Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.
The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.
Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.
Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.
Holly, your police sketch looks like one of Tommy's pecan pies...upside down!
Jim, your cloud looks like a bloomin’ onion!
Janalu and Jim, I normally don’t like US politics…but after this weeks GOP pep rally, I think my interest has increased as the GOP appears to be shifting into a NEW party…distinct from it’s roots.
Here are some of my observations…and some from ChatGPT Ai.
Appoint conservative judges, protect traditional values
Trade
Free trade agreements, open markets
Free trade with protections for American workers
America First trade policies, tariffs, renegotiate deals
Labor
Reduce union power, promote free markets
Pro-business, balance labor interests with economic growth
Support right-to-work laws, reduce union influence
Summary of GOP vs. Democratic Party in 2024
The Republican Party has undergone significant transformations from Reagan's era to Trump's leadership, reflecting broader shifts in the political landscape. By 2024, the GOP under Trump emphasizes economic nationalism, stringent immigration policies, and a robust stance on cultural and social conservatism.
These contrasting platforms highlight the ideological divide between the two parties, with Republicans focusing on conservative principles and economic nationalism, while Democrats emphasize progressive reforms and social justice.
Linda Peterson is no lady! But as she has failed to learn in life, you can't help the looks you were born with - just go ask Lyle Lovett. Undoubtedly that shortcoming helped fuel her warped viewpoint(s).
And since my youth, I've coddled bees, be they drones, worker bees, or queens, but I've never babysat or quilted them.
Yes, the Nazis or Bolsheviks would have loved that woman, especially if she had worked at a death camp or gulag.
In conclusion, LET'S (LET) GO, BRANDON!!! GO DONALD!!! FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!!!
Bob Newhart 1929-2024 died yesterday at age 94. What an hilarious guy he was with that deadpan delivery. One of my 2 favorite Alfred Hitchcock TV episodes, "How to Get Rid of Your Wife" 1963, was with him as an abused husband who successfully schemes and manages to get his wife convicted in court of trying to kill him. The other Hitchcock episode is "Cheap is Cheap" 1959, with Dennis Day (Jack Benny's sidekick) as a miserly husband who plots to get rid of his outraged wife after she finds out that he has been secretly stashing tons of money away in his defining mania to avoid spending money whenever and wherever he can.
Also Newhart was talking on a talk show once about his great friendship with Don Rickes. They used to take vacations together with their wives. Polar opposites in behavior were Newhart & Rickles with Bob's laid-back, easy going nature and Rickles with his Ritalin-needing energy. Anyway Newhart was saying how his wife was similar to Rickles in her active behavior whereas Rickles's wife was much ike Newhart, with her laid-back nonchalance about everything. Interesting.
One of the funniest times my Mom and I heard a routine by Bob Newhart, years ago, was when he was talking to God on the phone. The conversation and the questions addressed were hilarious. My Mom thought he was so funny and adorable, with his deadpan face and way of speaking. I thought he had big, expressive, hounddog eyes that added to his revealingly innocent face, as his routine rolled along.
I tried to see if I could find that routine on YouTube, but I didn't see one in my brief search. Maybe one can be found and enjoyed again.
He was a great talent for so many years, and will be missed by all.
We also lost Lou Dobbs yesterday, who hailed from Childress Texas! I liked listening to his viewpoint for many years as well. I would hear him on the radio each day, along with Paul Harvey, usually.
And then from rollicking Lubbock Tx., we've had Buddy Holly, Mac Davis, and Delbert McClinton to give us jolly music.....Also from Lubbock, we've had Jimmy Dean's yummy breakfast sausage to boost strength before heading out the door for school classes.
The Tidelands Motor Inn had a private club. 200 Rooms and an awesome pool. The club was where Newhart recorded his live album...during a week or so of standup routines in the private club bar/room. Of course it circumvented the liquor laws...like those in Dallas. That album was the first and only comedy album to win the Grammy for Album of the Year. Some of his stuff these days is hard to follow...I re listened to the first two bits on Youtube this morning and was barely getting it...
6500 Main. Now it's all part of Rice University. Basically at the corner of University and Main. Anyone whose been treated by doctors in Houston knows it's just across the street from the back of Scurlock Tower and across the street from Rice University baseball stadium.
Bobby Cedarberg's dad and/or mom had the album and we listened and listened to it. Laughing like 4th and 5th graders do. They also had Does the Chewing Gum Lose It's Flavor on the Bedpost Overnight, one of my favorits at that time.
The best take on the album for me was the driving lessons bit.
Yes, Newhart's telephone solo routines really were hilarious. And that Newhart Hitchcock episode had its many humorous moments. And in that show, one of the greatest lines ever in the history of film was, when he was telling his abusive wife that "Once the rings went on, the masks came off". Plus those 2 Hitchcock episodes have extremely funny endings IMHO.
And, Lady Lanajuju, PLEASE PLEASE don't forget that the forgettable (in talent) & unforgettable (in antics & "what will he do next?" performing) Joe "King" Carrasco (nee Joseph Teutsch) was from Dumas, Moore (is Less) County, Texas!
Just heard that Biden is fighting all the headwinds and is saying he will NOT exit the campaign. Hope he prevails! Can't wait until his next debate! YEE HAW!! LET'S (NOT LET) GO BRANDON!!!
