Welcome to the Richardson High School Message Forum.
The Message Forum is an ongoing dialogue among classmates. The goal is to encourage friendly interaction, including interaction among classmates who really didn't know each other. Experience on the site has revealed that certain topics tend to cause friction and hard feelings, especially politics and religion.
Although politics and religion are not completely off-limits, classmates are asked to be positive in their posts and not to be too repetitive or allow a dialog to degenerate into an argument.
Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry to the forum.
Our beloved Stevie is a 73 year old with a severe health problem, while the Pillsbury Dough Boy is just too doggone sedentary and perhaps a little on the lazy side. That would be my hunch.
He needs to learn how to do sit-ups. Maybe he should start with girl's sit-ups and work up to regular military-style sit-ups, doncha think?
The cheerleader director should lead him to better health! Maybe some laps around the track with walking firstly, and then some gentle jogging. That's the ticket! (And no more Reese's Pieces for a while!)
Push-ups would help his arms too, as you know. (Or maybe pushing away from the feeding trough!) Just teasing!
I bore witness to that kind of ghost town experience, way back in 1973, when I taught 6th grade at an Hispanic public school in San Antonio.
When Open House night came 'round, few parents showed their faces or their interest in their kids. Very sad!
We teachers often felt like the parents dropped their dear ones at our school early in the mornings (sometimes at 7:00 AM, as they had to clock into their jobs by 7:30 or 8:00) The parents seemed to think of us as babysitters rather than teachers. If we tried to schedule parent/teacher conferences, again we got little cooperation or interest.
Many of our students came from broken homes with, usually, a single mother trying to manage several children with little money, and English proficiency was minimal.
I only taught there one year. The area was depressing and seemed mostly hopeless to all who were living there.
I have a feeling that with all of the illegals entering our country, many of our schools will again have a boatload of problems with the children and their parents, but, maybe not......Hope springs eternal.
The Boy Scouts have had girls in the Explorers/ venturing 14-21 age group for a long time. In Scouts and Cubs girls are in seperate troops and dens. Both boys and girls do the same activities.
We went to buy Susie's new car yesterday. I google mapped directions and did not stop the voiced direction. The salesment sinked both our phones to our new Subaru and we headed home. Susie wanted me to drive as she was a little intimidated.
I tuned in the radio. Then Google direction started instructing me to turn back/uturn to get to where it was programmed to go. So, radio and google talking. I tried to turn off the google map, thinking it was the car trying to go back to the dearlership as we had test driven it. So, I pushed the car voice activate button and it asked me for instructions, I kept giving the instructions, but it wouldn't aknowledge...So the car was talking to me, the radio was playing sports talk, and google was telling me to go back. Then, Susie, who was following, called to say she lost me...several phone calls, the radio, google maps, and the car instructions...
This all during Housont afternoon traffic on the tollway...some lanes going 10 and some drivers going 80...
All the doo hickies on cars these days... distractions...you can't get around it...
Frequency and severity of losses...rising car insurance rates and a new report shows rising car accident deaths...reversing a trend that has been downward for years due to air bags, better roads, aging population, etc...
PS. If you have a bad accident and you are or were on your cell phone, they can tell.
EXACTLY!!! I love my new hearing aid (right ear - major hearing loss to the half-inch non-cancerous growth inside my large head (size 7 7/8 or 8 hat on this little body - hey, there's a lot more empty space in there too - hahahahah!) - it's called a vestibular schwannoma.
But yes, what I like is you plug it in nightly to recharge, put it on and it goes on automagically. SIMPLE!!!!
Without knowing anything about either, whom would you like your daughter's bringing home to introduce to you and your spouse? Mitt Romney or Donald Trump?
Obviously Mitt Romney. But as you get to know them.........
My point is that one has the country's interests at heart and the other has the self-serving Swamp interests at heart.
I knew girls had been admitted to the Scouts, I just didn't remember when it started. My son was a Boy Scout for many years, but that was long ago, in the early and mid 80s. I never knew why girls wanted to be in Boy Scouts, since there had been Girl Scouts for decades. I was a Girl Scout in the 50s and 60s, enjoying the friendships and camp-outs for many years. My daughter was a Girl Scout too, until she got into dancing classes, which took up her time from then on.
My uncle was a leader with the Indian Guides. Are the Indian Guides associated with the YMCA? I'm not sure.
in light of your observation of the decline in our educational system, and your interest in American politics, where specifically does your hope lie today personally..and our US future?
Indian Guides was with YMCA and due to PC they changed it to Adventure guides. Thye also had Indian Princess for girls.
Boy Scouts starting admitting girls at all levels around 6 years ago. Scouting is very heavy into outdoors and camping which Girl Scouts are not as heavly involved with out doors. The Girl Scouts were upset with BSA accepting girls because girls should have other interests. BSA has had merit badges dealing with STEM for over 20 years and in the last 5 years GSA started doing STEM merit badges.
One of the pushing factors was in communities where the entire family attended the meetings and the girls wer upset that they could do alll of the activities their brother was doing but could not get any of the awards.
As for as I know GSA does not let boys participate.
Today's the 2-year anniversary of the Ukraine War. Plus Biden is funding BOTH sides - par for his course. He's given BILLIONS to Iran (of course that's Obama's doing that) who is in league with Russia to support their war effort - after all, Russia needs that oil.
These days, I support the idea of vouchers for the parents who might wish to switch their children to different schools other than the public schools in their neighborhoods.
I also was fully in support of Betsy DeVos, the lady Trump appointed to head the Dept. of Education. I thought she did an excellent job.
