagreed with them.  By mid-morning I already felt like I had been bludgeoned enough that I did not want to talk about it.  Perhaps that's why there was no acknowledgement of the event yesterday in this forum.  Not a great excuse, but a probable cause.

David,

I hope your son and his partner are able to travel to Spain this Fall to marry.  Love is patient and kind.  I wish them happiness.  It is wonderful they found each other, trust one another and love one another enough to make such a committment.

Jan,

You go girl.  I am with you 100%.  The reason the mob attacked the Capitol is the issue here.  The election was fair and Biden won.  There was no wide spread fraud, and what little fraud was found was so small as to have no affect on the outcome at all.  It is our election system that is under attack and at risk.  I am profoundly worried that states who pass voting restrictions and for election officials to turn over legal elections will destroy our Democracy.  I don't believe the BIG LIE.

Steve,

Yes, I have been having panic attacks lately.  On Monday my heart rate shot up to 181 BPM.  On Tuesday, 199 BPM.  I saw my doctor yesterday.  EKG, normal, blood pressure normal (I don't take any meds - yet).  I will find out blood work results in a few days.  Today, it almost happened again.  The reason?  Stress.  My husband had a colonoscopy on Dec 1st, which revealed (two and haif weeks later  - the waiting is the hardest part), that the polyp was high grade dysplasia.   One step under cancer.   The doctor we saw on Monday wanted another colonoscopy.  So we did that today.  They took out some, what appeared to be scar tissue and will biopsy that, he still has the metal clip inside of him they used to remove the original nasty polyp and now has a new one to boot).  We will hear about that in 7 to 10 days.  CT scan will also rule out spread, which might be next week.  I was up at 2:30 this morning with Danny because it was hard to sleep.  He had to start drinking the half a gallon of glycol starting at 3:30 am..  They took him first thing this morning.  He was done in 30 minutes but woke up in severe pain due to the gas they use to blow up your gut.  It took pain medication and another 45 minutes for that to clear up.  My mother is a handful, and the Republicans are nuttier than Fruitcake.

I just woke up from a much deserved nap and I feel OK for now.

I don't want to take tranquilizers or whatever the going drug is to calm my butt down, so I will use breathing techniques and read up on the latest phycology to get through this challenging time of my life. I also need to stop reading some of the stuff on this forum.  It makes me wonder about the sanity and common sense of some of our classmates.

Bobby,

I love your Arthur Conan Doyle quotations. The phrase  "the curious incident of the dog in the night-time" became the title of a novel and then a play. We saw the play last year. It features a young man who is brilliant but somewhere on the autism spectrum. He solves the crime.

Also, I like seeing you post, even if the purpose is to poke us conservatives. By the way, I never counted how many of us there are. Seven, you say?

About January 6, 2021 -- why do you expect us to say anything about it? There has been non-stop drivel about it in the media. Frankly, I'm sick of it.

However, here is my opinion.

Democrats and their press allies are capitalizing on January 6, 2021 partly because they think it was an abomination, but mostly to score political points, including the lame effort to tie it in to House Bill 1 which would essentially take election rules out of the states and into the hands of Pelosi and Shumer.

Vice President Harris's comparison of January 6, 2021 to 9/11 and December 7, 1941 was ridiculous, befitting her very well. Why not include the 1954 shootings in the House Chamber by Puerto Rican nationalists in which five Congressmen were wounded.  https://history.house.gov/Oral-History/Events/1954-Shooting/ Which was worse?

President Biden's politically-charged speech belied his campaign promise to unite the country. As my mother once said to me, he had a chance to be a hero, and he blew it. It just gave me one more reason to loathe him.

The only loss of life during the riot was among the protesters, and the only one who was killed deliberately was an unarmed woman, an Air Force veteran who was shot to death by a policeman. Imagine how that would have been covered in the media if had been a Black Lives Matter protestor.

The events of January 6, 2021 don't bother me as much as the torching of a federal courthouse and a multitude of violent acts since the death of George Floyd. Not sure what dates they were, and I don't anticipate mentioning them on their manifold anniversaries..

The people who invaded the Capitol are idiots and criminals who deserve to be prosecuted, although they also  deserve to have the same right to fair treatment and fair trial a anyone else. Some have been jailed for almost a year without a trial. (Too bad for them that they aren't subject to the same rules promoted by Soros-promoted district attorneys, like the new one in New York City.)

President Trump did not incite a riot, at least not intentionally. He specifically said "peacefully" in his speech. Also, as obnoxious as he is, he is too smart not to realize that an invasion of the Capitol would not be something he would want to add to his resume. On the other hand his continuing insistence on challenging the election results is foolish and ill-advised, even if he truly believes it. It only causes him to lose support among independents and non-Trumpian Republicans. He should be smart enough to realize that situation. I am reminded of lyrics from the musical Evita:

All you have to do is sit and wait

Keeping out of everybody's way.

You'll be handed power on a plate

When the ones who matter have their say.

Trump should just ignore this transparent effort to divert attention away from Biden's well-demonstrated incompetence. When your opponent is digging himself into a hole, let him keep digging.

In military terms, Trump needs to learn not to fight the last war.

I've seen Evita performed live eight times in six cities. Below: Patti Lupone, Bob Gunton, and Mandy Patinkin. I saw Lupone and Patinkin in concert at the Eisemann in Richardson several years ago.

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

Jan,

Biden is NOT defending the southern border from foreign invaders, is he?  There are many people pouring over our borders who are not coming here for amnesty, but are coming here just because they can.  And there are pounds and pounds of fentanyl pouring into our country to kill mainly our youth, since only a tiny bit of the substance can kill a person.  Also, child abuse is taking place and there are criminals bringing foreign women here for the sex trade.

