Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

David,

When I visited Steve either last week or the week before he did ask about you.  He remembered you were out of town and I simply said I do not keep up with your travel. I am glad he remembered something you told him recently.

On a history note, this from the daily e-mail I get from the Texas State Historical Assn. "COME AND TAKE IT"

On this day in 1835, fighting broke out at Gonzales between Mexican soldiers and Texas militiamen. When Domingo de Ugartechea, military commander in Texas, received word that the American colonists of Gonzales refused to surrender a small cannon that had been given that settlement in 1831 as a defense against the Indians, he dispatched Francisco de Castañeda and 100 dragoons to retrieve it on September 27. Though Castañeda attempted to avoid conflict, on the morning of October 2 his force clashed with local Texan militia led by John Henry Moore in the first battle of the Texas Revolution. The struggle for the "Come and Take It" cannon was only a brief skirmish that ended with the retreat of Castañeda and his force, but it also marked a clear break between the American colonists and the Mexican government.

Tommy,

Please don't insert me in your posts when you are poking at David.

I like both of you guys as I always have since elementary days at Heights.

David has been especially sweet and friendly at all times.

You, Mister Tommy, are hard to figure out, sometimes, but I don't give up on you, since i find you fascinating in many ways, and enjoy that you converse with me.  You told me not long ago that I was too judgemental, but it seems to me that you are often the same.  With your background in Psychology, I think you like to analyze us, to a degree, but maybe you better not state your deductions on this forum.  We folks don't like everyone to know what may be our innermost negative problems.  We try to work on those as best we can figure, as we move along through life, but don't like to air our dirty laundry to the world.

Best wishes to two outstanding men I enjoy!

David C,

Steve has kind of a Mormon look to him now with that beard (altho I don't think they do the moustache) - maybe telling him that will get him to shave it? In fact, please feel free to tell him for me that he should shave the moustache so he will then look Mormon.

Anyway the ace fiddler David LaFlamme of It's a Beautiful Day just died within the last few months. Wasn't this a great album then?:

California Governor Newsom appoints Laphonza Butler. president of Emily's List, to fill Diane Feinstein's Senate seat.

Qualifications:

Woman --- Check

Black --- Check

Lesbian -- Check

Former labor organizer -- Check

Pro abortiion -- Check (up to the time of birth)

Resident and registered to vote in California -- OOPS

Apparently, California doesn't have enough black, lesbian, pro abortion women with no political experience, so he had to go to the east coast.

Not to worry. She just changed her registration and apparently has a home from when she lived in California.``

Good news -- She won't have to get rid of her home in Maryland since it is close enough to D.C.

Jim and Janalu,

I don't have anything against beards. I had one in college. I also grew one about ten years ago, but there was too much grey in it. My wife assured me that I looked better without it.

That said, I don't like scruffy beards. And maybe a guy doesn't like to shave, but a guy's beard that is contiguous with his chest hair doesn't work for me. Come on. At least shave your neck.

This photo is from spring '73, I think.

Note that the beard had just started when the photo below was taken. Note also that I had that extra hand surgically removed.

David C, Lanajuju et al,

Yeah, I had a beard in many winters in Anchorage and it did go gray in parts and then later I didn't have one much before moving to Washington state the day after that awful November election in 2008.

You don't think the checkboxed new California national "representative" Laphonza knows that neoMarxist Barack already, do you? You know, the guy currently in his 3rd term? The awful FDR & LBJ administrations were the "New Deal" and "Great Society". This must be the "Checkbox Only" administration. I am glad they caught that high-level assistant or whatever that was a gay drag-queen and was caught on film stealing airport suitcases, including some EXPENSIVE show outfits from a female entertainer of color - that was HILARIOUS when he had pictures of himself made in those stolen outfits and they're what helped bust him! And get him fired. At least he won't have to be on any impeachment list, if that ever happens.

And that's weird how some guys look better with moustaches but some look worse. Like Errol Flynn & Kevin Kline look a lot better with a moustache, I think. But I don't. Also James Garner had a moustache in episode 16 of the original Maverick, season 1 "Rage for Vengeance", and it didn't look good but later on in a movie or two, he had a different shaped one that looked OK, I thought.

