What is your view of the future now versus your view in 1969?
In our innocence in '69, we thought anything was possible. Today, we are older and more aware of constraints and unintended consequences. We wanted to change the world, and in truth, the rapidity of change has transformed much of the world. During our lives, an increasingly smaller and interdependent world-wide civilization has emerged. Our multi-centered civilization can best be seen at night from outer space. If our sprawling cities already resemble the spread of a fungus on a spoiling fruit, what will the world will look like in 2050 or 2100? I don't know, but maybe it won't matter if we don't collectively strive to make the world a better place?
