Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Bob D.,

What do you think of John Durham's indictment of Michael Sussman, part of the legal counsel for the DNC, and especially counselor to Hillary Clinton's wishes?  Do you think he will be able to escape punishment?  Do you think Durham is well on his way to figuring out the genesis of the whole, convoluted, false charge made toward Trump; that Trump and Russia were colluding against Hillary?

A clip from the Democrat primaries --

Should we be surprised that Biden throws open the borders even as his Secretary of Homeland Security (Security???) contends that the borders are closed? Note that even Bernie seems uncomfortable.

That Mayorkas fella seems goofy to me.  The Senators were asking general questions at their investigative procedure the other day, and the guy couldn't even give "ball park" figures as to how many people were in Del Rio currently.  All he could say was "Well, I'll have to get back with you on those numbers," even though the senators were just asking for approximations.  The man was clueless, or just didn't want to answer, since he knew the camera was on him and that the hearing would be on the evening news.  Evidently, 'HIS handlers' are also telling him what to do and say in his appointed position.  His handlers are the same Democrats "handling" Biden, plus additional "advisors" they consult with daily, such as Obama, Soros, and other deep pocketed donors of that Party, or in other words, unelected folks that we citizens had no say in, toward having control of OUR governmental decisions.

Those deep pocketed guys are called "The Dark Money Donors."  Observers and listeners following along daily, will hear them named frequently, as being able to infuse the Party's coffers at most needed times, with untraceable money amounts.  These are the ones who wish to see "the transformation of American be what they envision the country needs to become," instead of what we voters determine our path will be by our voting methods.

I don't know about you, Janalu & everybody else, but I've just about had it. I've decided to write a book about this mess, as Unknown Hinson would say. I think I'll call it "American Marxism". YEAH, GOOD IDEA!!!

Chief Toenails,

Information is power, right? So before you issue your final decree about the aliens on the trip, I need to ask you something further & related to that.

Remember I LOVED your idea of the Austin wall & dumping all the trash over it. With all the current & future unemployment, and competition for all the jobs with the millions & millions more of fellow citizens we're just starting to get now (an additional Biden feature is all the jobs will be blue-collar since the good ones will be & are currently being shipped overseas or to other Marxist areas in our "country"), we've got to be creative about any future work opportunities. And you can kiss your former SINFUL fossil fuel career away, good riddance. So maybe we can get some kind of shuttle service going for illegals - we can turn this border fiasco on its ear such that Biden will close the border due to all the phone calls from Malibu & Montecito!!! We've already only just learned that EXTREME visibility of Biden catastrophes only produces short-term benefit since the EVIL ONES in charge just lie, then do different & cover up with their complicit, corrupt media & now totally obedient national government, including all law enforcement & other governmental entities, social institutions, etc.  BUT ALSO maybe we can start OUR OWN pipeline (take that, Joe!) down to Austin for all the dead aliens (after all, that's just collateral damage - remember, think like President Road Kill - this is WAR) that we can then add to all the trash going over the wall there in Austin!! They'll never notice that interspersed human carnage, especially if their rat problem, oops I mean rat population, there is increasing like it is here (hey, some of that increase isn't all bad either!!! I happen to know by personal experience now, Buster! You'll have to just trust me on that, but like I've told you before (AS IF you needed to be told), you can ALWAYS trust me in EVERYTHING I could ever, would ever tell you, or whatever...........). Whaddaya think?

Hey Lance.  One of my favourite G Marx quotes:  This morning, I shot an elephant in my pajamas.  How he got there I'll never know.....

On a more serious note, I'm glad that Jenalu and David C have addressed Lowell's off-handed comment about the border crisis 'not being a big deal'.  It is a big deal.  What kind of imbecile opens up a national border in the middle of a pandemic?  Answer:  the worst kind.  These folks streaming across the southern border have very little to offer our country, if anything positive at all.