As for why there were NOT Republicans at the vigil, I suspect that Republicans refused to particioate in the "spectacle" created by Pelosi, because they STRONGLY do not suppport her efforts to smear Republicans as nasty people who voted for Trump.  Trump definitely had plenty of faults and was crude in many ways, but he was not a dictator, who caused harm to this country in ways the Dems SAY he did.  He actually helped this country with a number of his policies.

Also, the Republicans do not feel that our democracy was in any peril.  The people who caused the riot scene in the Capitol were idiots who just wanted to make a big stink and wanted to shout at certain members of the Senate they disliked.  They were not there to kill anybody and brought no weapons with them, as has been stated by the FBI.  Their taunts of "get Pelosi" or Pence, were just their stupid nonsense playing out, like you would suspect from stupid schoolboys who say dumb things in the school yard.  These people WILL be prosecuted, as they should be.

As I said before, Republicans were not interested in making January 6th an anniversary for bashing Republicans, which is most likely what the Democrats were/are trying to do, year after year in continuation.  The people being held in the jails awaiting sentencing, are not being charged with sedition, but are being charged with things like "trespassing" or other minor charges.  The fools should not have fought the guards, but then the guards should have had better control of the place, as was suggested days before (beefed up security) but Pelosi was in charge of that.  She did nothing.

Republicans were making the statement, as I see it, of "We're not going to play into the hands of the Democrats who are making another "public display" of how much they detest us, and intend to smear us, their opponents, into humiliation as deranged people who should not even be allowed to exist as legal citizens here."  They have made their view of us very clear, and they do not have to keep telling us, year after year.

WE get it!

I will add to Sandra's post.. Along with my wine in the red sauce, I too panicked because of an urgent care visit for acute bronchitis.  and I posted this:

My thoughts are with all that are needing good thoughts in their trials and tribulations.. I took this picture this summer and love it.. Thought of Jimmy Baker , there is light at the end of the tunnel.  Love this picture..

SO Steve , stop fabricating and exaggerating. . We all would post here more often , if we could.

Peace ... and I do care about all of you.

Now Steve, maybe I DO need a glass of wine. It is 4 o'clock somewhere, Oh wait it is 4 here . AND Friday with 20" of snow.

More pictures to lighten it up.

Hi Carla!

How are you?

Please post here more!  This forum is for all sorts of comments, not just politics and religion.  We all like and encourage all sorts of talk and discussion.  It's just that many of our classmates seem to have no time or are very shy.  Therefore, they have fallen away, leaving only a few people here at all.

I would be interested in anything you have to tell, Carla!  Really and truly!

I hear that Carol Simmons is now in a suburb of San Antonio, and is a counselor at a high school; is married and has one son, I think.

Have you heard from her or Mary Kathryn Watson lately?

Fill me in!  I know Mary K. was in Plano the last I heard, and has, I think, two sons.  She worked for the airline industry in Dallas for quite a while.

Barbara Clark Mims is in Bartonville near Louisville TX, and has a horse ranch, but is now soon retiring from being a surgical nurse at Parkland.  She's doing well and is happy!

How is your daughter doing?  Emily?  Is that correct?   Are you a granny like me?

Janalu:

The doctrine of the Trinity is difficult.  As I've mentioned before, God did not speak to mankind in a systematic theology textbook, but through other men and through events.  We, in turn, attempt to put these words together and create general statements regarding God and His dealings with mankind.  Pretty tough.

This issue was dealt with formally in the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD.  From that meeting came the Nicene Creed which is generally accepted by both Catholic and Protestant churches.  In that creed Jesus is recognized as "begotten of the Father", but at the same time "God from God".  In John 1:18 similar language is used regarding Jesus being "the only begotten".  The question is what "begotten" means.  Today we tend to think of it as born or created, but that is not the historic Jewish meaning.  The meaning of begotten was closer to "one of a kind".  Jesus was unique as a Son and of the same essence as the Father,  totally unique.  In the first chapter of John we see Jesus as 1) in the beginning; 2) with God; 3) was God; 4) in his incarnation, he exhibited the very essence of God as the only begotten son.  So Jesus was not created, but existed as the same essence as God the Father from the beginning.

Okay, once more I've gone overboard in my explanation.  My apologies to those uninterested in this topic.

This is part two...part one is on the other site...

I agree it is uncomfortable to review this anniversary year after year.   I agree these are not you people attacking the Capitol.   Though, they are like people I know and love..

But, a lie is a lie.   A light has to be shown.   The reality is the incident happened.   It is what it is.   I will be significantly appraised forever.   That's politics.   The right complains about the left.   The left complains about the right.

Occasionally someone comments negatively about their own side.   They do so at their own political peril.

I saw Kurt's post and decided to Google the First Niceian Council.   Wiki has a long complicated detailed account of what happened.   I left it and came back.   After writing the Creed, and getting rid of the Arianists, they decided on a date for Easter.   Then, they decided on some Canons.   (rules forChristianity.)

I saw the first canon they passed is that they prohibited self-castration of Clerics.   I agree that was a wise choice, but number 1?   Sort of funny...and yucky..

Among other canons were a cleric is not allowed to house a younger woman....also, a proibition of usury amongst clergy.

That's why Church's get in trouble for lending, I guess...

Edit....Now i was curious about Constantine, who welcomed the bishops and their followers/interns to Niceia.

He was known as Constantine the Great.   The first Roman (emperor? August? Caesar?) that converted to Christianity and was baptized, though, there are intellectual doubts on his whole history.   His nature was (compared to other Caesar types) tolerant.   However, he was high up in the command of Galerius, who instituted the worst Christian persecution period in Roman Empire history...His story is very interesting.