David,

Did you hear Rep. Jamaal Bowman of D-NY (part of the Squad) on Sat plled the fire alarm in the  Cannon Bldg.  First he claimed he did not know it would sound the alarm in the entire building and cause evacuation. Today he is saying he thought it would open the door. Must not know the difference between a button that says "Push to open door" and a lever that say "Pull incase of Fire". Hopefully he gets fined and sent to reading class.

Jim,

Charles told me that Laphonza is friends with Kamala Harris, so it is likely that Obama, who knows Kamala very well, also knows Laphonza Butler.  I wonder if Laphonza has a partner?  If not, then she might enjoy meeting Biden's spokeswoman, Karine Jean-Pierre, who just left the home of her ten year partner, and is living alone in DC.  Even more noteworthy, I heard a couple of days ago, that Oprah Winfrey was also being considered for the Senate seat, by ol' Slick Newsome.  Newsome has some interesting ideas, doesn't he?  Additionally, I remember reading somewhere that Newsome's wife comes from a conservative family from Florida, and her parents were none too thrilled when she married ol' Newsome.  HA!

Isn't gossip fun?

My mother's assisted living center has 14 cases of Covid.  Last week it was 8 cases.  Needless to say, I have not visited her in person in over a week.  She is told to stay in her room.  So far she tests negative.  She eats in her room and all activities are suspended.  I call her at least three times per day.

We got our Covid booster a week ago Sunday.  Got the flu shot Saturday.  We also had the shingles first shot about a month ago.  That one was a doosey.  Very sore arm and felt like crap for about three days.  We intend to get the RSV vaccine too.  I get almost as many shots as someone in the military.

HURRAH!!! Some Republicans in the House just voted (with all Dems) to remove Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House!! First time in American history this has happened. He made the deal with the Dems to not shut the government down. Now if the Senate (rotsa ruck in that swamp organization) could only replace Mitch McConnell once Trump gets his 2nd term...........

Looks like the FNC conservatives are saying this is another dumb move from the Republicans, but I like it. McCarthy is only about half Rino to me unlike swampman McConnell who's truly awful.

Lady Lanajuju,

Great minds think alike. I was thinking the EXACT same thing - Laphonza can hook up with that worthless & now single press secretary!!! To be fair, though, Karine has a job any sane person wouldn't want - having to answer for Joe Biden (really Barack since he's the devil behind the curtain) on an international stage.

Tommy,

I got my Covid booser last week.  You need to get a booster to give protection from new strains that were covered with previous boosters.  The virus mutates and will be like the flu you will need to get a booster each year.

Cordell, last night they had frontline on PBS here and I caught a bunch of it.   I really liked the Astros Geophysicist who synced 82,000 (or 8200?) pitch swings with the sound from TV taped broadcasts.   He was able to catch a great deal of the cheating...which, apparently was realized by a pitcher in a game.  The pitcher stopped mid windup and approached the catcher for a change of signal, and it was easily understood he mouthed to the catcher, I believe they have our signals figured out.   That was in August of 2017...and apparently, there were no more video/trashcan signals after that, or at least he could not find any.

Suspend all the team members and staff involved for life is what Faye Vincent said should have happened.

I'm glad that didn't happen...

Technological advances in strategizing the game is what the Astros excelled at and continue to do so...they just took it too far...

It will be a story for 100 years.   The black sox scandal is still reknown...

Dave.   There was an issue between MLB and the Astros in 2013  Bud Selig was commissioner of MLB and was the former or owner of the Milwalkee Brewers, an American League team.   The feeling I got is he always wanted to go back to the National League with the Brewers franchse, and actually it was a reason for him taking or going for the commissioner's job.   He sort of hoodwinked, Jim Crane, the new owner of the Astros, into switching leagues...though there was a good argument for moving the Stros to the AL because of the Rangers rivalry...but, there were a lot of purists here who wanted to stay in the NL with all those historical rivalries...Anyway the case can be made the MLB was a little easy on the Stros because they were sort of screwed to go to the AL...

The Longhorn band has been rehearsing at Eagle stadium for as long as I can remember.   Sitting by my parents pool all through the 80's and 90's and 2000's we heard them...maybe the 70's too, though I wasn't home on Friday evenings for OU game in those days, as I lived in Dallas...