Before you start accusing me if racism, I should let you know that one of my best friends emigrated to the USA from Vietnam in the early 1970's.  He got an Info. Tech. degree from the U of Houston in the late 70's, having been sponsored by a family whose head-of-household was a Baptist minister.  I met him in Los Angeles in 1985, at Hughes Aircraft, and we have maintained a friendship since then.  He actually got me a contract position in Houston in 1988 with Exxon.  I was attracted to the low cost of home ownership at the time.  He accepted a permanent position shortly thereafter, and became a manager of around 25 people.  One of the smartest IT guys I ever met in my 30+ years in the industry,

Another friend, who I met in Corpus Christi in 1994, moved to San Antonio about 20 years ago.  We were both on contract to CP&L (the electric provider) at the time.  He is the 2nd smartest IT guy I ever met.  30 months ago, he married a gal from Thailand, and she has been trying to gain citizenship since then.  They have spent somewhere north of $12k in that effort, jumping through all kinds of hoops along the way.  Including subtle (reverse) racism from the predominantly Hispanic bureaucrats.  The wife has a PhD.

These are two examples of the kind of immigrants we dream of, not the clueless Cartel-Delivered baby-toting, penniless, non-English speaking, vaccine-free individuals who are currently crossing our border with the full approval of our Federal Judge-defying administration.  WAKE UP AMERICA

David,

I glanced through the online version of the Durham indictment.  It was very, very interesting -- my reaction was that it is the first salvo in a possible war against the 2016 Clinton campaign's dirty tricks: the conspirators were not mentioned by name, just function.  The first indictment had to come out because the lies the guy told the FBI have a four-year statute of limitations so they had to indict within that time.  The rest came later in the campaign.  The indictment details how those power mad fools set up a trail of bogus evidence to trick the FBI into starting an investigation that could be leaked to their friends in the press to slander poor Trump.  It is truly sickening.  Prosecutors in these gangster-style cases routinely squeeze the minions to get them to turn on their bosses -- the idea being that the minions will be less afraid of the gangsters than spending the rest of their lives in prison.

The amazing thing to me is that, despite the admissions by everyone who has looked into it, the liberals seem to still believe those Russian collusion lies that Hillary's minions cooked up and had the Democrat propaganda machine spout all those years.  We've been around to see how these same creeps demonized Reagan as a warmonger, and doddering fool, and with "Reaganomics" (before he straigntened out the economy for a generation) and "Bushitler" when that little jerk was really one of them.

It's worth remembering that only about one-fourth of the population has the ability to do abstract reasoning.

Anyone:

It looks like I'm going to have to change from being a crunchy con in hipsterville Houston to the suburbs -- i.e., moving from a 100 year old bungalow I totally love a mile from downtown Houston to a suburban modern house in Kingwood or Atascocita -- planned communities 30 miles up the freeway from the center city.  I like the suburban lack of constant crime, little traffic on the streets, big pine trees, hike and bike trails, neighborhood pools and parks, and mainly, much lower property taxes.  (the joke is moving from a place where life is cheap and dirt expensive to a place where dirt is cheap and life expensive)  I don't like the long commute to court, the lack of inner city restaurants, entertainment, and arts, the idea of homeowner's association Nazis, and so many chain stores and restaurants.  I'll be going from having Sheila Jackson Lee as my Congresscritter to Dan Crenshaw, which makes me smile.

Has anyone else made such a change or have any insights?  My view of the suburbs is from Dallas in the 60s -- the only time I personally lived there.

Basically, even with the over 65 and homestead exemptions, my taxes are a major expense and I'm tired of hearing about neigbors being robbed at gunpoint at the Kroger down the street or in their driveways. I'd like to cut back a little on my lawyering habit and the key to being able to do that is cutting expenses.

The main thing to look for when you move is to make sure you are not going to a Homw Owners Assn. development.  Several years ago Rockwall mandated all new developments have a HOA because they had stiffer codes and could have harsher enforcement and the city could save $ on code enforcement.  ONe HOA was telling a homeowner he could not park his top of the line delux Ford PU outside his house but it was OK for a neighhbor to park the same PU that had a Linclon nameplate.

Lance,

Not a lot of people know this, but that kid's last name in the picture was Schnell. Since his surname means "quick" or "fast" in German, his mother was yelling "Schnell" in the Deuback's rink fire and that inadvertently caused a TON OF FUTURE WHITE SUPREMACISTS on our side to escape successfully - some of them I believe were involved in the INSURRECTION on January 6, so in our new 2-tiered (actually 3-tiered since the Marxists only at the very top ALWAYS avoid ALL consequences - and we're seeing that now) justice system, they will be in their gulag in perpetuity, if the Dems are given their way. From the frying Texas heat to the fire to the........

