Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Here are a couple of songs that were popular and that mention Jesus. Can you list some others that are spiritual/religious and that hit the charts?

Also, I have plugged Marc Martel several times. He has several playlists of Christmas/Christian songs. Not sure if you have to subscribe to his YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/user/cramletram

David,

I remember and liked those songs way back when.  I also liked the song Lance posted.

Lance,

Your post was wonderful!

I hope your knee is healing quickly and allowing you to have a new range of motion with no pain like before.

Jan,

We can respect what you have chosen and hope you can respect and understand what we have chosen.  Choice is the whole idea, and is of the utmost importance.

Steve,

I heard a nicely dressed Black businessman be told from an interviewer that the results of his Covid-19 test had been placed in his post office box.  The interviewer explained to the businessman that in addition to some other folks who had received their tests too, his test revealed that he was found to be 'positive' with the virus.  The interviewer explained that it would be necessary for the businessman to be quarantined immediately, as the businessman was nodding his head in agreement.  The interviewer continued that  several options were available to choose from, and then said, "Option A, is to stay in your home for two weeks with your wife and child,".....and Option B is.."

"B!" the businessman said quickly and with conviction!  "I choose 'B'!!!!   'B' is for me!"

Good one, Janalu. Is there any significance to the businessman's being black?

Hollis, political discussions aren't forbidden on the site. See the passage that's been at the top of this page for over a year. I just don't want the discussion to become rancorous, which it is wont to do, degrading into a series of anti-Trump screeds.

By the way, you can check out videos of the online worship at Transfiguration, including Palm Sunday. http://www.transfiguration.net/online-worship/ At our house, we had a procession from outside to inside before watching the service. We even covered the walkway with palm fronds, although they looked a lot like hawthorns.

Janalu: The best resource that rings true about what I remember and what I know given my parents' beliefs would be Our Unitarian Universalist Faith/UUA.org. I think back in 2015 or 2016 here I posted about my experience at First Church on Preston Road, so you could search for that with my name and Unitarian.

David: Please don't repost what I suggest Janalu find. I'm averse to debate or defense right now as my school work is more labor intensive online. You might identify. One of your classmate's parents were also members of the First Church on Preston. Perhaps that person would choose to weigh in here.

David,

There was no significance to the businessman being Black.  It could have just as easily been any businessman.  It's just that what I tried to convey in that comical episode or joke was actually a little video clip that was sent to our email address by a buddy of my husband, and when viewing the clip, my husband and I laughed at the man's face when he answered the interviewer.  His expression was priceless!

He appeared to be a businessman approaching his mail box at the end of a very busy day, with a weary expression on his face.  The interviewer, probably from a local TV station, thrust a microphone up to his face, as he told the news of what was seen a little earlier by the interviewer.  The local newsman had seen the postmaster place notices in several boxes and told the interviewer that these particular notices were 'positive' notices to folks who had taken Covid-19 tests a few days earlier.

When the weary businessman stopped in front of his mail box, the interviewer told him of the news that he and others had been found to be 'positive' of the virus, and then began to relay the options the interviewer knew would be forthcoming for the guy.  The tired Black guy listened patiently to what the newsman was saying, and seemed resigned to what the test results were, as he nodded, so when the newsman told of 'Option A,' the Black guy continued to nod in agreement, then when the newsman began to tell of 'Option B'....the Black man's face immediately brightened as he lifted a hand as if surrendering, and said clearly 'B!'  I choose 'Option B!'  'B' is for me!  Put me down as an 'Option B' man....

Anyway, when I began to re-tell what I had seen, I decided to tell the joke as I had seen it, changing nothing.

Glad you enjoyed it!

I cringe every time I hear the song "Oh Happy Day", but not because of the song itself. I loved the song. It is only because at Stephen F. Austin, Elby along with Buddy and Greg ( dormmates from Houston) and myself started a music group at SFA. Elby brought his drum kit down from Dallas and the rest of us played guitar. We all three had Martin guitars. So we borrowed the guitar logo name and called ourselves "Martin and Company".

We entered the SFA Talent Show. I think there were around ten acts. The group that played just before us was an all black a cappella (the Italian version of spelling) choir of 20 plus folks. They took up the WHOLE stage. They were fabulous and the crowd erupted with applause during and after the song. We were standing in the wings on stage so we had a great view of them. After they were done and it was our turn, I turned to Buddy and said, "Good luck following that!". Buddy was our lead singer.

