Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Lance & David C,

And, according to her, HilLIARy, born in 1947, was named after Edmund Hillary. Too bad he wasn't famous until he scaled Everest in the 1950's. Like the late Vincent Bugliosi explained in his 1000+-page definitive TOME on the JFK assassination when he was talking about inveterate liar Lee Harvey Oswald, liars lie when they don't need to - apparently a very tough habit to break.

I was named after James Mulvihill, and I'm carrying a banner in HIS parade!!! YEE HAW!!

And I think I know who's in that picture in Lance's posts now. It's that buxom (I LIKE; I LIKE - you can't hide those things from me!) young Jewish-American actress, born in the Soviet Union, Milana Vayntrub (last name should be VAIN-ORBS), who is on the TV ads now for AT&T. She's been on my radar screen a LONG time.

Speaking of the lovely Milana, does anybody know if the late Eagle Carol Parton had Dolly Parton for a cousin? That would make PERFECT sense to me. hahahahahhahha....................

Chief JimBob,

The most surefire way to mark a liar is when he answers questions you didn't ask.

Lance:

re. Your reference to Tommy Nelson.  As you well know, Tommy is the senior pastor at Denton Bible Church.

When my son was in high school, we began attending DBC both to give him experience driving the roads between Plano and Denton and to provide him with the opportunity to listen to Tommy's sermons.  There are a few pastors that I put at the top of the list - John MacArthur, J Vernon McGee (deceased), Chuck Swindoll, S. Lewis Johnson, and Tommy Nelson.  Tommy is an entertaining speaker, provides down-to-earth teaching examples (how many times could he reference his experience as the North Texas quarterback during its terrible losing seasons), but best of all is able to explain the Word based on his knowledge of original languages and theology.

He used to present a Song of Solomon series at Prestonwood Baptist for the singles class.  Every Wednesday night he would fill the old Baptidome on Hillcrest with young singles drawn to his teaching.  Pretty epic.

Lance, Bob, Kurt, Jim and Wayne;

Many of your probably wonder why I continue to post and oppose Tommy's rhetoric on the other forum.  The answer is in Luke:   "Those who are whole need not a physician, but those who are sick."

Lance,

I am no longer trying to get Tommy to stop being a "bully".  I choose to ignore him and his comments.

All,

Of course my first thought was, where was Eagle Lance Cantor when all this was going on? The investigation should start there obviously, with the woman's age BUT MAINLY Lance's history.......

PLUS look at her last name!!! They may be another (or two) Eagle involved?

OK, OK, I see it's one of the DNC news channels, but still I bet this is one of their FEW truthful stories! There's no political gain ergo no reason to spin it, ignore it, or just plain lie about it, FOR ONCE!!

Even with that though, I was a little surprised the NBC news people didn't try to spin it to say she was a suicide - after all, in this Bizarro world, that would fit PERFECTLY!! A suicide encased in concrete - like our country is becoming!!!

Lance:

After my son graduated from high school and went off to college, my wife continued for a year or two to teach Precept courses at DBC, but eventually we discontinued traveling up there for church.  It was quite a drive from Plano to Denton.

I was aware that following Tommy's heart attack, he was also struck by depression, but by then we were not in the church on a weekly basis so we did not follow his struggles.  Over time I was extremely pleased to see him back in the pulpit.

I really liked a number of the unique characteristics of the DBC ministry:

  • Rather than pass a plate for collection during the service, they set up several ice chests in the back of the sanctuary where you would drop your contribution.  Very low key, but they were always blessed with sufficient funds for the ministry.
  • He did not believe young people should attend seminary straight from college.  Instead, he conducted an early morning study for individuals  who believed they had been called as pastor-teachers.  These would extend for multiple years.  When the Elders agreed the individual was adequately prepared, the church would pay for the individual to attend seminary.
  • He believed the office of Elder was a life long calling by God.  Elders were not elected by the church body, as is a common practice.  Rather, the existing Elders prayerfully considered the individual's gifts and looked for confirmation of the calling.  This extended for months.  Only then would someone be recognized as an Elder and would serve for the rest of their lives.

A rare bird, Tommy Nelson.

Lance,

I did not know standing up to a bully was a form of bullying, just being strong.