Tommy, you might not want to read this one...........

Now we have single-digit-IQ Joe the Invalid (at least 2 meanings I can think of) lecturing us about those mounted border patrol agents as he REPEATS the Marxist lie debunked DAYS AGO that they were whipping the poor, innocent law breakers as the GOOD GUYS were JUST DOING THEIR JOB FOR US, YOU PRESIDENTIAL MORON. The Jo(k)e in Chief is now saying there will be CONSEQUENCES for those suspended SINFUL (honesty & doing good are now apparently increasingly outlawed) border agents and "THEY WILL PAY" - for dealing with the catastrophe he alone created and won't lift a finger to fix - which he could do in a heartbeat with several specific TRUMPIAN, UNBIDENESQUE (good vs. evil) actions as THE ENTIRE WORLD KNOWS. BUT WHO CARES? THE PLAN IS WORKING!! YEE HAW!! HOW DEMONIC CAN IT GET AROUND HERE?

10 Commandments of American Marxism (no particular order; otherwise that would be anti-chaotic - ed.)

I. Thou shalt forget about it when taking the Lord's name in vain. (FUG-GED ABOUD IT - ed.)

II. Thou shalt not commit honesty or perform good works.

III. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house unless it's defended in a St. Louis neighborhood.

IV. Remember and ridicule the Sabbath as thou ignore it & let thy freak flag fly.

V. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife when her husband is an NRA member.

VI. Thou shalt have no other god before Satan (mother of all no-brainers - ed.).

VII. Thou shalt not murder unless thou can get away with it and keep the Party out of it.

VIII. Thou shalt not call it stealing when engaging in a peaceful demonstration.

IX. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor unless he's a racist White Supremacist.

X. Thou shalt not commit adultery since sin is just a concept, and right and wrong is relative (i.e., for those in doubt, go for it - ed.).

XI. When in any doubt, thou shalt flee to thine own revered & beliked Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals". (not beloved - there's no love there - duh - ed.)

Bob D,

Are you SURE you want to move? If this housing disaster of a bill passes, that does away with ALL zoning as I understand it so in my old neighborhood in Dallas off Royal Lane I can see it now on an imagined block:

McMansion, 8-plex (BIG LOTS!), 50's house, McMansion, McMansion, 8-plex, 8-plex, McMansion, 8-plex, 50's house, 8-plex, McMansion, 8-plex, 8-plex..............COOOOOOLLLL!!!!!!!

It's one of the prongs in the Dem/Marxist War on America, the War on the Suburbs campaign to turn all non-elite areas into apartments & slums (then their apathy will be on full display, as if it isn't already, since all elections will be meaningless henceforward if they get their way). You see it in Portland A LOT with ZERO or little detached housing construction but umpteen apartments & condos going up everywhere.

Anyway you probably as a lawyer know a lot more about this than I do.

The only reason I could think of for leaving Woodland Heights would be to cash in for the land value, the home is too old and very expensive to keep up, of you need to be iin some kind of assisted living.

Crime?  Good luck on escaping that anywhere within the 7 counties around Houston/Harris.   You are either lucky or not.  And property taxes?  as Lance says, even with 65 exempt, unless you're under 200,000, fageddaboutit.

How does anyone afford any kind of re modeling?

Pa. university threatens consequences for those who misuse pronouns

By Patrick Reilly   September 23, 2021 1:13pm

A Pennsylvania university has threatened that disciplinary “action could be taken” against students who misuse classmates’ preferred gender pronouns.

Point Park University in Pittsburgh’s Office of Equity and Inclusion informed its student body in an email on Sept. 13 of its policies for the 2021-2022 school year, which included a policy on “Misgendering, Pronoun Misuse and Deadnaming” and a “Preferred Name Policy,” according to the email obtained by Campus Reform.

The misgendering policy threatens to punish students “if a complaint is filed” for repeated misuse of a fellow student’s preferred pronouns, or using a student’s “deadname,” or the name they had previously identified with.