We came in second by the judges, but I think it was a pity vote. The "Oh Happy Day" singers won the SFA Talent Show.

Happy Birthday to Bill Seiling today

Bill and I will always be linked with our birthdays. On Friday afternoon after school April 9th 1965, my mom followed Bill and I to the Drivers License office near Coit Circle. We were riding our little Honda Motorcycles to take our test. We passed!!! I got to take my test even though my birthday was Saturday.

So, Happy Birthday Bill !!!

Lance, a couple of knee replacement curious questions.

Does your knee click when you walk?  Not like cartilage but just a joint clicking.

Do you have the same bending as your good knee?  Do you have the same straightening as your good knee?

My bending is at about 94% and my straightening is 99.9%.

I had a hard time getting used to my replaced knee having no feeling. (They have to cut the nerves to get it in.)  This is uncomfortable for a long time when you kneel on it or get down on both knees.  After a while, I have gotten used to it, but always fear I might be kneeling on some sharp object and not feel it.

As I age, I notice the other knee is somewhat weaker than the replaced one, but has more flexibility.

I heard Bill lives in the apartment over his library in Arkansas and Hillary lives in DC.  They meet up once in a while but mostly stay apart for obvious reasons.  Bill has lady friends who stop by from time to time, but nobody comes to Hillary's house for obvious reasons, unless she is cooking something for dinner, which happens maybe once a month.

Had our own Maundy Thursday service, then watched Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ again tonight. So disturbing and difficult to watch..

Yes, HBD, Ron.

Yes, Sandra, it is glorious today. Makes me want to move to San Diego if it weren't so expensive.

Why do Republicans continue to support Trump, even as our economy suffers?

Because we know that the pandemic was an unpredictable occurence no one anticipated would suddenly hit us at this juncture, and because Trump continues to "upend" Progressive accomplishments we see as damaging to our country, with a vengeance & determination, which we applaud day by day.

We will vote for him again, inspite of his peculiar personality and demeanor, since he will continue to lead us  where we want to go for our future.

Unconventional as he is, he is our means to a better overall country than where the Democrats intend to take us; a globalist nation with open borders and Progressive policies that negate our cherished freedoms, just to give themselves ultimate power over Republicans they intend to diminish.

May God continue to guide us and bless us on this Good Friday, as we reflect on the incredible sacrifice Christ made for us sinners, allowing us to achieve everlasting life with Him and His love.

Steve,

While I appreciate your sentiment, I just view the photo as a humorous posting about telemedicine, one of the displacements caused by the COVID-19 virus, which continues every day, including Good Friday and Easter. That said, I apologize if you were offended, and I have removed the post.

Happy Birthday, all!

Here's an Easter song to the tune of Lonard Cohen's Hallelujah.

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

David,

That was a beautiful song packed with SO much meaning for everyone, but so many scoff at it as a silly pacifier story for "us little people who are easily swayed."  They continue that there is no scientific proof, only scribes of ancient times who recorded history; mere human men who possibly wrote just anything they wanted to write.  And then the information was bound in an old book along side some old Jewish writings of little value, they repeat.

Why has that old book remained an important book that many from foreign lands beg to read, if only their governments would allow?  Why has that old book been a number one best seller for hundreds of years, alongside other old books written by the Greeks or the other esteemed scholars throughout the ages?  Why have other ancient religions been formed around a monotheist power?  Why do other religions speak of karma or oneness, or powers of healing, hope and truth?  Those ideas came from somewhere to primitive man, since primitive man was selfish and always trying to survive against the elements in which he found himself.  Survival of the fittest!  Fight or flight!  Do whatever you have to do to keep what you have gathered!  That is how we began at first.  How did we come to be civilized with rules to be obeyed?  What was it that gentled us from our animalistic ways?  What was it that encouraged us to be kind and loving to each other?  There must have been some "dawning" to us as our minds learned more and more from daily life; some guiding force we became aware of from some power near us....

So many questions to ponder.

Steve,

Will you be chastising me a third time??

Janalu,

I have many friends who are non-believers. They don't try to challenge someone's faith. Those who do are not friends. I think you might concern yourself about them too much.