I was talking to a gay male who is a member of my extended family, and referring to female breast tissue, he remarked, "It's just fat". Yes, I guess, perspective is EVERYTHING!

David Cordell

Jim B., I understand that nutritionists say that there is good fats and bad fats. My "love handles" fall into the category of bad fats.

08/07/21 06:01 PM #21779

Jim Bedwell

David C,

I CAN'T BELIEVE your remark! That's EXACTLY what I was thinking when that relative said that to me!! As in, "Yeah, there is bad fat, but there is also WONDERFULLY MARVELOUSLY GREAT fat as well!!!!!" hahahahahaha!!!!

Plus hugging my fit, trim daughter these days is strange!!! Just skin & bone! I can't believe I used to prefer that body type - I feel sorry for her husband! Except he's touching the fatty areas whereas I'm not. But even the "bad" fat is SO comfy on an attractive woman. Amazing how time alters perceptions.

Where did you come up with a comment about me in your earliar post????? I HAVE NO CLUE what you are talking about. Maybe you must be thinking about Tommy's alter ego Ron Stockalas???

I expect a retraction from you for a slanderous comment unduly warranteed.

David, this is another example why I and others you know have quit posting.

Regards,

Ron

I thought we were friends in High School at Richardson. I have not talked to you or seen you since High School. I always thought of you as a stand up guy. WHY IN THE HELL are you throwing me under the bus??????

Where did you get any info that I did anything to deserve your slanderous comments???

I am backing off of my friendship with you based on you throwing me under the bus for your perceived actions that I was never involved with.

I could say a lot of things to you right now, but I will restrain to keep my comments civilised.

If you don't respond to me and David in a timely manner, I will respectfully ask David to bar you from the website.

Ron,

IT WAS A JOKE!!! Obviously you have nothing to do with this. Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you!

08/08/21 07:04 AM #21783

David Cordell

Ron and Jim B.,

I must be missing something. What comment about Ron are we talking about? Can you give me a post number?

That said, we need to be careful about personal comments. This is not a forum for trashing other people who are also on the forum, although differences of opinion are welcome within reason.

Lance,

I just read that a study was done on incivility in comments on social media.  The study done by an esteemed group of health professionals and psychologists, found that there was a marked increase in the number of inciivil comments as a result of lack of adequate sleep.  The early risers who get up at 5:00 a.m. and got less than five hours a night are much more likely to make snarky and rude comments than those who got a full eight hours.

Got to go now, I am getting back in bed.

David C & Ron K,

Post 23117 is the offender - not to worry - I didn't have to delete it - I just changed Ron's name to Lance's!!! hahahahahaha!!!! I've already apologized to Ron off-line and he accepted it. And I  AM truly sorry, Ron, to have offended you. Like you said, we've really had 0 interaction since high school. I truly meant no harm.

And from your remark, David, it would appear that you likely skim my posts to some degree!! hahahahahaha!!!!

Lance:

Rather than turn this forum into a discussion of Christian theology, I replied to your question about my thoughts of TULIP and Calvinism in the User Forum section on Religion.  I'd love to continue the conversation there.

Regarding the practice of Denton Bible Church accepting donations in ice chests in the back of the sanctuary, I think Tommy Nelson and the Elders made an informed decision to do away with the pomp of the weekly passing of the plates and bring the issue down to earth (Christians are encouraged to support other Christians and God will convict you of what and how to contribute, but you shouldn't do it to seek the approval of others).  Coke or Pepsi?   This is an ancient religious issue far too complex for me to opine upon....

08/08/21 02:31 PM #21787

Lance,

What exactly is your relationship to Eddie Cantor? I've forgotten. Was he your grandfather? I've personally always thought maybe that you were hatched by some alien life form!!!

08/08/21 03:23 PM #21788

Jim Bedwell

Lance,

I'm not sure what "Fan" means - does it mean "forced air network?", as in forced down our throats? hahahaha!

I'm not God. How would I know about your ancestry?

08/08/21 04:29 PM #21789

Jim Bedwell

Lance,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Cantor

As I see it, we have at least 2 options. Send in your DNA to familytreeDNA.com and they will identify the family of your Y-chromosome (that's how I found out that I'm a McCoy/McKay/McKee/etc). If it's Itzkowitz, BINGO!!!! Actually I'm thinking it might be McCoy/McKay/etc..........