“Misgendering, continued misuse of an individual’s pronouns, or using an individual’s deadname after being informed of a chosen name could result in a violation of the Policy on Discrimination and Harassment for gender-based discrimination,” the email states.

“While the University recognizes the aspect of intent versus impact, we must recognize that regardless of the intent, if an individual is impacted in a harmful way, action could be taken if a complaint is filed,” the email states.

The university’s Preferred Name Policy allows for any faculty, staff or student to “identify themselves within the University community with a preferred first and/or middle name that differs from their legal name,” according to the policy, unless it is deemed inappropriate or could be “interpreted as offensive to a reasonable person.”

A guide from Point Park University in Pittsburgh on how its students should use the correct pronouns.

The email included links to the PPU’s Pronoun and Inclusive Language Guide, which suggests replacing common gendered words with neutral ones, such as replacing “boyfriend/girlfriend” with “partner” or “ladies and gentlemen” with “students/guests.”

Point Park University’s student government president Dennis McDermott told Campus Reform he believes that the school’s pronoun misuse policy would look similar to other policies concerning different kinds of discrimination on campus.

“I would imagine any violation [in this case misgendering, misuse of pronouns, or incorrectly using someone’s deadname when you are aware of their preferred name and pronouns] would result in a similar action to any act of discrimination against students on campus,” McDermott told Campus Reform in a statement.

An extract from the Point Park University pronoun guide detailing punishments if a complaint is filed for pronoun or name misuse.Campus Reform

“I, of course, respect the beliefs of others and their right to express those beliefs, but those beliefs, no matter what they are, cannot impede or harm the rights of others, in this case the right of a student to be respected in their use of their preferred name and pronouns.”

Louis Corso, Point Park University’s managing director of marketing and public relations, also backed the policy, telling Campus Reform, “Point Park University expects every member of its community — students, faculty and staff — to treat each other with respect.”

Some students at PPU, where there are about 3,000 undergraduates and over 1,000 graduates, told the outlet that they were unsure how to feel about the policy and its enforcement.

“I understand what the university is trying to do, to be more inclusive and make those people feel more involved and maybe less separated and more respected, but by asking me to do this instead of just allowing students to do it themselves is making me feel uncomfortable and making me feel like my choice isn’t being respected,” student Caitlin Wiscombe told Campus Reform.

Sophomore Tyler Hertwig, a track and field athlete, said he does not support the university’s policies.

“I think it’s unreasonable to expect the 99.99% to compromise for the 0.01%,”  Hertwig told Campus Reform. “To expect people to completely rewire how they interact with others is nuts. All for what, that 1 in 50 million chance of them possibly running into someone that’s ‘not’ a male or female,” Hertwig said.

David,

I agree with the last paragragh of your last post.

If I should by chance run into one of those "mis-wired" people, I'll just simply turn and walk away.  I don't want to be bothered by a person like that, and I refuse to try to unlearn what I've learned over 70 years.  And I'm sure such a person doesn't want to be bothered by me either, so I'll happily exit the scene and avoid any more interaction with said individual, as well as fireworks from WOKE enforcers who may want to engage me.

Bob D.,

I thank you for your assessment of the Sussman indictment by Durham just recently, and I think your assessment was absolutely spot on!  I am equally of the mind that what has been done in recent years by the Democrat Party to our country, is downright sickening and, in my estimation, un-American, in the most subversive and unethical way.

I was so glad to see the indictment come to fruition, as I had begun to think nothing would ever develop for our citizens to know about; that the whole stinking mess would be swept under the proverbial rug as usual, never to see the light of day.  I'm hoping that Durham will continue to seek the truth of the matter and will continue to enlighten us with what we've long expected to be reality, the core essence of Hillary's calculations spewing forth from her long history of conniving, deceitful maneuvers, believing that she is above the law "of those deplorable, ignorant, easily snookered little people."

I also agree with you that the complicity of our once-upon-a-time admirable press corp is shockingly disgusting, and they have now descended into a morass of disreputable liars wanting only self aggrandizement and the same power fulfillment their gods desire, no matter the cost to our country.

Oh the tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive!

