Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.

The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.

Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.

Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.

Martha,

Your son is very wise.  I guess he gets his good sense from you!

He is right!  We need to take the precautions more seriously.  I've been staying home, but my husband ventures out about every other day, to pick up items at the grocery store or the pharmacy.  I think he is not as safe as he thinks he is, and I know that whatever he comes home with will be transferred to me.  So far, our small town has only gotten about 4 diagnosed people, but I'm sure that number will rise.

Stay as safe as possible and say your prayers!  Email me when you can----I was thinking maybe you could figure our my mother's genealogical history.  I know some of it, but not much.  I'd be willing to pay you for your services.  Would like to get together with you and the area ladies of RHS anytime!  We're bound to have a lot of gossiping to do, right?  HA!  Maybe when this virus goes away.....

Lance,

I like the melody from the movie PLATOON.  It is 'Adagio For Strings'....hauntingly beautiful, I think.  But the images shown of that horrible war are SO hard to watch.  The killing of mankind....so senseless and awful....

Platoon the movie; Youtube; Adagio For Strings

I like 'Ride of the Valkyries' too!  My son's high school band played that at football games sometimes.

Lance,

Impressive song, and an example of why we need faith, hope, and love.

(In my opinion.)

Another nice Dylan song & Academy Award Winner:  Things Have Changed; Youtube; Bob Dylan

Janalu,

I have given some investment advice to Tommy, but we have major differences in our attitudes.  Much like GBS said of the difference between an optimist and a pessimist, when I see a great company like Boeing's stock price fall for the 737 Max and then the cancellation of aircraft sales because of Covid-19 I see a company I want to own at a great price knowing their future is bright.  Tommy takes a position in a parachute company or an aircraft salvage company.

Here is a joke I heard a long time about the difference in a pessimist and a optimist.

Two boys were taken to a psychiatist, One a a pessimist and the other an optimist.

The Dr put the pessimist in a room with al sorts of toys to play with for and hr.  The other boy was put into a room with a pile of manure.

After and hour they checked on the pessimist and he was sitting in the corner with his arms crossed.  when asked about playing with the different toys he came up with all sorts of reasons how he could get hurt with each toy, so he didn't want to possibly get hurt.

Then they went to check on the second boy and when they opened the door, manure was flying.  They asked the boy what was going on and his reply was, with so much manure there had to be a pony in there and he was trying to find it..

Moral of story "FIND THE PONY".

If you like art, especially painting, this google site is fabulous, although navigating it is not intuitive. (The code must have been written by Picasso.) When you are on "Collections A-Z,"  for example, it only shows a few letters of the alphabet. There is no arrow to pan to the right. You just have to click on a letter to move to the right, and then click on another letter if you want to move farther to the right. You can look up a "collection", e.g., a museum, to see what's there.

On the home page, if you click on the three horizontal lines in the upper left hand corner of the screen, you can scroll down to "Artists" to navigate, for example, to a page with 227 paintings by Camille Pissarro.

This is an interesting site that shows COVID-19 information. Be sure to look at the bottom of each graph to see the source of the information and the geographic area addressed.

From a lurker:

Hi All, I invested 35 minutes yesterday in reading the English subtitles in this YouTube from a South Korean expert. Probably the best piece of information on coronavirus that I have seen. Covers everything A-Z; unbiased, no finger pointing, or interrupting. Amazingly novel method to transmit information. Be sure to lower your cursor to the bottom of the screen so the German subtitles don't obscure the English subtitles. I understand completely that many of you do not have the free time that I have right now.

David and Lowell,

Politics and religion aside for one moment, it appears as if we are in one of those pivotal moments in history where the world afterwards will never be the same.  I am a proponent of smaller government and I see both liberals and conservatives deciding that nothing can save us but government.  Our coming election is certainly one for the books as we have a conservative pro business, pro country populist who knows nothing about economics  versus a senile old man who is visibly slipping into dementia.  This is a situation that can be compared most recently with the great depression.   Government's actions to try and solve the problems then under Franklin Roosevelt resulted in consequences that were no good for the country incuding social security, the federal reserve, and numerous agencies that have complicated our lives since that day.  Other pivotal moments were the Russian revolution that resulted in the dictatorship of Lenin and then Stalin and the death and starvation of millions.  Another was the French revolution which gave us Robespierre and Napoleon.  While a revolution or changing of the guard can sometimes be preferred, it is not the revolution, but what comes after it that is to be feared.