Failing that (after all, that genealogy company may get wind of your being EXILED from a forum or two in your time, and refuse to do business with you), as you see in the Wikipedia article, we know where he's buried so after midnight some time............don't worry about the DNA - we'll just take his skull since I think the DNA can be extracted from the teeth. Plus if he does have a clump of extant hair, since I've got Cherokee blood, I'll just scalp him - I know you can get DNA from hair roots, but I'm not sure if the person is dead for a while. We'll have to do some scientific research before that GLORIOUS extraction time arrives. Remember, we've had success before in nightly adventures so I'm sure this will be more of that if the need calls for it! We may have to get Mulvihill to create a diversion during the digging, but we both know he'll be fine with that.

Lance,

I tried to score some rock in downtown Portland, but the dealer, coincidentally also a BLM member, was busy smashing some white racist's head in and I was in a hurry so I couldn't dawdle...............in conclusion, great DRUG, oops I mean music scene here!

Actually that last post was a JOKE! Here's a really poorly recorded video of an ACE guitarist in Portland - Derek Doggett with D.C. Malone & the Jones. But check out the guitar solos. This guy Derek, born in 1966, can play ANYTHING! I think he is in the late Portland guitarist Jim Mesi's class.

OK, D.C. Malone's voice has its ups & downs, but he's FUNNY - also a comedian. The bass player & drummer are also excellent. Portland really does have a GREAT local music scene.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oS-cSuAzf40

There are other videos of Derek Doggett on Youtube. He plays in several groups.

Here's another that really captures what he can do, starting at 2:45 into the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1tYdR2rI9E - different drummer - the other video's drummer, who is the current drummer, is better; the bass player was born in 1951 - yep, a '69er

I keep detailed records of the shows I attend. I've seen Derek more than any other local guitarist - 35 times.

A few times at events here, I've spontaneously given lists of local acts, especially guitarists, to folks unfamiliar with the local music scene. Of course that never included rap, hip/hop, modern jazz, new wave, punk, etc., genres I don't like.

08/08/21 10:19 PM #21792

Jim Bedwell

Lance,

I've seen Derek Doggett 35 times with 4 different bands over about 11 years now - didn't discover the local scene until April, 2010 after I'd been here a year and a half. I hadn't known about the blues festival here - largest one in America outside Chicago, at least it used to be. But I will say in hindsight that if Derek hadn't been their guitarist, I really wouldn't have been interested in any of the 4 groups unless another really good guitarist replaced Derek.

They and other lesser groups in a certain clique here go to Happy Valley or Christmas Valley or whatever it's called in southern Oregon every year for a benefit concert - I've never been there. And those are not my videos.

08/08/21 11:28 PM #21793

Jim Bedwell

Lance,

Here is Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders at the Portland Airport explaining to "Shaggy", a well-known Portland autograph hound (whose actual name I don't know even though I know him sorta, not really - Shaggy's introversion makes Mercer look like Mr. Bubbly), why he makes her life miserable. I couldn't hear what he was saying to her, but she wouldn't sign his stuff - but she did sign that other guy's guitar part in mid-lecture! Plus I know he doesn't CARE that she doesn't like to be pestered by people like that - his behavior won't change - notice how he just won't take no for an answer from her.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzUyACTkdfo

Actually the guy that alerted me to this video is THE walking music encyclopedia of Portland, a long-time DJ here and LIBERAL!!! Born in 1952, he has never driven and takes public transportation - I bet he thinks Reed College is GREAT! Now he's physically disabled and so will NEVER drive. He and I are actually friends and I've taken him in my 1994 Lincoln Town Car (20th century auto of course - my parents' last car - still has just 160K on it - drove it from Dallas to Anchorage in July 2000 with my daughter - last year blue book said the car was worth $616) home to his downtown Portland apartment several times after shows - I guess he doesn't mind my emitting carbon during those rides! hahahaha! But he's averse to Shaggy's anti-social behavior. Portland stole that saying from Austin: "Keep Portland Weird", I think, but trust me, Shaggy's pretty weird, even for Portland! SHAGGEDELIC!!!