FYI:  21 Century Cures Act. For the first time in history federal law prohibits (healthcare providers) information blocking.   However, buried within the newly mandated federal law is disconcerting information r/t to "patient consent no longer necessary..."   This is a subject far too voluminous and complex to tackle on the forum.  I share a  downside of the 21st Century Cures Act b/c I don't want to mislead anyone in the belief he/she doesn't need to watch out for him/herself and loved ones in the dizzying maze called U.S. healthcare.  Love to all.  Be safe.

Tommy,

Amen about Unknown Hinson 1954-. That rendition post #23764, of Jimi's "Little Wing" I posted is PHENOMENAL, isn't it? Starts out slowly though. He also plays drums, bass, keys, you name it, a Renaissance man - well, you could tell that immediately anyway just by his speaking. His wife died a few years ago and now he says he's done at 65+ since his hands/arms are shot and he got into a spat with Dolly Parton 1946- over something he said, and his record company or touring agent dropped him or whatever - I couldn't be bothered......saw him twice (bet he was an honor student as well as I sat across from him as he ate his dinner that one time - I'm being serious (for once) about that).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unknown_Hinson

His albums are HILARIOUS. That first one, "The Future Is Unknown", is a classic, but NOT politically correct. I witnessed 2 lesbians' walking out in the middle of "Your Man Is Gay" about a guy who's enlightening a female about her honey. He was part of a Reverend Horton Heat 1959- (who, like Smokin' Joe Kubek 1956-2015, was almost reverential (hey, he's a reverend!) when he was discussing fellow guitarist Robin Siler/Syler/Sylar 1951-2005 with me) show here so the chart-topper was not the head-liner for that one. By the way, I also saw Smokin' Joe Kubek (forgot to ask him if he were related to Tony Kubek 1935-) twice, and I had thought he got his nickname from his guitar playing, but that guy smoked a lot of cigarettes too!!! So I guess somebody put 1 and 1 together and.........never saw Robin Siler play anything other than hooky - actually never saw that either but I saw a LOT of other misbehavior. Oh, my....the two of us..I'm not saying it was ever Perry and Dick but there is such a thing as synergy, isn't there, be it for better or worse? Come to think of it, that's about when Perry 1928-65 & Dick 1931-65 happened - hanged on the 100th anniversary of the shooting of Lincoln (died early the next morning 4/15/1865).

A finally by the way, a SWEETHEART of a person is one Hank Williams III 1972-. He came out after his show here and signed, talked to & got photo-ed with ALL the DOZENS & DOZENS of people here about 10 years ago. I didn't waste his time asking to see the Unknown Hinson tattoo, but he did verify its existence on his biceps and I've seen photos since. I also saw his daddy Hank Junior 1949- here - I hadn't realized he was such a multi-instrumentalist. He played great boogie piano, fiddled great, of course acoustic guitar, banjo, likely another instrument or two, can't remember which. Maybe music talent runs in families? Of course at the basketball arena there was no meeting Bocephus - Hank Jr. played only about an hour and ten or fifteen minutes but it was GREAT! No encore.

PLUS Hank III has the finest so thinnest hair I've ever seen and it was long. He made us sit through TWO sets of punk/metal garbage before he played the 3rd set of country/western stuff I like. When it was my turn, the first words out of his mouth were, "Oh, thanks for sitting through the early sets." and I don't think it was saracastic at all really, just very nice - though I bet he just might have noticed my zombie-like behavior during those early "songs"!

I told Hank III how it was amazing how much he resembled his grandfather 1923-1953, even a lot more than his daddy did, and he said "Thanks. On a good day.". I remember that one story on a documentary about Minnie Pearl 1912-1996 when she first laid eyes on him (perhaps after a while and maybe he had also grown up since then?) and told him, "Oh, honey, I've seen a ghost here" or words to that effect.

Tommy,

Interesting. Although the question does arise. Why didn't you buy up those 23 acres yourself? You could have been idyllic for a lot of years I'm guessing, and then after holding on & finally selling it, after everything around it was built up, now be retired in some tropical locale with GAZILLIONS. Oh well, hindsight, right? Story of my life......but actually I don't feel sorry at all for either of us, you in your lost-paradise experience then or me in my lost-mind drama today.....hahahaha!!!! But yeah, any of the Hanks for what ails ya!