Our situation is complicated by the fact that socialists and communists have been teaching our children in high school and college for years, and we have allowed it to happen.  It has resulted in a generation of people that have been taught to destroy their own country and to expect a living wage or entitlement to get free college, free minimum wage, subsidized income paid for by the rest of us.  We have forty year old children still getting a hand out from Mom and Dad, living at home, not understanding how to take care of themselves staring at a hand held phone and complaining that it is not enough. Those of us that work hard and use our brains to actually create something that is valuable to society are considered greedy because we have reaped the profit of our hard work and ingenuity and we should rightfully give it to the slackards for free.  We have spent two trillion dollars now, to bail out all those folks that spent every dime they made and lived above their means.  The key to wealth has always been living below your means and saving and investing the difference.  The bailout just voted is a stop gap measure that is only going to carry the unprepared for six weeks at the outside, and then they are going to need another two trillion, money that we do not have.  It only took this small pin prick of Covid-19 to prick the financial bubble that has been building in this country since 1974.  The situation can be described as a perfect example of the second law of thermodynamics where a closed system remains with constant entropy, but a system with this many variables tends to wind down to an equilibrium of a lesser entropic state.

I have a great piece of advice I heard from one financial wizard for a man to take:  Keep your pecker hard, your powder dry and watch the world turn.

03/30/20 04:57 PM #17787

Janalu Jeanes (Parchman)

Steve,

I like what you said in your most recent post.

I have nothing to say about peckers except be careful of where they seek company, and see how many you can identify in potted meat.  Powder dry?  Yes, keep it dry!  Maybe Tupperware will help.

I hear that we are now printing money with abandon, and borrowing more from China.  Geez!   Our national debt will be horrendous after this scourge is finally past, as well our inflation.  Also, I remember reading somewhere that each man and woman would need to pay about $125,000 (I seem to remember that approximate figure) before we were hit with Covid-19, since our debt was hovering around 23 trillion.  Now that we have added another 2 trillion, I suppose each adult will have to repay much more, to try and reduce what we owe.... that national debt.

Since The Communist government in China is responsible for the spread of this virus, do you think they will forgive the debt we owe them, if we challenge them about what they have allowed to happen to the world?  Are you thinking "fat chance," as your response?

I think I may have to come out of retirement and try to get a job where my daughter teaches, possibly as a teaching assistant for teachers like her.  I know when I tell her that she will probably faint!  HA!

I stumbled across this -- some guy's top 20 acoustic guitar intros to rock songs. Anyone have any additions to the list? I might have included Maggie May by Rod Stewart, but maybe that's not a guitar or not acoustic.

Janalu,

I don't think we can expect anything from China, Russia and Iran but contempt.  Oh, you can include North Korea in that.

I guess you have noticed that my posts have become a lot more serious of late.  That is because people are really afraid after quarintining themselves.  In other words, they are real suspicious of the infectious laughter that accompanied my past posts.

David and Janalu,

A group of business leaders met in the Rose Garden and Trump announced the fact that they were converting their businesses to public use to combat the Covid-19 problem.  Among them was Mike the Pillow Guy who is now going to make hospital gowns and masks.  Mike spoke and mentioned God and using the down time to get back to reading the Bible.  The left wing media went nuts claiming violation of separation of church and state.  They don't seem to be perturbed when Nancy Pelosi says we need to pray to get Trump out of office.  I can assure you that I am going to throw away all my pillows and get new ones from Mike when he converts back to pillow making.

The media also claimed that this was a blatant attempt by rich corporations to promote their own businesses.  Among the business leaders that was converting was the CEO of Jockey who is now going to make surgical masks.  This is just great, now I get to wear my underwear on my face.  I guess to promote his business the masks will have the company colors so you know they were made by Jockey.  I am assuming that means the masks will be yellow in the front and brown in the back.

Steve,

There are lots of videos of people using thong underwear as masks, but I like this video by a really enthusiastic and pretty woman who's making bra masks. She's not wearing a wedding ring, so maybe she's available!

David,

I suggest you have volunteers from our class make these masks and have them embroidered with the classmate's name that made and donated them.  Require them to be previously used.  Bidding on these masks should fund the next reunion.