If I had young children today, I would look into Charter Schools with great interest, or possibly private schools, even though the private schools are quite expensive. The experiences of teachers I've talked to lately, are experiences that would 'turn-off' many college students considering teaching today. The teachers deal with terrible behavioral issues and little respect from their students, plus the danger of kids bringing guns to school so often, has garnered my rapt attention, just like other American citizens listening to the daily media reports. I wouldn't want to teach in an atmosphere of that caliber, nor would I want my kids to have to try to learn in such a chaotic, disrespectful atmosphere. Public education goals have fallen tremendously at the administration level, in my opinion, (due mostly to the federal government's overbearing contol--states and cities/towns should have more of the control) and the attitude of the parents of these ill-behaved students, is disgraceful. It appears that parents of today (not all of them) don't teach their children to have respect for their elders or teachers at school, or at other venues. When I was a student, as well as my siblings, I was expected to behave properly at all times at school, and at all other places of my activites. My parents were strict and wanted us to grow up to be decent, honorable, patriotic American citizens, gainfully employed with good jobs at the end of our educational journeys.
We all were there last night for my grandson's play he was in. Finding Nemo. I was expecting to have a difficult time finding a parking spot, but had not problem. His mom is very involved with his education. She is in contact with them all. She is a teacher as well so she knows the importance of a strong line of communication. Is your son a freshman or older? I will show your picture to my grandson the next time I see him to see if he recognizes him.
“Hope springs eternal” is a proverb that means the feeling of hopefulness never ends. It's used when someone continues to hope that something will happen, even when it seems unlikely…Alexander Pope in his 1732 poem An Essay on Man. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Essay_on_Man***
Thanks J-lu…it was nice to hear from you wearing your teacher hat!
Regarding the hope of our educational system, my interview last night with 5 RHS teachers confirmed their angst from teaching to a declining base of well-parented students….who seem content by flunking their classes.
Then eventually at RHS graduation…courtesy of our “no child left behind” failed government and RISD policies…
They complacently pursue a miserable dead-end job…following the footsteps of their parents!
If we consider the suicide trends…life’s not very hopeful for a lot of (unstable) American men and women:
Although most (mentally healthy) folks believe that the only “eternal” things in life are death and taxes, where do you suppose “hope” now ranks in life’s scheme…especially during tough economic times in 2024?
I believe that maintaining accurate perspective is vital to having and maintaining hope in life. Accordingly, I now follow several very smart guys who seem to maintain a perspective of hope…despite the rising risks in today’s fragile geopolitics.
My favorite guru is Peter Zeihan. In an interview with an Executive from J.P. MorganChase, here’s some fascinating insights into our recent reshoring of manufacturing from China…to the USA and our friendly partners who will help the USA replace China’s dominance as a world manufacturing power.
Even if his forecast is cautiously accurate, we’re now in uncharted turbulent waters while “de-globalization” creates an upcoming decade of annual 9-15% inflation combined with capital, labor, and food shortages; all during multiple simultaneous wars with risks of a nuclear WW3.
And so, when at weddings…we often hear encouraging words for the naive bride and groom:
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 COR:13.
If I/we look at our leaders in Congress and the “talking heads” on CNN & FOX, I see them sewing discontent…not love.
If I/we look on these split Forums…I could argue same…perhaps self-centric.
So, if love and faith are departing…then I guess you’re right Janalu…I reckon all we got is a happy Hope to spring us into eternity!

The big plan coming down the pike, is that the illegals will be able to get their rent money from their Medicaid cards. And not only that, but other life necessities they will be needing will also be accessible!
Yep! The Progressives/Marxists have it all figured out! It's already in the works and will begin very soon. In California, Newsom has already told his state that illegals are now able to be included in the Medicaid program, and in NYC, the illegals are now receiving a DEBIT card to purchase items they want. INCOME is what we AMERICAN CITIZENS call that type of cash on hand, but we EARN our income.
Guess who will be on the hook for all of these new costs!
YOU GOT IT AMIGO! Or maybe I should say, "YOU GOT IT SUCKER!" (Sorry...I'm a little miffed over this BS from one half of our country's citizens)
No wonder the Democrats are so sure that the illegals will definitely be voting Democrat very soon! Its all been known as "THE PLAN" for a long while now, and this type of reasoning scheme by the Dems, is why the Republicans didn't want to pass that crummy bill that was being pushed as the best plan for the border problem, et al........The part of the bill about STILL allowing around 5,000 illegals to keep entering our country per month, was the klinker part! Republicans DID NOT fall for that idiocy, so the bill was ditched.
The Dems are getting their ideas mainly from Soros. Who could have guessed that?
Yep. I was watching Dr. Zhivago the other day. The scene where all the serfs had already been deposited by THEIR new Marxist oppressors & were living in the commune in Dr. Zhivago's mansion when he returned from the front, is what we need to get ready for. And too bad for the unwitting Dem-voters who, like we sane people, will not be spared from any of this avoidable chaos, but hey, at least they'll deserve it.
The Mavericks won their 7th straight against another really good team yesterday in the Phoenix Suns. I think they haven't lost since the trading deadline when they got those 2 like-guards BIGS (Gafford & Washington) who really give us a shot, along with similarly-gifted, drafted BIG Lively, to go all the way iMHO. Don't know about the Dallas Stars hockey team, but maybe we should get ready to start calling DFW "Title Town(s)"? Oh, wait, we've still got the Cowboys and Jerry at the helm along with losers McCarthy & Prescott a part of this upcoming season's guaranteed waste of another year..........now, with the Rangers' success, the other 3 DFW pro franchises have all been their league's champion since the Cowboys last saw the NFC Championship Game...........NEVER MIND!
I like what a female prayer warrior (they're usually gals since they're generally more spiiritual than we males) said in 1 of my small groups lately: "I just tell them that my pronouns are 'born again' ". YEE HAW!!!!