Do any of you wonder, like me, what the Russian people think when they see and hear the ridiculous trials of captured prisoners there, especially American citizens who have been imprisoned? They watch the spectacles called "fair and judicious" trials, like the one they just witnessed, of Gershkovitch, then observe the insane verdicts rendered, yet they say and do nothing at all. I know that they have no voices there, however it seems like they might do something, en masse, occasionally, to demonstrate anger about injustice, but maybe not. Maybe they have been oppressed for so long, they feel defeated and are hopeless of change.
Do these Russians not know how absurd they look to the world?
I don't think they are truly "buying" the charge of espionage against this man, who I think is a journalist for the WSJ. I would think they could pick up world news with their computers, but maybe not. I'm not sure.
Hopefully the young guy can be brought home soon. What a horror to be held there in an awful prison on a trumped-up, totally false charge, for years and years!
But I guess they've been taught that Americans are the enemy for so long, that in spite of what they may learn from world news, they still just don't care much at all for what happens to an American prisoner.

Those are interesting thoughts to ponder. I too have been puzzled how the Russian people have grown to accept life under a dictator. How do people who seek to live a free life, settle for becoming persuaded and entangled in a society with little freedom and forced unity?
And then I got an interesting Biblical clue from both Revelation and EZEK 38:
1And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2“Son of man, set your face against Gog of the land of Magog, the chief ruler of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 3and say, 'Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief ruler of Meshech and Tubal.
Tragically, the Russian people have been sold a lie by a charismatic dictator, and like sheep, are stuck living in a geographic place marked by leaders of wickedness, and prophetically cursed and destined to Hell.
In the Bible's Revelation (20:7–10), God refers to Gog and Magog as evil forces that will join Satan in a final battle at the end of time. After Satan is bound and imprisoned for 1,000 years, he will be released and deceive the nations of the world, including Gog and Magog, into gathering in large numbers to attack Jerusalem and the saints. The verse says that the number of Gog and Magog will be like the sand of the sea.
Pivoting to our upcoming 55th Reunion…which I hope you will attend…we have only a few short months to gather as a Class for the last time.
We have these present days to build unity here, OTOS, and with those lurking classmates that in October may decide to join, and participate while we/they are still healthy enough to do so!
In the past month or so, I’ve seen the classmates OTOS boldly post here…hoping for inclusive unity.
And so with this post, I’m hopeful you, Jim, and others here will reciprocate by deciding to reach out warmly to all classmates...especially OTOS.
Our last chance to gather in unity is coming around again!
Isn't it strange to have comedy routines recorded on an LP album and sit around and listen to them? And for the record to become a best seller in the US?
I found them incredibly funny then and I still find them funny. And it still feels like I can repeat the entire routines because I listened to them so often. Great memories.
There was an album made of the Lyndon B. Johnson family dialogues of the family members talking together about all sorts of topics. The twangy, Southern drawl dialects were hysterical and entertaining, as well as hearing the rather crude subject matter Lyndon decided to talk about at the drop of a hat, as if it was totally acceptable to do so, to whomever was around at the time he had something to say. Lady Bird's voice was particularly funny, Southern lady mannerly, yet innocent and clueless at times.
Did anyone hear that album besides me?
It was a popular 'comical' gift to give at Christmas time in the sixties, just for fun. My Ft. Worth aunt and uncle bought the album to share with all of us at our house, one Christmas.
I think that album was a follow-up to Vaughn Meader's The First Family in which he and others impersonated the Kennedys. I have a copy of that album in one of many boxes with old albums.
The girl standing to Vaughn Meader's left........she's WAY too old for daughter Caroline Kennedy.......must be one of JFK's bimbos? Maybe one of the 2 White House secretaries nicknamed by the Secret Service "Fiddle" or "Faddle"? He used to swim naked with them in the White House pool.
I just heard minutes ago that the Democrats are now thinking of pairing Kamala Harris with Sherrod Brown in an effort to gain votes in Michigan and the Rust Belt states, since they are worried that J.D.Vance will be campaigning heavily in that area.
Biden served his Trojan Horse function for Obama's Marxist agenda, successfully implemented. Good riddance to the very worst Prez, BY FAR, in American history with all the damage he did - TONS of blood on his hands. So one Dem airhead gone and on to the next one.
Hope there's a Donald/Kamala debate! Without the massive voter fraud from 2020, the only lingering (BUT MAJOR) concern for November 5, ROTSA RUCK, DEMS!
The only 2 decent Dem Presidents in our nation's history, Truman & Kennedy, both were in our lifetimes. I think Obama was 2nd worst ever after his "protege" Biden.
HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY (PRESENT), HERR PROFESSOR DAVID!!
Yesterday was the 80th anniversary of the failed assassination attempt on Hitler by Claus von Stauffenberg, who was executed in the very early morning 80 years ago today. So the failed assassination of Donald was 1 week shy of that anniversary.
Louis Nye was HILARIOUS (born Louis Neistat - like the late Jewish comedian Jack Carter replied in '76 when asked if he were related to the still-non-late Jimmy Carter, "I don't know. What did he change his name from?"). Died at 92.
I don't know Sherrod Brown very well, except that I've seen him around with Dems for a long time, and I've heard his gravelly voice speak a number of times on TV broadcasts. He seems to me to be a dyed-in-the-wool Midwestern Democrat, from Ohio, and seems to be a rather hard-nosed guy, well liked by most Democats. He knows a lot about the goings-on of the area, so he would be a good counteract to J.D. Vance's advancements. He might not even be willing to leave his Senate seat, so there's nothing much to project yet.
